One thing as a heavy motorway user would be bring back the hard shoulder. Smart motorways just don't work and the likelihood off having accidents is increased also having no hard shoulder means it takes emergency service vehicles twice as long to attend a accident or a break down etc.
Smart motorways are dangerous, yes they can close the lane but that won't immediately stop the thousands of cars behind you in that lane... All it takes is one person to be looking at their phone! BRING BACK THE HARD SHOULER!!
Well said(!) Demonstrably 'the' most dangerous thing to the public is not how loud their exhaust is, or what magic made up number for motorway speeds they may exceed or the darkness of their window tint and etc,... By far, 'the' most demonstrable danger to the public is/are the road pirates in costumes and their illegitimate establishment masters making up endless revenue collecting, nonsensical, counterproductive, unlawful and 'very' often profoundly moronic edicts enforced through threats of extreme violence,... And yet, if one reads through the comments, the levels of dissempowered and statist indoctrinated mindsets on display is simply baffling... They just continue to beg these illegitimate entities for more, and more of their en'forced' nonsensical edicts and fraudulent extortionist madness. Logic, morality, safety, intellect, lawfulness and just basic commonsense actually have nothing to do with it anymore for most, but (as you so aptly implied in your post,..), so long as they have the illusion of safety promised to them, they'll keep begging such illegitimate and dangerous entities for more, and feel falsely virtuous when they're doing so(!) I know that most people today do not know the difference between 'legal' and 'lawful', 'law' and 'statute', 'Act' and 'Edict' or the difference between a 'Driver' and a 'Traveller' or care about freedom but, at least It's good and encouraging to see that not everyone is so dissempowered and disconnected from reality! The very definition of insanity is to keep repeating the same process over and over, and expecting a different result... 'Einstein'
I think a Police organised car meets would be fantastic. A place where people can bring their cars to have them checked for modifications and not receive a fine but advice on how to make their vehicles road legal. So many people are avoid the police, but creating a situation where they can’t be affected but helped would motivate a lot of people to comply with road safety opposed to getting around it.
@@seemslegit6203 Maybe they do it on a sort of "mandatory check system" Where you take the car and they note all the issues without giving you any fines, but you then have a certain amount of time to fix said issues before they check the car again to see if they've been sorted
The best improvements to road safety in the UK should be a focus on standards, not just speed, some of the poorest driving I've seen is well below any speed limit therefore rendering cameras useless. Lane discipline, considerate driving all need improving 👍
That would mean police actually having to police, they are far too lazy for that. Much easier to nab a speeder, forget car theft, middle lane hogs, bald tyres or drink driving..
Oh mate total agree! Just today I was sitting in traffic waiting for traffic lights to change. One lane in either direction and a motorbike came from behind on the wrong side of the road. It's time this "filtering" shite was made illegal.
My idea would be to have a minimum acceptable standard for road surface conditions - that would make things safer for everyone by making things more predictable, eapecially for motorcycles.
See that costs money to upkeep, and government/Councils don't like spending money on poor people Roads in Rural Northern Ireland literally aren't even flat anymore, and by that I mean one side of your car is 25 degrees higher than the other side
@@prawny12009 so no repairs to utilities/services after the council have resurfaced? How eccentric. Perhaps ensuring the work is completed up to well enforced standards instead.
I heard it's our duty as motorists to stay up to date with changes to the highway code, maybe these should be publicised on all tv channels including bbc and sent out with road tax reminders.
Agree totally. I am fed up having to repair or renew alloy wheels and suspension parts primarily caused by the state of the roads. Not so bad at this time of year where the brighter days give you a chance to slow or avoid the road holes but at night and in the winter there is no warning. On a motorway you just do not expect to hit a pot hole or chewed up piece of road.
@@0QualityOverQuantity You're right. I had heard that in my area anyway they (local council) were considering the removal of some if not all speed bumps but right now I don't see any change. I agree about the chicanes ability to slow vehicles down in comparison to idiotic bumps. Don't know about where you are but in quite a few places in and around Greater Manchester there are a good many bumps that are so stupidly high ,it can't help but increase the amount of wear on suspension components if you don't happen to go over them right ...or even if you do... and like every driver would know your fuel consumption would obviously be higher because of those things the higher they are ,your speed has to be that slow ,,,especially if you happen to have "lowering springs or coilover suspension" ( which is your choice if you want that I know ). Surely in 2022 there has to be some better solutions/ alternatives to slow down traffic by now. They always struck me as a crude ,archaic method to have been thought up. Probably so cheap to put down years and years ago,but now I get the impression they became so dramatically increased in their numbers around the country in towns and cities that it would probably cost a relative fortune to delete from off the road surfaces otherwise they'd long disappeared but who knows
New to being in the U.K. and I have to say something that would help improve road safety is road maintenance. The condition of some of the British B roads can be lethal. I enjoy a drive on them, but when they aren’t maintained properly and have big potholes and bump it can cause serious trouble. I see this has been mentioned several times from just a quick glance at the comments.
