I’ve been creating an audio drama series that takes place in 1961. I never would’ve expected a 3+ hour long video about movies at the time for such a random year. Needless to say, this is incredibly educational and greatly helps me! Thank you!
1961 has some amazing performances: Rita Moreno in West Side Story, Brigid Bazlen in King of Kings, Montgomery Clift and Marlene Dietrich in Judgment at Nuremberg, Paul Newman in The Hustler, Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's, Vivien Leigh in The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone, Betty Lou Gerson in 101 Dalmatians, Marilyn Monroe in The Misfits... I love this year!
I like Doug's vids, too, although I don't like when he does skits with other characters. I just don't find them funny or entertaining. However, I have 3 playlists of movie reviews, analyses, etc., which contain 2 of my fave Nostalgia Critic vids: "Signs" and "Patch Adams". Those vids are hilarious! I love that he sets the record straight on Patch Adams!
I absolutely love "X" year in film. Thank you for your hard work and wit you bring to these. 3.5 hours of content is a labor of love. GREAT STUFF. BTW you are a far better entertainer than many who make similar content. Stoned Gremlin should have many more subs.
Thank you Brad for all of your hard work. I've been watching this for three days, and I'm only twenty-eight minutes in. Because I have to stop, to look up trailers, songs, or the movies themselves that are on UA-cam. I like being interested in things I never knew existed.
Another awesome video presentation! Well researched, cleverly written zingers, great editing, and your passionate love of cinema comes through beautifully! No surprise at all that you've got so many subs! I wish I wasn't so petty as to say that sometimes I'm just not diggin' your choice of voice. For sure, zillions of people love it and they're right, I'm a not-right. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed your different voices throughout the years, your creativity is to be admired! Even going waaay back to your Bum Reviews! Just sometimes, I wish I could choose between your "OverTheTop AM Radio Morning Guy" voice and the voice from your 10 Worst Cliche's video. Anyhow, small enough of a flaw that I oughtn't have mentioned it.... Keep up the excellent work!
Thank you Snob! These [Year] in Movies have become the best thing on UA-cam. Ever! Look forward to both 1962 (my birth year) and 1983 (my 21st). My favorite two from this year are The Hustler and The Innocents. Paula Prentiss married Richard Benjamin in 1961! I hope Jim Hutton was invited to the wedding.
12:35 - I asked Siri to order me '5 Golden Hours'. I was surprised when I answered the door to find 5 women with a plastic sheet - I was horrified at what happened next.
My grandpa had a vhs recording tape of One eyed jacks. Only watched it once as I usually was watching nickelodeon or my early introductions to anime at the time if Ruroni Kensington and Yu Yu Hakusho..
Such a stark contrast when comparing the films of the 1960’s and the 1980’s but so informative! When you finish out those two decades I really hope you cover the 1970’s! Because that was truly a real golden era for film!!
Fun Fact: @ 1:29 while shooting his movie, "The Ladies Man", Jerry Lewis invented video-assist (running a video camera next to the film camera so he could see what he just shot), a technique still in use today!
I wish these came out more frequently, I'm liking these more than the normal Cinema Snob episodes these days. Though I'm sure these wouldn't be financially viable to do frequently, given how long they have to take to research, film, and edit, plus the notoriously low viewer retention long videos have.
I knew King of Kings was made in 1961, which is the year I was born, but I had no idea the other movies, Reptilicus, Gorgo, (both of which I watched as a kid), Judgement at Nuremburg, and The Children's Hour (both of which I watched as an adult) were also released that year. It was also interesting to note the mix of black & white vs. color movies. Thanks for making this video! This took an insane amount of time & work to compile!
My dad was a big fan of Johnny Cash when he was alive, and I never heard of the film door to door maniac, I might see it bc I do like that genre of thriller
3:20:14 - I thought he said that her name was Bertha, as in Bertha Butt. 3:20:21 - She was one of the Butt Sisters. Nice take on the Jimmy Castor Bunch reference in the song “Troglodyte”.
1:29:00 This incredible set work and mise-on-scene shows why Jerry Lewis is so respected in the world of film. He's also credited with inventing the precursor to video assist technology, which is used to support film making.. A very underrated genius, and worthy of recognition.
I loved West Side Story, I've never seen the recent remake yet. I did see Babes In Toyland. It was on TCM when they did these Disney movie nights hosted by Leonard Malton.
When you see the Margaret Rutherford Miss Marple trailer, you actually see for a fleeting moment an actress called Joan Hiskson, who played Miss Marple in the eighties. She was actually the closest to the actual book character.
"Diabolical laboratory, where humans were turned into half-men, half-beast!" Yes, yes, yes, we've all heard this explained by Dartz in Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged.
Stella Stevens at 2:33:23... My brain: "Bb-...b..-qb.... ... ..Buh?" Could any modern actress *sound* like this? Probably not, in the truest sense, because of "generational" differences. In short, how women were supposed to treat men, be fully feminine, and utilize their evolved strengths, instead of taking on the roles/mannerisms of their "subjectors". Yes, yes, such extremity! Brad, please! "Saturn 3" Snob episode! I need to hear CS's analyses of this genius vehicle, its meteor field(?) that Harvey Keitel-Dubbins traverses, and Kirk Douglas versus Farrah Fawcett in a..."nakedness comparison".
Kick back and relax as The Cinema Snob takes you through all the movies of 1961!

