For example the word hommie is to refer a friend, but you would not use it on a conversation with your boss or a business meeting. Same goes for the word "chingon". It's a complex expression. It can mean something good or something rally bad depending how you are using it or what derivate of the word you are using it. The root of the word comes from chingar, but depending on the context it can change. I can say "esto está chingon" meaning this is really good. Or I can say "esto está de la chingada" meaning, this is fucked up. This are two examples, but the way we use chingon is really more vast and always depends on the context.
I am from NM and they speak various degrees of Spanish from Mexican Spanish to Spanglish to Castellian (very rare) my family spoke both Castellian and Mexican. (Mom's side) I suppose it's a good thing that none of us knew Navajo or that would be really confusing lol (mom is Navajo and Spaniard)
When I lived in Spain, “no pasa nada” was always used to say “no problem” or “no worries.” I’m surprised that wasn’t mentioned but maybe the area I lived in used that more than others
both words are 100% valid in both countries, what happens is that people has poor vocabulary we mexicans have a very extentence vocabulary, in mexico if you say recámara or habitacion will understand right away..

When I lived in Pamplona, people would say "peque" for "kid". "Los peques están aquí." would be "The kids are here." I remember visiting Mexico after living in Spain for 3 years, so I thought my Spanish was quite strong, but I was quickly humbled by my inability to understand Mexican slang. 🤣 I also made the mistake of using "coger", which in Spain is simply "to take", but in Mexico...😆 And for the last one "you are a super cool person", my Spanish friends would say, "Eres un crack." which can also be "You're funny/crazy."

Tronco sounds outdated to me . I am forty one and it is the kind of slang my parents would use when triying to sound like young people and failing . Old local junkies in the nineties might still use it , but no Spaniard under forty would say " tronco " .

I like the Mexican expression "El mero mero" for "The real deal". I have also heard Mexicans refer to the boss as "el mero chingon" but I don't it would be appropriate to say it in church.

I'm two minutes into this video. I started studying Spanish in 1979. I'm to the point that I can tell if someone is from Cuba, Puerto Rico, or Spain. But the Central American and South American accents I can't tell from Mexican. But the slang is killing me. I've noticed that Mexican Slang is getting very vulgar. I want to sound more polished like a Doctor or Lawyer. Dígame licenciado. Licenciado. Gracias.
Cuba and Puerto Rico have the same accent to me. But the different slang words help differentiate them . People from the Canary Islands of Spain also sound overwhelmingly like Cubans and Puerto Ricans to me. But that's because Cuban and Puerto Rican people have strong roots in the canary islands.

No me jodas she didn’t say either. She didn’t use flipas which is as Spanish as jamón and you can use it in many contexts. All the words the Spanish girl used were actually quite childish. I don’t care= me la suda. She just uses guay or molas all the time, very lame.
For "I don't care" we do use "me da igual/me es igual" or "me resbala" but she held back a lot because it sounds a bit harsh, we tend to use "me la suda" or "me la pela". Nowadays we tend to use "suda" alone as a way to tell someone "don't care/don't let it get to you" I.E. No me gusta que sudes de todo siempre "I don't like that you never care about anything" -Me han llamado fea -Bah! suda, no tienen ni idea "-They called me ugly -Bah! Don't let it get to you, they have no idea"
Para "guay" también diríamos "chulo" y para "is that true" también podría valer "en serio?". Para "you are a cool person" a lo mejor se podría usar "me caes muy bien", no es exactamente lo mismo pero puede valer.

Te dejo algunas aquí para si quieres decírselas a alguien: -Cómo molas! - Eres la hostia! - Eres la hostia en patinete! - Eres la hostia en vinagre - Eres un máquina - Eres muy guay (no gay, no es lo mismo jajjaja) - Eres la bomba - Eres la repanocha - Eres un fiera (en femenino no sirve) - Te sales No se me ocurren más ahora mismo xD Algunas se podrían usar en el contexto contrario. Por ejemplo, si alguien la caga (hace algo mal, se equivoca) le dices: - Si es que eres la hostia... Pero con mal tono, así tiene el sentido contrario (Como reproche)

What does "igual" mean exactly? At 12:48 the Spanish woman says "me da igual" means "i don't care" in Spanish. In German, you can say "Es ist mir egal" for "i don't care." Are igual and egal the same?

In Puerto Rico, Spain's vernacular ( with the exception of tronco for dude) makes so much more sense than Mexicos. I never heard anyone say tronco for dude. I am surprised though that Andy didn't say "Me Importa un pito" for I don't care, and "No pasa nada" for no problem. I'm sure they must use those in Spain too.

