Easier than I would have thought! My first thought was that something was leaking in the actual tub filler faucet, not behind the handle. Thanks for the video!
That makes sense. It just failed earlier than the shower ones even though those get used much more. It is on an exterior wall and the shower ones are not. Not sure if that would make a difference. It probably just failed early.
I have replaced 3 of these and every time using the puller the moen has snapped inside of the pipe. The house is 10 years old and I would say replace these every couple of years or be prepared to drill and use pliers. No shade on this video but it was all too perfect. I am sure there are several factors such as water hardness etc but don't attempt this unless you can have the water off for a few hours.
Thanks for your input. My house is 6 years old now. I have two other faucet handles that are the same that have yet to fail. I did already buy the replacement heavy duty cartridges but maybe I should change them sooner so that they don't break off like yours did. We are in Utah with very hard water. I plan to install a water softener so maybe that'll help. Did you use the oil each time you installed a new one?

You and me both!
The builder IE plumber did not assemble this core into the valve. It came pre assembled and he installed it whole. They wear out over time.