I'm named after Audie Murphy. I love the inclusion of his Westerns in the video. Can't wait for 1963. Snob On!
Yess!!! Dude I’m so hyped, thank you Brad!!

Thank you, Cinema Snob. You have given me a wonderful list of movies to watch for the first time or to rematch after much to long of a time.

Hi Brad! ❤️❤️

Hell Yeah!!! Subscribed!!!
These are the best. Still looking forward to the return of the 80s by year pieces.
Come September used to play a lot on television. It's totally forgotten now.
Mothra’s solo movie was also released in 1961.
The snob should do this for every year of the 60s.
But of course, I’m asking for too much
He did 60 and 61 so there's a possibility for more
1:09:23 Jesus between this, Maniac, and Amityville Horror, you're really drawn to Screamers Brad.
so chock full of jokes! thoroughly enjoyed!
Brad you uploaded to the wrong channel man, this isn't Stoned Gremlin Productions
49:15 Too soon!😢 #RIPLloyd
Man, even back then there were tons of sequels, remakes, and adaptations of books.
Is Brad posting here now??
Nope, he will still post Cinema Snobs as well as his other videos on his channel. We are trying this series (year in review) on our channel.
They're tricksees that way 😁

For me to bookmark
My headcanon is that "Everything's Ducky" follows Buddy Hackett and Mickey Rooney's characters after the events of It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World.
"Diabolical laboratory, where humans were turned into half-men, half-beast!" Yes, yes, yes, we've all heard this explained by Dartz in Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged.
After all those references, I now really want Cash McCalll review.
Where's my Konga vs Gorgo movie, British Mockbusters!?
RIP Lloyd 😔
How many has he done? I'm seeing one for 1980 and 81, but not many others
He has '82 and '83 on Patreon iirc
20:50 Seth MacFarlane in a million ways to die in the west.
2:06 :07 The Narrator called him Truman Capote ?
Is the woman in Taste of Honey the intro/outro woman with the lyre from Dr. Zhivago? Totally looks like her.
I wish I could like it twice
The go~r, the go~r is go~ing!
why is it that amarican and brithis movies were in black and white in the 60s while danish movies were in colour
"Town Without Pity" also featured in the original Hairspray movie, if I 'member creckly.
Howard Keel was also SAG President, where he was succeeded by Bedtime for Bonzo star Ronald Reagan.
Gidget Goes Hawaiian(1961) is a fun comedy.
Finally some legit CA content again! ;)
My dad has a issue of konga I thought it was a one off or just some weird old comic.
That sounds like Paul Frees doing the Atlantic trailer?