Even things like hedge/ tree cutting to ensure good visibility into junctions and driveways. There are some roads that people will blast down with blind junctions. I actually avoid having to pull out of them myself and will plan routes around them because there is no safe way to emerge at all.
@@benrampling812 trimming of the over grown hedges would be a huge help for visibility as-well! Some of those B roads have speed limits of 60mph and I don’t even think I go about 40mph due to the driving conditions of the road!
@Stem Artin fair enough, but it’s also helpful not to have to dodge pot holes on tight roads, not too mention roads which have roots growing underneath that create mounds and troughs which you have to navigate while concentrating on the road 😂
Poor road condition really grinds my gears, because we pay so much in tax to drive our cars, so we REALLY deserve better. We have high fuel prices too, and now councils are talking about more tolls on urban roads. It is a money making racket, but we as motorists, see very little, if any benefit from it. In fact, poor roads are causing premature damage to our cars, making owning a car unecessarily expensive.
@@hermanmunster3358 I think that's what they want to achieve tbh, no cars on road. Yet the problem is the public transport infrastructure doesn't support that.
I definitely think its time to revise speed limits everywhere as some places are national speed limit that shouldn't be and others seem to be too slow for the surrounding area
Having a partner from Germany has given me a different perspective of UK driving. Our practical training doesn't really follow any teaching templates, but rather are aimed at just passing the test. We should have the practical training follow Germany's example with set modules needed to be completed prior to going for the test. 8 hours of driving in wet / adverse conditions 8 hours of driving at night 8 hours of driving on motorways 8 hours of city driving 8 hours of rural driving This would improve everyone's driving at a base level, ensuring that everyone has 40 hours of driving practice prior to taking their test.
To tag onto this, as someone about to take their practical test and retraining to drive I have been following the above and the amount of scenarios I have encountered has improved my situational awareness no end. Also the amount of people who are driving and texting or using their phone is abhorrent, in the last 2 days driving less than 30 mins I have seen 5 people on their phone / texting.
In Australia we have to have 100h normal driving and 20h of night driving that must be completed with a fully licensed driver before you can take your test
We should also IQ test drivers just to make sure they have something between their ears. As a Uk driver myself I struggle to believe that some of the drivers I see have jobs and made it this far in life unassisted
this would be insanely expensive in the UK with the price it costs us to learn to drive. not only that but it takes months and months to get a test booked and passed even with minimal hours on the road. I do however like the idea of having drivers needing to ride a small powered motorbike for a couple years, even if it is not realistic
Great advice on the video for some very common mods! My idea is to raise awareness of motorcyclists to road users. It’s very easy for car drivers to miss motorcyclists and I myself have nearly ( thankfully only nearly) been knocked off by a car driver not looking correctly. Something very simple I do with my daughter when in the car is play a game of spot the motorbike. 10 points if you spot it first, but the good thing besides raising her awareness for bikes as a future road user, is she wants to play the game in other peoples cars too, raising their awareness to look for motorcycles. If it prevents even 1 death, then it’s well worth it, and it’s easy and free!
@@bsrbck they police it in my town do it by useing the camera's on the D road in question and then pulling them off there have been several fines doing this it's called policeing and education
no police to police it my 3 road traffic mate all quot once they kept getting called to roberies, domestics, shop lifting all the bobbies on the beat stuff they didn't work they're way up over 8 and 12 years and years of specialist training to go back to being bobbies on the beat.
People doing 60-65mph in outside lane is what causes tailgating, at least on motorways. People's lane discipline and general driven is shocking in the UK though.
My idea would be to keep the roads maintained as best as possible this would cause less blow outs ect causing accidents and on roads that need repairing don’t just reduce the speed limit come up with a plan to improve the road then if necessary reduce the speed limit and look to review the limit after the road has been fixed. Love the content keep up the great work!
Definitely improving the roads and the hard shoulder to be brought back. I came back home from Australia in April and couldn’t believe the hard shoulder situations crazy and very dangerous if you brake down. Love the channel George 👍
The one thing that would absolutely improve road safety is to scrap any car found without insurance or no licence, no chances, no excuses, crushed within 24 hours.
It's already bad enough with the massive fine and points. I almost got caught out because in-between me renewing my road tax and insurance and them taking the payment my old bank card which I payed with went out of date and I had a new card, so when they tried to take the money it bounced. It was a month after it had expired that I got a letter from both on the same day saying they hadn't been able to take a payment and that I had been untaxed for a month, and the grace period of my insurance had run out a few days prior. I immediately payed for both, then a few hours later was stopped by the police because their system hadn't been updated yet, if the letters had come a day later I would have been done for no tax or insurance. So I'd personally say in extenuating circumstances you shouldn't be fined or get the points.
