I've been coming back to this video for years now. Every time I lose the recipe or need a reminder I just get back on here and watch the video. Comes out perfect just like she says! I'm from Texas and I honestly can say this is the best tea, not too sweet but just sweet enough!

I have made so many sweet tea recipes and have been disappointed. This recipient is the BEST! No too sweet and not bitter, you can really taste the tea! Thank you!

@@kingloz36 Yeah, at Coles or Woolies. It's Liptons 'Iced Tea', in big bottles in the bottled drinks aisle. Usually lemon or peach flavoured. IMO it's a bit too flavoured. Haven't seen 'plain' though.
@@SinceYallAsked Yeah and it’s all flavoured too. I wanted to try some but not with peach or raspberry so I came here instead. I’m currently in the 30min - 3 hours section so fingers crossed. Storage will be my problem. I didn’t realise I’d need to store 12 cups of tea.

I want to thank you for this video. I have been searching for the perfect sweet tea recipe, and you've shown me the secret. Sought out an expert home cook for the best Southern (Sweet) Iced Tea recipe. And there you were! I figured that any one this passionate about Southern Iced Tea had to know what she was talking about.
Just made with decaf Luzianne tonight---my very first attempt at homemade---and I was very grateful for your little details that made a difference in the end result. I see double batching in my future. Thank you for your video and your Southern hospitality. :-)

This reminds me so much of my grandma, she lived in New Braunfels but was from Mobile Alabama, and we used to ask her all the time for tea. We got her recipe but it never comes out the same. Thanks for such a nice video, I do like your recipe, I made some this morning.

I'm glad I found a good recipe, because there truly isn't any store bought sweet tea as good as homemade!
This is exactly how I make my iced tea. It is the best made this way! I also use decaf because I drink it all day/night too. So refreshing, and all my friends and family love coming over to have a glass. I highly recommend this recipe. Also, for those who are Diabetic or such, you can use Splenda instead of real sugar and it tastes the same.
Just found your video, made this recipe on the hottest day this Summer here in Nova Scotia, Canada. Everyone loved it, especially the children. Thank you for the recipe, God bless you 🙏.

I was an an OCD mood, & wondered how much a batch of your tea costs. Luzianne: Iced Specially Blended Decaffeinated Tea, 514 Oz $3.54+tax=$3.81 24 Bags / 3 per batch = 8 batches. $3.81 / 8 = $0.47625 per batch. C&H: Pure Cane Granulated White Sugar, 5 Lb $3.58+tax=$3.85 According to the Joy of Baking website... 1 pound = 2 1/4 cups, so 5 pounds = 11 1/4 cups $3.85 / 11.25 = $0.3422222222222222 per batch. Water 100 (cubic feet) = 748.051948 US gallons $1.4921 per CCF Tier 1 (Cost of CCF) / (Amount of Gallons in a CCF) = (Cost of a gallon of water) $1.4921 / 748.051948 = $0.001994647569583 12 Cups = 0.75 gallons (Cost of a gallon of water - 25% = (Cost of 12 cups of water) $0.0014959856771872 SO!! (Cost of Tea)+(Cost of Sugar)+(Cost of Water)=Cost of a pot of Sweet Tea. $0.47625 + $0.3422222222222222 + $0.0014959856771872 = $0.8199682078994094 Now divide that by 12 (Cups of water) = 0.0683306839916174 $.82 cents for a batch of Sweet Tea $.07 cents a cup! WOW! That kicks Coke & Pepsi's butt.. Check my math... Now should we go one and determine the cost of heating the water?? Me neither..
Every family sized lipton teabag is equal to 3 regular sized tea bags and for every family sized Luziannes family sized tea bag is equal to 4 regular sized tea bags
I've made tea like this for years, and kept my boyfriend happy for three years now!! no more store bought gallon tea!! (: you by far have the best recipe!!!
Now this is true southern sweet tea! I love this lady!! I dont use the lemon but lots of people do. My family came from Kentucky and raised me in Indiana. I now live in Florida since they have passed away and I'm very grateful to have been taught by them to make the best sweet tea in the world. Thank you for sharing this video!
