I'm a sweet tea addict! LOL! I've not heard of the baking soda trick... definitively going to try that trick today! And, Wal-Mart STILL carriers that mason jar dispenser! I purchased mine about 3 weeks ago for $12! Thanks for sharing, pretty lady! Have a great day! Hugs!
Just got done making my first gallon of sweet tea using your recipe...my 17 y/o said it's "the best sweet tea ever"!!!! As a dad of 5 who loves sweet tea, we'll be making this one several times a week!!! Thanks!!
I’m from South Texas, but have lived in Louisiana, & North Carolina too. I make my sweet tea the same, 4 family sized tea bags & 2 cups of sugar. Never heard of the baking soda trick. Gonna have to try it!
I bring 2 family size tea bags to a boil then turn down and let simmer for 2-3 mins. I pour and mix together in a gallon pitcher over 1 1/2 cups sugar, then continue to add water over the tea bags in the boiler and pour into my pitcher until full. No bitter taste at all. The more tea bags you use, and the longer you boil it or let it steep, the more stronger/bitter it will taste.
Love it! Love your utensils jar! I will try with the Stevia! I have heard not to steep tea over 7 minutes because it becomes bitter after that (Barista knowledge/tip). This is why the baking soda is probably balancing out the bitterness afterwards.
I make my sweet tea exactly like you do except I add the baking soda slowly when the tea comes to a boil. The soda really takes the bitterness out. We love sweet tea!!! :) ~Dana~
I was shocked to see sweet tea recipes are a thing on UA-cam. BUT then I remembered that I am Southern and there are other people out there who are not. Bless their hearts Lol Also, thank you for telling people about the baking soda! You'd be surprised how many recipes on UA-cam that don't include that!
I live in ky and never heard about the baking soda thing. I've never been the best at making sweet tea I always don't put enough sugar or to much or something. I just tried making it this way and it is AWSOME!! I'm going have to have my friend try this. She loves sweet tea but is VERY picky about how it tastes. I really think she will like this.
The soda also helps to keep your sweet tea from turning cloudy once it's cooled and has been sitting overnight. Growing up, my family always had to make "double-strength" tea, and, when we needed a gallon, we put half the DS tea in with half water. Also, we used to used the "loose tea leaves" (forget how much) and had to strain it using a sieve. We also ran cool water over those leaves, gettin' more of the tea flavor - we let the tea "steep" at least 10 minutes, then made the DS tea. Our tea recipe made two gallons of DS, and, we used either 4 family sized or 16 regular sized bags (when loose tea was no longer available) to 4 cups sugar for two DS gallons of tea - with a family of six people, the tea didn't last long in our house - LOL! ... Plus, don't forget how sweet tea (and unsweet) is always best when it has set overnight at least one night before drinking it. (TIP:. If you only get or have instant tea, boil the tea and water together before sweetening it to help make it taste less instant! And, the soda is a must with instant to keep it from turning cloudy! 😉) Thank you for sharing your recipe cause I'd not made sweet tea in such a long time that I forgot the ratio of tea to sugar. Your recipe reminded me of how much we always used - exactly (I think - 😁.) Thanks bunches - pun intended, LOL!!!
I saved this video a while back.... just got around to finally making this sweet tea! Just wanted to let you know that it’s delicious!! We will be making this all the time now! Your recipe and video will save us tons of money as my hubby loves his iced tea! Thanks soooo much!! 💕💕
I've lived in the South my entire life and have been making sweet tea almost my entire life. I've never heard of adding baking soda, but I'm going to try it. What you said makes sense. I'll let you know how it turns out.
@@CookCleanAndRepeat I asked my husband had he ever heard of such. He said his Grandma used to make it like that. I'm making it tomorrow. Btw we're from central Alabama.
I will definitely try the baking soda trick whenever I try to make it I end up adding so much sugar to take away the bitterness but it gets too sweet and still has the bitterness
I've never heard of the baking soda. I grew up drinking sweet tea and always made it just like this except for the baking soda. I'll have to see if I notice a difference with it added. Thanks for sharing!
Funny you mention that, because I totally forgot to mention this in the video. So I grew up drinking Lipton decaf! Decaf was always what I drank and even made until recently.
Ok girl you got me on the baking soda 🥤! I’m From and live in Tennessee but I have never heard of soda in your sweet tea before! Definitely going to try this! We always have lemons 🍋 with our tea also. It’s the best! Thanks for sharing this tip! I’ll let you know! Have a blessed day!
The bitter brewed taste is why I don't like tea and Im a southern gal. Will try the baking soda trick. Had never heard that before. I don't drink coffee for the same reason...too bitter.
Never added soda. Tried some before and hated the soda. 8 bags bring to boil seep for a while. Add two cups sugar. Fresh lime to garnish or lemon. I have added a few drops of orange flavor .
Must be Northerners asking how it's made 😆 I think I have known this my whole life since I grew up in MS ha. Never heard of putting baking soda in it, though. Will have to give it a try.
Two cups of sugar!!! My teeth hurt just thinking about that! I add just two tablespoons per liter, which would be about a quarter cup per gallon. But, to each their own. Don’t change on my account. Thanks for the video.
Hello I would like to say my grandmother always used the Baki g soda in her tea and nobody ever knew that in southern Arkansas and she would never use a metal spoon to stir her tea with because it puts off metallic taste to the tea and make it turn cloudy. So yes keep putting the soda in it
My friend in Oklahoma puts a pinch of salt in hers, similar to the baking soda? Regardless this gal from California absolutely loves Sweet Tea! ❤️❤️ how many jugs do you go through in a day? I’m imagining this is enough for me with a big straw 😂
Looks very refreshing and satisfying 😋 Baking soda?😕 Interesting. That blouse is very pretty on you 😊 I will be making this recipe too. Thanks so much 👍👍👍
Yes ma’am that pinch of baking soda makes a difference! My granny taught me that trick too!
Takes the bitterness away.

