- Honda CBR650R | The best everyday sportsbike?
After spending several weeks with Honda's middleweight sportsbike, is it any good doing the normal day to day stuff that us daily riders have to do? Join me as I take the CBR650R on the motorway, through town and ride it at night to see how it handles these real world situations. Is it really any good as an every day sportsbike?
Many thanks to Honda UK for making this video possible.

i wanna buy this buy and have it in the living room so i can stare at it a little longer lol such a beautiful bike.
u clearly havent got taste
@@SR-qu7ne 🤣🤣🤣class comment
@@SR-qu7ne Well, it's not as beautiful as a Ducati, MV or something but it still is beautiful. The amount and design of stickers on it seems terrible to me though.
@@SuperBlizzard77 it's not as pricey as Ducati or MV.
It’s a baby blade and a good looking bike. Probably the best looking bike in its class and price!
Best bike i've ever owned. It's a perfect balance of Fun and practical. I feel so much safer on this bike as it feels so well planted. I think it corners excellently... Honda knew exactly what they wanted and knew how make it work. Excellent bike.
Are you happy with the fuel consumption? How many km can you do before you run out of gas?
@@user-ez6ct2bb1e mine get around 300km
When does it feel safer? At high speeds?
Couldn't agree more. I love my 2018 CBR650F. I've got mine set up for touring and it's great! Done 350+ miles a day no problem.
@@Fee.1 its 4 cylinder so high speeds are no problem
I love mine too. I've been doing a 3.5hr tour around different areas each Sunday morning, with breakfast/coffee stop along with way. Such a joy to ride.
Comfortable?
It seems that the quality of your videos is getting way better. Love that from you. Keep well and never stop. Peace.
Did anyone else pause the video and come to the comments when he said "I haven't had my butthole blasted, I haven't been to prison"?
Comedic gold man I did the same shit
he has seen to many US movies :_:
😂😂😂😂 I was like BRUUUH 😲 DaFOOOOKKK 🤦🏾♂️😂🤦🏾♂️
I do love how down to earth and honest your videos are - I got a 2018 CB650F two years ago as my first big bike. How does this compare as I do like the more sporty look of this
Well planned out, structured review with great sound quality and editing, that doesn't drag on for half an hour. Other reviewers take note of how to do it properly!
Lovely review Dan, as per usual 😁 just bought this bike four days ago. Can’t wait to ride it!
i'm getting my A2 soon, and i'm searching for a first bike, i'm in love with that bike ( the 35kw one ofc, i'll tune it back to 75kw once i have my A licence in pocket), but i saw only negative review about it, honestly thank you for breaking that negativity, i think that it's the most reliable bike right now, enough fast, and easy to drive, not expensive and perfect for a beginner!
Thank you for including your measurements. I always have trouble seeing what my lean angle would be on a bike that's not physically in front of me.
EBD, no question in my mind. You're top 3 bike reviewers on YT. Keep up the awesome quality work & have a great day. Be safe Ride safe 👍
This is mad, this is my first time watching a review on this specific bike and riding around my old home town 👌🏼 take it down the dual by the swimming centre… 0-60 from the lights ! Love to see it !
Pretty comprehensive review, the night riding was a bonus. the quality of overall video has enhanced a lot 🤟maybe its voice or editing
Honda is love, Honda is life ♥️
Until you try to order one In Ireland and its ‘Honda is whenever’. Their customer service is terrible and I own two and love them !
You misspelled Kawasaki
Honda is expensive. 😅
Honda is a Japanese motorcycle, car, marine, aviation and industrial producer.
I made the right choice getting one at the end of October 2020 as my first big bike instead of the CB. It's both comfortable and fun on longer rides out, plus it looks awesome. The akrapovic exhaust sounds great and the evotech tail tidy really enhances the looks.
Glad you're enjoying your bike. Ride safe. 👍
I’ve got the same set up
As your first bike eh? I've been thinking about the ninja 650 due to its more restrained horsepower. But i cant deny the honda looks extremely tempting given the price.
@@Baleur yep, first big bike after riding a 125 for a year. Not too powerful and easy/comfortable to ride
@@Baleur If you care about top speed the ninja 400 has more top end than the 650, sadly. The honda 650 has the best HP for the 650cc class between suzuki, kawasaki, yamaha, etc..