Thank you for posting. My sister went on a business trip down south swears south style iced tea is the best! I'll be sure to make some following your direction and surprise her =)
I found this video 10 years ago and I made this sweet tea for a family gathering. Till this day, I'm in charge of making the sweet tea for every family gathering. Heating up the sugar with the water makes a huge difference
Crazy thing is that I always wanted to learn how to make sweet tea since I love it. Yesterday I made this tea, but use 2 1/2 cups of sugar. It was DELICIOUS! It has to be the best sweet tea I've ever tasted. I'm making more this week to bring to my fam's house. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much for the post!!! You are spot on! I do have a famous lemonade recipe!! I plan to do another video, just do not know when! I have three in college and no youtube skills without them here!!! Ha!
My mom would use two family size Lipton tea bags for a gallon. She would double boil the tea bags a quart at a time then boil another two quarts to dissolve a cup of sugar. She would also squeeze the teabags as well. She would boil the water in a one quart pan until she got a microwave and started using a one quart Pyrex measuring cup instead. It tastes the same either way. My way is almost the same except I double boil the teabags in a two quart Pyrex measuring cup. I like mine a bit stronger and sweeter so I use six of the family size bags or two of the large gallon size bags. I add two cups of sugar after the first boil and stir until it’s dissolved. After the second boil I have a gallon and I don’t squeeze the teabags because that gives your tea a bitter taste and it only gives you about a tablespoon of tea. I then add a pinch of baking soda and mix thoroughly by pouring from one Rubbermaid one gallon pitcher to another ten times. Then set it on the counter on a wire baking rack to cool before putting in refrigerator. I also wait about fifteen minutes before adding water to the second boil because I don’t want to risk shattering my Pyrex measuring cup. Even though it’s rated for high heat, they will still shatter after quickly going from one extreme to another as my mother found out years ago when her two quart Pyrex measuring cup shattered on her when she was making tea. I add a pinch of baking soda to a pot of coffee also and it tastes a lot better without the bitterness plus you can’t taste the baking soda at all.
Spot on. My iced tea always used to turn out cloudy when chilled, no matter what I did. Now the mystery has cleared (ahem), with the strict under 5 mins steeping. I just made a batch. Night and day. I've just downed two huge gem-like glasses. The gorgeous after aroma is still filling my nostrils. So. Happy.
I tried substituting 9 regular tea bags for the 3 family sized tea bags. My tea came out tasting weak though. Then I decided to do some math: The regular sized tea bags are meant for 8 ounces of water. 8 ounces = 1 cup. This sweet tea recipie uses 12 cups of water total. So, I should have used at least 12 regular sized tea bags. But wait, there's more. I looked up the Lipton family size tea bags and according to Lipton, a single family size bag is enough to make 1 gallon of tea (128 oz of water). This sweet tea recipie uses 96 oz of water. She seems to be using enough tea bags to make 384 oz of tea. There are 2 possibilities: 1. At the time of this video, Lipton's family sized tea bags were set up for 32 oz of water and she is using the exact right amount of tea for 96 oz of water. In that case, I should use 12 regular size tea bags. 2. She's purposefully making the tea extra strong. In that case, I should use 48 regular tea bags. I'm going to start with 12 regular size tea bags and see if that tastes right. I can always work up slowly from there.
This is the best video for making sweet tea I have ever seen. I use this recipe and her instructions every time I make sweet tea. I also use Luzianne decaf only.❤️
Good lord in heaven what have I done??? I’ve made a monster out of myself thanks to this video!!!! Thank you so much this is exactly what I’ve needed !! Much love from Florida!
Hey, I remember that refrigerator. my aunt used to have one just same as yours, it always been shooting me a bunch of ice whenever I tried to get some! thank you by the way, it was so interesting video. BJ
Thank you so much for watching!!! AND Thanks for the encouragement! 1) I got those jars at a local thrift grocery store. They are the half gallon size and come 6 to a box. They would be in the canning section of your local grocery or Mart. The box of six sells somewhere between 9.00 to 12.00. Some stores would special order them if need be. 2) I plan on another video in the future, I haven't made more because at this time I have 2 in college and one in grad.school.
that was the best iced tea I ever tasted! I almost always drink hot tea, never really liking cold tea, but one day, just had a craving for cold tea. So, I watched your video. And I was totally amazed. Your recipe is definitely going into my repertoire. Thanks again!
