As a former trail maintenance crew member, I would say that it is often a capricious decision on the part of the trail manager over that particular trail about maintaining it. They have a limited amount of funding every year to pay their trail crew, and more trails to maintain than there are dollars to pay the trail crew in their budget, most likely. As a result, decisions must be made about which trails will be maintained and which will be let go. Unfortunately, it looks like someone decided that this trail would be let go. I am so happy that you have the time, energy, and motivation to do this type of work. THANK YOU for spending 5 long, hard days of intense physical labor on this project! Props man, I've always wondered how much of a grind it would be to walk in to that cabin. I will be so grateful when I hike in sometime soon! Mountaineering paradise is waiting. An update for ya on the logging up Rice Brook South Fork: The project is essentially scraped because the planned road is too expensive to build. If you feel like busting your ass one more time to unlock access to a cool spot, just needs another 4km of trail cut from the end of my trail you checked out last summer!
Hey Noah, thanks for the update! Thats good to know, that is tempting to carry on from your work! I think we were chatting on Instagram too, i deleted my account so i lost the ability to message. Maybe I'll see you around some time! Cheers
@forestyforest Ah yeah makes sense, I was gonna send you message cause I was going into the Blackwater range the other weekend to bag Blackwater and ski down. I thought you could be interested. Not a cult cabin. It was built specifically for mountaineers skiing or climbing any of the beautiful the peaks in that area, nothing more, nothing less. Mountaineering has been popular in the Selkirk and Rocky mountain areas for many decades and huts like these make doing it a more plausible undertaking.

Great work clearing out the trail into Fairy Meadows! Many thanks for your efforts!🙏🙏 I know exactly how much of a challenge that trail can be. I ran the Alpine Club's GMC at Fairy Meadows in 1986, 1992 and 2000, we camped in the meadow below the hut. I walked the trail at least 10 times during those camps. I packed my trusty Stihl 009 and a machete each time I walked out, trying to improve the trail. By the end of each GMC the trail was in pretty good shape, most of the participants walked in and out, beating the trail in. Thanks again, the trail is an important corridor to an amazing location.
You are an amazing person Foresty. Very thoughtful/respectful of u NOT to show private info of occupants of cabin. You're a very diligent/hard worker with great integrity. Rocko loves you for a reason...🤗 Thank you for your videos. They're epic and you're wonderful...
First off, I'd like to thank Forest for all great work he did on the trail. Having it largely cleared with most of the deadfall cut out made a huge difference on a trip in last week. There are some new deadfalls here and there but they're manageable. Plus the Swan Creek wildfire this summer has added some more obstacles to deal with. I would just like to make a few comments about the trail based on what I read in the guest book at the hut and what I learned after speaking with some other groups we met up there over the weekend. Firstly, you may or may not be able do this trip in 4.5 hours. Our group carrying in heavy packs with mountaineering gear made it in 6.5 hours and we felt that was a pretty good time that matches with what the ACC estimates it will take the average group to hike in. A lot of the guests in the log book said it took them 8 or 10 hours to hike in and the one group we shared the hut with had wandered in after dark after expecting it to only be a four or five hour hike which ended taking them more than nine hours to do. And it's not the safest trail to be wandering around on in the dark. On the other hand, a group of trail runners we met had taken 4.5 hours but they all had pretty light packs on. Your mileage may vary. To note, this is a very technical hike; this is no Parks Canada hiking trail through the forest. There's still a lot of alder bashing, side hilling, an active forest fire and burn zone, rock gardens, very steep slopes, and slippery moraines to manage. Obviously those hazards are manageable but take those into consideration and plan accordingly. There are parts of this trail in which a slip or fall could mean serious injury or death especially up higher on the trail near the moraines and the waterfalls or when it's wet. That said, once again, thanks Forest. I kind of enjoyed this trek in but next time, I'll fly, haha.
That's great to hear it's getting some traffic this summer! Yeah it's definitely a challenging hike, still takes routefinding skills. I'm hoping to head back again with a brushcutter and do the second half so it's easier to follow.