I am digging the ruroc helmet brother! I have the Shogun and a cbr650r. I enjoy your videos too! Keep up the good work mate!
Very thorough review with the information that I needed. Thank you.
Great review. I’ve just bought the 2023 model and I really like it a lot. Windsor looks lovely.
This bike was awesome when I owned it, fantastic beginner bike with such a smooth engine and forgiving riding position, not too aggressive. Great video as always Dan
Is there a Honda even more aggressive at the same engine?
I was the same with the cb500f watching this video because I am swapping it for the cbr650 glad it looks nicer in person
Is the CBR650 high on insurance?
Another great review from Dan the english biker! Reminds me of the day I brought my 1st bike home from Romford, riding along M4... nice everyday bike it was.. GPZ500s..
great vid! loved your commentary... the ride by the castle reminded me of my trip to the UK back in 2018.
Thanks for watching! I do love Windsor.
You've got a really good review style Dan. Top quality.
Thank you kindly! :)
I love mine. It’s everything I could need.
@william anderson well its not a liter bike
@william anderson it needs another 20hp
Would
@william anderson get a quickshifter, its pretty fun
I had a 2014 and I loved it until I rode a 2500cc.
My girlfriend is a die hard Honda lover. She currently rides a CTX700N and is looking at this as her next bike. Great video. Thanks.
I own one since last Summer. And in my experience its a really good real world everyday bike too. I have also been to switzerland with it and that worked out pretty good.
I also drove home 500km on the Autobahn when I picked it up from the Dealer and in my opinion its definetly suitable for motorway driving too.
Good content. Keep it up.
Eek sports bike on Switzerland? You must have had to control a lot of urges to get out with your wallet and liberty in tact.
We decided to skip Switzerland in the interest of speed (ing) on out tour of the Alps (from the UK) lol
Thanks for the helpful comment!
@@ianwarrenYou can speed in Switzerland if you know where the speed traps are 😉
Or just fold your license plate up
I'm running a 2002 CBR600 F4i right now and it's quite comfortable. Since these two are related, it's not surprising this would also be suitable as an everyday sportsbike!
Had the 2016 CRF650F. Learned a lot on that bike - then they came out with CBR650R. Would've loved to have the 650R.
Great review Dan. I always like your relaxed and honest style. One of the easiest reviewers to watch and listen too.
A unique point to be noted... The lights at night 👍👍👍
I’m happy just riding mine 👍 Great first big bike!
Great all round bike Dan , good vid 👊💙
Hi Dan, great vid and interesting look forward to the next one
Thanks 👍
Great review, thanks alot for the effort
Hi Dan, best regards from Barcelona, Spain. I own the CB650R since last june, and it is the first bike that is always kind of whispering me "let's do some twisties, come on...". It's like a dog, you have to take it out or will be sad ;). We are lucky here in Barcelona because there are a lot of sunny days, even in winter time at midday you can (carefully) enjoy the mountain twisties. Watching your videos is like listening to a friend, always a great time!
Thanks Paul, yes my bike sometimes shouts at me though. Especially with all the other bikes I ride. I think she gets jealous! :D
I took the bike for a 1200 km, 14 hour motorway ride from germany to spain... no issues at all just couldn't really move my hands anymore but i guess that is to expect with an enduro as well🤷♂️
I got 2021 in April and loving it herebin Australia
Watching from Philippines! nice review thanks!
I can’t decide if you’re riding to work, riding to get essential food or because it’s the first warm, sunny, dry wknd during lockdown...
Jus kiddin. Lovely bike. Definitely one on my test ride list! Great vid Dan.
This is work for me, so I'm good to film according to the law. This was actually filmed almost a year ago. Although I can't remember if it was a lockdown at that point!
Awesome bike. I was close to pulling the trigger on one, but ended up getting a zero miles VFR1200F instead.
The VFR has always been a well respected bike loved by lots of owners. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I’m enjoying my CBR650R
Amazing Dan, I love that bike so much. Hoping to pick up a 2021 model with the little upgrades. At night that bike is so much better than I thought it would be. Great review Dan 👍🏻
What upgrades does the 2021 have? I understand they've made the quickshifter an optional extra now?