@@SinceYallAsked Thank you so much. I went and got family sized tea bags. I LOVE sweet tea and I tried making some once but failed. It wasn't good sweet tea. Now your recipe, AMAZING 👏. Thank you ma'am.
I make this Iced Tea every BBQ and everyone LOVES it and we come back to the video EVERY time just because we love the southern sweet tea lady! " plastic is really bad " " a watched pot doesn't boil" ; )
i love sweet tea but i have never seemed to make it right. I am going to try to make your recipe. You make look and sound so easy even i could do it! Thank you
You said it!!!!!!!! LIQUID GOLD - SOUTHERN WINE - DEEP SOUTH ELIXIR. . . . .Your recipe is the best. I heard from others that you should put a pinch of baking soda into the concentration to help ensure the tea isn't "cloudy". I do it but I can never tell ??? Who knows. But your recipe is the BEST!
I have been making my tea exactly like you and my husband is in love with my tea! My brother brews his in the sun during the hot season like now. I also just love Louisiana or Tetley tea. Great job, great video.
Look how many people love you!!! I watched this again for this first time in a long time and it made my heart all fuzzy because I know how much this captures your essence! You really should make more and appease the masses!! Love you! Heather
Heather! Thanks! I plan to make more vids, but there are a lot of details that must be in place, such as exact measurements, exact baking times!!! I cannot post a fabulous recipe without the exact proportions. I make my food without a recipe. I have, many times, tried to exact the slaw and it is never up to par! I made my barbecue, cornbread, corn pudding, slaw and pound cake for the rehearsal dinner. Don't ask me how though! HA! That's one reason I LOVE the tea! It's precise! Maybe I could post my shortcake, hmmmmmmm. Food for thought!
A lot of other people don't use measurements either though (myself included)which is why video is so perfect because you can explain and show the reference points (enough to cover etc.). Maybe?
I made it as you did, it was wonderful. I will probably cut back the sugar some next time; 1 cup is a lot more than I usually use and we're watching our sugar consumption. 2/3 cups should be fine for us. I used Lipton (I usually use Luzianne) and it was very good. Thanks for your very homey and informative video. Liquid gold is right!
I watched your vid and commented a couple of months ago looking for a good iced tea recipe...As a 55 year old male with diabetes i was getting tired of water and diet drinks...I can't drink fruit juice so i tried your recipe but with very little sugar...i've been drinking this ever since every day...i make about 1 batch a week with little sugar and 4 tea bags..It works for me..it's very simple and fits in with my strict diet...Now l can't get enough of it...Thanks again..I use Red Rose..
Finally made real sweet tea. Thank you! My previous attempts could not compare. It's funny how a simple recipe could go wrong in so many ways. Thanks for this video! Best tea ever-
Thank you kindly ma'am, I've been looking for a real southern sweet tea recipe ever since a good southern gentleman friend of mine introduced me to it back in 2005, this looks to be right on the money :)
LOL!! You are too cute! My husband will be soo glad you taught me how to do this. I think he could live on iced tea. He gets McDonalds tea and they told him they use I think 1 lb of sugar per gallon! Thanks so much:)
i never thought about adding the sugar to the boiling water and also I never really ever got my tea mixture and water ratio right. This was very helpful and the tea turned out great. The amount of sugar was perfect.
Thanks so much for the encouragement!! I have heard of the soda trick, but have never had the need for it. If you are following this recipe you shouldn't need to worry about cloudiness!!! Thanks again!!!!
On my way to purchase tea. The "right" brand. It seems amazing the small amount of sugar you used but then, I've never boiled the water and sugar together. I LOVE LOVE LOVE iced tea but never measure anything and some is great some is okay and some gets dumped. I committed to finding exactly the taste I am looking for. See you back here as soon as I am finished. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks! I'm going to make this right now!! I usually make it like yours, except I put the sugar in the glass container with a little bit of cold water, then I pour the tea in the glass container and stir together. I leave it out for about 30 mins. before putting it in the fridge.