I've seen other countries have a countdown system on their traffic lights. I think this stops people speeding up to get through lights just before they change to red which can be dangerous.
To be honest I think road maintenance would help the roads become safer. I see poor road markings on top of that big pot holes that people have to Break or swerve to move out of the way.
This is specific to Northern Ireland where for the first year a driver has to display an R plate and are limited to a max 45mph on the motorway. My opinion is it causes more near misses than it prevents
It's dangerous doing 45MPH, because it means you'd have to stay in the left lane. Let's say there's an accident and so you'd move over to the middle or the right lane. Not only would you cause traffic congestion, this would also be dangerous for cars having to break at 70 to 80 MPH.
@@beastkaybyt2865 also for example in the inside lane a lorry with a heavy load goes to overtake but can only do a max of 60, people speeding slam on the brakes and cause a ripple effect of braking backwards
I'm all for modding your car car to a certain extent but what pisses me off are window and light tints ...... you get cars and vans with front side windows so heavily tinted its unreal then they tint the backkights so much you can barely see them at all
These videos are actually really helpful as a driving instructor , as I have a lot of young drivers who want to mod there cars , but sometimes I’m doubting what they are going to do legal or not , so I tell them to watch these on tik tok or UA-cam gives them a great insight to what they can and can’t do and without questioning me lol, thank you .
This is exactly what we want to hear.. a lot of people don’t know we’re just trying to help. I don’t make the rules but as a car fantastic I always questioned them so it made sense to ask someone that knows. Thank-you dean
The bonus is that the videos are created by an enthusiast who is involved in the modding community rather than a whinging old git that is simply out to moan about those noisy boy racers.
I like the way the constable gives tips on modifying safely and legally with justifications. He showed how you can mount the number plate to one side without impairing it's legal function.
brilliant video again guys. really appreciate the input from Owen, its so good to see the Police actively engaging to help us get our mods right, I own a Landrover defender which isn't heavily modified but many are and it would be interesting to see his view on some of the typical mods on defenders and other 4x4s, winches, bull bars, suspension lifts, turbo boost and remaps giving lots of power but lots of soot, etc..... Probably a bit late for the competition but i would like to see more traffic police on the roads instead of the DVLA Traffic Officers so key rules can be enforced, had a 500 mile round trip last week from midlands to Dorset and didn't see any traffic police but lots of people on phones and some very dubious driving standards.
Our legal Tesco (of all places) has a large gathering of modified cars most weekend nights. The police are always there, and always really friendly, usually having a fun time looking at the cars alongside everyone else!
Regardless to having a modified car always stick to the speed limits and don’t be competitive with your speed even if your mate is trying to drive faster. Keep the tint of your windows, I know it looks nice but you can do other things to make your car look nice, by not having tinted windows it will make things more clearer at night. Thanks for reading 👍🏻 I come to watch this video from TikTok, drive safe people 🙂
As a new driver I have quickly learned so much that I never would of learned till after I had driven for some time! I would love to see courses / post pass courses that teach new drivers about building the experienced driver sense with predicting driver movement and also possibly teach drivers on how to handle situations if they loose control on wet road which happened to me on a bendy wet road !
There are advanced driving courses of that sort already available and most driving schools will be able to point you in the right direction of look out for pass+ courses, IAM courses or RoSPA courses in your area.
@@cuddlybear_uk especially from driving instructors! My driving instructor at times couldn’t even remember what he had gone through with me and what he hadn’t … should be important and possibly law to have after you have done your driving test as it could save so many lives !
@@IDanny6654r I didn't do a after pass course but I did work as an EMT so was taught to drive as an emergency responder which definitely made me a better and safer driver. Learnt about C.O.A.S.T and Looking ahead to read traffic, having a safety bubble around me at all times, etc.
Refreshing to see a policeman being informative in a normal manner. Good vid. What about the reduction in light on modern bulbs/lenses as many main beams seem to be excessive in their ability to blind, especially country lanes when following vehicles can blind you for miles and from the opposite direction, or maybe a modern bulb which incorporates a 3rd switch setting which is less than the current main beam. Or an automatic sensor which dims the headlight to a pre-determined brightness so as not to blind when in the vicinity of another vehicle.
My idea would be to raise the motorway speed limit to 80mph. And review the law and highway code regarding cyclists. As they are dangerous and a hazard.
Make it mandatory to pass a motorcycle test and ride for 3 years before being allowed to take a car test. Riding a motorcycle massively increases your awareness of the road around you and that awareness carries over into your driving. Also, staged power outputs for new drivers similar to how motorcyclists have to comply with.