For "posh," i was taught "te ves de lujo," so more like "you look luxurious." My grandpa was from jalisco. Or often we'd just say "elegante". I didn't know there was an actual word/phrase for "Posh"

For words like "kid", it might have been a bit difficult for her to find slang that's used in Spain as a whole, this is a kind of word that has a variety of slang equivalents in different regions, old people use "chaval" but now younger people use it a lot for dude, also we use "la chavalada" sometimes to refer to the younger generation as a whole. Some examples I can come up with would be: •Zagal (Aragón) •Rapaz (Galicia) •Canijo/Nano (Valencia? Or maybe Andalucia?) I think that's the origin of the word Cani •Nen (Cataluña) There are probably a lot more, if you're from another region of Spain, could you guys add your way of saying it too? I would also like to know :]

@@escfuego no European I know speaks Spanish with the Castilian accent, most Spanish students hate it actually. European Spanish is spoken too fast and they slur words. Mexican Spanish is much slower and they don’t cut words as much as other dialects do, that’s why it’s used to dub movies for the rest of Latam.

Yes = simon (see moan), No = chale, calm = calmantes montes, beer = cheves (if it's a big mug, "una cawama). Drunk = pedo (I'm drunk = "Estoy pedo). You want to dance? = Nos ponemos de chancla? (really old school).

I like the Spanish from Spain BETTER then the Spanish from Mexico in this video. -side note: the girl from Mexico is fronting a bit because Mexican DO use some of those Spanish words they use in Spain often. @@juanareyes7119 , The truth is Puerto Rico inherited that slang/ vernacular just as they did the language. Puerto Rico had some of the very first Spanish settlements, and was one of the last places to separate from Spain so it makes sense that PR directly inherited a bit more of the language,cultural traditions, and even vernacular. Thats why the PR accent is even practically identical to some of Spain's Andaluz and Canarian accents.
Mexican slang is superior to Puerto Rico slang. Also, Mexico was the center of the Spanish empire in North America, while pr was basically just a dot on the map lol

Una palabra controversial es coger. En Español de España 🇪🇸 significa tomar, pero nosotros no decimos “ Tomar un taxi, bus. Nosotros decimos coger el metro 🚇/ avión ✈️/ tren 🚂 etc. Si el verbo es reflexivo, significa que uno va a eyacular. Por favor, no confundáis “ Me cojo con cojo x medio de transporte.”
Porque decir «follar» u otra forma «indecente» sería muy fuerte, por lo que lo que realmente significa ‘grab/hold/take (transporte)’ pasó a ser jerga de censura para follar y hoy en gran parte de Latinoamérica tiene ese significado y tuvieron que usar ‘take’ (de alimentación) para transporte o ‘grab’ (agarrar de objetos como una caja o de sujetar algo o alguien cayéndose)... Menudo lío, eh?
No sé yo, el verbo en reflexivo no suele tener esa connotación, de hecho se suele usar "cogerse un pedal" y demás, nunca había escuchado lo de eyacular

A coworker of mine told me Mexicans use this phrase a lot. "No Pasa nada" which means literally "Nothing is happening" translates to " no problem"

Tronco sounds outdated to me . I am forty one and it is the kind of slang my parents would use when triying to sound like young people and failing . Old local junkies in the nineties might still use it , but no Spaniard under forty would say " tronco " .

Para los mexicanos es clarísimo el significado de cada una de estas frases, pero para algún extranjero, me imagino que deben ser tremendamente confusas y contradictorias.
A toda madre = Maravilloso
Es una madresota = muy grande
Es una madrecita = muy pequeño
Es una madre =muy pequeño o de poco valor
Madrear = golpear
¡Qué poca madre! = ¡Qué indignante!
Está poca madre = Está maravilloso
No tiene madre = maravilloso (pero ¡OJO!) según el contexto, también puede significar indignante
Chingar a tu madre = Chingar podría ser Fornicar, pero en realidad es algo muy inespecífico. Es solamente la frase de más radical desprecio que existe.
Un chingo puta madral = Muchísimo
Desmadre = Alboroto, diversión o desorden
Desmadrar = descomponer
Madrola = objeto de poca importancia
Me vale madres = no me importa
Pura madre = mentiras o cosas de poco valor
Me cae de madre = aseguro que lo que afirmo es verdad

I'm two minutes into this video. I started studying Spanish in 1979. I'm to the point that I can tell if someone is from Cuba, Puerto Rico, or Spain. But the Central American and South American accents I can't tell from Mexican. But the slang is killing me. I've noticed that Mexican Slang is getting very vulgar. Cuba and Puerto Rico have the same accent to me. But the different slang words help differentiate them . People from the Canary Islands of Spain also sound overwhelmingly like Cubans and Puerto Ricans to me. But that's because Cuban and Puerto Rican people have strong roots in the canary islands.

