You are obviously an accomplished drummer, but watching ZZ Top live and listening to the recording closely it's clear that he does a full four-note shuffle with his left hand...so it's not all that simple after all! Cheers. Thumbs up.
Hi, Bradford and many thanks for your comment - I’m still a student and still wanting to learn, but cheers for your very kind compliment. Although I’ve been playing a while I’m truly a newbie on UA-cam…lol..! Right at the outset I do state that ‘this is how I play it’ in reference to the short clip from the blues jam - I think others have realised that and I know at least one has stated that he plays the track the same way. Maybe I should have called it ‘How I play it..’ but most covers are always like that. I do have a short series of 12 shuffles on my channels…I think the ‘Frank Beard original’ is possibly No.4. Part of the problem here is the speed at which the blues band wanted to do the song at…I probably though lets run with plan B…lol…! Thanks again, keep in touch and all the best from the Belfast Drum Channel…!
Lovely job. Regarding the triplet fill. Sounds great, traditional Bonham. However, what I’ve seen is a loose flam triplet twice around the kit. Snare kick, rack Tom kick, floor Tom kick and repeat finishing with snare flam .
Great job, its suprising how many people cant ply the shuffle, even some guys on you tube giving lessons. BTW thats the way I play it and hear it, Also there are a couple (at least) versions where the drums are very different.
Cheers, Westerngumby, much appreciated. Yeah, I know there’s different versions but I think this - or close to this is used most of the time. Anyhow sounds we’re both in the right lol…😁 Check out my other lessons on here plus on my Buy me a Coffee page if you wish. Regards, A
@@alansykesdrumschool Thanks Ill check out your other page. Ive started a you tube channel doing drim videos and some other stuff check ikt out ua-cam.com/video/bk_Gre7q5Hg/v-deo.html
Hi Alan , thanks for uploading ! What is the sticking for the fill ? Is it RLK or do 6:01 you start with the bass and do KRL ? I think it’s easier to do the latter so that you don’t need 2 very quick bass hits to come out of it and crash on the 1 with the bass - many thanks cheers
Thanks for the comment! Yes, I’m starting with, I suppose a ‘lead note’ into the triplet figure on the bass drum…I think you can hear that ok in the ‘slow’ section of the lesson. Cheers, A.

Thanks for the lesson. I don't think Frank ends that fill with a snare/cymbal. I think it's a kick/cymbal. I could be wrong, but that's how it sounds to me.
The groove is known as a Texas swing & has been from long before Frank Beard famously used it, maybe you're not aware of that? you don't mention it. Also, as someone else mentions, he plays all 4 on the snare.
This is a shuffle. There are variations that include the ‘swing pattern’ on the hit hat or ride but this isn’t one of them. I’ve a series of 12 Essential shuffles here on my channel however that does include that variation if you’d like to go check. ua-cam.com/play/PL15jTfslM66qLhoi4Z8JUN88_cUpD0sLa.html&si=zp7WNF3rbyPQvBfs
Ah, I charge for that lol..! OR just watch again. The shuffle, that I'm playing... explained... (Or check my shuffle series that I mentioned) AND the fill - the way I hear it ,and the way I play it. Those are the only two elements of this vid...so what was it that I left out, mate..?? Cheers!
Nice job thankyou bro
Cheers, man...! Much appreciated..!

Thanks and Blessings Alan!

Actually in the studio version the BD is playing a shuffle also ...NOT quarter noted. Exactly with the snare drum.

Thanks so much. New venture for me (regular posts only in the past 9 months or so - never had the time before..!) Hey, hope you’ve subscribed 😜