Improving road safety would be to fill the potholes as soon as they are reported, or have cyclists take a test to be able to ride on the road and must have plates
Few questions regarding cyclists and number plates. 1) Where would you mount a number plate on a full suspension mountain bike, with a dropper seat post? 2) What standards should the plate conform to? 3) Where will the 100's of millions of money needed to create new legislation, have new departments and staff to run the scheme be generated? 4) Do kids bikes need registration plates as well? If not, what age do they need them? 5) How will registration plates make roads more safer?
@@hardcoretam and also it will stop cyclists acting like the overgrown childish idiots they are when it comes to running red lights or going the wrong way/wrong side down the road. Not having a go at all cyclists. But there are a minority that should have their legs broken to stop them ever getting on a bike again.
I think giving heavy goods vehicles more priority on the roads would make it safer as there’s so many blind spots from inside the cab by people letting them by and getting out there way they wouldn’t be able to cause damage or injury as there isn’t anything for them to damage or injure
Actually the statistics show that Bus and HGV drivers generally cause less accidents and fatalities than car drivers so I would support periodic training for all licence holders along similar line as the Driver CPC that truck and bus drivers have to complete.
Rhe irher way round, should teach them how to drive properly and check all around their vehicle before manoeuvring. If you drive a bigger vehicle, you should be the one taking more responsibility. And if you are using more space, and others are not, you should be giving way, not the other way round.
Better still, reduce their numbers by sending more freight by rail - like most other first world countries do. The weird financial accounting used around transport in the UK weighs heavily against rail. I have to pay more VED per mile in my car than an HGV, which is bonkers.
Mine would be, to bring back the hard shoulder! And if I could pick one more thing, it would be for our roads to be serviced more regularly, some of the roads around where I live are terrible.
Great informational video! Keep up the great content :) Mine would be harsher punishment for driving whilst using a device. You see too many people driving using their phones. If you are on your phone whilst driving you are not paying full care and attention to the road and this is when serious incidents can occur. If obligatory disqualification from driving was brought in as the punishment for driving whilst using a phone then the rate of people doing it would drop over night. If people knew they could lose there licence instantly just by touching their device then they would think twice before doing so.
Thanks for the great videos so helpfully and really nice to have a local officer involved which leads me onto my option for road safety improvment:- more presence of police around the area. I have often driven around for days and not seen one police car, van, bike around. I believe the lack of this police visabilty and presence does allow for and even promote alot of illegal motoring wether it be tax,MOT insurance or car issues because people seriously believe they are not going to get caught down here on our "quieter rural roads"
My idea would be to make elderly people retake a test ( not as severe as the standard driving test ) but just to check that they are still able to see from a distance and can stay central in the road
@@CB-gg1sg Actually I just looked it up properly, it's not a driving test as such but at 70 you need to have your licence re-issued every 3 years and they ask medical questions about health and sight etc, if you lie it's illegal and if they consider it necessary the DVLA can have you tested etc to see if you're fit to drive
it is a bit late for the road safety, but i think that if your car is made to go fast and has added things such as a turbo, intercooler or even a swaped engine that you have to have a rollcage and racing/sport seats in that support 4 point harneses, i also think that no car guy would disagree with that, it is safer and looks cool
I have questions for 4:46. Are 3D letters legal and does the plate need to be reflective. I sometimes see modded cars on the road that have 3D letters and very Matt looking plates.
Reflective have been a legal requirement for vehicles first registered for at the least 40 years. Plates must also display the correct BS number confirming they have the required reflectiveness. Don’t know about 3D numbers but they must be the correct font & correctly spaced. The name & post code of the supplier must be on the plates.
There one BIG idea to make UK roads safer, use the correct lane. A three lane motorway has one driving land and two overtaking lanes, NOT a slow lane a faster lane and a fast lane. When you have overtaken a vehicle, move to the left ( Driving ) lane again. Frustration causes accidents.
My idea would be to introduce an online compulsary test every 5 years to make people aware of law changes, highways changes etc so that people, and law enforcement, are aware of what's right and wrong. For example, not everyone knows about the new "give way to pedestrians/cyclists" that was introduced recently. This video highlights the need for some sort of mainstream awareness.
You fo realise as part of signing your "Test Pass" certificate is a sentence that says you will "Read all updates to the Highway code" regardless and the considered is you'll buy each update every year and read it. I don't either BUT thats the understanding.
Thank you for a balanced factual video showing that the police aren't just out to get you and that they are happy with people enjoying their motors as long as the rules are followed.
As a heavy user of the motorways, my additional rule would be, no driving slower than the HGV's there is no reason for the HGV's to be pulling out and overtaking a car!!