Lemonade will be: boiling 2 cups of water with a cup of sugar til dissolved pour into a good sized pitcher or jar. Add as much lemon as you like then add cold water. I use fresh squeezed lemon, about 6 and slice one lemon thinly to drop into the pitcher. You might want it sweeter, but this is the start. I also use the bottled lemon juice to make lemonade. There is a brand at Costco that is good, Italian Volcano 100% organic lemon juice. It comes in a package of two 1L bottles. Hope you like this! Thank you for the comment!
Greetings from NJ! Since watching your video for the first time upon my return from a trip to IL, I have made many batches by following this recipe to the "T". Recently, I ran out of Lipton tea bags. In desperation, I used Earl Grey tea following the same instructions. It is delicious. Following the same recipe, except I don't add lemon. Thank you so much for your help!
You are right about the tap water in some areas, thanks! The boiling should help the steeping water and then you could add the purified water to dilute instead of tap water. Thanks for the post!
Im Australian and Iced Tea is never made here so i decided i wanted to try it and came across you recipe! First time in my life ive ever had it and it is quite delicious! Thanks for your recipe :)
Thank you for sharing your tea recipe with us tea lovers. My tea turns out different every time...too weak...too strong...just off and then really good. I really need a recipe to follow ha ha. I think the tea that sets over night in the frig with the tea bags still in it is my favorite. When I rush the tea it is my worst.
I put 2 qts. of water on to boil. Once it has boiled, I put two family size bags in and let them steep for 5 minutes or whenever I remember it is on the stove, then I add that to 2 more quarts of water and 1 1/2 cups sugar. Delicious.
Hi! I'm from france and I really like tea, and more iced tea. I've tried recipes but it was too bitter, or too sweet. I found your video and tried. I'm really happy to found finally the perfect recipe. Thank you to share with us.
This is how my daddy does it! (: I'm 25 now makin my own! This is by far the best way to make tea besides outside in a big pickle jar lol "sun tea" thanks for the vid! From one southern belle to another (:
I found your video this weekend, and I was never so excited to make iced tea in my life! I followed your directions and this is the greatest tea ever! Amazon sells Luzianne by the case in the family sized bags for an awesome price! Thanks for posting this video - you are a natural!!
I love your kitchen and your sink! Reminded me of my grandmas kitchen! Thank you for sharing your recipe!! It is almost midnight here in Texas and I have a strong urge to get up and make this recipe!! lol!
I tried this recipe using Twinings Orange Pekoe, since we don't have Luzianne in Australia, and it still worked out excellent! Putting the sugar in before means that I don't have to heap it in later, and it turns out a lot more refreshing and not nearly as 'heavy'. Delicious!
Twinings is a super tea to use! (I don't promote Twinings in the video because it is pricey here, and doesn't come in family sized bags, but it is an excellent tea!) Thank you so much for the comment!
great presentation, surely will try... I made some yesterday without this recipe - it came out bitter... after watching this I see I left my tea too long... 5 min would have been enough... thank you so much...
My grandma has the same glass you are using in this video. This is an excellent glass for tea, gold, tall, thin, "bumpy". I doubled the recipe because we had guests over, and one asked how much is left and since I had more than a gallon, I gave 2 families a jar of the tea.
Liquid gold indeed! I’m so happy I stumbled upon your video, my favorite part is when you laugh at all the ice expended. I too drink it all day and am tired of the artificial flavors of the store bought kind. I will happily be making your version, as after preparing my first glass I have to state it was refreshingly light. A truly perfect recipe, big thanks for sharing.
I'm from Wisconsin and my mother's parents were from Arkansas. My grandma used to make sweet tea in a big aluminum pot with the small teabags. I remember how sweet and black it was and she'd pour it warm over ice cubes in our glasses. I grew up drinking sweet tea and my husband and daughter love it too. I always let my tea (regular) steep longer than five minutes though. I wonder if it really makes much difference. I just want it to be a strong as possible. Just made some today! Luzianne!
This tea helped me win over my boyfriends parents who are from Alabama! Thank you!!!
To win over inlaws is a tall order! Yay!! So glad to have been a part of that!! Thanks for watching!
How’s that going now
Dude I followed this exactly and it’s black like way black. I used regular Lipton iced tea. I’ll try some in the morning, but it’s way dark
did you dilute the tea after the bags were removed with the 6 cups of cold water??@@seamonsdoug5141

$1.4921 / 748.051948 = $0.001994647569583
12 Cups = 0.75 gallons
(Cost of a gallon of water - 25% = (Cost of 12 cups of water)
$0.0014959856771872
SO!!