Way to go foresty!! My buddy and I gave it a go last October and only made it 1/2 way…yesterday we made it to the moraine but ran out of time for a day hike…the 2 small fires this summer created a mess on the trail early on in the old growth and slowed us significantly but I have to say the work you did to the moraine was incredible…couldn’t stop remarking how much effort you put in…truly incredible and extremely thankful…just wish I had my 20 yr old legs lol
Your trail maintenance looks soooooo rewarding! I’m disabled, but if able-bodied, I’d LOVE to be out there keeping trails updated for other hikers! Alone. In the woods. Me and a chainsaw. And maybe a monster weed wacker. Heck yeah!! Good on ya. And what an awesome cabin!! I’d sleep like a baby up there by myself with that spectacular view. The drone shots were stunning!!! 😊
Two words Foresty…Lighter Chainsaw! I have the Stihl Ms-170 and it’s great. You can get the Ms-172 with the 16” bar and it weight just over 10 pounds empty! Does a great job as well!
FF.. You are a good egg. Nice job.... Its actually fun and rewarding to watch you clear that path. Plus, I could watch Rocco run around with the zoomies all day!!!
All that keeps running through my head while watching this: he's so awesome, he's so awesome.... The way you care for the land you explore and make it a better place for those who come after you. You're so awesome!
Simon, you are a good soul. Fixing that trail was a herculean effort. Loved seeing Rocko running around in a fit. My dog used to do that and it was always entertaining. Peace to you.
Great video. I really liked that he didn't break the rules with his little sidekick because, no one would have known. 5 - 6 long days condensed down to 20 mins. That was a lot of hard hard work he did on behalf of the community. Respect. Beautiful locations. Thanks for all the time, effort you put into this video, great work!
The stuff you do to clear and maintain trails, totally voluntarily and unpaid, is absolutely amazing! As a complete lardy-assed townie, I'd never even think that anybody would need to do that kind of thing. If anything, I'd've thought they just maintained themselves! Shows what little I know, eh? Anyway, keep up the great work, Foresty...and Rocko!

You give back more than any other vanlifer. What a great trip!
I can only imagine just how much distance made hearts grow fonder between man & beastie. 😊
Night & Day between the two shelters. Can see why you wanted a quick exit from one and had grueling patience to reach the other.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful life with us & remember You are never alone; we are your besties. @--->--
Hope you're having a great week, Foresty and Rocko
Nice job Simon. What a guy!
good guy forestyforest maintaining the forest
Thanks!
Thank you..! Appreciate that!
@@forestyforest Help with the cost of gas lol.
Dude. You never cease to amaze me!
Your efforts made it a walk in the park for those that follow. Hopefully others will realize how high you set the bar.
Thanks for all the work!
Hey thanks Jeremy, that's generous of you! Cheers and happy hiking 😊
Great job brother. RIP Bill. What an amazing legacy. Canada must be proud of you.
Yes, thank you to Bill for donating the money to build such a fantastic hut! He is probably looking down from heaven and smiling at Foresty. 🕊
WOW ...just WOW!!!! ....that panoramic view near the end!!!
We also get to enjoy the fruits of your labor. You are a kind soul Simon. Be safe.
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how much Rocko brings to the uploads. Not having her in the final bit just ain’t the same.
Drone shots are epic! ❤❤❤ Thanks for the trail maintenance, you are a hero!
Canadians thank you for all the amazing trail work you are doing!
That house gave my an uncomfortable feeling within a few seconds!
Looked like a crime scene.
Two words Foresty…Lighter Chainsaw! I have the Stihl Ms-170 and it’s great. You can get the Ms-172 with the 16” bar and it weight just over 10 pounds empty! Does a great job as well!
Hey Simon. Thanks for another great video. 👍
FF.. You are a good egg. Nice job.... Its actually fun and rewarding to watch you clear that path. Plus, I could watch Rocco run around with the zoomies all day!!!
Awesome. You rock, Foresty!
All that keeps running through my head while watching this: he's so awesome, he's so awesome.... The way you care for the land you explore and make it a better place for those who come after you. You're so awesome!
You're the best Foresty! More Rocco please!
Those drone shots at the end.....wow what a place!
Wow! Amazing work. Thanks for your efforts
The definition of an awesome adventure…with some giving back to the community sprinkled in! Nice work!
dude!! amazing work. Loads of Mountain Karma for you. Thank you for your amazing acts of kindness and giving people access to amazing places!!
What an awesome spot. This was another outstanding video and the trail maintenance was outstanding. That would be a great spot to live. Thank you for another outstanding video. Take care, Al
I love to watch Rocko's "zoomies" when she's excited! You did an amazing amount of work on this trail, Simon. You're such a good steward of the land! I was disappointed that Rocko didn't get to finish the mission, but thanks for sharing all that you do!
I wish I could hug one of this trees the are beautiful 😊😊😊you're a good man cleaning the tril 😊God bless
Incredible work you’ve done Halton brother. BC has adopted a great man and his dog. Looks great! 🍻
That beautiful sunset! You’re such a treasure, taking good care of Forest land and showing folks the right way to treat our precious lands. Cheers to you and Rocko for another great adventure.
One man and one dog trail crew. Out there making things "accessible" again. Thanks for all your hard work and you definitely deserved the sauna. Beautiful scenery at the end. Thanks for taking us along.
Really awesome. You put so much effort into making that trail nice for all.
Chuckled so hard when you walked in that room and said " i dont like ittt." You throw in the cutest funnies. Hands down my favorite you-tuber. ❤️🌟
Thank you!
UA-cam giveth and sometimes taketh. But today, it has giveth. I've never seen this channel before and I'm instantly a fan. You make me wanna get around trees so badly. I grew up in the country and I'm feeling so lonely in this concrete jungle I find myself in. Thanks for sharing. One love ❤️
Beautiful hike! Your cinematography is why I keep coming back. What a nice cabin! Not the haunted one.
You're the man, Foresty!