Car makers should have automatic headlights in all cars, and make it a real chore to turn them off. I'm witnessing so many drivers on darker days without lights.
I am old enough to remember when drivers didn't use headlights in town where there were decent streetlights. You'd be angrily flashed if you had them on. That was because you could see the road ahead better with streetlights than with headlights. The best form of lighting is vertically downwards (eg streetlights) and the worst form of lighting is aimed horizontally towards you (eg oncoming headlights).
My idea to improve road safety would be make cyclists take something like a cbt or road proficiency test and a easy theory test just to know the correct way to use the road safety
I think most cyclists (who use the roads) will have taken a proficiency test through their school. I did mine in 1991. But it’s a good idea, not sure how it would be policed?
My ideas that can help with road safety are: Incorporate a more mixed approach tk driving test, Make sure the learner has been tested on rural, Urban roads, motorways and country roads, might mean tests are longer but will be better as if fully test a driver. Also first aid should be a mandatory requirement for driving tests as in the event of an accident it could save a life, and i think we can all agree that nothing bad will come if the majority of people know first aid. Also This again my opinion but i think every 15 or 20 years you should have to retake the driving test because there are alot of older people who would over time forget or get into bad habits. Sorry for going on so long but a final idea would be to have cyclists have to pass a test to be able yo cycle in the cycle lane and on main roads, It would better equip them for the roads and potentially reduce accidents? Thanks guys
15 to 20 years? Thats quite soon, more like once you get to 60 you should have to retake then every 15 years, 99 percent of the dangerous situations I have been in are because of old people
Great video, and great advice from Owen as always. I think it would be a good idea to limit young drivers cars to 100BHP or less for the first 2 years after passing their test.
I have crashed 2 cars both had between 60-80bhp. My new car has 170 and still going strong. Undoubtedly experience (lack of) played a role in those crashes, but you can still get to 120mph on 70hp. I don't see how limiting power will prevent accidents. But I can definitely see how teaching younger drivers to manage powerful cars and adverse road conditions would.
@@williamgreer4087 ill happily put my hand up and say I used to drive like an A-grade twat. I encourage any new drivers to get an IAM course as well as the standard test and think it should be mandatory.
This will not solve any problems and only hinder decent drivers or those with unusual cars for their age. Also fuck you for even suggesting it because not every new driver drives like a twat
My idea to improve road safety would be to build all new roads from now on slightly wider than the current standard to include dedicated cycle lanes. Hopefully this will be the start to safer roads for cyclists, and therefore motorists too.
@@SpeedTriple59 However, without them, they’re forced to do this anyway. Best to give them the correct areas to do so. Over time as this becomes increasingly more common and there’s cycle lanes in all major areas, I’m sure new laws could be introduced to prevent them riding elsewhere, enforceable by fine or bike seizure perhaps.
@@michaelgurd7477 Indeed. I gave up cycling when I was obliged/expected to use cycle lanes. They also encourage drivers to ignore cyclists. Eg at night see a red cycle rear light ahead - just ignore it and don't change course because they must be in a cycle lane (or on the pavement).
I think basic and refrence of importance instructions on what fluids go where under the bonnet dont now how many times ive had to show people to the dangers of getting it wrong
It would be great if the advanced driving test was subsidised/encouraged further. When I passed which is over 16 years ago now 😊 I found this invaluable as it gave me extra knowledge which I still use today and has helped avoid road incidents but it is very expensive for what is already an expensive world with Insurance and running costs. Even if local police forces could run something, I would have certainly taken note if someone like Owen had provided his insight. Second thought is that for those that do speed or are caught using Alcohol/drugs that they get the right mental health support afterwards (ideally before), people don’t intend to create any harm by driving when waking up in the morning unless they are struggling with something else in the background.
I don't know the best way to do this but we really do need an effective way of informing all road users of changes in the law. At the moment I think only a very low percentage of drives ever know what the driving laws are at any one time ... May be GPS or location trigger information like traffic alerts about changes could work ??
One thing myself and my dad agree on, is having to redo your test after a certain age e.g 60+ years old. I am always cautious with young drivers around but i have to be way more cautious with older drivers after a lot of bads experiences with them. Yes this will be annoying but if it means that everyone on the road is being safe, its definitely worth it.
Road repairs shold be regulated and there should be a standard to conform to. Brighton council have this habit of filling in potholes with something that really doesn't last or even do a proper repair job. Then they just have to come back and do it again, wasting more money
To improve road safety have local police forces set up events where you can take your car and they will see if it is road legal or not. Plenty of the legislation can be confusing to new drivers
I have a Skoda Octavia vrs in white can I change the colour to black on the mirrors and the boot spoiler without modifying the just the same Murrow covers and the same boot spoiler but in black
Great channel, I would say get new drivers to learn in all weather conditions as the car can be unpredictable depending on the weather condition even if you know the road.
