@@themonsterunderyourbed9408 I've worked with Xbox and PS consoles for over seven years. In order to make games for them, you need to dumb them down a lot (visuals, performance, control response time) to compensate for having a weaker hardware (this is one of the reasons why cross-platforming for most games is a waste of time). And in order to make the same games be playable on an even weaker hardware in the form of a handheld, you'd have to dumb them down even more. DLSS, FSR and PSSR is dumbing down and they have their limitations. Look at Wukong. If it were to truly take advantage of the U5 capabilities, nobody would be able to play the game with reasonable performance. I mean, sure, the game looks good, but they could've obtained the same looks on U4 without the need of dumbing it down. Fraser's analysis is quite good as to why SONY isn't interested in investing in a new "handheld". Even the Switch is not a true handheld.
I think I'm not alone in saying that Sony need to sub-contract in your services and literally throw money, resources and a skilled team of assistants at you . . . what you achieved here just on your own is nothing short of Incredible. 👏👏👏
I’m so glad this popped into my feed. What a real treat. I did an Xbox360 laptop back in 2009, but it was still a beast. Between battery tech improving, the PS4 slim looking nearly as small as the PS2 slim, and tiny HD screens with HDMI support, you really were able to make something amazing here. Great work!
@ I had it all documented with pictures on the benheck forums back in the day, but I don’t think those are up anymore. I removed the case, relocated the disc drive to sit next to the motherboard, made new copper heat sinks that were thinner but more surface area, added more fans, but smaller to fit a thinner case, I took apart a 19” LCD monitor and wired that to the console and then made a new case out of plastic sheets for the top and bottom housing. Wasn’t a macbook air, but was still thinner than the 360 console and could still be around in a backpack. No batteries though.
This is crazy man, absolutely loved it. This is the real PSP 2.0 which a bunch of folks from playstation aren’t able to figure out by now. God knows what else you can achieve with a proper team. God Bless you man.

Sony can easily create a behemoth like this, but thats not viable to sell as a handheld, its too bulky heavy and too hot even compared to something like an Ally X. It is obviously fine for a single hobbyist user to have made on his own. Not really feasible as a commercial product.
@@TerranigmaQuintet with the resources Sony has, i doubt it would be a behemoth if they really tried to create a portable device. This guy trimmed off an already manufactured ps4 board and frankensteined a bunch of other pcbs with it while Sony wont have to. @@valasett2202 Agreed. Steam Deck isn't too far off from PS4 performance. I basically treat mine as a portable PS4, just with PC versions of Sony Games. It plays God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn just fine. There's no reason Sony couldn't make something like this if they wanted to.
Consumes a lot more power than all the handhelds. The Ally and Legion Go cap out around 40w of total power draw at maximum. Plus then you have to cool all that and higher power draw means more heat which also means a beefier cooling system is needed. Plus the battery does have to be huge to get a decent play time out of it. Still it's extremely cool and I love seeing these modified consoles that fit inside a handheld
To be honest i'm more impressed on how you made a gluegun so freaking adoreable :D But in all honesty I know nothing about eletronics like you do , and I found this video mesmerizing. (Get gluegun in Toy story 5!)
Sony was stupid to abandon vita and psp-like project, they were so blinded about the portable future, i hope they see your video and realize their mistakes, never subbed so fast to a channel!
Last time they made one, people didn't buy it and now they're begging. Statistically, most people in these comments talking about Sony probably didn't even own a ps vita
@@WailingllamaThe truth is Sony didn’t have enough resources to keep both PS Vita and PS4 development going. That problem is the reason Nintendo only makes 1 system (which has essentially been true since the 3DS as they didn’t release hardly anything on the Wii U). Portable devices today require so much investment and time on the software side, it doesn’t make sense to do them and a traditional console anymore. Unless they’re going to run identical software (which could cause developers to gimp the more powerful console version to make the handheld work) or else software that’s generations old, it doesn’t work out. Resources aren’t infinite.
To me this should be the next logical leap in a console's life. You go from the base console to the slim to the pro and as that generation is nearing its end a portable version Because by then the tech should generally be somewhat portable. Amazing work 👍
@@malikkellyi don’t really think so, you would need to get a chip which has the same architecture and has the samed power while consuming way less energy and outputs less heat i love it when people do their own portable consoles, but those designs are most of the time to chunky and their battery life isn’t great, who really wants a portable console which is heavy as hell to hold for a long time and isn’t capable of at least 2-3h of gameplay while not blasting your ears off because of the fans you would have to design the chip with that in mind before

Great job!
Finally the full video, guessing if setting the resolution to 720p could increase the battery life. On a 7” screen 720p can look good enough Great video as always :)
Won't work. The last consoles to do that were the PS3 and 360 and that extra power just went to improving performance. The PS4 Pro also did this in some games but still the same concept applies, lower resolution just means higher frame rate
@@crestofhonor2349did you forget the cpu cluster? its not very fast and usually just barely hits 30 fps in most games, only games based on extremely optimized engines or just an old engine and with specific tech will run at 60 fps. and even that is rocky
@@krazykatz97_1 What does that have anything with what I said. All I mentioned is that in game resolution doens't scale with the display output resolution on the PS4 and Xbox One. Also a lot of games on both Xbox 360 and PS3 had improved performance when selecting 720p or 480p. This is because it freed up GPU resources and thus the game ran better. Not all games did this but it was frequent enough to the point where if you used a standard definition CRT or had a TV only capapble of 720p, you'd have better performance than if you had selected 1080p. None of that has to do with the engine. Also I never said it would run at 60fps, all I said is improved frame rate
Im actually surprised that someone made a portable PS4 console but i think they need upgrades * if could * 1. Powerful batteries 2. Better handling 3. Warning if the batteries are low 4. Better fan 5. Multi USB ( so you can connect a controller if you dont want to use on the handheld ) But look correct me if you already did it, and i gotta say this is good work 👏
You are blessed with skills and patience, Sony needs you or if anything you can brand your very own portable console with downloadable games. I highly recommend you take advantage of your skill

