    I just wanted to say thank you for putting this fantastic work together. After watching this I purchased a ALP pinball with vibs board and the haptics kit from Buy Stuff Arcade and this is really awesome to have in my basement. We have come a long way since playing these games in arcades and bowling alleys back in the day. How cool to have something like this in the basement and for a really good price in my opinion. Your videos are thoughtful and easy to follow I Love the virtual table with all the different games. Thanks again!

    Man... i really wish they had USB access in back of the machine or underneath it because those wires look like ASS!!!!! lol. Other than that i'm looking forward to getting one of these, and setting it up with a PC eventually, likely going to swap out that horrid backbox for the $500+ version offered on buystuff.
    I nearly bought a really expensive custom machine but i hear it's best to mod these yourself and learn the ins and outs of the software so they're easier to troubleshoot when things go wrong. PLUS if i can't manage to get things running well enough, i'll always have the default tables and optional Zaccaria/Taito ones to fall back on.

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  2 роки тому

      It would be ideal to have the USB+HDMI at the back. At one point I was thinking of designing a 3D printed cover (to hide the wires), but when I asked for feedback few seemed interested in it. I may do it anyway, at some point. Not sure if you've seen this guide, but you may find it helpful: wagnerstechtalk.com/alp-mod1

    Great detail on the setup from a completely new Pc. Only thing I did differently was being this machine was dedicated to my ALP, I set my monitor 1 to portrait. Having to navigate pc / steam sideways until I get into fx3 or steam zaccaria just didn’t seem worth it. Luckily it works flawlessly.

      yeah i followed your setup and it is a pain having to sit beside the alp and navigate landscape. ive got the hang of using the trackball and can get around the desktop for minor windows tweaks before i launch the game. i use teamviewer as per your recommendations when i have to do some more major files tranfers etc. wouldnt it make more sense to setup alp playfield to portrait and then tweak settings in fx3 to show playfield portrait? would be easier to navigate in windows prior to launch. will this work or screw things up?

    I have a Radeon RX570 video card. I followed everything most everything in your video, but cant get the backglass to display at the same time as the table. The only thing I have setup different is both HDMI connections directly from the video card. I have the table directly input into the video card, and the other VIBS into a HDMI/DVI converter. I can get the backglass to display if i switch the connections on video card. Do I need the station setup like you have?

      Some AMD cards may have difficulty as discussed here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alppcsetup/#PC_Requirements . You may want to adjust the AMD Software settings to see if you can get it to work. In my early testing, I started with an AMD GPU but wound up switching to NVIDIA for similar reasons.

    I built a pin cab a few years ago and run about 200 tables on it including FX3. This cab however is a game changer and makes the world of pinball more readily available to people.
    I might just sell my old Cab and purchase one of these. Your content is really well appreciated and has given me the urge to start playing pinball again.

Just as an fyi - if you decide you want to pick one up, there is a good sale starting 6/16. BitPixel HV, VIBS Board, Arcade Control Panel, etc. are some items that you may want if you decide to pick one up. More details here: wagnerstechtalk.com/al-news . There will likely be another sale in ~3 mo., so no rush if you miss this one. No idea what will be in the next sale.

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  Рік тому

      Thank you Joel! I think what's happened here is that Windows got confused with the monitor/HDMI arrangement. Try plugging the HDMI connections in the same way you had it working before. Then restart the PC and see if Windows restores everything back. If not, the black screen you're seeing is the backglass display. See the 2nd point here to make sure your displays are arranged properly: wagnerstechtalk.com/alpfx3/#Software_Considerations . The first point here has a .jpg file that I created as a default backglass image until a game is selected: wagnerstechtalk.com/alpfx3/#FX3_Troubleshooting

Will they only show up when connected to the ALP, or should I see them on my PC when it's not connected to ALP? Should I remove JoyToKey Config 1 and replace with LegendsPB-WTT. Cause they don't do anything in fx3 right now anyway, and i dont think i can launch my wizard power either on fx3 with this setup the way the file comes, please help me out if you can, really just want to be able to map my wizard power button and especially the launch the ball button to my control panel so I don't have to use my keyboard at all anymore while playing fx3

