    I've just upgraded my ALP with this kit. A big thank you Wagner for your guide without you and people like you in the channels it wouldn't be possible. It has transformed the haptics in the stock tables but the real advantage is visual pinball without a doubt. Before I wasn't impressed with VP as I couldn't feel any bumpers but with the upgrade the haptic/music speaker separation is just a massive game changer. I def owe you a pint if you're over here in England, cheers 🍻

    About a decade ago When i bought my first "larrge" (42" lol) flat panel TV i scoured the internet for days, prolly a week at least, to find a mount that'll allow me to tilt to portrait mode, primarily for vertical shooters as i was unaware of the existence of these electronic pinball tables, now i have all my fave's as a kid and while i don't play them as much as i did a few years ago, I still love their creation and my decision to have built a TV stand out of a solid 4"x4"x8' fence post stud with freekin portrait mode!!
    Great vid as always Wagner's TechTalk. =D

    Hello Jon. Thanks to your channel I own a steam deck and play vpx on my ALP using the deck. It works great. I just installed this upgrade kit and I believe everything is working fine. I just wanted to check 1 thing. The only way I get the system working is by setting the table audio to "Primary Drive" and the backglass music to the HDMI. Also, I have the output on the deck settings set to the HDMI rather than speakers or headphones. I know that is different than you recommended on the video. Just checking to see if that seems appropriate with the deck . Thanks so much for all your videos!

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  Рік тому +1

      Hello, thank you for your feedback! I wouldn't say the way I set it up is the only way to go, if you're getting the sound separation in VPX with your current configuration, it's likely just fine. The music coming through the ALP speakers and the playfield sounds through the haptics kit. The haptics kit makes a world of difference on the ALP doesn't it? I love it! I just got finished playing about 20 min. ago myself.

    Thank you so much for this tutorial. I installed the haptic kit using your online instructions and this video. More UA-camrs need to take the time and do tutorials correctly. They skip steps and don’t talk to you about what may go wrong but you do. You talk about everything have good camera angles and zooms and actually show you step by step. Also I LOVE LOVE LOVE! my Atgames pinball now more than ever. I have Philip’s solenoid kit from Cleveland Software Design and this Haptics Kit installed. I’d say this is as close to the real thing as you can get with owning an Atgames Pinball for $800. Regular video pinballs can be $4000 and real pinball machine can be $6,000-$10,000. Keep up the good work Buystuffarcades! You and Wagner’s tech talk make gaming dreams come true!

    I haven't tried this mod yet, but I will save the video for when I do. You mentioned turning off the accelerometer which I never thought to try on the stock panel. That has solved my issue of turning up haptics and causing the "ghost nudge". Now I actually want to play this machine again!

    At 10:33, you mentioned to plug in the 90 degree angled end of the short audio cable. I had no such cable with a 90 degree connection, so I just skipped that step altogether. I don't use the A/B switch at all.

      There should have been a short 3.5mm audio cable included if you got the Deluxe Haptics Kit. If not, you may need to contact BSA (if you want one, that is). If you want to switch between the native ALP tables and the PC, you'll want it.

    Hello there. I was wondering if you had any guidance specifically on the 4 speaker backbox setup. When my Deluxe Backbox 2.0 arrived, the bottom two speakers are wired directly into the amp in the backbox. However, the top two speakers are not connected to anything at all. I never realized over a whole year that these two speakers were not being used. This guide seems to be more for a two speaker setup and I can't find anyone, even BuyStuff, show how to connect the four speaker setup. I am connected to the mainboard of the ALP used the cables in the RCA harness. The top speakers have the same connecter as the RCA harness, but nowhere to plug them in. To provide some background, I recently upgraded my ALP playfield with an LG Ultragear. I have everything connected properly, but no sound. I'm wondering if these speakers not being connected is the reason for no sounds. Please give this some thought. I can share pictures or videos too. I appreciate any feedback you may have!

    I've been going through your ALP videos as I have one coming on Saturday. I've been playing videogames since around 1989, and have always wanted a pinball table, but couldn't bring myself to get a full table. I'm thinking in the long run I'll be having a desktop computer living in the ALP and be doing a few of the upgrades you've gone over as then I'll have one table, which will function as MANY. Thanks for all of the information and you present it in a fantastic way.

      You're very welcome Judson! I play my ALP usually daily here, that's 2 years after receiving it. There are so many great tables both on the platform and on PC. Lately I've been obsessed with trying to improve my leaderboard ranking on the Natural History tables. While enjoying the PC + Steam Deck via OTG also, there is so much fun to be had also with the tables from AtGames. I personally think the NH are must-have tables, they are so well-done and fun to play.

      On my machine, VPX and FX3 didn't have much flipper lag with j2k. However, recently I've been testing Pinball FX (latest version on Steam). With that, my PC did experience severe flipper lag. As a result, I tried another mapping tool and created a mapping configuration for it. Not only did it help with Pinball FX but FX3 and VPX also played a bit better. You can read more about how to set it up here if you want to try it out: wagnerstechtalk.com/alpfx/#Button_Mapping . Xpadder isn't free, it's $10, but for my setup was totally worth it.

