I'd like to point out how you're calling for medic right as you taunt in order to cancel the noise of the taunt. That's really clever. I'd seen it used with Heavy's sandwich taunt, but never on Phlog.
I remember going up against a phlogistinator pyro that seemed to always have crits ready. Turns out they had 2 kritz medics pocketing them. Nice video, I can't wait for your flank pyro guide. I'm trying to learn flank pyro and I want someone else's opinion on back scratcher vs powerjack.
default to Powerjack, back scratcher is great for experienced pyros or if you really have no access to friendly medics/dispensers/payload cart at all Powerjack is always good, back scratcher is situationally great but sometimes really bad, depends on what you like to use! Cheers

Remember you can spin the camera and set up your direction while taunting. Take advantage of this to make most of the crit boost even if it means not going in at all.
Great video! I have some advice for the other viewers too. I'm lucky to have two pyro mains on my friends list. One has 50,000 kills on just one of his phlogs and the other owns 40+ collector detonators. They are both beasts in their own right. What I've noticed when they use the phlog is that they don't commit to unfavourable fights even if they have crits. It's just like scenario 3 in the video. Don't feel like you're wasting crits if you don't kill anyone because mmph charges up so fast. You don't have to take every fight. My friends and I always check blind corners with a shoulder or corner peek or with splash damage because you never know what's around the corner. I feel the phlog is heavily positioning based. I main heavy and medic. Positioning means life and death for those classes. What I like to try and do is have a mental 3d image of the map in my mind to keep track of where my teammates are and where the enemies could be. It's sort of like managing your players on a sporting field like soccer or rugby if you're into sports. What this means is you have opportunities to flank enemies when your team is making a big push in another part of the map or if the enemy is pushing hard you can take ground in other areas. Hitting enemies in the side and in the back with the phlog is so much easier than facing them head on. Also, if you know where you team is you're less likely to get flanked, encircled or caught off guard. Tracking players is a good skill to have. A strategy I use as heavy and you can use as pyro is called enfilade fire. Basically, people are lazy and take the easiest routes to get to places that will naturally take them down narrow paths and chokes. These are perfect places to ambush (especially if you go deep) because if you can shoot down a long path or corridor even if you miss you are likely to hit someone else. That's why heavies and phlog pyros can be devastating in tight corridors but may struggle in open areas when people are very spread out. There's also defilade fire which is a fancy term for shoot them in the side from cover while they're busy fighting your team. A strategy I use as medic is uber tracking. Highly beneficial if you use phlog because you don't want to mmph into an ubercharged enemy or one with kritz and get shut down. Easiest way to track stock uber is when the enemy medic's uber ends or when they respawn you look at the clock then subtract 40 seconds for stock or 30 seconds for kritz. The new time is roughly when a good medic will have another charge ready. It's hard to get mad at 'randomly' running into an uber when you can know roughly when it's ready. Edit: There's one more thing I want to add. With mmph you're not god. You can easily get shut down if you bite off more than you can chew. I still pie my corners and engage enemies one at a time with the phlog. For example, I have much less chance of dying to three players around a corner if I fight three 1v1s instead of one 3v1.
I am extremely interested in a guide for the Sydney sleeper. I think it gets tossed to the wayside because of how good stock sniper is. But to be honest I prefer to relegate my sniping to support anyways. Cheers for the vids.

I have a bit of attention span problems so sorry if I am asking about something you already covered, but can the Thermal Thruster be somewhat useful or just fun to use in general? Had quite a lot of fun in 2fort with it, but I just wanted to know how to best use it. Thanks
In non-serious games or against new/intermediate players, it's pretty good because you can surprise enemies, lots of mobility, and the enemies if they aren't good won't be able to shoot you out of the air if you're against good players it's a pretty weak item because 1. pyro relies on his secondary for damage/range/mobility and thruster only offers mobility, 2. the holster/switch speed is very very slow, 3. snipers/skilled enemies will shoot you as you're defenceless and floating/falling in the air it's great on King of the hill, not great against good snipers or especially sentry guns, it's rare to get some good jetpack jumps/flanks when you're attacking on a payload map (jetpack vs badwater last defenders is hell for example because lots of sentries, no room to flank, lots of snipers) glad you enjoy my videos and really you can use any weapon at the end of the day if you get good with it and especially understand why a weapon is good/bad, when it's weak/strong, what situations is it good in, etc. Cheers
Question Pirateer: Are there any Pyro weapons you feel are underpowered or a tad overpowered? And if so, how would you personally rebalance and change their stats?
Manmelter is weak, I would remove projectile speed buff (so it's the same as other flare guns), make base damage higher (around 50), and extinguishing teammates grants minicrits or something. So it's less punishing to miss your crit, since it's only a little damage boost, and then the Manmelter doesn't rely on the enemy Pyro feeding you crits Phlogistinator is weak and strong at the same time, I would make it so once you deal 100-150 fire damage, you get 1 charge, maximum of 3 stored charges. You can use a charge instantly to gain minicrits for a short period (1-3 seconds maybe?) OR delete projectiles infront of you (think of an airblast, but instead of reflecting, it deletes projectiles in the airblast radius sorta like the Short Circuit). Think this would be a really interesting charge that gives the Pyro player some choice, still keeps an airblast-like mechanic, but still offers a damage boost on demand I would revert the airblast to pre-Jungle Inferno since its less annoying to play against and more skillbased to use (cone hitbox instad of giant cube hitbox, enemies retain some air movement, etc) I would make flames team-coloured or at least a lot more visible so they aren't blinding to both the Pyro and the enemy I would change flamethrower to be more like a Quake-style lightning gun, but this might be a bit too overpowered Overall Pyro doesn't do enough damage, is kinda slow, and is easily killed by scouts/snipers/etc which is why he sucks in 6s (and why he's only used on last points). Giving a bit more damage (not phlogistinator-style crit damage) and mobility to the Pyro would make him a super fun class, not sure how to give him more damage though without making him overpowered or boring to play against/play as

It would be interesting to hear why you main the Arsonist despite him being fairly weak. And for the last part on giving pyro more damage. Maybe there can be a system where the longer you have your flames on your enemy the more damage the flamethrower does? Like it starts off with 8 damage per flame and ticks up to 15-18. That way it rewards pyro's who can consistently keep their flamethrower on enemies by dealing more damage as it goes on.
This might sound odd but I like going into a bot training server, going on upward, going on red team turning on sv_cheats then turning on noclip, going into blu’s base turning noclip off and just killing all of the bots in the spawn room with the phlog

I just use 1 2 3 to switch weapons, if I need to flare punch I use 'q' or my 'last weapon used' hotkey to quickly switch between my 2 weapons. So i'll take out my flare gun, switch back to my degreaser, and now if I need the flare gun I just tap 'q' and boom I can flare punch/crit flare quickly
ye (doesn't require aim though) the difference between a new player using the phlogistinator and a skilled pyro using the phlogistinator is astronomical keep in mind when I say that the phlogistinator requires 'skill', obviously I dont mean that it's a skillful weapon or requires much talent to use, but definitely requires some practice + a lot of gamesense I noticed a lot of players complaining about the phlogistinator would die to any other flamethrower as well lmao
