The moment you touched the plate on the drive and that awful noise stopped was a priceless relief from that awful sound. I remember buying my Wii on launch day. People were furious at us for some reason and one or two kids were weeping. I took that Wii with me to Iraq when I deployed. I was looking for a video like this...exactly 10 years ago. 2013. The year my Wii started falling apart. I still have it to this day. I haven't touched it. It's still barely functional. This year, I just might try my hand at refurbishing it. Maybe I can get it to play Project M again. Your Wii is in surprisingly good condition. Mine works, but it crashes often. Might be in worse condition than yours, given the dust collected over the decade. Ehh, but it'll still be fun to open it up. And as always, watching you open things is relaxing and interesting. **God, I love the candle trick. I learned that one by complete accident on my own.

Ah the nostalgia. I still have mine which is in my closet next to the Wii U, but sadly I lost mostly all my Wii games when my parents moved here and there. The only Wii games I still have is Mario Kart and Sonic Colors.
Great video as always. Now we just need to see the PS3 restoration and the 7th gen series will be complete. I don't remember playing on the Wii growing up but seeing ads for it, it always mesmerized me.

It's a pretty neat life hack if the sensor bar ain't working. The Wiimote is kinda similar to a lightgun, in that the red panel at the top of the controller houses a dual IR sensor. The sensor bar is really just a portable infrared light "fixture." The Wii U's Gamepad also has infrared lights around the camera. Any pair of properly spaced sources of infrared light will work in a pinch, but candles/tea lights are a popular option. I apologize for the rambling, but it's an interesting subject.

What a great video! You've managed to save what would have been considered trash and made it a fully functional console that looks good as new. It's one of my favorites of all time, I still use mine to this day.
I worked retail when this was launched, was able to get one on its first holiday season when a customer returned an unopened box wii just because they needed the money back for other presents. I love this system, i was the life of the party for a bit when no one else could find a wii lol. Great library of games as well as a great system for hacks and emulation.
Cheers @Odd Tinkering, happy new year and thanks for all your content!!!
i really enjoy watching you fix old gaming consoles like this. they basically function like new when you're done with them! awesome work
It's really nice seeing this Wii getting restored considering it is the first console I ever had so I hold a lot of nostalgia for it, love your vids btw
Thank you for the lack of music and the clear mechanical noises. This is very relaxing to watch and also a great restoration!! Congrats!!!!
Never thought the sound of a disc drive injecting and ejecting woulda ever sounded so nostalgic to me 😂
Bless this little guy. I had many hundreds of hours put on my wii, and I treasured every moment.
I always take care of my wii and today in 2023, it's still working. But you just took a withered wii and now it's better than mine.
being able to repair and restore something that was basically thrown away as trash due to poor care or accidents is something so remarkable and beautiful
I still have a functioning one of these that works really good I love this old console
Amazing how even the sound of the disk eject and accept mechanism brings back such strong memories.
I don’t remember how I found your channel, but I’m glad I did. It’s so cool seeing you restored these products to their original look.
Geat video as always. I've known the PSP was 18 years old but somehow I imagine the Wii being closer to like 14-15.
Wii is from 2006.
@@mateus02681 Correct. I'm saying that I'm surprised it's 2006.
@@kairon156 think he’s trying to explain thats 16-17 years
@@ThePorkchopExpress975 I tend to not count the current year when looking at how old stuff is.
My phone is 4 years old even though it's 5th "birthday" is in August.
"Dustier than your Grandma's wii" I see what you did there.
I love that repair /refurbish videos. You did a great job. Thanks for that. The Wii looks brand new. And it is awesome to see the Ducktor again.
I just got a electronics repair kit and I’m so excited! I also just fixed my wii!
I believe those runes on the paper say subscribe, I love the little things you put in your videos, it's very entertaining
This and the DS Lite are two of the best looking gaming systems I've ever seen.
my grandmother has had a wii honestly probably since they were released and its still in great condition
This is so relaxing to watch this in the middle of the morning, I literally just wake up at 4 o clock
That is some miracle work right there, my man. Well done! So shiny, and it even runs quiet!
Not much in the world is done with this level of care and dedication anymore, and I respect it!
Much love.
7:19 Nice touch on using runes .. Loved that one too on top of great restoration ❤
I'm surprised how clean the shell of that Wii was after just scrubbing it. When I first saw it I assumed you'd be spending tons of effort on restoring the original polish. Glad to see that wasn't the case!
With most games being discless now, I miss the little sounds those old consoles used to make.
This is genuinely interesting to me. While I would probably lose all the screws due to my clumsiness, I still love learning about how my favorite things work. Seeing this make me appreciate my Wii even more!
No signal lg
I suddenly want a Wii again 💀 Loved seeing all of the console innards, so many screws!
This is the definition of recycling and we need more of things like this on earth.
I did feel old - but in a good way! It was the first console we bought for out kids and it's still around, although two of them are now adult and the youngest sweet sixteen. So very fond memories - and a great video, as always! I should have worn sunglasses for the final shots 😎!
The wii is genuinely just phenomenal, a classic that is easy to repair and a brand new one could last a decade
I learned that one by complete accident on my own.
i still play the wii regularly and i'm almost 50 years old. But I have the second edition in black. I don't know what it is, but as a technology nerd, the rudimentary hardware fascinates me
Your going to die like 10 years or smt
THANK TOY SO MUCH. I have been searching EVERYWHERE for a screwdriver to fit for my Wii and haven’t found a thing. I can finally open mines up and try to fix/clean my disk reader!!!!
The video output looks a bit murky in my opinion. Try replacing the composite filter capacitors, that should fix the issue
Ah the nostalgia. I still have mine which is in my closet next to the Wii U, but sadly I lost mostly all my Wii games when my parents moved here and there. The only Wii games I still have is Mario Kart and Sonic Colors.
DK Oldies would sell this for $275
Yeah

