But I can use the giant screen in my Tesla?
Exactly what I thought.
Haha brilliant 👍
Very good question

No.
Google Maps about to ruin my day when it tries to divert me on a different route and I literally have to press the screen to stop it changing.

google maps auto updates the route if you don't follow the instructions
Yep true
Don’t worry it’s perfectly legal to touch your phone if it’s in a cradle. This advice is just wrong.
@@jamescullis7768 not always unfortunately
Cars have touchscreens built in now. This is NOTHING but revenue raising.
touch screen on my car doesnt work if the car is moving, dont know about yours.
Revenue raising for the government as it only goes to the treasury and is then fed back into the countrie's finances.Without it we'd have to pay more taxes.Don't break the law and you won't have to pay a fine will you?
@@davedixon2068I think pretty much all of the modern cars the screen works while driving
@@thomasspink3390 Stupid idea, if talking on a mobile is distracting how much worse is trying to sort out a multi function screen?? Just how many accidents do they want to cause, physical switches can be placed to be easily operated WITHOUT the need to look at what you are doing, or in most cases, taking your hands off the wheel!!!
@@davedixon2068 Some cars only have one switch, the hazard lights. The rest of the switches are moved to the screens.

Can’t touch your phone but can touch the big display in the middle of your car that pretty much does the same thing 🤣
So if I see a copper driving like the clappers, on his walkie talkie, taking his hands off the wheel, I'll report them. Thanks for the advice
But you and i coukd use radios while driving. It isnt illegal
Walkie talkies are excluded
What a stupid question 😂
Being on the radio doesn't take your eyes off the road.
Good use of ‘like the clappers’ not heard that in ages!!

This just shows how ignorant of the law the police actually are. And he's making a video on something he doesn't understand. You CAN use a mobile device so long as it is in a cradle and not being held.
The shocking thing is he’ll likely issue fixed penalty notices based on his misunderstanding of the law which is essentially a failure to be able to do his job properly and here he sits in judgement of us all
He specifically said "do not touch it". Which is correct. You can of course operate it handsfree via voice, but you can't touch it.
@@Nick_G7IZR no, that’s entirely incorrect. You can touch it as long as it’s in a cradle. This is what makes this video also incorrect
@@chunkyfecalbreakfast Really? Ok, I stand corrected...

@@TheNickBelIt's literally written in legislation.
can a police officer still use the 200 switches on his dashboard including his radio while chasing a stolen moped?
Yes, because they are trained to do so, last time I checked, checking your phone while driving is not vital to daily driving, nor is it safely taught how to utilise while driving during lessons. Radios don't take your eyes off the phone, that's the issue with smartphones.
When is it legal for an officer to use a mobile phone while driving?

So when are the police going to start enforcement against all these tiktokers live-streaming whilst driving! Eye off the road while they are reading the chat!
I believe the law is written in a way that allows you to use your phone in the car but you aren’t allowed to hold it, so the use of a phone in a holder is permitted?
I thought 💭 like you as long as you had the phone in a holder it was legal & lawful to use it. 🤷♂️
@@eugenevalerio7182it absolutely is legal to use in a cradle but this bloke will apparently still give you a fixed penalty

So you can’t dismiss a phone call but you can adjust the volume on your radio, wind a window up or down or look over you shoulder to do a blind spot check.
There has to be some sensible Lea way here if seen touching your phone with a single tap to say accept alternative route or dismiss a message.
The police guy is clearly not understanding the legislation or he uses wrong information. You can oparate your phone while driving but it MUST be fitted to a cradle/holder and can not hold in hand. So if you have incoming call, you can tap the screen. Thats all you can do. Tap the screen on fitted device. Not allowed to hold in hand. So not allowd to plug in your charger, pick the phone which is on the dash. Just tap the screen, to change station on radio, song, satnav etc
Ffs world has gone mad ! I listen to me and my good people around me the laws are getting like America soon cash will go and we are all fooked and controlled 🥺
The sat nav rule has been clarified so this is out of date
I totally agree with the laws on mobile phones and driving. Can you make sure to remind the police of the same rules as they aren't exempt from the laws. Just for the select few cops who think they are above the law. 😊

Google maps : faster route save 12 minutes accept?

