In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Charlie and Grandpa Joe get lifted into the air thanks to the Wonka’s Fizzy Lifting Drink, but could this work in reality? In honor of the late great Gene Wilder, Kyle takes a fizzy lifted look on this episode of Because Science, now airing for the first time on the Because Science Channel. - Наука та технологія
The best part of this video was Kyle reciting Wonka's rant at Grandpa Joe about the contract Charlie signed
Bobby Burgess i agree whole heartedly!! holy moly that was amazing! Good job
Bobby Burgess, I know what you mean. I use that tirade as often as possible but that's pretty rare,...so I usually just default to "I said 'good day' sir!" to let the person know the conversation IS done. Yes, I do remember to have a 'good day' said when I know they will try to get the final word in response.
But Charlie didn't get nothing
The fact that this is made in 2016 and it's better than a lot of the content that's out in 2020

Loved it :)
Great job quoting Wonka's "rant" at the end, never did understand the entirety of what he said.
Mainly because in the book, Willy Wonka was considered half-mad, and that is why he was able to create his candy the way he did.
The number would have to be even higher, since Grandpa Joe was also lifted.
You are forgetting that Bing lifted by a balloon in your stomach, would hurt like hell. And might also tear it
no he didn't 2:30
Kyle: "I know what you're thinking"
Me, thinking of the Hindenburg
Kyle: "we can not use helium"
Ironic
After Corridor Digital's R rated version's realease I was totally expecting for this to get reuploaded x)
Now can you use that formula to figure out how light of a gas you would need to make/use so just one Fizzylifting drink could lift you up?
TOP TIER QUALITY VIDEO! This is exactly what i like to see on UA-cam!

The video ended. I closed the tab. And then I was like, no.... I must go back and express my gratitude in the comments. Thank you so much for doing the contract rant. Probably one of my favorite parts
I was wondering if you'd do Wonka's rant to Charlie and Gramps Joe at the end, though in your previous video about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory you said that speech with such great passion I applauded it. 👏👏
I've been looking forward to this.
Quote: Count Dooku
my immediate thought upon reading the title was the amount of gas would make you look like blueberry violet.
For those missing Kyle, You can now find him at his new channel on you tube Kyle Hill. Have a great day and never stop learning.
I love the work!
Nice update to a classic of yours. I wonder how violently diuretic the drink would have to be to purge your body of fluid while retaining the gas? How many different ways would this kill Charlie?
Was the standard enjoyable, now old school, Kyle Hill B.S. video but then nailing the contract rant at the end really pushed it over into greatness.
Points for the end to I love that speech
this is so good
Damn, Kyle should become an actor
Lol, their new original content isn't enough to keep subscriber's attention that they have to re-upload old Kyle content. I love it.
Could you make a infinity stone video? I absolutely love your other super hero related videos
I love this movie just as much as Kyle does... that ending monologue is just the greatest thing ever!

Hey Kyle. Today I saw a picture of Pangea and I rememberd the I heard something a couple of years ago that scientists believe that the continents how they are placed now are moving towards each other again as a pangea 2.0. Now maybe it's just my fantasy but I was thinking: what if the enormous places that we call "space" is actually an enormous living being. I mean how could we ever think about something that big being a living creature. But, what if that living creature would somehow be controlling everything that happens, from the creation of galaxies to the movement of the earth's plates. But ignoring the reason we think the plates move so 'slow', how about that because of the size of the creature, due to gravity and such it looks to us as slow, but perhaps for the creature everything is happening much quicker. Perhaps just too mich philosophy, but perhaps an interesting topic for a video? Like, would any of this be possible?
Hey Kyle, mclovin the show, few questions if u will. What if the area they were in was filled with idk like 10x atmospheres? And maybe the liquid wasn't just carbonated with the gases but was the gas in liquid form somehow with flavoring or something to make it not kill u? So idk how to do the numbers but I figure u could possibly get it down to just 1 bottle if u played with wat gas filled the room and how concentrated the liquid to be turned into gas inside would need to be,
Time to listen to all of these while I game with a really technological Minecraft modpack
I also have autism, and watching you I had no idea you had it too, I never assumed you did or noticed. I'm glad you found out though, and even better I'm glad it's not stopping you from working.
I know Kyle won't see this but I'll say it anyway. The soda wouldn't do anything even if it was pure hydrogen unless Charlie was expanding. Actually if he doesn't change shape it would make him heavier
its honestly kind of pathetic that they are so desperate to keep this channel alive that they are just rehashing old content bc they know that they're nothing without kyle
Perhaps you didn't read the notice when Kyle left the channel, they said they would be releasing never-before-released content
@@iceforeyes "ORIGINAL AIR DATE: 9/22/2016"
@@63cfc392 in the same message they also said they would replay some of the favorites, I didn't think I needed to specify the whole message again.
I still love the “square sweets that look round”
Can you--LOVE THE SHOW!--Can you do the math in reverse to tell us what the properties of this "Mystery Gas" would have to be for one bottle to lift Charlie?
