Really enjoyed listening to your experiences with your gear. Also great to hear your opinions on heads. I also like the Aquarian heads (vintage).
Love your Premier gear. - ace
Re weak left hand - me too. You could try open hand playing (like Billy Cobham) using your left hand on the hihat without reversing the kit. Saves swapping your feet and using you left foot on the kick drum.
Great video from a stormy UK !

I thought about just trying the open-handed bit as well, but I figured by totally switching everything around that it would benefit all my limbs and not just my left hand,

Wow Todd, that was a lot of insight into your mind concerning heads, snare wires, etc. Interesting. You mentioned aesthetics shouldn't be the main reason to choose heads, and I agree for sure. Still, that red dot is the reason i can't get myself to try the Attack head you like so much. I think I'd go nuts looking at that paired with my kit! Do they make the same head without the color, I wonder?
I'm excited for you to turn a kit around lefty. It should prove a fun challenge. You know how I love changing my configurations. And lessons? Oh, so jealous! Enjoy! Do keep an open mind, though. Practicing rudiments may seem boring, but they are the alphabet of drumming and can (read: "will") help you to articulate your musical thoughts. A good teacher might introduce a rudiment along with a practical application from the music you love.
One last thing, a fun fact about my drumming history: Liberty DeVitto was the first drummer i ever knew the name of. 52nd Street is one of my family's most listened to albums and I remember reading the sleeve specifically to see who played drums on it. He surely played great parts, and it's crazy that his parts weren't overtaking the whole songs with a hard as he hits his drums. The producer surely turned some knobs down to even things out!
Anyway, that was a nice, long video... I dig it! Aloha!

I like the ending, Todd. That was as wild as Michelle with the clapper.
All the information on the drum head's was needed. Heads will change the entire pronunciation of one's kit.
Throw in the drum dial for tuning, and any kit should sound sweet. I do not tap the head's anymore when tuning. The drum dial eliminates the guesswork.
The information on the lessons is absolutely essential. Lessons are not for everyone, but IMHO if one can afford lessons... Why not at least check it out. Reading music accompanies lessons, which is essential to follow along drum sheet music.
I am confident anyone will provide you with lessons if you choose not to read the music but want to increase fluidity/ speed.
I am blessed that G.C. is 3 miles down the road.
Eat,sleep, drum, repeat is how we achieve progression. 💪
Great Video and dig Billy Joel and Bruce Springstein.
    🎉
I know you did not do Springstein. 😅

Agree on much of what you say! I have a Ludwig LM402 (Bonham size 6.5x14). He played 42 strand snares so I bought a pair. Also using the Remo Emperor's on it, which I don't normally use on a snare. I LOVE this snare. It's hand down my favorite. The 42 strand, while they can buzz a bit when I hit my toms, are more articulate I guess you would say with softer strokes. And they really sound good when you pound it too. Just my even less expert point of view. They happen to be Tama Snappy Snares because the Puresound were out of stock at the time I ordered.
I do love the Puresound and the snare tune up kits they sell are a great deal! I also tried the Equalizer snares from Puresound to try and eliminate the buzz from hitting my toms. They were an improvement on my Pearl Sensitone. I believe it's 8 strands on each side? With the middle section empty. Not as much sensitivity to them.
Nothing against the Remo fans but I prefer all the D'adario stuff. Evans, Puresound, and while I don't have real preference on sticks, the Promark are great.
Never been disappointed with Aquarian heads either. Still want to try those Attack Red Barons though. I use the Attack Orbit set on my kick and love them.

Interesting about the heads! Attack heads seems to be hard to get over here in swe, but your talk made me curious about them. I'm a remo guy myself, but mostly out of habit. The drum guy in the music store where I grew up refused to sell evans or aquarian because he didn't want to sell "piece of shit heads" 😂 . Those equalizer snare wires seem interesting and I really want to try them, but wires are a bit too expensive to just replace when there's nothing wrong with the stock one imo.
If you like your snares a bit more beefy, you could try a double ply head with outer muffling like the remo pinstripe. It worked wonders for me, but the problem is that it limits you to a certain sound or character, so I get why the fat dampening ring is your go-to.
I'm a bit jelaous of your super olympic snare! I have a normal 8-lug olympic 5,5" deep and man it sounds good. I sold my pearl bronze snare after I got the olympic because of how much better it sounded. I used some of the money to buy a Premier 35 aluminum snare and that one is also fantastic.

POS Heads? Wow, talk about bias. Poor business choice as well as he is sure to lose customers that way.
Yeah wires can be a bit pricey but given the fact that I am not one of the better snare tuners out there, that little bit goes a long way in my opinion. I'll never buy a set larger than 20 strand again either- I love what I get from the 16's.
As far as most of my snare heads, I use a lot of double ply heads but I also like to experiment with singles. The Remo controlled sound and the Attack Top Baron are my favorites now. Less fuss and just great sound every time and it's a shame you're not able to find the Attacks there. Emperors seems to be everyone's go-to head but I've never liked them.
I got lucky in regard to that super Olympic. I was told by another guy that it was not a super- it was just a cheap plain old Olympic. Un true- Supers were the only ones with ten lugs. And the only ones I've ever seen with the blue "P" badge. I'd never get rid of that snare. My other Olympics sound great as well- even the cheap one that came with my Olympic drum set. That one sounds better than most and yet, it's the cheapest I have. Go figure!

I want to see if you still think your feet aren't a problem when you switch to lefty!😂
It feels so weird. Years of starting off with that right foot on the one. Good luck though. It's a good thing to do. I've tried and will again once I can start playing again with my left hand (29th!).

Like the old saying goes- that which does not kill you, only makes you stronger. If anything, it hopefully will make it easier to delve into fancier things and make it easier to play songs that require more than just a 4/4 beat
