The Twilight Zone (marketed as Twilight Zone for its final two seasons) is an American anthology television series created and presented by Rod Serling, which ran for five seasons on CBS from 1959 to 1964. Each episode presents a stand-alone story in which characters find themselves dealing with often disturbing or unusual events, an experience described as entering "the Twilight Zone," often with a surprise ending and a moral. Although predominantly science-fiction, the show's paranormal and Kafkaesque events leaned the show towards fantasy and horror. The phrase "twilight zone," inspired by the series, is used to describe surreal experiences.

Oh yes, I've been ready since last November. I can't wait to see your recaps, Walter.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hell yeah!
Hell, yeah!!
Aye!😱👍🤣
I met Jack Klugman in a tiny bar in Sydney in about 1986. I went to the bar to buy a beer and he was sitting at the bar reading a newspaper. I knew him from The Odd Couple so I recognised him immediately. Introduced myself and told him I was a fan and offered to buy him a drink. He asked me to join him and we chatted for about an hour. What a lovely man, so interesting to talk to. A treasured experience.
😲🤩
He seemed like he just sent out "nice guy" vibes
In case viewers don’t know, there’s 156 episodes of the original Twilight Zone. That’s literally equivalent to 5 years with a twin bill finale at the very end. So we’ve got a bit
Coolness, so we've got until at least 2024 before Walter finishes these reviews.
@@trinaq Technically the double release can happen at any point, but any more than the 1 would leave things faster and I’m not sure we need Walter covering over 60 in a year
He could also decide to tackle the 3 reboot series to keep it going...🤔
@@ronnellsykes5648 Indeed! That’ll get him another 4 (65, 43, 20=128). I would expect the last 2 to be continuous and not split off in terms of Tober Zone production
And what about the revi-actually nevermind.
There are 3 creepiest episodes that always come to the forefront of my memory and 1 of them is on this list, which is the one with mannequins. As a kid, I suffered from regular terrible nightmares and one of them was about being attacked by mannequins in a department store after getting separated from my parents while shopping. It wasn't until I was an adult and happened to catch that episode that I realized that was what it was most probably from. The other two are Little Girl Lost, with that chilling child's voice coming out of the walls. By far the scariest episode I ever saw was the old bedridden woman getting repeated phone calls with a creepy garbled voice. You learn at the end in the most awesome but terrifying Twilight Zone twist, it was actually her long lost fiancé, who you don't realize is dead until she goes to his grave site and there's a fallen telephone wire laying across is grave. I couldn't sleep after seeing that episode!
The mannequin episode stayed with me 🥴. I still think about it sometimes. Scary as hell.
I don't have fear of mannequin attacking me, but whenever I see the head of one in a barber shop I'd imagine it turn around and stares at me. I hate all dolls and puppets in general.
"Who do you think you're fooling, Marsha?"
As someone who learned to play trumpet, his fixation with giving the mouthpiece that amount of mouth action, isn't actually far off
To this day, I CANNOT watch Art Carney's monologue in 'Night of the meek' withou tearing up.
This is one of my favorite episodes. As well as the "Cnanging of the Guard.". This one also makes me cry.
Man..one of the highlights of October. Love these retrospectives one of my favorite all time shows.
Rod Serling was a genius. All these episodes were way ahead of their time. Twighlight Zone was before my time but watching reruns I can say each episode left you guessing or wondering what good have been. You know you have a hit when Hollywood stars want to make guest appearances on this show. It is a shame Rod Serling was a heavy smoker and passed away way to young from lung cancer. He could have done this show well into the 70's
Yeah he was a genius, and obviously well read. A lot of episodes are based on historical stories from a Greek, Roman and even Arabic legends, works from Oscar Wilde, Shakespeare, Billy Wilder etc.
@@aldunlop4622can you expand on that? I don't recall this being said before.
Jack Klugmans performance in the original - original - 12 Angry Men was (and remains) beyond excellent. As was the performance(s) of everyone else. One of the best movies ever.
I thought it was strange when he was noting Klugman's prior work on 12 Angry Men and The Odd Couple but left out Quincy. It was on the air one more season than the Odd Couple.
One of my favourite actors. He was brilliant in The Odd Couple, which was remade as Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory. All were based on a Neil Simon play.
@@aldunlop4622 BBT? How so?
Only 7 more days. I'm excited about the return of this great show. Happy Autumn everyone, it is going to be a beautiful season.
I know for a fact, the twilight Tolbert will go on forever
Yes, I'm so excited for Twilight Tober Zone 2022! It's my new favourite thing about October, I adore Walter's concise reviews. 💞
ty for doing this. as a kid my local UHF channel 38 in Boston would air TZ nights after 11pm.
