- This is the unboxing and setup of one of the first custom backboxes from Buy Stuff Store. This is my first unboxing/setup video and is not considered a review (one may follow). Please like (hopefully), subscribe, and comment.
Note: I already regret filming in portrait. Future videos will be landscape.
The backbox can be purchased soon at buystuffarcade...
Looks awesome, nice install👍.
I recommend a tripod for cam and 16:9 landscape recording but otherwise great review.
Thanks. Was one of my first videos. Please check out the headphone roundup and see if you think things improved.
Great job, especially for your first video. Excellent commentary as you installed the back box.
Thank you for your comment David. I'm hoping they've improved over time. Should have more reviews up soon.
Thanks for doing this Raskull…mine is soon to arrive and am nervous just plugging it in. It should look exactly like yours!
If you need any help, reach out on discord or FB messenger.
You know me, I would like to see V-board in the corners that creates corner integrity and a very small void space between outer carton and inner foam. That said good custom box. Thanks for the video!!!
Thanks for watching Camo. BSS is still tweaking the design and taking all input.
Thanks for the demonstration. Will use this video once I get my own
Glad it was helpful!
Nice, would like to see a side by side though to compare size differences etc.
Great point. Here is a picture I took of them between recordings of this video. instagram.com/p/CdJBt5bMlFD/
I hope this helps.
@@Raskull LOL! That's about what i figured, thanks man. I kind of dread setting this all up with baller installer but i think i can do it lol.
Great video Scott! It will serve as a excellent reference as more people get these.
That's what I was going for. Thanks for watching. Make sure you subscribe to get alerted to future content.
@@RaskullJust Subbed, thanks again!
@@scottj.7639 Thanks for the sub. Hope I keep putting out content that you find interesting.
Nice thorough unboxing video! I'd still prefer a back to the unit, but overall very nice
Thanks Bee. I too prefer a back on it. They've already said they will probably adding it as an option. Now I just have to figure out a good way to put a back on mine.
i guess I'm only one don't keep back penal on .lol it not like you can see it on or off . you never know one day you may lose that key for original backglass back penal
Great video. Excellent detail. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching. I hope you find other videos helpful too.
Good initial look at the bss backbox. Only thing I would do it add some music to the background of the video will add some production to the video. Just my thought.
I appreciate the feedback. Just starting out on this pre-recorded stuff. I will look at some good royalty free music for background music.
Thanks for the video! The back box looks great. Too bad they are not including a back door for it but that should be something easy enough to make and add.
I agree. I believe they are looking at adding it as an option.
They have since started making back panels for it. They sent me one. I featured it in a recent episode of Basement Corner Arcade Show.
i dont think it need a backglass penal . as right now I'm not using my backglass penal come with ALP . i feel like the vib board make a lot of heat when it on and don't want to trap and heat inside the backglass box just saying
i don't understand why so many people worry about backglass penal and it don't have one . i never keep my back penal on you cant see it anyways and heat from monitor and vib board heat can escape . some people install a fan on backglass if it haves a back penal
I get both points of view. Like you said, when the pinball machine is against the wall, you don't see the back. When it isn't against the wall, we're tinkering, so the back panel is off anyway. Others feel it isn't complete without it. And that's fine. Maybe BuyStuffStore will make the back panel an option that saves money if you say you don't want it. I will pass on your feedback.
@@Raskull no I'm telling you what to do with you pinball machine I'm just saying that is all . just saying i don't use my back penal cuz i feel like Vib board bring out some heat that why i leave it off
@@funtyes1970 It's all good.
Smokers be like "dang son i JUST cleaned that ish last week!" ... seriously lol.
Edit: They come with a back now (still out of stock though). Looks amazing though. I want one. Kinda wish it had a plexi cover.
I'm torn about plexiglass cover. I see the value and then I also see the easily scratched plexis on other devices.
I wouldn't be too worried about scratching it, but after looking at a few other videos I think I like it the way it is. It's a huge upgrade over that tiny stock back box anyway.
@@griftgfx Huge upgrade in more ways than one.
@@Raskull Came back to this because I just put myself on their waiting list. I came around on the plexi. I think that looks better now, but I'm also still considering attempting to build one myself because of the cost and wait.
I’d recommend pinball front end and set up for atgames legends. That stuff is really confusing to me. Next vid!