I really like the video! All though I'm not living in UK, it is very interesting and logical to hear the Argumentation of the police. I hope that my next encounter with the police at generic car controls, the the policeman will be that gently and cool like in the video.😁
Number plates, although slightly offset are still “visible”. What you are trying to say is that offset plates are much harder for fixed cameras to get a clear, legible picture so we can fine you!
Mine would be make sure road surfaces are kept up to date just like cars have to be by being MOT’d. As a lorry driver there are so many points of roads with potholes, chunks missing or road surfaces dipped due to inadequate repairs.
I'm probably way too late to respond but I think heated windscreens, as seen on Fords, should be compulsory on all cars. I believe this is an important safety feature for all cars, especially in the winter.
Testing the driving standard and vision acuity in older drivers would be beneficial to everyone. I see too many drivers in my rural area who can’t reverse safely, can’t park straight, wander in their lane and drive so slowly that it frustrates the cars behind into attempting to overtake. Withdrawing the driving licence from those who fail to meet basic driving competence and handling standards will undoubtedly be upsetting for the driver, and I have been there with my own Mother, but I think that it is extremely important for their safety and the safety of other road users and pedestrians.
My idea to improve road safety: all modern cars fitted with day light running lights, when the front lights are on, the rear lights are automatically on too. I have lost count of the number of cars I see on a dark morning that have front lights on but no rear lights. It's dangerous and I am surprised it can happen. Volvos have had day light running lights on them for decades as it's Swedish law, but their rear lights are always on too.
Mandatory adverse weather training as well as teaching people how to handle traction loss safely. And for those learning manual a very brief overview of the mechanical functions of the clutch and transmission.
Drop in clinics run by the police/dvla for the car modding scene where mods can be checked without fear of fines or prosecution if they are found to be unlawful.
Even if you are caught 90% of coppers won't deal with traffic offences (you can be on them all day with the amount of ricers on the road). You'll get a VDRS which will only cost you an MOT inspection to check the offending mods are removed
Seems very reasonable. In Portugal we basically can't have any part fitted to the car that isn't a factory option (and even some factory options we can't) without having to get the car through some sort of test or inspection for which we have to pay for. Plus, you have to do it everytime you change something because that involves having the government alter the registration papers to include the "mods". No bigger wheels (even if they are from the same car but higher trim level), not even the mildest of window tints.
Actually liked this and am impressed with the info. My idea is get my police officers approaching Moddershalls in this was. Promote this info at car shows, get a stand and focus on the safety as well as the law.
6:11 I get the point of this, but some smaller hatchbacks have no bump stops on the rear. With a full load, my slightly lowered Yaris T Sport will scrub the tyres on the rear arches over large speed bumps, because there's nothing to limit the travel of the rear suspension. This is the kind of scenario where most cars would hit the bump stops.

I know that most people today do not know the difference between 'legal' and 'lawful', 'law' and 'statute', 'Act' and 'Edict' or the difference between a 'Driver' and a 'Traveller' or care about freedom but, at least It's good and encouraging to see that not everyone is so dissempowered and disconnected from reality!

Hahahahaha but then they couldn't rake in all that easy fine money
What a good suggestion
Would be great but this country’s too right wing to have that service for free
@@MintiesPoopinwhat ? This country js run by left wing named under right wing
Speeding tickets are just an easy money maker. Not about safety or encouraging people to change habits
Unfortunately not everyone on the road has a licence. That's why the standard can seem so low sometimes.
Oh mate total agree! Just today I was sitting in traffic waiting for traffic lights to change. One lane in either direction and a motorbike came from behind on the wrong side of the road. It's time this "filtering" shite was made illegal.
Is there somewhere you can submit dash cam footage when you have evidence of aggressive, dangerous or bad driving? From your cameras footage?
My idea would be to have a minimum acceptable standard for road surface conditions - that would make things safer for everyone by making things more predictable, eapecially for motorcycles.
well said, were constantly under observation to be up to standards yet the roads can be obliterated and nobody seems to care
That's a fantastic idea.
See that costs money to upkeep, and government/Councils don't like spending money on poor people
Roads in Rural Northern Ireland literally aren't even flat anymore, and by that I mean one side of your car is 25 degrees higher than the other side

that and start resurfacing roads hot rather than cold so they don't just crumble

How eccentric.
Perhaps ensuring the work is completed up to well enforced standards instead.
I heard it's our duty as motorists to stay up to date with changes to the highway code, maybe these should be publicised on all tv channels including bbc and sent out with road tax reminders.
Exactly good idea but then how would they make money from penalties ???
I agree completely it's a good idea especially the emissions tax
my idea would be 100% servicing the roads more. Too many potholes and terrible surfaces that chew through tyres and suspension components !