(Cost of Tea)+(Cost of Sugar)+(Cost of Water)=Cost of a pot of Sweet Tea.
$0.47625 + $0.3422222222222222 + $0.0014959856771872 = $0.8199682078994094
Now divide that by 12 (Cups of water) = 0.0683306839916174
$.82 cents for a batch of Sweet Tea
$.07 cents a cup!
WOW! That kicks Coke & Pepsi's butt..
Check my math...
Now should we go one and determine the cost of heating the water??
Me neither..
Love all the math!!!! Thanks for this info!
Don't forget to add the Price of Labor.... :D Hahahaha
1stDivision add 60 dollars a gallon for labor
In scrolling through my comments my husband and I once again are so amused and delighted over this extensive math! Thank you for this !
Thank You so much !!!! Your comment made my day!!!
been coming back for this video for 7 years now
Thank you! What a nice comment!
Thank you for the sweet comment!! and you are welcome!!
Thank you for posting. My sister went on a business trip down south swears south style iced tea is the best! I'll be sure to make some following your direction and surprise her =)
I know she'll love it!!! Thanks for the post!!
I found this video 10 years ago and I made this sweet tea for a family gathering. Till this day, I'm in charge of making the sweet tea for every family gathering. Heating up the sugar with the water makes a huge difference
This is such an encouraging comment!! Thank you so much!!
Did you add 2 and one half cups of sugar or 2 half cups of sugar, equal to one cup? Thanks
Thank you so much for the post!!! You are spot on! I do have a famous lemonade recipe!! I plan to do another video, just do not know when! I have three in college and no youtube skills without them here!!! Ha!
I come back to this every spring for spring/summer season and WE LOVE IT❤️❤️❤️ MANY MANY Thanks!
Thank you for this sweet encouragement!
I love her laugh when she spills the ice! :)
Thank you for the sweet comment! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this comment!
11 yrs later you’d think i have this memorized by now lol
I love this comment! Thank you!
So. Happy.
What a nice post! Thank you!
Compared to family size tea bags how many regular teabags are in a family size?
+Sebastian Gutierrez A family sized teabag is equal to three regular teabags! Thanks for asking!
+SinceYallAsked thanks, I will definitely try this. Great video by the way
+Sebastian Gutierrez Thanks!!
I tried substituting 9 regular tea bags for the 3 family sized tea bags. My tea came out tasting weak though. Then I decided to do some math:
The regular sized tea bags are meant for 8 ounces of water.
There are 2 possibilities:
@@philm5380 I found that 10 teabags work's great //IF// I half the amount of plain water to keep it stronger
I found your recipe a couple years ago and have made this ever since. It is the best!
Great video thank you sooo much for sharing❣
you are welcome! thank you for this encouragement!
This is the best video for making sweet tea I have ever seen. I use this recipe and her instructions every time I make sweet tea. I also use Luzianne decaf only.❤️
Thank You so much for the nice comment!!
I remember when this video came out. Can u make more videos?
I am thinking of this!! Thank you so much for the encouragement!!!!
Good lord in heaven what have I done??? I’ve made a monster out of myself thanks to this video!!!! Thank you so much this is exactly what I’ve needed !! Much love from Florida!
THANKS!! Love your comment!
Hey, I remember that refrigerator. my aunt used to have one just same as yours,
it always been shooting me a bunch of ice whenever I tried to get some!
thank you by the way, it was so interesting video.

Thank you for posting this video. The sweet tea was wonderful!
So glad! Thank you for the comment!
Thank You!
What if you don't have family sized tea bags?
Three small tea bags are equal to 1 large tea bag! Thank you for the question!
@@SinceYallAsked Thank you so much. I went and got family sized tea bags. I LOVE sweet tea and I tried making some once but failed. It wasn't good sweet tea. Now your recipe, AMAZING 👏. Thank you ma'am.
@@MrSkynex721You are welcome! and Thank You so much for the nice comment!