@@DaddyBiker_Reviews mainly changes so the engine is euro compliant but no loss in power, the body work looks a bit different and the dash is more laminated and easier to read in direct sunlight 👍🏻
A great review. Thank you! 👍😎🇦🇺
Thank you for the great video I'm very seriously considering buying this motorcycle probably in matte black
@Danny Me too #MatteBlack but I'm still enjoying my CB600F for the time being. My daily commute is a little over 80kliks back-and-forth but in the near future I'm pondering a new Honda (this one) due to the more aggressive styling, windscreen (perhaps even a taller one...🙄) & sportiness 👍🏾
I love this review. I live in the states and the riding conditions are a bit different so I have to factor that in. A great option I'm keeping an eye out for
Thanks for watching! Our roads are a little bit narrower! :D
I have always liked the Honda CBR 650 R. I very nearly brought a 21 model. But I decided to go for a Kawasaki 650 ninja, as it was so much cheaper in the purchase price.
I love my bike to bits it ticks so many boxes like the CBR.
Hi Dan great vlog again nice views on cbr anyway you take care and ride safe TTFN
It's a good machine.
Surprisingly small and light feeling.
Nice controls.
Punchy enough engine.
Beautiful motorcycle! 😍
Second year on this bike and love to bits. Once you start to push it it is actually very good fun and handles very nicely. I''ve changed the exhaust and added rear seat cowl and heated gips. Been using it in London traffic and plenty of b road fun. Love it
p.s also tail tidy
Glad you're enjoying your bike. I had a tail tidy on my naked CB but as I ride everyday, I would get water all over my back without the stock tail. So back on it went. It's not pretty but it works! :D
@@Englishbikerdan I also ride every day no matter the weather. It does get a bit dirty but I'm ok sacrificing cleanliness for good looks 😂 Also last year added tutoro passive oiler and it's one of the best additions, keeps the chain clean and lubed, so a lot less time wasted cleaning, lubricating and adjusting the chain and more time enjoying time on the bike.
Povilas what is the CBR like in central London. I've a light naked bike at the moment and it's very easy to filter. I don't filter like crazy but do move up through the gaps when I can. I'm afraid the CBR turning circle and weight would be an issue in heavy London traffic.
@@davidg2116 It's brilliant for traffic, my previous bike was NC750S it's famous for being very good in traffic and I was really surprised that CBR is actually better. It's smaller bike by quite a lot and it really is super easy to filter in even heavy traffic. If you need to do very sharp 90 degree angle its still possible you just need to lean the bike a bit. So far I've not find myself stuck in traffic at any time and I do commute via Tower bridge and surrounding areas.
@@povilaslondon thanks for replying. That helps a lot. I commute in to w1 so it can be quite busy sometimes.
Really fantastic review 🙌🏼
Thanks so much!
Dan the Man! Awesome video - i'm so excited for my CB650R coming end of March *_*
Nice one! Hope you enjoy! 👍
Sunday just got better :)
Off note topic, but your video production is insane man.
Thanks man, appreciate it. 👍
Would love to see a video review of the Kawasaki Z900RS Cafe!
I recently bought a 82 honda 650 4 from Craigslist. Mint condition, beautiful fast bike. At a gas station i was offered twice what I'd paid, and it was gone. Honestly, it was way to fast for my local environment. Froghead city sw Fl.
although I don't ride every day, in 2 months I've done 3000 kilometres in all weathers and roads, and this motorcycle has impressed me. Sometimes the tyres are not grippy enough in wet but the traction control hasn't intervened. I'm pretty happy with this bike. My bum itches to go for a ride all the time.
Thanks for a thorough review Dan. I’m considering selling my FJR1300 for something a little more nimble on the country roads where I live in Ireland. Your video has just given me a bike I hadn’t thought of but will definitely look into it now. Cheers!
Dave.👍🏍
Thanks Dave. I used to live in Swords back in the early 2000's. Roads were a bit iffy back then!