    My usb 3 port on alp has not worked since day one. And still doesn't work even after a replacement of both boards and the cable. Support and myself are both confounded by this. Nothing in usb 3 detects. The hmdi input and usb2 ports do work.
    Because of this. My alp tables are saved on usb flash drive plugged into usb 2.
    To avoid a bunch of back and forth. I thought a powered hub plugged into my usb 2 would be the answer.
    While the flash drive loads, steam does not detect my alp controls when the OTG cable is plugged into one of the hubs 4 ports. I have to have OTG direct connect to pc and ALP, making my usb hub useless. Any advice?
    Is your hub connected to your ALP with your OTG cable to pc in one of the ports? Or is the hub connected to your pc with the OTG to ALP in one of the ports?

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  2 роки тому

      The powered USB hub is connected to the PC, in my case. I would try plugging the USB drive and OTG cable into this hub: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L32B9C2 and the OTG cable from this hub to the powered USB Hub on the PC and see if that works. Just a thought, I've not had this issue so can't be 100% sure if it will help.

    So Mr. Wagner what do you think of Zen Studios new upgrade to all their pinball tables & the fact that people have to re-buy all their tables for the new generation..& what’s your take on the ticket system they’re trying to implement..?..thank you‼️ HollerBack Wagner

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  2 роки тому

      First off, I'll be honest, I've not tried their new system/games yet (I did buy Indiana Jones for FX3 though and it's a cool table - but overpriced). I know it's been almost a month since it's release, though without the cabinet mode feature being available (at last I heard, should be available at any time) I'll wait until it is. Their ticketing system sounds like a pain and I'm not jumping at buying the same tables I already own just because a different publisher has released them. I'm sure the rendering engine will make a difference and that I'll be digging into it at some point.

    • @WagnersTechTalk

      If you want anything to show up on the backglass while connected to a PC, you'll need the VIBS board and a 2nd HDMI port. This guide goes into much more detail: wagnerstechtalk.com/alp-mod1 . Yes, you will need a USB cable (A-to-A) between the PC and the ALP, it's what allows the flippers, nudge and ball launch buttons to work.

      The blank/black screen on the backglass simply means the artwork is missing for the selected table. Look closely and you'll see a path with a file name mentioned. You can locate the artwork for the table, rename it exactly as what's shown and place it in that folder and the artwork will show up for it.

      If you're using a PC playing FX3 and need internet, the PC itself will need to be connected either via Ethernet or WiFi. When in OTG mode, the network is supplied by the PC and not the ALP. However, once out of OTG (playing stock tables), just plugging an Ethernet cable into the back of the ALP is all you need to do on the ALP itself. Make sure you see the link light and some blinking activity lights. If you don't, could be the cable or connection to the switch/router. Hope that helps!

    Thank you so much for making this. I am a little confused, how did you set up the second HDMI connection into the VIBS exactly? I rewinded the vide 20 times and I still can't understand. Did you somehow do USB from your computer to HDMI or did you split the HDMI. I am so excited to set this up but also so so very confused

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  3 роки тому +1

      Hi MichaelB, for the second HDMI connection to the VIBS board I could have used a DV to HDMI adapter on the PC. But, I was previously testing another PC (which didn't work out) and on that PC I had used a USB 3.0 to dual-HDMI adapter. My thought is to use the 2nd HDMI port at a later time for a dedicated DMD. The HDMI Adapter worked great on both machines (the one I returned and the new one I setup recently). So, I stuck with that. All the non-AtGames hardware (and software) can be found on this page: wagnerstechtalk.com/alppcsetup/#Additional_Hardware . It should help quite a bit, especially the JoyToKey tutorial which basically you download the LegendsPB-wtt archive and everything will be pretty much ready to go. I did make a minor change to that file to allow using the A/B button on your Arcade Control Panel for a Lef/Right mouse click. Hope all this helps!