@@magalionv6473 pero no te piques, todo es español. Ahora bien, reconoce al menos que tanto el adjetivo “lindo/a” como el sustantivo “muchacho/a” es más propio de Hispanoamerica que de España. Aquí es más común decir “¡qué chicas más guapas!” o simplemente “¡qué bellezas!”. A no ser que seas de las Islas Canarias, en cuyo caso podría ser como dices. No se trata de que esté bien o mal, sino de la frecuencia de uso.

No me jodas she didn’t say either. She didn’t use flipas which is as Spanish as jamón and you can use it in many contexts. All the words the Spanish girl used were actually quite childish. I don’t care= me la suda. She just uses guay or molas all the time, very lame.

For "I don't care" we do use "me da igual/me es igual" or "me resbala" but she held back a lot because it sounds a bit harsh, we tend to use "me la suda" or "me la pela". Nowadays we tend to use "suda" alone as a way to tell someone "don't care/don't let it get to you"
I.E.
No me gusta que sudes de todo siempre
"I don't like that you never care about anything"
-Me han llamado fea
-Bah! suda, no tienen ni idea
"-They called me ugly
-Bah! Don't let it get to you, they have no idea"
Para "guay" también diríamos "chulo" y para "is that true" también podría valer "en serio?". Para "you are a cool person" a lo mejor se podría usar "me caes muy bien", no es exactamente lo mismo pero puede valer.

In Puerto Rico, Spain's vernacular ( with the exception of tronco for dude) makes so much more sense than Mexicos. I never heard anyone say tronco for dude. I am surprised though that Andy didn't say "Me Importa un pito" for I don't care, and "No pasa nada" for no problem. I'm sure they must use those in Spain too.

For words like "kid", it might have been a bit difficult for her to find slang that's used in Spain as a whole, this is a kind of word that has a variety of slang equivalents in different regions, old people use "chaval" but now younger people use it a lot for dude, also we use "la chavalada" sometimes to refer to the younger generation as a whole.
Some examples I can come up with would be:
•Zagal (Aragón)
•Rapaz (Galicia)
•Canijo/Nano (Valencia? Or maybe Andalucia?) I think that's the origin of the word Cani
•Nen (Cataluña)
There are probably a lot more, if you're from another region of Spain, could you guys add your way of saying it too? I would also like to know :]

@@escfuego no European I know speaks Spanish with the Castilian accent, most Spanish students hate it actually. European Spanish is spoken too fast and they slur words. Mexican Spanish is much slower and they don’t cut words as much as other dialects do, that’s why it’s used to dub movies for the rest of Latam.
In Cuban Spanish we also say resaca for hangover, and colega for a friend. But we also say chamaco for a kid.

European Spanish is more logical in their word translations to English while also provoking a more respectful tone of speech.

I'm from Califas (California) and we have some slang, but more from the street and old school. Yes = simon (see moan), No = chale, calm = calmantes montes, beer = cheves (if it's a big mug, "una cawama). Drunk = pedo (I'm drunk = "Estoy pedo). You want to dance? = Nos ponemos de chancla? (really old school).
Latin Spanish sounds more street Spanish, simpler and easier to understand. It's like British English vs American English.

@@juanareyes7119 , The truth is Puerto Rico inherited that slang/ vernacular just as they did the language. Puerto Rico had some of the very first Spanish settlements, and was one of the last places to separate from Spain so it makes sense that PR directly inherited a bit more of the language,cultural traditions, and even vernacular. Thats why the PR accent is even practically identical to some of Spain's Andaluz and Canarian accents.
Mexican slang is superior to Puerto Rico slang. Also, Mexico was the center of the Spanish empire in North America, while pr was basically just a dot on the map lol

Porque decir «follar» u otra forma «indecente» sería muy fuerte, por lo que lo que realmente significa ‘grab/hold/take (transporte)’ pasó a ser jerga de censura para follar y hoy en gran parte de Latinoamérica tiene ese significado y tuvieron que usar ‘take’ (de alimentación) para transporte o ‘grab’ (agarrar de objetos como una caja o de sujetar algo o alguien cayéndose)...

No sé yo, el verbo en reflexivo no suele tener esa connotación, de hecho se suele usar "cogerse un pedal" y demás, nunca había escuchado lo de eyacular

Nombre, nunca decimos 'dale' para OK. Decimos 'sale', 'orale', 'ya estas (peinado pa tras)', 'sobres' o hasta 'arre' en el norte!
