I have budget shells so it just makes sense to add budget heads lol. I’m definitely going to try these out. Love the tuna wrap shell too!! That’s a great idea!
Yeah like I bought a flugelhorn made by Levante, the tuning slide trigger isn’t perfect, but everything else I is great, and it costed like 265 dollars too
I don’t know much about drum heads but I think for the price those sounded amazing. I’d expect them to be super easily broken and sound like a drum kit for kids but those were really decent. I guess almost anything can sound good when someone who knows what they’re doing is tuning/playing them.
I was pretty sure you were going to say, "You get what you pay for and these are crap." That's pretty cool that they worked okay. Didn't sound amazing, but they didn't sound terrible. It would be fine for just practicing, jamming or putting on a kit to sell. (I would definitely recommend them for that house kit I played on a couple weeks ago that had absolutely worn out, out-of-tune heads.)
I've been using these on my toms for over 2 years now. They hold up. They are a bit more muted than pinstripes in my opinion. sound just fine and even better mic'd. haven't broken one yet and I hit pretty hard.
I'm no drummer, I'm a guitar player. So to me, without any knowledge of drum tones, it sounded good. In a live show you definitely wouldn't notice the difference of these to more expensive brands like Remo. (Again, if you're not a drummer). So yeah, it's definitely worth the money.
Honestly they didn't sound nearly as bad as I anticipated, quite the opposite actually. They're not amazing but absolutely decent considering the prize. Maybe not something I'd use in the studio, but on practice kit somewhere or the local church drum set, absolutely.
@5:24 we used to buy the 20-pairs of bulk sticks that came in bags, and we went to all the stores for used cymbals every month...I am good with my Remo setup to answer the question about these heads
I love that Tuna Can snare so much holy cow! Also, I'll definitely grab these in the future for my home practice kit when it comes time to replace those, I use Evans SoundOff pads so they don't really need to sound incredible.
That last point is actually critical. These heads are incredibly affordable, so if you are having a rough day you can just take it out on the drums. The drums are such a good stress outlet and affordable heads will make me feel less bad if I do ruin them
Nice work David! I’m a Remo guy as I hedge you are too. Why do we like Remo so much? It could be a cool but potentially controversial video idea on different brand comparisons. Remo, Evans, Aquarian, etc. I also appreciate the Saturday morning video upload time. My version of a cartoons. Lol 🤓 Well done David! Keep up the great work.
Hey Dave-been a drummer off and on for almost 50 years (between raising a family and all the responsibility of that) and enjoy your advice and the drummer hacks you share. Wish I could've known these in the 70's and 80's. But on this video the first thing I noticed was how perfectly matched your cymbals were. They matched perfectly with all 3 genres of the music you played. Not even bad drums and/or drum heads make a set sound worse than wrong cymbals. You know your stuff and even at my old ass age (67) I can learn from you. Well done!
If you only had one kit, and didn't want to ruin your expensive heads this would be an amazing option. Leave these heads on the kit for practice. They don't sound perfect, but well enough. And then just take them off and put your professional heads on for performances. That way, you can have nice heads, but they'll be rotated out with the practice heads and you won't need replacing nearly as often so you actually save a mint over time.
I use them on my cheap kit and here theyre called "remo encores". They can sound good as concert toms and IF they are properly tuned and muffled you can also get some decent results.
I've had a set in my studio for years but never replaced the heads cuz I'm broke. I'm no drummer, but I want em to sound decent, and now I know where to get cheap heads.
Yayyy !!! New content !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DON'T CARE WHAT IT IS BC IT'S GONNA BE GOOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!! rdavidr 💯 Edit: I was right! Great editing - best laugh at 5:12 👏 Thank you David Also the heads are "sold out"
Thank you for another amazing video! I will just add that I didn't hear the word terephthalate since the early 90' when we were no longer socialistic country and we were finally able to buy more products that were made in western countrys. That time I fisrt time read about what our - Czech ( made by brand called Amati ) drumheads were made out of.. And I never heard the word again, until now.. but also, I never forgot it.. 😁😁 I can't speak about the sound or quality, I was only a teen and it's a long ago. I only remember that there were coated for snares, clear ones as reso heads ( very thin ones ) and what is now Remo White Smooth were basically the only head in production for rack and floor toms.