Brilliant, 100% agree,
Agree totally.
And sub standard surface dressing inatead of proper surfacing
@kyle
And while their at it.. get rid of those ridiculous speed bumps . Just sayin
@@0QualityOverQuantity
You're right.
Been driving for 39 years and this proves you never stop learning!! Great video.
8 hours of driving in wet / adverse conditions
8 hours of driving at night
8 hours of driving on motorways
8 hours of city driving
8 hours of rural driving
This would improve everyone's driving at a base level, ensuring that everyone has 40 hours of driving practice prior to taking their test.
Driving now is so atrocious I've just given up motorcycling after 35 years
this would be insanely expensive in the UK with the price it costs us to learn to drive. not only that but it takes months and months to get a test booked and passed even with minimal hours on the road.
Thats smart, im gonna try play that in my head whenever I drive now
My idea to improve uk road safety is stricter rules on tailgating. I think if everyone kept their distance a bit more the roads would be 10x safer.
@@bsrbck they police it in my town do it by useing the camera's on the D road in question and then pulling them off there have been several fines doing this it's called policeing and education

People doing 60-65mph in outside lane is what causes tailgating, at least on motorways. People's lane discipline and general driven is shocking in the UK though.
saw a car a while ago that had a piss gun on the back that would "piss" yellow water on drivers that got too close
I’m not tailgating I’m in the slip stream to help save fuel 😂
My idea would be to keep the roads maintained as best as possible this would cause less blow outs ect causing accidents and on roads that need repairing don’t just reduce the speed limit come up with a plan to improve the road then if necessary reduce the speed limit and look to review the limit after the road has been fixed.
Love the content keep up the great work!
Definitely improving the roads and the hard shoulder to be brought back. I came back home from Australia in April and couldn’t believe the hard shoulder situations crazy and very dangerous if you brake down. Love the channel George 👍
That requires spending taxes on proper causes. They prefer to use money to buy votes and put in offshore bank accounts.
This would be really nice to see here in the UK
Actually the opposite, they speed up to run the change to red because they know it's coming.
It has the exact opposite effect lol it just tells me I have 2 seconds to floor it
Amber means STOP if safe to do so. No idea why a countdown would help if people aren't already stopping on Amber.
@@devistationvll lol no it doesn't because you can't get.through in the time allotted.
I actually love this series... Its educating people how to avoid being ticketed, but still keeping the car modified
To be honest I think road maintenance would help the roads become safer. I see poor road markings on top of that big pot holes that people have to Break or swerve to move out of the way.
Roads are horrific in the UK, full of craters.
Glad to see the police stopping these threats to public safety instead of wasting their time pursuing dangerous criminals.
This is specific to Northern Ireland where for the first year a driver has to display an R plate and are limited to a max 45mph on the motorway. My opinion is it causes more near misses than it prevents
At 45mph on the motorway you're a moving hazard equivalent to someone doing 105mph when everyone else is doing 75mph.
Surely doing 45mph you'd have to have yellow beacons as your a slow moving vehicle
@@Legendoire I didn't even think of that. Great point! Shows how there's so many dangerous implications going at slow speeds.
Thank you for the reply , I also find out things I didn’t realise, I might be an instructor but I don’t know everything lol .
My idea is simple. Be friendly to car clubs and work with them to show safe modifications and see how safe the car groups actually are.
Our legal Tesco (of all places) has a large gathering of modified cars most weekend nights. The police are always there, and always really friendly, usually having a fun time looking at the cars alongside everyone else!
Exactly, now i get the reason for some of those laws
Regardless to having a modified car always stick to the speed limits and don’t be competitive with your speed even if your mate is trying to drive faster.
Keep the tint of your windows, I know it looks nice but you can do other things to make your car look nice, by not having tinted windows it will make things more clearer at night.

As they are dangerous and a hazard.
it basically is already. cameras and police dont care at 80.
Definately change the rules regarding cyclists .
IMO 80mph will never happen. It’s more likely that a reduction to 60mph for emissions and traffic flow will be enforced.
@@rich1ell traffic flow would be worse if reduced to 60mph.

I'm surprised the police know all these regulations, when they don't even know what the highway code says says about parking.
Very helpful and professional presentation - thanks chaps.
Mine would be, to bring back the hard shoulder! And if I could pick one more thing, it would be for our roads to be serviced more regularly, some of the roads around where I live are terrible.
This cop passes the attitude test.

That should be every 20 years.
it is a bit late for the road safety, but i think that if your car is made to go fast and has added things such as a turbo, intercooler or even a swaped engine that you have to have a rollcage and racing/sport seats in that support 4 point harneses, i also think that no car guy would disagree with that, it is safer and looks cool
Frustration causes accidents.
here's a bloody idea: get rid of "smart" motorways
Very informative, great content to give a professional and down to earth perspective on car laws.
