@@xcalibertrekker6693 No. Those era of planes were built as fast and cheap as they were not expected to last long in wartime. The airplane is simply in good shape still because its made out of aluminum. Aluminum essentially lasts forever as it forms its own oxidation layer over itself, which protects it from corrosion. It has nothing to do with "old timey quality".

They did have high altitude low temp flight suits and jackets, although SOP is not to shelter in an aircraft as a last resort. Surrounded by metal the cold is all around you by wind chill. A snow cave would be much warmer. You should check out "Survival in the Andes" about the soccer team that crashed. The one you want is written by the man who walked out and saved them. Most inspiring book I've read from a non-military situation. Peace

My dog of 8yrs 6 months and 6 days died this morning Foresty, I never thought that far ahead when I got him. Something made him sick or something and 2 different Vets never actually figured it our, because Anaplasma or hip dysplasia doesn't kill a dog in 15 days. It was awful, he yelped when he got out of bed or fell trying to get up. He wouldn't get up this am, I knew it was bad, I went on our walk path alone halfway, cried at the bench and came home to him rhythmic cry yelping until it was just rhythmic mouth opening and then he was gone, right in my living room on his favorite bed. It's so sad, I'm typing this alone because it's too hard to deal with coming home from work the first night in 8.5yrs and he's not here.
Take lots of pics, cherish every minute and enjoy your puppers to the max.
    Take care.

Rocco proving why a Jack Russell is the perfect companion dog. I’ve been owned by 6 since age 3 and I’m 60 now. They were all different, but all the best company. I’m off to walk the Pennine Way again next year and my 3 year old JRT is coming too.

How simple it is when someone doesn't live in Brazil. Here, if someone leaves their belongings behind, when they return, they'll have nothing left! That is, if they don't rob you first...
Congratulations on the content! I thought it was really cool and I'll keep watching.

that band of sunlight on the mountainside when you were packing up your tent made for a beautiful shot. You have such an eye for beauty. And Rocko made me laugh out loud when she snatched the rock from your hand and wrestled it into submission, then rolled on it's dead body. Your choice of name for her was prophetic. I love the landscape you were in, it seemed more relatable for me. those big peaks and the glaciers and river crossings you do really scare me. It's great to see you and Rocko out enjoying life. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.

Thanks Foresty, this is a great story!
Your video inspired me to do some digging, turns out three other planes crashed searching for the Skymaster, and all the pilots survived. (that article also said there are more than 500 other wrecked planes "scattered around the Yukon"!)
There is a documentary about it here on UA-cam: "Skymaster Down", think I'll check it out...
    Thanks again Foresty!