I make this Iced Tea every BBQ and everyone LOVES it and we come back to the video EVERY time
just because we love the southern sweet tea lady! " plastic is really bad " " a watched pot doesn't boil" ; )
What a sweet comment!! I love that you enjoy this tea and come back to this video!! Thank you for so kind an encouragement!!
Youre awesome! Haha I love the humor haha
Thank you so much for the encouraging comment!!!
Your tea is amazing, thank you so much for that recipe. Finished one batch in a day and started making a second one right away. Greeting from Germany
You are welcome! So glad you like it! Greetings from SC
Anyone else watching in 2019???😂😂😂
Yes, and the recipe is still asked for!
2020 baby, covid cooking be like
i love sweet tea but i have never seemed to make it right.
Thank you for the encouragement! and for watching!
Maybe?
SteveHeather Routh Maybe!
thank you for the great recipe im saudi and i told my brother that i will make some for him I have seen a hundred recipe yours are the best in youtube
Awesome!! I love that you can enjoy this tea! I have made it with Red Rose as well and it turned out well! Thank you so much for the nice comment!
Excellent video. I love iced tea!
Thank you, I almost gave up on making ice tea from home . Taste so good and adding limon put the icing on the cake.
You are welcome!! I am so glad you found this recipe!! Thanks for watching!
I don't know if anyone else has said this, but I absolutely love your kitchen!!!! It reminds me of my Mammaw's!
LOL!! You are too cute! My husband will be soo glad you taught me how to do this. I think he could live on iced tea. He gets McDonalds tea and they told him they use I think 1 lb of sugar per gallon! Thanks so much:)
I'm so glad I found this video trying it tonight thanks a bunch an have great day
Yay! Thank you for the comment! I hope the tea turned out!!
i never thought about adding the sugar to the boiling water and also I never really ever got my tea mixture and water ratio right. This was very helpful and the tea turned out great. The amount of sugar was perfect.
Thanks so much for the encouragement!! I have heard of the soda trick, but have never had the need for it. If you are following this recipe you shouldn't need to worry about cloudiness!!! Thanks again!!!!
Man, Eleanor, was looking for a recipe... what a throwback. You are the OG sweat tea maker. I had completely forgotten about this little gem.
Thank You!!!....can you even believe I keep up with my comments???
@@SinceYallAsked I absolutely can :) this is a national treasure! Merry Christmas to your clan.

Howdy!! Since back home, still can't forget the taste of sweet tea I had in Memphis. I'll definitely try this recipe. Thanks for your video.
Thanks for watching! Have a good day!
Hey! Did you finish the tea? I would LOVE to know how it turned out! Thank you for the comment!
Thanks! I'm going to make this right now!! I usually make it like yours, except I put the sugar in the glass container with a little bit of cold water, then I pour the tea in the glass container and stir together. I leave it out for about 30 mins. before putting it in the fridge.
Thank you for making this amazing video! I would love a lemonade recipe!
@@SinceYallAskedThank you for the lemonade recipe! We will definitely be trying this!
I live in Copenhagen, Denmark and I have always wanted to try a real southeren sweet tea! Thank u so much!!
I'm a "southern Alberta girl" from Canada and I can barely wait to try this tea, thank you for sharing!!!
You're welcome!! You will enjoy this I'm sure!! Thanks for the comment!
Delicious.
Yum!!! Gonna try it! What a delightful, southern lady! Thanks for the video!
Thanks and you are welcome!!!
Thank you for the comment!! and for watching!
Thank you so much for making this video. Always wanted to learn how to make Iced Tea, especially Southern style.
Her tea recipe is the best I’ve ever made. I also use Luzianne decaf tea with 1 cup of sugar. Excellent!
Thank You so much!! What a nice comment!!
It is almost midnight here in Texas and I have a strong urge to get up and make this recipe!! lol!
Thank You for the sweet comment!! Thank you for watching!
I have made this tea recipe many times and I must say it's the best ever ! Thank you for the video :)
Thanks so much for the recipe. I made this and it's the best ice tea I've ever made, everyone loves it!
great presentation, surely will try...
Thank you for this comment!
I love me some sweet tea! This looks great. I have always added sugar after seeping, but I like this - I am making it for hubby tonight! Thanks
Thank you so much for this comment!
Luzianne!
im gonna seriously make this for my mum one day soon...she loves ice tea! Cheers from Australia :)