@@Englishbikerdan they haven’t changed mate, the pot holes just got deeper. I live in Cavan and it’s renowned as the pot hole
County of Ireland, it certainly makes a person a better rider.
It’s definitely worth considering. I’m a new rider, first big bike so not a huge amount to compare with (Sv540 and Triumph Tiger Sport 660) but the CBR650R was an instant joy to ride and way more engaging than the others, easy to ride but very capable and just finished 2,700 miles from the UK to Austrian Alps and back and loved it from top speed on unrestricted Autobahns right down to Alpine hairpins.
It’s a quality ride for the money!
Great bike loving it however I’ve got a lot to work on for my slow speed turns after riding a 125 for 2 years
Absolutely love mine, standard tyres are awful though, took the standard Dunlop’s off and replaced with Dunlop roadsport 2s which vastly improved the grip levels
Don't know what come on other countries, here un Spain de get the Metzeler Roadtec on the 2020 version. Changed to Bridgestone bt016 and much more grip and information while riding
At least your bike will keep one of your hands warm in the winter I have a Kawasaki 636 looking at your 650 cbr as I am getting older
Hi Dan, very good video. Just a quick one, how did you find the ruroc! I hear a lot of complaints about wind noise and not being the safest. Keep up the good work👊🏻
Hey Vinnie. I couldn't get on with it at all so only wore it twice unfortunately. 👍
I wanted this bike so badly but couldnt afford something new so I went a different route but who knows I may own one someday even still.
The lights on the cbr500r at night without street lights is so bad on corners its insane. Interesting to see the 650 is so similar :/ i threw on some AUX lights and it helped a little. Love the aggressive look but sometimes functionality > form
I love this motorcycle.
i own one for almost a year now. driving it limited with 48 hp tho. but still it looks awesome, ppl which dont know a lot bout bikes couldnt rly say if its a big bike or as i call it the babyblade :D. today i changed to stock exhaust. Im sooo hyped. love it. Was one of the better choices in life haha
Haha nice! Glad you're enjoying it. It's a beautiful machine.
Not a big sportsbike fan, but this looks beautiful.
Thanks for replying understand what you are saying hope you get the chance to review rs660 like the way you review bikes
That is a lovely looking machine Sir. 🥰
Hi Dan great video very interesting I own a zx6r 2001 best bike ever
Had the 2006 ZX6R when they first went back to 600cc. Gutless low down but handled really well. Commuting on it was horrid though!
Honda fan here also , i have the CB650F forever bike
Would you recommend it for a beginner?
MOST CERTAIN IT IS!!! i own one for about one year and afew month, dayli use it and no "RAGRETS" xD
Great care nematic , could you do reviews of motorcycle gloves
Great review Dan, how did this compare to the street triple S you rode a few weeks ago? I’ve been looking at both and can’t make my mind up so your opinion would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Dan, great camera image, i ride 8th gen vfr, would i be right to say similar power and handling, love the design of this model and a great price, big fan of honda, will have to get a test ride
Thanks! No the VFR800 has a lot more power, especially low down. At least, that's how I remember my 1998 VFR!
i bought the 2021 and took delivery few months ago. so far i've put around 1,5k km on it and it's a great all purpose sport bike. An Arrow Pro Race makes it a different animal though, now with a complete exhaust it sounds perfect but i must admit that the stock pipe wasn't bad at all. I'm waiting on GB Racing to put out an engine cover set so i can protect those nice bronze-ish carters.
I have the cbr650f but part of me wants this bike as an addition.
Glad to hear you still have the mighty CB650R as your bike.
8:13 great use of the 360 degree camera
Yeah lived that...That shot of the castle etcetera #WellDone👍🏾
Dan the man! Great video mate! How do you think this compares to triumph street triple S in terms of handling given the weight difference/suspension? Thanks mate, much respect from Australia!
Hey 007! Good to have you here. The Triumph feels a more agile and has a bit more torque low down. The CBR has more go to it once you get it up in the revs but I've not ridden the unrestricted S though.
AWESOME BIKE
Great Work ! You should have made a small section talking about the Ruroc Helmet Test as well.
I had nothing good to say, so I'll say nothing. 😁
@@Englishbikerdan oh really? Well feedback is feedback, it's always helpful, good or bad.
