Hello! I think I will try and make this cake this weekend, but I only have 9 inch cake pans - do you think it could work? Also do you use unsalted or salted butter?
Hi Ally, yes it will work! It will be not as tall as this cake but if you want to you can increase the amount of batter by 1.5. I like to use unsalted butter and add a bit of salt so it is the same amount every time.
Ally Olsen Hi, yes! It is best if all ingredients are at room temperature. Just pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds if it comes straight from the fridge. That should be fine! Happy baking
Hi, I recommend to store leftover cake in the fridge for up to a week. Cover it with cling wrap. This is a great recipe if you like chocolate cake and Nutella but who am I kidding everybody likes chocolate cake :D
@@hyeminstellapark Of course! I like it when the frosting has softened at room temperature for a little bit. Perfectly leave it out 30 minutes up to 1 hour before serving! Enjoy
Hi, vegetable shortening is typically made from hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated vegetable oils, such as corn, cottonseed or soybean. It is solid at room temperature and neutral in taste. I like to use it in combination to butter because it reduces the butter flavor and it gives the frosting a silky smooth texture. It is optional and you can use just butter and that will be fine. You can substitute it with palm fat or coconut oil. Be aware of the coconut flavor though. I hope this was helpful! Happy baking!
Hi you can use regular milk instead or you can make homemade buttermilk! It is super easy just warm a cup of whole milk and add a tablespoon of lemon juice, mix and let it sit for 10 minutes.
Hi, if i make the cake today would it still be fresh on saturday when it‘s served? And if i keep it in the fridge until then, how would i cover it? Do i need to cover it?
Hi I recommend to bake the cake layers and freeze them while still warm wrapped in cling wrap. That makes decorating way easier. So you could also decorate the cake tomorrow. If you don’t have that option baking the cake the day before and keeping the layers in the fridge makes it easier to decorate too! You can definitely make the whole cake 2 days before. To keep it in the fridge I recommend to either put it in a cardboard box to keep out any smells from other foods or even better dont have anything with a strong smell in your fridge so you leave the decorated cake uncovered in there. A small bowl with baking soda or half a lemon help to neutralize fridge smells
@@emily-hw5xl Yes, that is totally fine! The layers are going to be a bit thinner. If you want to you can increase the recipe by 25% but I don't think it is necessary. Happy baking!
I made this cake for my daughter. Needless to say, I had to make it numerous times. Absolutely delicious.

Looks great! I need to make a cake with 4 rounds. Would you be able to tell me how the ingredient quantities would change?
Hi, for four layers of cake I would use 1.3 times the recipe or you could even double the amount and make thicker layers.

What is made of vegetable shortening? Will there be a flavor change without it?

@@LUISABAKES For sure! It looks delicious. I do have one more question though, is all purpose flour just normal flour?
@@stefaniapopescu2555 yes regular flour! Just sift it so it does not have any clumps! You saw the written recipe in the description?
Hi is there anything I can use to substitute the brown sugar?
You can use white sugar. I like brown sugar for its caramel flavor but it is not necessary!
@@LUISABAKES thanks a lot 🥰🥰
