Does this work on the dsc pk5508 LED keypad? I tried, maybe I am doing it wrong
Good question. Going through the manual of the PK5508 it doesn't have that option build in. So no you can't do it with that keypad.

Does this method also work for the DSC Impassa Keypad?
Hi. For the DSC Impassa Programming section [800] allows you to select from five different chime options per zone number. The options are 6 Beeps, Bing Bong, Ding Dong, Alarm, or Disabled. By default, for those zone attributes with chime enabled automatically, 6 Beeps is the sound that will be produced.
When the chime function is toggled to On, the system will produce three beeps to indicate the feature has been enabled. When the chime function is toggled to Off, the system will produce one long continuous tone indicating that the feature has been disabled.
how do you change the chime for each zone. example door zone 1 window 2 glass break 3 can i change the chime for each different zone?

Suppose I like the chime, but the situation is I want to throw out the garbage late at night, kids are sleeping. Is there a way to silently and temporary turn off the chime, I go do my thing, then turn it back on? The press chime for 2 sec operation is pretty loud by itself, so kind of defeats the purpose.
No, there's isn't. No matter what you do it will make a sound.

Hi. Press * and then the 6
- Enter the master Code
- Use the < Key to scroll through 21 volume levels
- When you have chosen the level that you want
- Press the # Key to save the volume level.