And the third one is - if you are police, they seem to be exempt as well.
The law is an ass… look at all these new electric cars they’re making us buy? They’re like a computer, Sat nav, telephone etc. Loads of touch screen technology.
You’re more likely to be distracted by them than a mobile in a cradle… so where do we stand as drivers 🤷♂️ if we touch them?
Also no thinking whilst your driving.... thinking can distract you from driving and cause accidents
What if a navigation route decides to give you an alternative route and ask you to accept it? because there is always some work going on the.motorway
This policeman is talking nonsense. It is not an offence to touch the phone if it is not handheld, i.e. when it is secured in a mount.
Well as long as you have your gps navigation loicense up to date should be alright innit
West Yorkshire police website says it is NOT illegal to touch the phone or press buttons so long as it is not held, for example if it is in a cradle/mounted to a vent or windscreen.
So what if I'm in traffic and switch the car off.. I can technically use the phone right? As I'm not driving, I'm sitting in the car with the engine off.
Hmmm … poetic licence on his words “do not touch the phone” correct, if the phone is in the cup holder or arm rest you cannot pick it up in your hand as it is then a hand held mobile device.
However, if the phone is mounted in a fixed cradle next to your main screen then you can finger touch the screen for navigation. You still cannot type or look at any messages, emails or other things.
It's fuck all to do with you what I do with my phone on private property at the drive through.
Yes and no... It's private land but subject to public access so highways act applies.
Except cops. He forgot to say that.
So can't touch the phone when driving....what about android auto/carplay that is operating the the phone? I think it's very grey arrear 🤷
It’s even worse with cars that have heating/AC and other critical features in the infotainment - hey VW…
CarPlay / android auto is part of the controls for the car so perfectly fine.
You CAN use your phone if its mounted in a cradle.

I'm a biker, and I see dozens of drivers using the mobile phones whilst driving, sitting at a traffic light or in slow moving traffic. And not even once I saw a cop doing something about it.
I had someone behind me in very slow moving traffic last week constantly looking up and down into his lap for about 10 minutes, often with the car moving whilst looking down. I thought he was going to go into the back of me.

Not everyone can afford a new car. And the law is still stupid. You can touch and use the infotainment all you want, but can't touch a phone? It's absurd.
So I'm allowed to touch the satnav in my car, but not the satnav on my phone - stupidity.
You can program your satnav before you start but the same law applies as the phone. As its any digital device.
Most people will program their satnav before they start! On route it may be necessary to change route due to traffic - which I can do on my built in satnav, but not on the mounted phone.@@cryptosteve5377
No, you're supposed to pull over to make changes to your sat nav.
@@rp6523 I can legally touch anything built into my car, including the built in SatNav. My phone is mounted in the car when driving. If the SatNav asks me if I want to take a better route due to an incident, it is stupidity to suggest the driver should pull over - how does one do that on a highway or motorway?
@TheMrBitsy . Are you in the States? In the UK, you're not supposed to interact with anything that distracts you from driving. If there's an accident and it's proved that messing about with a phone/sat nav/radio was the cause, then you'd be in trouble.
Unless you are in the police then you can do what you want as they are exempt from the laws they enforce, which is very fair ,when asked about this they give the “ we receive special training!” I think they forgot the word “ needs “ where you insert that word depends on how you feel about them ?!😂
Great. So if customs officers at the port want to see my electronic ticket, I can tell them no, because I cannot touch my phone unless they provide burgers.
And in the mean time the police are typing a report when driving 😂
…unless it’s in a cradle/dash mount, right?
This law does nothing. Every single day I see countless people on their phones. The police may catch the odd one here and there, but the reality is that so many people still use their phones, and it is a big big problem on our roads.
But can use infotainment and car satnav. Does seem a bit strange, but don’t want get get points on license so have to obey
He deceived you by omitting the fact you can use your phone when it's in a mounted cradle.