It would help us make better and more "informed" decisions before choosing the lid.
@@skanderkebaier1738 My silence should speak volumes 😂. I can't be bothered creating a review of a product that just isn't that good.
@@Englishbikerdan fair enough 😂
Maybe the Atlas 3.0 will be worthy
i would say this and the aprilla 660 are the top contenders for sporty bikes with usable power.
The Aprillia is a great bike (in black, can’t say the other colours gold or red with a purple tank appeal Yuck).
But a lot more money for the riding modes and TFT screen over the CBR650R that couldn’t justify, then Hondas reliability is streets ahead of the Italian!
This and the new aprilia RS660 are my fav bikes. Really can’t choose between them
@Sarthak Suman bro....i am european....and of course here there are many more european bike dealers.
That is not the problem.
Also aprilia is a very good brand, i don’t see why i shouldn’t consider it
Haven’t even watched this video to the end yet but as someone who owns this bike... yes it’s the best bike out there for a combination of everyday and aggressive sporty riding. I’ve owned an MT07 before this and that bike is very fun but this is the one trust me
Owned an mt07 and an mt09 and I share the same opinion. The 650’s power iscloser to the Mt09 but the whole bike is A LOT more package than both the mt line. It’s a Honda.
@@migflc778 Yeah I have to agree, where the MT07 stopped for me the CBR just kept going. Way more solid and sturdy on the bends and on the motorway as well. As much as I enjoyed the MT07, this was definitely worth the extra money. I do miss easy wheelies but this bike is the full package in my opinion
@@ShinigamiShionZ If you want something easy to wheelie you should buy the cb650 and not this one, but...damn, cbr just makes sense for every kind of situation
How pressed forward in sitting position is this 650 versus the MT07? I don’t like an aggressive stance like I’m laying down. I preferred upright
I have an MT07 at the moment, but wanted to try a sportsbike. I tried a cbr600rr today, lots of fun but u cant push the bike even in first gear without losing ur license. The cbr600rr doesent even feel as fast as the mt07 before u hit 10k rpm and at that point u are already going pretty "fast".
So my question is. Is the CBR650R a better compromise for sporty feel?
Dan just passed my mod 1 and doing my mod 2 been looking at the 4:55 kawasaki ninja 650 but I like this now are the HANDEL bars up straight iam doing my mod 2 on a honda hornet CBF 600 I love it but it's old dan 😊
I hope you get to try the new Speed Triple!
Great review! Thanks for reminding us that this bike is still out there! Saw a few comments in earlier reviews about some uncomfortable vibes through the bars that took the rider into white finger territory on a long-ish trip. Did you experience this during your time with the bike?
To be honest it's not something I noticed. On my bike which is essentially this without fairings, I do suffer on longer journeys with a numb throttle hand but it doesn't put me off. Thanks!
Can say the same, numb throttle hand past the 90min point - but nothing not solved by shaking it off or a short break.
However nothing major or... impactful in terms of vibration. And no issues with knees or arms or legs in general.
I put a taller PUIG screen that eliminates nearly all wind even with the mildest tuck.
I recently did a 10 day tour of Europe to the Austrian Alps (From the UK). Despite around 8 days riding averaging over 4 hours per day I didn’t get a numb hand or anything else bar a calluses verging on blisters on my palm just under the fingers but my son on his Ducati V4S had the same but much worse.
I find the vibration on the bike mild even spending hours over 100 MPH on unrestricted Autobahns!
There is some but I don’t find it a problem at all.
I have on occasion done a 2.5hr ride to my sons house, 2-3 hours riding with him then 2.5 hrs back so 7+ hours in a day. Can’t pretend I wasn’t happy to get off at the end but it’s never crippled me and I’m 57!
Really nice bike, like the naked you have as well.
Thanks!
Would enjoy seeing a review on the 2023 Ninja 650, and a bit of comparison with the CBR650R.
Sadly I'm still unable to test Kawasaki bikes.
Great bike but 2 simple additions would make it a must buy; 1) an improved screen/interface, tft maybe, and 2) ride by wire throttle allowing for up AND down quickshifter/blipper. Add them and, Honda, I've got £8k here to give you. Great video as always Dan, really like your unpretentious style.