Bonus; He and Grandpa only took a sip each, which one could "assume" is an ounce each of the Fizzy Lifting drinks and it was enough to become airborne. Probably not a big enough observation to be a supernerd but....i tried... :-)
I have a question how fast does glass break
Did anyone else notice the long gash on Kyle's neck?
You mean his necklace?
@@Antenox lol yeah
The glass bottles would have to be made of pretty heavy glass to counter act the liquid
Great as always but you could have asked "IT"...he allready knows how all can float 😁
What if the "Fizzy Lifting Drink" didn't actually contain dissolved hydrogen gas, but actually converted (through some chemistry we don't understand yet) all the water in the soda to hydrogen gas instead? How many of them would be needed to create the roughly 50-ish cubic metres of gas needed?
Well with an 8 fluid-ounce soda, containing roughly 90% water, that water containing roughly 23 grams of hydrogen total (converted to roughly 23 moles of hydrogen for an ideal gas law formulae), this results in a single bottle of soda containing just over half a cubic metre of hydrogen gas. (At regular atmospheric pressure and 20 degrees Celsius, for easy math).
This means he'd only need to drink 100 of them to get the needed gas! Much more plausible... But storing 50 cubic metres of gas in your stomach would be utterly impossible, as we're not that elastic, so... *shrug* lol.
But what if the room was more conditioned to help them float. Having the air more dense and cooler
Kyle must have great parents for him to have experienced the only TRUE Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie with Gene Wilder. And the reason I say this is because the film was made in June 1971, which is long before Kyle was born. This video is a great homage to the movie, he's got the quotes correct, some of the special effects that where used in the movie, and I really loved it when he started turning blue, like the character Violet did when she started chewing the 4-course dinner chewing gum.
Ive had an idea for the show... How much lift/wingspan would dumbo need to actually fly?
Didn't this already get uploaded before?
Gabe Xenos it has been uploaded on the Nerdist channel.
They're milking the content they have leftover from kyle dry since he left, this channel is basically dead. Feel free to check out his new channel "kyle hill" though
I bet Kyle tried to make Fizzy Lifting Drinks.
This has turned into the AMC channel of science UA-cam channels.
Bruh I used to have the same profile icon xd
What if the room you drink it in is filled with something other than air? Something heavier. I don’t know ob out gasses n stuff but maybe there is is something like this?
Would you instantly explode if you were hit by Mr. Freeze's freeze ray?
your my hero kyle
I do believe I just saw you on an episode of How to build.... Everything
3:42 Yep. You disproved it was physically possible. So we must assume the "fizzy lifting drink" has some kind of chemical that is lighter than even hydrogen. That is the only way it could be done by drinking 1-2 bottles which is I think the movie wanted us to believe.
So, you just proved that Wonka's factory is magical because it breaks science.
Would it be possible to create a solution that was not a water-soluble hydrogen but rather a chemical that has a reaction to stomach acid and then transforms into hydrogen?
Oh the humanity!!
@Sci_Phile how much energy would it take to cut the moon in half like in naruto, or blow most of it into oblivion like in assassination classroom?
Kyle has left Because Science and started his own channel called Kyle Hill.
WHAT IF IT MAKES THEM START FARTING AND THEY LIFT UP FROM THE REACTIVE FORCE?
Wonka: Creats gas made of photons, neutrons, electrons that has no mass and therefore isn't affected by gravity and repels the negative charge of the earth.
1:57 you made me laugh😄
Imagine being so desperate for views that you're still posting videos of a guy who left your channel almost two months ago.
This comment was made by the not desperate gang.
I have a question it involves super powers. What if a person could generate enough electricity to stop bullets or use it as a method to fly such as Black Lightning or Static Shocks? How much power would they need to produce to do such tasks and what would happen to the environment and those around them?
Um, didn't he publish that already?
Yeah I always figured that it was Shenanigans with that movie because they were doing things that were essentially magical I figured that what Charlie and his grandfather to drink somehow lessened if not outright in the gate it the force of gravity on the person who drink it and then an order for it to work it had to essentially interact with the person's digestive system cuz remember they didn't start floating until after hit their stomach. Looking at it from a Sci-Fi silly perspective it would likely be something that reacted with gastric acid and produced a temporary lifting a fact which was why by expelling it via burping they were able to lower themselves down to the ground
Reading the comments for the first time in a while. Did Kyle actually leave the channel for good? I assumed the shortage of normal videos was due to Covid-19.
He has his own channel now.
How many times did the editor look over this and make sure 100% that it for sure an F and not a J?
Just remember Willy Wonka he's made a new chemical for the fizzy drink he also made the television where the big candy bar can go through a TV set so he breaking the mode of scientific exploration by just chocolate and for that he could pretty much be a mad scientist and we won't know about it all we know is that he is just the owner of the chocolate factory
But I like to think of is, how heavy must the bottle be to contain something that, in one serving, can lift a ~100 lb grandpa?
I've got a topic I want you to cover
What would someone experiencing time dilation look like to someone who wasn't and vice versa?
He's not on this channel anymore. This is a reupload, without his permission
Make a video on the injustice 2 back X/A attack
well done on doing willy wonka reading the contract
Just a thought, "What if the drink didn't hold the gas but a reactive that turned substances inside you (HCl acid?) into gas...