I can look into it. I will say there is already a lot of content on the subjects. If I get some free time, I will consider it. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@Raskull There are lots of videos but for whatever reason most of them appear to skip steps lol. It looks like i'll have to watch a bunch of videos to get all the steps of setting up the hardware and software, so a video that is comprehensive and complete would do nicely.
@@EQOAnostalgia Thanks for the suggestion. At the time, I using a different front-end for OTG pinball and I wasn't well versed in it. I have been using Pinup Popper (sometimes referred to as Baller Installer) for over 9 months and love it. If you have any questions, feel free to join us on our discord at discord.gg/JbP8uBP2nJ
Consider buying the 1.0 because I don’t play the build in pinball tables. Can you tell me if the images from coin ops X arcade stick would display on the top screen or the small one?
When you use OTG, you can tell the ALP what screen to send the primary display of your computer to. So if you wanted to play on the backbox, you would select "Secondary" display when you change to OTG mode. This should go to the larger display. I would double check with Buy Stuff Arcades to make sure I'm not mis-representing the newer back boxes.
Good video, thanks for sharing. A question, how many outputs do you have on your laptop? How did you by-pass the HDMI/usb on the front of the cabinet? I thought that you had to connect to that one with the upgraded back box.
My laptop has 1 HDMI port that I connect to the playfield. The video should have had a section where I showed the flat cables run from the front ports, under the new back box, and out the back. For the 2 other HDMI ports, I used a Thunderbolt 3 dock that has 2 HDMI, 1 Ethernet, and 2 USB.
Perfect, thanks. It makes sense, I wanted to confirm that the Thunderbolt/usb-c to HDMI worked fine.
Hello there i watched you video and thought that cool a bigger backbox anyway i went to buy stuff store webpages i couldn't find the backbbox i was wondering did they discontinue it☹
They are still selling the. You can find all of their arcade stuff at www.buystuffarcades.com/
Hope this helps. If you like the content, please throw some thumbs ups on the videos and subscribe.
Contact them to get waitlisted.
Scott where did you install your switcher button? When your launch FP/VPX from your laptop at what point do you push your switcher button?
Since I had already drilled the hole on the bottom of the playfield (opposite the power button) I kept it there. That is where you should put the 3D printed button mount too. I push the switcher button as soon as I've put the playfield into OTG mode.
Is the sounds from the PC playing thru the backbox speakers in this config? Or does it just play thru the laptop speakers?
Sound goes through the HDMI to the ALP and play through the Backbox speakers. Just have to make sure you choose the ALP's playfield monitor (usually names Lontium) as the audio output device.
Can't believe they don't include a back on the thing, really bad idea to have that VIBS board exposed to dust and such
They have added a back since this video was taken. My back box was one of the first produced. They have also added options for supplying the VIBS and also 4 speakers (2 OTG and 2 for built-in tables).
@@Raskull Thanks for letting me know! I've been on the waitlist for a while, hopefully getting close
From where did you get the covers/cap for the usb and hdmi connectors cap???
They came with the BSS backbox. Came with cables and caps.
How much did the backbox cost
Currently listed at $529 (includes $70 deposit you get back when you return original back box). There are options to include VIBS board, 4 speakers, amp, sub, etc that would increase the cost. Also, custom artwork costs extra. More info at www.buystuffarcades.com/products/deluxe-backbox-for-atgames-legends-pinball
How tall is the unit with the new backbox?
Total height is 66-1/4" with feet almost fully extended.
Where did you find that playlist playfield video? The one with the hex shapes scrolling up?
Good eye. I really wish there was an FX3 play field video with a bunch of them together. I may stitch one together myself some day. I don’t recall where I found that one. If I find a link, I will share here.
Just came across it while looking for other media. Not sure how long it will last, so grab it while you can.

Did you have to send in your backbox and I checked the website but I did not see the product
I sent my old backbox after setting up my new BSS backbox. It is optional, but you get a credit back if you return the original backbox.
Hi, what's the resolution and size of the backbox
The DMD is the stock 15.6 edp monitor from the stock back box. The additional monitor is 24”. Both are 1920 x 1080. Version 1 is 25-5/8” wide. With feet fully extended on the ALP it is 66-3/8” from floor to top of box.