I'd watch every night during summer vacation from school. loooooong time ago man.
"Call me Gabe."
"Gabe?"
"Short for Gabriel."
:')
God, I can't wait for twilight-tober zone!
It's always my favorite thing to tune into!
Twilight toblerone
Ann Francis looks like a 1960s Barbie doll I had that bought at a yard sale in perfect condition when I was 12.
Mattel may have USED HER as a prototype ?
She was beautiful
“ 100 yards over the rim” is one of my favorites for many reasons: Cliff Robertson’s performance , the beautiful stark desert, and that I too survived a near fatal childhood disease. This episodes speaks to me.
I’ve become so addicted to this series, there is actually a variety of types of stories and it’s perfect to watch for October
I'm actually in the middle of a Twilight Zone rewatch right now. Can't wait for year 3 of Twilight-Tober Zone!
"If you'll excuse my observation, miss Jana. You sound jealous ". Then Jana throws her down the stairs. Then she gets back up with thee creepiest grin and turns to show it to Jana.
That was probably the most shocking part of that episode. The way she fell down the stairs and instanly gets up smiling.
LET'S GO!!!! Been waiting all year for this to come out cause it means the next wave of Twilight Zone episodes is on it's way.
Just Netflix and chill, dude.!!?😂😂😂
Brandon?
I'm so glad that I found this today. I've watched the Tober Zone original over and over and over again... I love these quality B/W Classics.
Can't wait for this year's as it'll have the scariest episode ever. The one with Billy Mumy as little Anthony. The boy with unchecked powers and turns that guy into a Jack In The Box.
It doesn’t get much Twilight Zonier than that one!
I've been wondering how many Twilight Zoners watching this channel have seen the 80's Twilight Zone Movie? Because of the 4 stories they remade, 2 of them are prominently acclaimed episodes that are regularly commented on here. One was the Billy Mummy episode and the other was the creature on the plane wing with William Shatner and IMHO, I think the remakes are way better than the original, especially Flight 351 which features the super talented John Lithgow and a much more Gollum-like creature.
Literally found the other video last night and just finished it.....now finding this one posted an hour ago. A fortunate set of circumstances found only in the Twilight Zone
This series has been a big part of why I look forward to October!
The eye of the beholder
Dr.: Nurse, have you seen my cigarettes?
Nurse: Yes, Dr., You left them on top of the oxygen tanks.
I enjoyed last year's Twilightober immensely.
interesting agnes moorehead and dick york were in back to back episodes (invaders, and penny for your thoughtr), elizabeth montgomery david white and jack warden also appeared in episodes of the twight zone they all went on to be on the Bewitched television show. moorehead montgomery white and york being main characters.
John Anderson...one of the best character actors to ever grace the small screen. I've seen so many Bonanza, Rifleman, and Gunsmoke episodes to name a few shows with him in them. Never played the same character, but always gave 110%.
One of the creepiest episodes is *’Twenty Two’*
That actress *TOTALLY* nailed the creepy nurse character.
The way she looks while saying *“Room for one more honey”* , still gives me chills🫣🥺😭
Arlene Martel also played T'Pring in Star Trek's "Amok Time" and nailed that performance as well. She was also the girl in the bar in Twilight Zone's "What You Need", I think
@@chag1pyk5
Yes, you’re absolutely right about the *”What You Need”* episode.
I also saw her in an episode of *’Columbo’* , I think she played a secretary or something🤔
She has beautiful eyes
I watched these all when they were first aired. It was the highlight of my week. It was BIG!
the after hours freaked me out when i was a kid
One of my favorite episodes is Living Doll. "My name is Talking Tina, and I don't think I like you..."
When the compilation comes, you know the new one is coming. 🤟🤟
@3:01 Serling was a CHAIN SMOKER. So it was not unusual to see him with a lit cigarette in his hand - but it was usually in interviews as you could smoke during interviews as they were sponsors for TV, and in the 60s they really needed sponsors. Hell, he died of a heart attack at 50. Great writer. Arguably one of the greatest of all time.
I wished he lived longer. He was a television genius.
I can't watch this Santa Claus Christmas episode without crying every single time I see its ending. I love this channel absolutely love it. But you are SOOOOO WRONG on "Room For One More!" Honey! Room For One More achieved something rare in US TV it had a creepy British Horror Movie vibe that just blew my young self away. This one gave me nightmares in all the best ways. I went on for weeks hearing that woman's creepy voice. Room for one more hiney! Everytime I go to the airport I think of her. This episode did not make me fear flying. I've flown a lot since. Her voice just makes my skin crawl saying Room For One More Honey.