I love science!
Can you talk about how GN drives work from gundam 00
Kyle isn't on the channel anymore. His new channel is kyle hill
So you'd have to have a room whose air density is significantly increased in order to lower the amount of liquid needed. What if there was a gas that could be cooled enough to be rendered liquid that wouldn't freeze your insides as it warmed up to a gaseous state in the body.
“Hydrogen is the lightest gas in the universe” is a great example of one of the things humans know that’s absolute. You can’t have an atom with less than 1 proton. Meaning you can’t have a gas that’s less dense. Yet when it comes to stuff like UFOs, people constantly think there’s loads of physics or materials we just don’t know of yet that could break the laws of physics. The laws of physics can’t just be broken.
Yeah, if you could bend space, you could travel between two points faster than light otherwise would, but you’d crush yourself in the process. Science doesn’t work like imaginary FTL drives. Therefor, no, you didn’t see a UFO.
I don't believe the mass of the object is directly related to it's number of protons, neutrons and electrons. At least with metal you have lower atomic numbers that are heavier than higher numbers. So how can we be absolutely sure Hydrogen is the lightest gas there is? Density is about the number of molecules in a space. There could be a gas with strong repulsion to itself that is naturally less dense. IDK, I'm just questioning everything. Lol
Could it not be that the drink alters Charlie's biology like the blubbery pie in some way to make his mass lighter then the density of air
What about bubbles that go down
Welp time to hoard soda to try this out
You are a best!!!💪💪
i mean i guess you could also have him simultaneously... eliminate... all the water and other non-gases in the sodas he'd drinking so that you dont have to drink infinite soda, just a few million
gonna hold out for willy wonka's antimatter drinks for negative mass though
Well you'd have to make an element much lighter that hydrogen and have a super heavy bottle to counter that. I'd like to see equations on that :v
This was published in 2016 wtf
0:36 My initial impressions ? No. If you had a kind of chemical reaction that could lift you like this, it would rupture out of your chest fighting your own body's weight. While it would - ah - lift, you would remain on the ground with a torn belly or wherever it is the "fizzy lifting drink" resides.
An easier way to look at this is imagine a metal HOOK inside your chest. Let us say for now there is no external appearance or influence, it is just a metal hook that can magically go up in the air grabbing whatever is in your chest as it goes.
Yes, to lift you it would rupture out of your chest tearing it open. The hook would pull free but your torn body would remain on the ground.
How light would a gas need to be to lift you in only 1 bottle?
Can you do an episode on if humans have wings new skeletal system and muscle system etc
if humans had wings/the ability to fly, we would consider it exercise and never do it
Perhaps it interacts with the human stomach to begin a chemical reaction that essentially turns a human stomach into a living "gas factory" for a short time?
-BlackBird
I'm a fan from all the way in 2017
Ugo Fantozzi did it by drinking Bertier water, the world most fizzy water
Wait Charlie is eating the glass bottles?!
Bravo 👏🏼 🌹
here's the answer: it isn't just a normal gas. it's a nanotech antigrav system. lol scifi
What if the sodas have a substantial Iron content that, if Charlie was beneath an adequate electromagnet could counter a bit of the gravity and aid in his lift? I didn't think too hard on this but wanted to provide another possibility to make it more feasible. Big fan, have a great day.
I think he'd have to drink staight molten iron
@@rulerworld1289 ha, probably. It's that or the iron is launched out of his body when he burps. There are other, stronger ferromagnetic materials that could be in there but i used iron since I know humans can consume it safely. Neodymium is pretty freaking strong.
RIP Good ole content..
Hey Kyle, I have a question I would like you to consider making a video on, How much shrimp would you have to eat to turn your skin pink? I asked, because I eat a lot of shrimp and flamingos turn pink when they eat shrimp. No one on the internet seems to have a solid answer on this question. I just thought I would ask a jack of all trades expert.
You would need to go to Kyle's real channel Kyle Hill, these are old videos of him they keep on posting because they still have little idea how to move on
The concept and science was pretty meh just cause the premise is so obviously impossible. But the monologues made it so worth.
what if the gravity could be changed in the room or the pressure, what if it was written from a surviver of WW2 and knew how a human, can be moved in different ways.. you changed the balllon , what about changing the atmosphere. whst if the drink altered your inners to be lighter in a heavier atmosphere ,the room has a pressure altering device ,the fan, or vise a versa. still love the magic and there is no christmas with out a RD novel conversions to movies.
From now on we keep our feet on the ground.
Cody's lab made gas sink under a liquid.
Its just an agent which gives charlie a local micro gravity.... solved via scifi
How many cow farts would it take to get to Mars?
And also possibly hallucinogens.
Questions if you lightyear skipping does that mean your getting older earth years?? 🤔🤔🤔
Tell us what would happen if you shot the Death Star laser at the sun
What if it was liquid hydrogen but then was evaporated back in to a gas.
5:00 You sir are a super nerd. By the way did you know that Gene Wilder did not tell the little boy Charlie that he was going to be yelled that they were good friends during the whole movie so his reaction during that scene it’s complete real reaction there is no acting
Why dissolve it in water?