      See 09:19, you want your playfield display to be on the far left and the backglass display immediately to the right of it. The numbers aren't what's important, it's the arrangement of the displays is important. You can click the identify button to see which display is which. Your laptop display will be on the very far right of the other two. Also, make sure the backglass HDMI is connected to the VIBS HDMI input and that you've flipped the VIBS switch button.

    hi, at around @9:39 in the video you are showing how your main screen (the playfield) is set to landscape. I currently have my backglass screen (on the computer settings) set to portrait mode. And I can see everything on my computer (on the pinball arcade screen just fine with screen #1 being set to portrait). And I even have Pinball Arcade up and running using the joytokey, with this configuration (my #1 screen set to portrait, and my #2 set to landscape -like yours). So I am not sure why I would need or want to have my #1 screen on the PC, set to landscape....when it seems all pinball machine games will need the primary PC screen #1 to be in portrait mode. I hope that makes sense...
    Also if I left the screen #1 in landscape mode then it would look sideways when viewing it on the Arcade Legends pinball backglass (hence why my screen #1 is set to portrait mode currently).
    I have a feeling if I dont have the same settings as you showed in your video for the PC screen configuration, then when you explain all the cabinet mode settings in the Pinball FX 3, those settings would not work for me....since my screen #1 is already in portrait mode....So I was just wondering why you would not have have your screen#1 in the PC settings to be in portrait mode???
    thanks

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  Рік тому

      That's correct, in the guide you'll find landscape is how it's documented. Like you, I started with Portrait as it seemed to make the most sense. However, as I began setting up PinUP Popper it was clear the landscape would provide the ability to see the entire screen (in portrait, while trying to configure anything things won't fit properly). It became very problematic to launch VPX and not be able to see the entire screen or get much done in Windows. I also find it easier to use TeamViewer to remotely connect to the PC used by the ALP to configure it and it's easier to do in landscape orientations. I also found the community recommended using Landscape for similar reasons. So, went that way and simply rotate the display in software when the tables are launched. This has worked out well and the numbers I show in the guide should match fine if done that way. But, they won't if you stick with portrait. You'll have to do a bit of tweaking for the backglass/DMD positioning.

    • @scottsmindchill
      @scottsmindchill Рік тому +1

      @@WagnersTechTalk OK, I think I see what you are getting at. I would rather follow your directions, since it would save time in trying to figure out all the dimensions etc as you explained in your video. I could also use VNC or teamviewer etc, to remotely connect to my machine just like you mentioned, and operate it in landscape mode (without worrying about how it looked on the atgame pinball screen (if that happened to be turned on when I was messing with Steam and like Pinball FX 3, etc)
      And then, as you clarified in yuor comment above, I just use the settings within the software (Pinball FX3) to change Display settings. That makes sense.
      The only other thing about using Vertical mode on my Windows machine is that I want to play stuff like Worms Pinball and maybe some older games too (that may not have fancy Display settings like PFX3 has). So maybe in those cases, I can just rotate the settings of my primary monitor (and therefore the backglass) to play a game like Worms. Only time will tell, once I experiment some more with some of the more esoteric games like Worms and even some possible Gog.com pinball games like Epic pinball

Many others have stated they had issues with an AMD GPU + VIBS. Wrote up a troubleshooting guide here to assist: wagnerstechtalk.com/alp/#VIBS_Troubleshooting . Thank you Douglas, happy you've got everything working! The very last bullet point here is if there is no sound: wagnerstechtalk.com/alp/#VIBS_Troubleshooting which doesn't seem to be exactly the issue you're having. But, it reads: No sound when using FX3/VPX or Future Pinball (OTG) - click the speaker icon in the lower-right of the taskbar in Windows. Make sure it’s set to output audio to the primary HDMI output (your backglass). Once set properly, the audio should play through just fine. I'd double check the playfield HDMI connection is the primary HDMI, then adjust the volume control in Windows and see if that helps. If not, honestly not sure what may be the cause. If it sounds fine on the ALP itself but weak audio only when the PC is connected, it's something on the PC/Windows side that I've not seen. May just take some additional tinkering/searching to find a solution. Sorry I may not be very helpful in this reply. You can also ask your question on the Legends Ultimate subreddit here: www.reddit.com/r/LegendsUltimate , good chance someone there has had the same issue and can be more helpful.