Thanks mate. I do think that 2022 will see some more changes. The Trident and RS660 are making other manufacturers rethink things which is good for us as consumers! Thanks for watching!
Problem with that is the bike costs £8400+ so adding TFT, ride by wire and a blipper and up and down Quickshifter will put it in RS660 money over £10,000
Looks like you're in luck with the 2024 then :)
I've owned one since May 2019 and I've reluctantly come to the conclusion it's time for something more comfortable. I think it's a stunning bike to look at, and as you say, it does everything you want and it is a fast bike when you pull the trigger and get the engine over 8,000 rpm, but my shoulders can't take any more punishment.
It's not the bikes fault, it's me getting old, but that aside, it's a lovely bike to ride and in over 5,000 miles it has performed flawlessly and it is a machine you can trust. It's easy to ride, the gearbox is crisp, the handling is predicable, the brakes are good, and it will give you what you want, performance wise, when you want it without any unpleasant surprises.
Shame, loving mine as my first big bike at 56 yo!
I got a bargain too a mid 2021 bike with 241 miles on it and an original owner (Born again biker) who decided his ageing bad back couldn’t stand a sports bike any more!
So O save about £1,500 on a new bike.
Just did 2,700 miles to the Austrian Alps and back and despite over 4 hrs per day riding most days some 5+ it didn’t break me!
Just love the bike.
So the bike is uncomfortable?
Definitely looking at getting one of these when everything opens up and I can do my test!!
So you live in a place without rights?
@@g496r500t that reply makes absolutely no sense
Not really a bike person..have a few frens that r really into bikes but dman this bike is just so sexy..would just buy it for its looks
Very nice! I’m a new rider and felt a 650+ would be too much as my first bike, so I bought a CFMOTO 450SRS, which is a perfect beginner bike. Light, nimble, sounds great and extremely easy to ride! Maybe I’ll upgrade to a 650 after a year or two when I’m more experienced. The CBR looks like a great upgrade path! Thanks for the review! 👍🏼
I've heard good things about the 450 from CFM. Enjoy your new bike!
I know it’s a sports bike and not a sport touring one, but I always wondered what if you have several stops on longer journeys, would a sport bike be not so uncomfortable (offcourse im not expecting the comfort of a touring or sport touring bike). Got the answer from this video. Cheers mate!
I would actually say it's more of a small sports tourer. It basically replaced the older CB600F. Yeah, if you factor in more stops it actually might be okay! Thanks for watching.
Loving your work, friend, thank you kindly for sharing. Was there much difference to the 2019 and prior versions that you noticed on this new one, Dan? Do you reckon the Trident could spank its tail-tidy, or do you reckon that could be a totally different beast? P,us, not sure of the price difference but do you think the extra money justifies the Aprilia 660 over this wee beast, mate? Thanks Dan, ride safe, friend
Thank you for watching. This is in fact the 2020 CBR which is identical to the 2019 model. I am hoping to get the 2021 updated model very soon so I can take that for some tests too. Trident is a different bike tbh. A bit more agile and torquey low down where as the CB and CBR get going higher in the rpm's. In a straight line both the CB and CBR would outpace the Trident but in the twisties I'd say it's a fairly even match with the Trident having an edge in agility and handling. It's very close though in reality. I've not ridden the Aprilia yet so I can't really comment. I imagine it'll be awesome to ride but not so sure it's worth the extra ££ when you could just get a Triumph Street Triple R or RS for similar money.
VERY GOOD BIKE
Thanks Dan.
Similar to 2007 CBR600RR that I had to sell in 2016. Still got all the riding gear, might get this on next year.
The 600rr is a screamer in comparison and has 20hp more. You may be dissapointed with the 650
True that they are different but I have gotten older and just want a decent bike again mainly for the freedom on two wheels and generally just like the lifestyle, not so much for the thrills.
From Dan's up close shots I noticed that 650r has a few parts copied from '07 600RR.
Please post a UK review of Triumph Trident 660 which you promised in your first review of the bike in Tenerife.
As soon as I can get one one, I'll do a video.