I can't wait for twilight-tober. Best time of the year.
Tales from the crypt was my twilight zone. The late 80s early 90s were good times. I used to get special permission to stay up late on Wednesday nights til 1030 just to watch. That show ran from when I was 8 to 13 I believe.
I remember watching the film Demon Knight when I was small and my mum covered my eyes during the scene with the topless girls 😅
Three films come to mind;
Minority Report(thoughts don't always lead to actions, the old bank man changed his mind).
Final Destination("room for one more," giving a feeling of dread and death).
And Stephen King's The Langoliers(a flight that inexplicably traverses time by flying through a cloud).
I love these themed monthly videos in October and May. They make me happy and I'm excited to catch up here and then watch the new ones all of October!
I love the Twilight Zone since I was a kid. I love all the episodes. I glad that You Tube runs the show and I can watch anytime.
I can't wait for October to see this series confine
When I first seen this before the man said his name was Gabriel I thought he looked like Abe Lincoln with a shorter beard lol
I saw the original Agnes Moore vs. Astronauts when it first aired. I was 7 years old and I was terrified. I totally believed her and the tiny spacemen freaked my shite.
This is so awesome, so glad you did another of these!!!
Man, thank you so much for doing what I could not do (watch every episode). You are enhancing the experience by summarizing the great parts. Please continue doing this. Maybe do other series. And the intro with the suit is above and beyond. Excellent job.
I enjoyed all of your insight and background on the episodes. I actually love many of the ones you said to skip. Thank you for all the work you put into these Twilight Zone compilations. It was a treat, very enjoyable.
Great job man! TZ is easily my favorite show of all time. I'll watch these over and over. Thank you!
Nice, I literally have nothing else to watch today.
Twightlight ToberZone is my favorite series on UA-cam 😂 I'm upset this isn't a documentary I can buy😂
My favorite part of October is now Twilight-Tober!!
That’s right! The Halloween season is coming up. And that means another season of Twilight-tober.
Eye of the beholder was reused, with a slight adjustment, in Serling's Night Gallery.
I was waiting for this one! Omg I can't believe I waited months for the full comp video
I haven’t sat in a window seat since I saw that movie 20,000 feet. I always expect to see that monster outside my window. I’m 68 years old 😱
Indeed! I'd keep the window shade closed, too
I'm so excited for another round of this. Thank you!!!!!
Still throughly enjoying these! Thanks for all the hard work!
YES!!! Love this series and love your reviews. Can't wait for this years review!!!
I love Twilight-tober! I always look forward to each episode.
I think you're right about the massage of the William Shatnar fortune teller episode. It's DOESN'T matter if the fortune teller was actually predicting the future or not. Because the machine was actually dictating their future instead. They were slaves to the answers and made them fit what ever situation that came about. This is shown with the couple at the end of the episode. Who no longer lived their own lives and the machine created their future for them
Thank goodness the wife didn't fall for it and remained rational. The husband would have stayed at that table with a fist full of nickels til the end of time.
YAAAAY! Can't wait for the new episodes! Been looking forward to this!
It’s almost time! I absolutely loved these! I can’t wake for this year
Sheriff Koch had some great lines."How do you teach your kids pain? Break one of their arms?" "It only sounds big to you, Sikes. Because you're a midget"
Really dig the synopsis of all the episodes. Definitely worth a watch! Thanks for your hard work
I first saw John Fielder as the villain Mr. Hengist/Redjack in Star Trek's original series episode "Wolf in the Fold", so I actually totally bought him as the boss in this episode, much more than as the sweet and innocent "Piglet".
Literally actually totally bought.
The music praised by Walter in "Back There" was also famously used at the climax of the B-movie "Kingdom of the Spiders".
Ok, has anyone said yet ?
"Marsha, Marsha, Marsha" ! LOL
Warning! Most addictive contribution to UA-cam that I have found for some time. I desire to see every installment from here on.
Lol. When the actress said that, I saw Maureen McCormick in my head!
Howling Man has always been a Top 5 Zone for me. As is Eye of the Beholder.
Just love these! Very well done!!
Timestamps would be a godsend but thank you for providing so much content for Twilight Zone fans
"The After Hours" reminds me a lot of "Carnival of Souls."
Definitely!
This is my favorite thing on this channel. ❤
Wow! That was amazing and obviously a ton of work which you did and enjoyed (as you said yourself but I became aware of whilst watching.)