What about people driving on a 50mph space saver just to get home, or get to a garage for a new tyre on their proper wheel?
I passed my Cycling Proficiency Test in the 1960s.....
I think most cyclists (who use the roads) will have taken a proficiency test through their school. I did mine in 1991. But it’s a good idea, not sure how it would be policed?
Paul I did mine in school but it’s not enough tbh should be taken as a adult
Another great video George, I think potholes need to be filled asap once it's reported, and bring back the hard shoulder on motorways.
Love your vids with the Sarge. I have learned so much from you both.
My idea to improve road safety: The only safe drink driving limit is zero.
I love how these officers were always flexing with Volvo wagons.. even 20, 25 yrs ago..
My ideas that can help with road safety are:
Incorporate a more mixed approach tk driving test, Make sure the learner has been tested on rural, Urban roads, motorways and country roads, might mean tests are longer but will be better as if fully test a driver.
Thats quite soon, more like once you get to 60 you should have to retake then every 15 years, 99 percent of the dangerous situations I have been in are because of old people
unpopular idea:
periodic training and testing
if implemented correctly, it would revolutionise road safety
Great video, and great advice from Owen as always.
I think it would be a good idea to limit young drivers cars to 100BHP or less for the first 2 years after passing their test.
I have crashed 2 cars both had between 60-80bhp. My new car has 170 and still going strong. Undoubtedly experience (lack of) played a role in those crashes, but you can still get to 120mph on 70hp. I don't see how limiting power will prevent accidents. But I can definitely see how teaching younger drivers to manage powerful cars and adverse road conditions would.
What an utterly stupid idea, I had 150 horsepower after six months of driving and was absolutely fine, just teach young men not to drive like idiots 🤦

@@SpeedTriple59 However, without them, they’re forced to do this anyway. Best to give them the correct areas to do so.
This is an EXCELLENT channel.... Exactly the same thing is needed for drone usage
I don't know the best way to do this but we really do need an effective way of informing all road users of changes in the law. At the moment I think only a very low percentage of drives ever know what the driving laws are at any one time ...
May be GPS or location trigger information like traffic alerts about changes could work ??
Thank you for sharing . I live in the middle of a city & have noticed that there is a huge spike in boy racer cars screaming around .
Yet the statistics tell a different story. 15% of drivers are under 25-years-old, yet comprise over 85% of all 'serious injury road accidents.'
@@onepalproductions Like i said, IVE had a lot of bad experiences, i didn't say anything about statistics
Road repairs shold be regulated and there should be a standard to conform to. Brighton council have this habit of filling in potholes with something that really doesn't last or even do a proper repair job. Then they just have to come back and do it again, wasting more money
Cyclists should wear bright colours and helmets x
is this for the uk ?
Any mods not informed to your insurance means your not insuranced.
This is superb - great to see the police at car shows supporting the younger drivers getting this right etc -
To improve road safety have local police forces set up events where you can take your car and they will see if it is road legal or not.
8:27 hold up, what that police car in the back???
Good video. I wish every police officer was as well educated
If sun strips can only be 10mm in to the sweep, but smaller blades on.👍
What are the rules and rgulations about size of wipers
From living in Central Europe it was great to see every one driving with head lights on.
in my opinion all stock fiat 500's should be illegal in the UK, horrible cars to see on the road, fed up of seeing them.
A few guys that have bought new Royal Enfield Interceptors have put black & white plates on despite being illegal on new vehicles.
Thank you very much , amazing content.
At least he admited that he was looking forward to remove your tint lol
My idea to improve road safety: all modern cars fitted with day light running lights, when the front lights are on, the rear lights are automatically on too. I have lost count of the number of cars I see on a dark morning that have front lights on but no rear lights. It's dangerous and I am surprised it can happen. Volvos have had day light running lights on them for decades as it's Swedish law, but their rear lights are always on too.
if i get run over the state of the car will not even be on my mind at all.
if you really want to improve road safety then remove the seat belts and put an 18inch spike sticking out of the middle of the steering wheel.
This is a fabulous idea… honestly this is great
Even if you are caught 90% of coppers won't deal with traffic offences (you can be on them all day with the amount of ricers on the road).
Great show guys.
Actually liked this and am impressed with the info. My idea is get my police officers approaching Moddershalls in this was. Promote this info at car shows, get a stand and focus on the safety as well as the law.
The cop was cool. Explained what’s illegal and why. Most interactions I’ve had with police weren’t as pleasant.
"I really wished it was illegal so I could take it off....", and that is exactly the sort of attitude that winds up the public!
Amazing video 😬