I am from south GA. I have made sweet tea my whole life and never even heard of the baking soda trick. I am going to try it! :)
My granny does it… i love her sweet tea but I never use it lol

Yes!! When I saw this thumbnail I thought, "Lemme see if this girl knows about the baking soda". It cuts the bitterness & makes the tea so smooth.
Yessss!! Gotta know the baking soda secret!
You make tea like my granny used to. I can’t do that much sugar anymore, but my husband loves it! Thanks for sharing!!
Wow, that southern accent ❤️

I’ve never heard of the baking soda!! I need to give this a try 😋
Staple on our farm!! We also drink it in Mason jars!!! I make tea everyday!
My mom taught me to add baking soda as well. I think it also helps the tea have a darker, richer color.

This turned out so good, Thanks for taking the time in showing us how :)

Must be Northerners asking how it's made 😆 I think I have known this my whole life since I grew up in MS ha. Never heard of putting baking soda in it, though. Will have to give it a try.
I'm from Central Illinois and have drank and made sweet tea my whole life. Almost everyone i know drinks sweet tea, its not just a southern drink.
Or people who aren’t American 🤷🏼♂️
Two cups of sugar!!! My teeth hurt just thinking about that! I add just two tablespoons per liter, which would be about a quarter cup per gallon. But, to each their own. Don’t change on my account. Thanks for the video.
2 cups is normal in the south.
Two is a lot and I’m from the south (MS). I can only tolerate 3/4 cups per gallon.
Make sweet tea all the time (Ga girl here) but I’m definitely gonna try the stevia/sugar mix! 👍🏼
Hello I would like to say my grandmother always used the Baki g soda in her tea and nobody ever knew that in southern Arkansas and she would never use a metal spoon to stir her tea with because it puts off metallic taste to the tea and make it turn cloudy. So yes keep putting the soda in it

Yes girl love me some sweet tea! #Southernraised
Love me some tea!!♡
What is the purpose of the baking soda?
If I use Decaf tea do I still need the baking soda?

I am from texas but don't drink tea... this will perfect for parties and family gathering... no more jugs from the store😘
I love suntea 💖
I only have the small Lipton packets. How many should I use?
Dallas Laton we used 6 and made ours in the insta pot. It turned out just like back home. Lipton brand as well.
Looks good going try this! ☕️Tfs
Thank u its the best
I subscribed to ur channel
can i add baking powder instead?
Nope. Doesn't do the same.
Looks very refreshing and satisfying 😋 Baking soda?😕 Interesting. That blouse is very pretty on you 😊 I will be making this recipe too. Thanks so much 👍👍👍
How can I make my own sweet tea at home in person
So if I want to make half gallon, what do you think. . Two family size tea bags and 1 cup sugar ?
Yes! That will be great!
Lime in my sweet tea and a little stronger tea.
You are so gorgeous. Thank you for the great video.
Do I still use 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda if I make unsweetened tea or do I use less
You still use the baking soda, it is there to cut out any bitterness from the tea, not the sugar.
I don’t even like tea and u have me wanting to make this 😂
Did she give a measurement for the amount of water she used?
Yes