I have always liked the Twilight Zone which my mother who I lived with didn't appreciate, she wasn't into sci-fi, actually, not many female friends enjoyed it either come to think of it.
I have an appreciation for the what if's, the strange and the dark, and enjoyed the way you had your done so much research and pointed out so many interesting things about the episodes.
But I haven't seen many of the original series, I grew up in the 1980's and the ones that I remember are when people are stuck inside a house, maybe it's not the Twilight Zone actually lol, but it's like their house is in a box and I think it is as a dollhouse or something and another Twilight Zone were someone is stuck inside a world where a nuclear bomb is on it's way, they had had the ability to stop time. I saw the idea of the later done in Amazon's Tales from the Loop.
I would be more inclined to go and watch some of these originals now, at least I know what I may prefer.
Thanks very much for the video.
Your review on the last one made me buy the box set 😁
Although the series went off the air a few years before I was born, I've seen it many times in syndication and it's definitely one of my favorites. However, I dont know if its because Im getting older now myself, but with the passing of years and the realization that the vast majority of actors, writers and others who worked on this show have passed away, watching it now gives me an even more eerie, discomforting feeling than it did originally.
These are a ton of fun bud I like your retrospective stuff they are fun I'm a brand new viewer bit since yesterday I been kinda binge watching 😁
Grew up loving TZ thank you for bringing these great stories and things that I never realized to new generations. 🌹
Can't wait for more Twilight Tober Zone!
The Howling Man is one of my absolute favorites
I can tell that just like me, Rod Serling was a naturally nervous flier. In the gazillion times I’ve flown I always felt jittery and nervous during the first portion of the flight every time. But then I rapidly get used to it and after awhile the flight doesn’t bother me anymore. It takes me awhile to get used to it.
These are so well done, and your voice is pleasant..without being smarmy....thanks
I love Twilight-Tober! After I watched 2020 I was counting the days until I hopefully got a 2021. Then it happened! Twilight-Tober 2021!! It was awesome! I can't wait until we get Twilight-Tober 2022, although I feel reality did a good enough job this time. Can't wait!!! I love these!!
Love this compilation! Some wonderful, memorable episodes in season 2. Thanks for the little tit bits! Always sooooo entertaining
Hey, glad you're back!
Rod/TZ is to psychology is what JMS/Babylon 5 is to philosophy/religion. Both epic, both to be enjoyed and both absolutely - absolutely - worthy of rewatching and actual reflection [for my money, B5 remains the best series ever].
Great compilation(s).
Thank you
I didn't realize the compilation was out! Let me get some popcorn.
@1:31 Inger Stevens communicated fear and hysteria with her eyes ... and illustrated it beautifully and terrifyingly in both Hitchhiker and Lateness of the Hour. Strange how the blonde actresses, Stevens and Anne Francis both played dead or non-alive , sentient beings, as well .. a foreshadowing of Marilyn Monroe?
I'll give a hint to the outcome of "The after hours" that nobody ever notices. It has something to do with when shes laying on the couch.16:22 When you see the end and remember the couch scene, you'll get it. You'll totally get it.
Well, since you showed it anyways, shes holding the same pose as a manniquin on the couch as she is at 18:26, when she becomes a mannequin again
This is the best thing channel awesome ever did
Thanks for these videos! I’m a big fan!
Ah, few days before the twilight zone montth
2:40:41
I'm
GETTING SENTIMENTAL OVER YOU is one of my favorite songs from that era..it ask sounds like it was written in the 1920s
Hell yeah October is near and is time to revisit the mystery of the twilight Zone one again
Thank you for this
King Nine was one of my favorites. There’s very few of the Twilight Zone episodes I don’t love and it’s television like this in the 1950s and 60s got m e hooked on TV.
I am absolutely loving this! I can't wait to watch more of these videos. I absolutely love the Twilight Zone but one thing and only 1 thing bothers me is that you actually say there's episodes that can be skipped. I don't think anybody if there is anybody who is new to the Twilight Zone should miss any ea soad I certainly like others better than some but I watch them all everetime. Command you said you're a fan how could you miss an episode even if it's not your favorite.
Nervous Man in a Four Dollar Room - My God what performance. I first saw this in Junior High - it was brilliant.
"I wanna live with all the guts and goodness your left behind
I wanna live the dreams you dreamed and never had the guts to live!!"
-Nervous Man in a Four Dollar Room
such a great series! i recommend it all the time
1:32:43 I've always loved that line he says afterward "When a man my age marries a women her age, he gets exactly what he deserves" :)
Damn, I enjoy these!!!
Make another one for next year, please!!🙏