It seems like when it works the invidea logo pops up on the playfield then disappears. I hear a pop of sound when these changes happen. Since the bottom of the cabinet is cheap MDF, won't it just be a matter of time before the weight and vibration of the woofer strips those screws out and drop your speaker to the floor? Is it not possible to mount the woofer inside the cabinet? Bass and sub-bass sounds are omnidirectional, thus can be placed anywhere to have some effect.

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  2 роки тому

      It's MDF, not cheap. It's actually pretty thick (I think 3/4"). I bought a sheet a few years ago 8'x6' was $80. Pretty sure the bass shaker won't be coming loose anytime. However, if you want to mount it inside totally up to you. You may want to check with BSA for their recommendations on placement. What you saw in this video was based on their recommendations.

    So I’ve installed the kit using this guide, thanks for the wonderful video. I’m having a weird issue and I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be like this, but it seems the alp is routing music to one of the exciters. The idea scared/excited the heck out of me, I had virtually no woodworking experience at the time. Eventually, I went out and bought some MDF sheets, sketched out a bar top cabinet design and built my first cabinet. Looking back, I just wish I had started sooner messing with this stuff. Not sure if any of that is helpful or I'm just rambling 😀

      I really enjoy your videos. It is impressive how creative one can. be if one is determined! I guess I'm haven't reached that level of determination. I do stuff at home that certainly takes me out of my comfort zone. Just a couple of months ago I had to change out a fog light assembly on my car. It was complex because it was light is behind a wheel well, and you can't get to it unless you have a car lift or jack the car up and remove the wheel. I have some background from back in the day of being a vehicle mechanic in the US Army... So after watching a few UA-cam videos, I took the leap of faith, bought a hydraulic jack, jack up the car up, block the wheels etc. And finally, was able to remove the wheel, get the wheel well out enough to where I can reach in and get the fog light assembly removed and a new one installed. But it's not a skill set that I do day in and day out, but when it's gotta get done.... So, when it comes to my ATG, I'd much rather it be ready to go when I want to use. As opposed to turning "Mod'ing" the ATG into a hobby. Don't get me wrong, I admire what you guys do. Just think until it gets a little bit more plug-and-play, I'll be sitting on the sidelines :)

    When you say youre not connecting the original ALP haptics at the end, do you mean one *must not* (due to impedance of whatever), or you simply didn't feel the need to?
    Got the haptics installed today (thank you for this super helpful video!!!), and I wouldn't mind keeping the ALP haptics to add a little further to the experience, since I got those nicely under control via the old sticky tape method.
    But of course I don't want to short circuit my machine due to some inoendance mismatch or else, so I thought I'd ask first.
    Also... Anyone got a good tip for an idiot like me how to reconnect a speaker cable that slid out a solenoid that's already glued to the side of the cabinet? 😅 For the life of me, I can't reach it, but removing the solenoid to reconnect would probably mess up the double sided sticky tape, no?

    I'm definitely picking this upgrade up. I previously replaced the stock exciters with two small dayton exciters, which did help a lot, but I have been looking for something with more oomf and in an easy to install package.
    One question though. You mentioned you had to disable the built-in accelerometer. Can it be moved and mounted to another spot in the cabinet to avoid the tilt issue? Maybe hanging in the middle with some foam backing to dampen the bass? I only ask since I had to disable the tilt buttons on the side since my young kids accidentally press them and tilt the table while they play even when being aware of hand placement. Heck, even our adult friends have this issue too. Thanks for another great video!

      BSA is going to do more investigation into the accelerometer and let me know. Once they do, I'll try it, update the guide and there may be a follow-up video if significant. One thing that others have mentioned was to place the two front dayton exciters on the bottom-side of the cabinet. I've not personally tried that yet. Check the change log periodically on the guide page for any updates.

    Wagner's TechTalk,
    I always really appreciate your videos showing solutions to home arcade products such as the AtGames Legends Pinball. It's crazy to think that AtGames still hasn't fixed the sound issues with their Legends Pinball, especially the haptics, which are currently unplugged on my machine. It sounds like this kit may fix that. However, this particular kit is unfortunately way to complicated for me, but I do appreciate you showing it off. Although I don't enjoy modding myself, I do like watching modders make these products better and also love companies selling these solutions. For me, I'd need to have something so simple, like a self contained box with everything already installed within it, with one connection port to connect the exciter wire from the control deck into. I know the chances of that are next to nil, but yeah, not my wheelhouse.
    Thanks for all that you do!

      My honest answer, because that is how it was recommended to me by BuyStuff Arcades (they tested far more mounting options than I did). My theory is that you'll get much better sound having it mounted externally, inside you'll likely just get a lot of muffled vibration rather than clear audio. I've not tried it internally and happy with the sound mounted below. But, if you try it, I'd very much like to hear your experience! Thank you for your kind comment regarding the tutorial!

      "It’s actually the bass shaker that is more prone to setting the accelerometer off than the exciters. The exciters use the entire side panel for resonance, so we don’t recommend moving them as it will conflict with the bass shaker frequencies.
      We think the best probable solution is relocating the accelerometer further back in the cabinet and some people are going to be testing that. We haven’t tested it yet ourselves though".