      I don't have a 3 screen setup, so can't tell you exactly. But basically, the 3rd screen would be on the very far right and you'd need to change the dot matrix positioning values according to your display resolution, etc.

    @WagnersTechTalk I'm so thankful for your video. I've ran into quite a problem with the display, however. When I hook everything up, the backglass display shows the main screen and the main display shows what should be on the backglass. My laptop only has two USB ports and one HDMI. So I bought an HDMI to USB adapter and used both USB ports and the one HDMI port. Did I do that incorrectly? Why are the videos on the backglass and main displays switched? Thanks for any help you can provide!

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  Рік тому

      Hi Joel, I think the problem in this case is that the arrangement of the displays is wrong in Windows. Click the Identify button, there you'll likely see the backglass as 1, Playfield as 2. Instead, this move the displays around such that the playfield is on the far left, then the backglass, any other display to the far right. More on the settings for each on the 2nd point here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alpfx3/#Software_Considerations Make sure they are fully aligned at the tops of each displays (don't want them crooked in anyway or it will throw things off - straight line at the top of each display).

I bought a USB to HDMI adapter to connect the VIBS board to the laptop and when I added the VIBS connection to the second USB port that's when it showed 3 screens. You could use the HDMI out from the laptop as the playfield display, then one of the other HDMI ports for VIBS. Anything connected to an HDMI port is going to show up under Windows. I hope this answers your question. From the adapter standpoint, only one of those should be needed/connected.

      A splitter will take the same video signal to two different monitors, not what you want. One HDMI output should be the playfield, the other to VIBS (backglass). If you have DVI output, you would need an adapter from DVI to HDMI. However, I tried DVI to HDMI for VIBS and didn't have any luck. In my case, for the VIBS monitor I went with the HDMI Adapter here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alppcsetup/#Additional_Hardware I would try it with the two HDMI Output ports (assuming both are HDMI) that you may have first, if that doesn't work at least you have another option with the HDMI Adapter.

While Pinball Emporium may be easy to install, using Popper may be the best long-term solution. It's more work, but you can add any tables you want. Sorry Mate I have a new one for you. Been running a setup mentioned previously with my laptop which on OTG mode where the laptop is the backglass and DMD. The laptop is strong Dell G7 with powerful i7 and GTX 2070. Obv the ALP is new and on the latest firmware. BUT I have some kind of unplayable flipper lag on FX3. I have turned off ball trails and gone to like 2x AA etc etc. But yah its very noticeable and not good. Using a USB 3.0 cable from laptop to ALP and its about 6 feet. This is very disheartening. Any thoughts?

      @@thesmoness You can try mapping the buttons directly within FX3. While my PC and Steam Deck are fine with j2k, others recommend mapping using FX3. A few other points here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alppcsetup/#OTG_Troubleshooting

      @@WagnersTechTalk been doing some slow motion camera testing. Not super accurate being my iphone on slow mo and my eyeball. But it seems native tables are ~50ms lag, my using my keyboard with no j2k running is about 100ms, and full j2k with 16x cpu time checked is ~150ms. What is realistic? is yours running same as native or is that 100ms the target? Gonna try and figure out how to just bind in FX3 see if that gives me same 100ms performance as keyboard

    when i set up the vibs board my pc shows 3 monitors not 2. Any tips on that?

      I assume you'll be using only 2 correct? If so, connect the playfield to the main HDMI port (up to you to determine). Then connect the secondary HDMI to the VIBS board. Arrange the playfield display to the far-left in Windows, VIBS to the right of that as shown in the guide. The 3rd monitor would be all the way to the far-right. Make sure each display is set at 100% (windows may try to change it to 150%, this won't work), 1920x1080, etc. per the guide. When you press the channel button, select OTG and 90 degrees. Should see the two displays on the ALP at this point. If you plan on using a 3rd, I'm not much help I only use two at the present time. Hopefully the above will get you going.

      @@WagnersTechTalk thanks. I guess the third screen is because I am using a laptop. Thank you for the response.

      Yes, 3rd screen would be your laptop display. Just move it to the far-right.