Great video as always. Now we just need to see the PS3 restoration and the 7th gen series will be complete. I don't remember playing on the Wii growing up but seeing ads for it, it always mesmerized me.
Full marks for a wonderful, relaxing restoration video. Top marks for your patience and expert work methods.
But as for Nintendo Wii, we still remember the good old 48K Sinclair ZX Spectrum.
Now, that IS giving our age away!! 😄😄😄😄🫣🫣🫣😲😲😲😲😲
Many Thanks
Wayne & Nina
That is an insane amount of screws.
@@Untitled9528 Ribbon cables are the devil I swear. Did a type c charging mod on my new3dsxl , way too many small ribbon cables , then put it back together only to realize i didn't plug one in on the backside of the mainboard.

If all of humanity had repair skills like this man, imagine the world we could create.
I've always wondered what a Wii looks like inside.
I bet that Nintendo supports the screw industry, too.
I love how gently you are to your projects.
A magic ritual on the channel? I am in!
Nice that you got a working game too xD
The screw industry is built on Nintendo

Love the video man I can't believe how well you refurbished that wii so good job on that. Although I noticed the noise filtering capacitors that are responsible for the video output are starting to go bad so you might want to replace them soon but not for a while since they still have some functionality left.
Cartman?!
The Wii has always been my favorite, it is so good that you fixed this one. It's sad to think that once these stop working, they get junked.
Love it. So calming to watch. Can't wait for more videos. Happy New Year!
I'm just so impressed and lacking words to express how amazing this is. Great job!
They are a LOT more complexe than I expected on the inside. Really cool. I had a lot of fun with mine back in the days.
The Wii looks awesome, good job!👏
Yeah, but what about the Nintendo Switch or the Nintendo Wii U systems?
@@AaronDawgzilla9055 the wii u is beautiful, I bought one recently and it's a really fun and good system when homebrewed
@@Senya_3358 You should give Xenoblade X a try. You’ll probably want to use the digital manual and wikis until you get the hang of it though, it’s pretty bad at explaining things but it’s a really good RPG once you do understand it. It’s also fairly different from all the other Xenoblade games.
@@Senya_3358 oh and also Metroid Prime Trilogy is only $20 on WiiU Eshop and I couldn’t recommend that enough.
@@Sacren365 Oh, thanks for the recommendations! The few games I've tried out recently are Splatoon and Mario maker, wonder why people used to talk about this console in a bad way

Odd Tinkering: Think again
Thank you for knowing how to repair the Wii console so that the console looks good and works and looks good. The console needs to be cleaned and washed. If you repair the console, thank you 😁
Happy New Year, Odd Tinkering & I love your restorations.
4:47 hot damn, he's throwin shade!
It is satisfying watching these treasures go from trash to brand new again
17:54 Oh boy, time to reinstall all 10,000 screws.
8:54 I'm glad I saw this video. I didn't know that. Now i'll be extra careful.
Again another great restoration.
Wow If I had that in my closet I would think that it's broken so basically your consoles are just really really dirty inside for it to work correctly and once you cleaning up really good it will work perfectly that wii is now worth like $200 fantastic job man 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Yes I do feel old.. Thanks for the reminder! 😂 Also Happy New year!! 🎉
Anyone else notice the surprised child’s face on the middle of the fan at 13:05? 😮

Bro cleaned one of my childhood game consoles.
0:12 Old... 3:32 Nice :). It's surprising that candles can work. 7:54 I can avoid being seen if I wish, but to disappear entirely. That is a rare gift.