If they had released all the JRPGs they did in Japan in North America, it would have helped allot. "

Great work!
How did you do the 360 laptop? I wanna try something similar

Sony: ‘We can’t make a PS4 portable-‘
Also Sony: ‘RESTORE TECHNIQUE MADE ONE IN A CAVE. WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!’
‘…We’re not Restore Technique-‘
😂
Sony doesn't build true portables anymore not because they can't but more because they don't want to. The issue is the business rather than the technology.
Consider the Switch. The Switch worked for a few reasons: -1- Nintendo's always had a healthy handheld line even before the Switch with the 3DS and -2- Nintendo never focussed on raw graphical power as a selling point. Meaning even though the Switch is 2 generations behind the PS5, Nintendo's main games are stylized enough that they function fine at a PS3/360/WiiU level of power. And -3- Nintendo was already making games at a WiiU level of power with the WiiU. And the 3DS was weaker than the WiiU. So they don't need to rework how they make WiiU games and 3DS style games get a power boost. Essentially, letting them continue as normal and only support 1 system.
The Steam Deck has the advantage that it can access Steam. And if the user is already a Steam user, then their library carries over automatically. Valve doesn't need to make games for the Steam Deck. They just have to make things easier for other devs and improve Proton. The Steam Deck continues to get new games just by existing.
None of these advantages apply to Sony. Sony's MO with the PS4 and now PS5 is graphically intense games. That's why the PS5 is designed to have Ray Tracing and stuff.
And this is also why the Vita failed. The Vita came out in an awkward position. It was sold as "console quality games on the go". But it wasn't powerful enough to run most PS3 games well (see Borderlands 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 1). But making games for the VITA was still more expensive than making games for iOS or the 3DS. And those games, even if ported to the PS3/PS4, weren't on the level of Native PS3/PS4 games (see Assassin's Creed Liberation. Or how Gravity Rush and Tearaway were essentially remade for the PS4 version).
If Sony released a PS4 Portable, they'd likely be repeating the same situation as the VITA. Devs would need to prioritize whether to support the portable version and thus not make a "Full PS5 Version" as that would be limited by the portable version. Or prioritize the PS5 version and either skip the PS4 Portable or make a heavily downgraded version of that for it.
This is also an issue Xbox is facing with the Series S. The Series S is so much weaker than the Series X that devs have to choose between compromising X games to fit the S or compromising S games to fit the X.
Sony's resources are also already split between the PS5 and the PSVR2. Adding a PS4 Portable means Sony would need to allocate studios to make games for it over the PS5 and PSVR2 to keep it competitive with the Switch and Steam Deck.
From a business perspective, it's smarter to avoid a Vita/Series S situation and avoid making a handheld.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that had this thought running through my head!
@@FraserSourisThe Switch is significantly more powerful than the PS3/360 and Wii U. It’s basically a 7.5 generation console.
@@ZackSNetwork I wouldn't say significantly. Cross Platform games like Borderlands 1-PreSequel, The Assassin's Creed games etc run about as well on Switch as they do on PS3/360. Though some like the Assassin's Creed ones actually load much faster than their PS3/360 Counterparts due to flash memory being faster than Hard Drives or Discs.

Bro did what Sony thought was impossible
Sony can easily create a behemoth like this, but thats not viable to sell as a handheld, its too bulky heavy and too hot even compared to something like an Ally X. It is obviously fine for a single hobbyist user to have made on his own. Not really feasible as a commercial product.
@@TerranigmaQuintet I agree with you. People just talk out their ass these days.
@@TerranigmaQuintet with the resources Sony has, i doubt it would be a behemoth if they really tried to create a portable device. This guy trimmed off an already manufactured ps4 board and frankensteined a bunch of other pcbs with it while Sony wont have to. I mean they can use modern chips that are way more power efficient.Sure, it wont be a PS4 or 5 if they used a different chip, but it could be vita 2. With how well the steam deck is doing, people definitely want something like this.
This is the most impressive DIY project I've seen this year by far.

Sony was stupid to abandon vita and psp-like project, they were so blinded about the portable future, i hope they see your video and realize their mistakes, never subbed so fast to a channel!
If the numbers made sense they would of continued to support such things.
They don't do it because of business
Last time they made one, people didn't buy it and now they're begging. Statistically, most people in these comments talking about Sony probably didn't even own a ps vita
@@w花bI mean they did kind of shoot themselves in the foot with the memory card situation and all the promised exclusives they cancelled.
This is called Genius work. Dear Sony, hire him immediately 🔥
To me this should be the next logical leap in a console's life.
You go from the base console to the slim to the pro and as that generation is nearing its end a portable version Because by then the tech should generally be somewhat portable.

@@malikkellyi don’t really think so, you would need to get a chip which has the same architecture and has the samed power while consuming way less energy and outputs less heat
i love it when people do their own portable consoles, but those designs are most of the time to chunky and their battery life isn’t great, who really wants a portable console which is heavy as hell to hold for a long time and isn’t capable of at least 2-3h of gameplay while not blasting your ears off because of the fans
you would have to design the chip with that in mind before

Great video as always :)
ps4 doesnt adjust internal resolution according to display resolution unfortunately