I was in middle school when I had my Ludwig accent combo mic'd up. I probably had cheap Remo heads and maybe found out tape or rings to get muffling out. Even my parents were impressed when they heard how nice attack and boom they had.
i want my heads to cause moist not prevent it🤣 love your tom work sploosh. def a great option when you let someone use your kit at practice. nah they only destroyed my crashes n splashes.🍻
Attack drumheads sells a full set of 1 ply heads for $51. Could be a fun one to test, especially on that sound percussion set you just made the video on.
dude for $37? absolutely worth it, I obviously don't think they'll retain their tuning as long over time, or last as long as more expensive heads, but considering you can buy 3 full sets of these and still have spent less than buying 1 set of remos? yeah, just go for it haha
Hah! I'd bought the 'Lost In Translation' movie on DVD for $2 at a local 2nd-hand store only very recently! 😁 And "Bumblebee Tuna" reminds me of another movie: "Ace Ventura - When Nature Calls" 😄 That snare sounds amazing in the 'Pop' segment! 🤩👍
Great allaround Heads man!! Sounds perfect as all other heads sounded great too with your earthworks mics !!!But is a fair comparison cause you use the same mics for everything!!!
Can you try a set of 'Code' heads? They claim to be British but they are actually made in China. They've nicked Premier's old 'donut' design for one of their most popular skin designs
@@krusher74 No. they are not I know all about who's making what. Al Murray is the MD of Code. Premier are actually back. They are now owned by Gear4Music. BDC is run by Keith Keogh (Ex Premier, as you say. But not with Premier in the glory years, just the decline) and funnily enough he's mates with Code's MD. I see Keith Keogh as a big part of Premier's past troubles but some people think he's some kind of God
how was the feeling though? They actually sound pretty decent for what you pay. However the feeling of drumheads is a big deal for me. Just the last week I bought Evans UV2 for my snare and it feels really good to play on, particulary bouncy compared to other ones.
Very cool David. Here is the deal, Mylar is a brand name of DuPont and is the same material as the chemical name PET. So Mylar is PET film. PET film is the generic equivalent to Mylar. So are the heads the same as Remo Pinstripes? No. Crimped edges like the old Ludwigs (many people loved and miss those Ludwig heads vs the glued epoxy edges on Remos. How have Pinstripes changes by Remo? Used to be able to see the rainbow effect and "apparent" but nonexistent oil between them. (Newton's rings). Now, that rainbow effect thing is gone. Did they change the orientation of the plys to cause this? I am not sure, but they are different than say Pins from 10 years ago. But I have no new old stock pins to compare to new stock pins. Your drums sounded great with the PET heads and with processing, who would know?
Prices have going insane. Especially Remo. I went with Evans and that softens the blows of prices a bit. Added bonus is that they have a much longer lifespan. I had G2 clear heads on the toms that sounded, tuned snd looked like new even after two years. Btw. The tested heads here arent available on Amazon
Absolutely, Evans heads have insane durability. The Evans EC RD is the most durable drum head I've ever played, that thing won't ever break. Perfect for hardhitters.
I don't have great love for pinstripes muffled sound anyways as I prefer coated emperor's but that said this cheap alternative sounds fine to me and I have no problem with buying these heads to use at home but on the rare occasion of studio recording then I am gonna buy a remo pro pack, simple as! Having a choice is a great thing.
Chinese made products by a Chinese owned company or USA made by a USA owned company. That's a big part of my decision. So I typically use Evans, Remo, or Aquarian. I've also used Attack which is a USA owned company with their heads made in Taiwan (not China).
My only question would be longevity. If they stay this good for a while this really is an insane deal for most uses with the only exception being the studio and maybe (if they wear faster) a professional touring drummer that plays like pretty much every night. But yeah, this is a full kit for the price of 1.5 tom with Remo. That's stupid cheap and when tuned correctly I don't think many people would even notice it.
Hey David, would you ever consider doing a video of DIY vintage yellowing of white drum wraps? I've recently refurbished this vintage Royce kit and half the kit is yellowed which I really like but the other half is not. Trying to figure out a solution.
How many of you are going to use these drum heads? I mean, they're only THIRTY SEVEN DOLLARS!!!
These heads are regular heads we use in our country (cheapest)
Mostly called remo encore
Definitely
Hard pass for me!
Negative. They don't sound good. I also try to avoid powering the Chinese economy whenever I can
I have budget shells so it just makes sense to add budget heads lol. I’m definitely going to try these out. Love the tuna wrap shell too!! That’s a great idea!
Proof that in all instruments, we just always fall for marketing and get caught up in big brand names. These smaller brands deserve a shot.
It helps when you have a good set too

Not a cheap kit though, I imagine a cheap setup would sound much worse
i think the real change would come after some usage, durability seems like a thing too

Food drums are always great. I once saw alestorm live with a lasagna double bass drum