Exactly..Uber offers jobs whilst moving and in order to accept screen gas to be touched 🤷🏻♂️
Still hasn't stopped people driving and using their phone as a professional driver it's seriously annoying watching people texting or calling whilst they are driving.
Yeah makes so much sense, maybe you should tell the rest of the police force that are seen using their mobile phones daily, it’s almost as daft as it being perfectly fine to use the big old computer screen that’s built into the car. Funny it always seems to be the police telling the public one thing whilst they do the opposite anyway.
You can use it whilst it is mounted
You can use your mobile whilst driving on private land, just like McDonald’s drive through.
Don't use your mobile phone while everyone else does, and they most certainly will
Everyone complaining that cars have screens are forgetting that Teslas dont have Tiktok and facebook.
You are just making excuses for illegal behaviour.
The british government is acting like the British government in v for Veneta.
I think you meant vienetta. Mmm nice. 👍
Right...and who is checking that?
I mean...who enforces this rules?🤦🏻♂️🤣
My opinion is that 1 out of maybe 10000 people gets done for it and make no mistake, the majority of drivers out there ARE on their phone whilst driving.
You can make as many rules as you wish...having no one or very little personnel to enforce those makes this (as many other things) a joke.
Good maybe for the so called "public opinion" ,not to sort the problem out.
This video is incorrect. The government website says you cannot HOLD the phone. It states:
“Using devices hands-free
You can use devices with hands-free access, as long as you do not hold them at any time during usage. Hands-free access means using, for example:
a Bluetooth headset
voice command
a dashboard holder or mat
a windscreen mount
a built-in sat nav
The device must not block your view of the road and traffic ahead.”
The 2 exemptions he is talking about is when you can hold your phone in your hand. Except there are actually 4 exemptions. Again the government website states:
“Exceptions
You can use a device held in your hand if:
you need to call 999 or 112 in an emergency and it’s unsafe or impractical to stop
you’re safely parked
you’re making a contactless payment in a vehicle that is not moving, for example at a drive-through restaurant
you’re using the device to park your vehicle remotely”
So why are you giving out false advice?
Says the guy, surrounded by gadgets and gizmos, especially the one stuck to his vest
Waze? Uber? Bolt? Kapten? All and any taxi drivers that use their phone to pick up customers 😂
If he is giving fixed penalties out based on this wacky interpretation of the law it's a disgrace.
If macdonalds is on private land its off and away from a main road...
I always use my phone whilst driving, almost crashed whilst going 90 on the M4 because of it
Neither should you using those 2 way radios is more dangerous than a phone
Would be nice if Police told the manufacturers of cars as they flag up things when driving with app connected cars.
Using a mobile phone whilst driving is not allowed except in the circumstances you describe, but touching it is perfectly legal.
We are thick beyond belief in this country.
That's literally wrong. As long as the phone is not HELD IN THE HAND You can use it.
A drive through is private land, not a public road.
They can’t catch all the joyriders, drivers with no insurance, taxi drivers that share a licence etc so it’s easier to nick the law abiding people who change the song on their phone
Yes you can. You are aloud to answer a call. Just like touching a screen in a car to answer a phone or change the radio... Or.. Flipping the switch to activate police siren 😏
You're seriously not. Just checked the government website. You're not allowed to touch the screen of your phone for any reason.
You can, the gov website is clear that you can use it if its cradled. This copper is misrepresenting the legislation
@@adun6899 the law is an ass… look at all these new electric cars they’re making us buy? They’re like a computer, Sat nav, telephone etc. Loads of touch screen technology.

But it's OK for the police to play with multiple screens and buttons?
Not exactly accurate, the phone cradles main purpose is to make and receive calls. The law says you must not allow it to distract the driver, whilst its legal for cars to be sold with built in touch screens and built in phone it will remain legal to use a hand held device that is cradle mounted. Again the law is the same as using built in eequipment, it must not distract you.
Says the man with 4000 buttons infront of him
You can touch it so long as it's in a cradle why doesn't this copper know this?
Should have the power to confiscate the mobile phone for those using it while driving
You can't touch your phone whilst driving yet nearly every vehicle today has a touchscreen satnav built in to it. Doesn't make sense
Seen loads of police whilst driving use their mobile phones… 🤦🏻
So i can turn the radio up but i cant turn off a notification off my phone whilst it has maps on 😂😂😂😂 ironic how i see police on their's all the time
I use a rotary telephone when im driving, so im actually safe to do so. 😂
Not true. From the government's advice on mobile phone use while driving: "It's illegal to hold and use a phone, sat nav, tablet, or any device that can send or receive data, while driving or riding a motorcycle." Emphasis on 'hold AND use' - not 'hold OR use'.
So as long as your phone is securely kept in a cradle, and it's safe to do so, you can still touch your phone.
So can I still browse through new Netflix shows on my built in touch screen display with android apps while driving?
If you do. you will be zapped by lightening.
What about changing any dials like fans and radio?
Do you hold the dials in your hand like a phone?
If this is true then do your job and stop ppl from using them while driving. Many MANY times I see ppl holding a phone to their ear while driving every day and nothing is done.
Mate most people across the midlands driving on motorways and urban areas with the mobile phones in their hands yet the police do nothing it’s a joke… then when someone dies it’s called a freak accident…
So if the law say you cannot use a phone , how do you get away with using a mobile phone/ radio when your driving??
Stupid law not being able to pay through the drive through, trying to get your wallet out of you back pocket is a lot more difficult 😮
The law literally states hand held, not cradled.
The law is that you cant do anything that would take your eyes from off the road.
Wow, tough laws. In Australia you can use your phone if it's in a cradle, but not hold it. With most cars these days you can control your phone with steering wheel buttons anyway.
You can in the uk too
Only a Government that is utterly stupid or tyrannical tries to impose totally impractical laws.
oh yeah, tell that to my friend who died in a car accident because the other driver was using his phone, she'll love to hear you say that if she still could
LoL.. he don’t have any screens in front of himself for sure no 😂
What about all new cars that have only touch screens to control everything 😕
Everyone and their dogs are on their mobiles whilst driving.
The police have no jurisdiction over drive throughs anyway. As you're on private land.
