Good Saturday morning to you, my friend. I just finished watching your bearing edge video and think that it makes a ton of sense. I also think that your idea about treating the insides of the shells with some type of wood conditioner really makes sense. I think that something like linseed oil or tungoil sp.? would be good for the wood.
It’s funny you mentioned the Drumdial product made for helping the bearing edges and compared it to Chapstick. Yep, you are correct again , my friend. Why pay 10x more for something just because it’s got a certain name when an ordinary household item is basically the same for a fraction of the cost? Great point.
Anyway, enjoy the remainder of your time off and take care.❤️🙏👏❤️🙏👏❤️

This is something I haven't done in years. I only did it to kits with rough bearing edges, never to my good kits. Surely it couldn't hurt, but I think if your edges are pretty smooth, it's just not necessary. My ears never really noticed a difference, though admittedly I had a lesser trained ear. Maybe I'll check this out again after I have my dream recording setup.

Interesting philosophy concerning that wax on the bearing edge. Good stuff. I about fell out of the easy chair with the toenail Crack. I feel for you on that one, brother. 😅
    Rock steady!
2/4/2024 0400 I seen a note on the Tube ( just now) asking yes or no if I get repetitive requests to view or not view the rdavidr video. ( something like that) something's fishy Bro.

I did it once, out of curosity, and never thought about it again, and never will..if you or i find a kit thats been in a garabe/attic/basement with no head or just the rims attached and stacked up or strewn about, than sure id probably LOOOB !! The edges up. But in the process if theyre that shot or knicked up, od probably be taking sandpaper to the edges, even if its 1600 grit..a bearing edge doesnt need to be perfect.if that was the case than wed have done away with snare beds and done the rogets dynasonic thing like 60 years ago. If big chunks can be taken out, than it's a non issue.especislly if youve seem the video by drumeo, where they put snare beds and wires on the whole kit. That dude was just dremeling squared chunks out and calling it good,as a snare bed 😅

Never done that in my 45 years of drumming (32 as a full time professional).

Yeah, this was my first time. I don't adhere too well to the philosophy that the bearing edges have to be perfect. I've seen an old set of drums with just round-overs and they sounded good. I did notice after I did this that the head tuned a little easier- obviously just less friction on the head of course. Plus, the only other plus would be that the wood is a little better protected. I had stained a set of drums a while back and a guy had commented that because I had accidently got some stain of the bearing edge that it was going to sound terrible. It didn't of course. I don't know where some of these people get their info.

I bought the Drumdial Chapstick thing. I was new and afraid to buy the wrong thing. Yeah i agree, save some money and buy ChapStick or whatever.
I have been considering coating the interior of my PDP sheels for some time. Then i think I should get the bearing edges cut down too. Well, i would also prefer the kick be a 16 instead of an 18 and the 12x9 to be a 12x8, etc. and then, well i will wrap them too. Well might as well just go buy a brand new set in the color and sizes i want! Its a money pit. I still believe i am going to coat the interiors with something and sand the edges as needed. I just don't know what i want to seal them with.
Had Covid since last weekend. Starting to feel like i can do something today. Maybe.
Hope you and your better half are doing well buddy. ENJOY the rest of your vacation time.
Is that your wife I hear calling you??

I heard people use tung oil or something like that inside their shells.... don't know much about it

@@CheapDrumsGuy yes! I heard the same I think from drums.pizza but not sure. I like that idea because it barely changes the look. Not sure I would want white or whatever interior. Although I know many great drums are. If you use coated heads I guess it doesn't matter but I prefer clear usually on my toms. Thanks Bud.

Hope your back in the drum saddle Spagz. That Covid affects each of us differently.
I would consider a coat of spray polyurethane on the inside of the shells. ( or 6 coats) I happen to love the wood grain look. Some shells are painted. Hard to know what is correct. Sugar...some guys throw cotton balls in the shells.
I thought Todds video on the bearing edges was informational. Would not have removed heads just to wax them. What does Angel go over in the lesson yesterday was changing the heads and WAXING THE BEARING EDGES.
      I could not believe it.
      We are Fortunate and blessed.
      Cannot change yesterday...its history.
Tomorrow is a hope and prayer it arrives.
      Live for the Day.
      Beat those skins.
Thank you Cheap drum guy for bringing us together.
