Actually thanks for posting this video, I just performed this myself in Canada. The parts were $ 60.00 at Home Hardware, but they also made me aware of the fact that these cartridges can be replaced for free for the life I own Moen. They even loaned me the better removal tool (sign out) and the job was done in less than 10 minutes. Thanks for posting this, it really helped me to get the courage to do it myself.
Man you are amazing. I was very colse to call a plummer and pay $300.00 to replace the cartridge 1222 until i saw your video. I can't thank you enough. You Rock. ......Thanks.......
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEO! I just replaced my Moen Cartridge today. I didn’t know what to do or where to start after my tub faucet wouldn’t turn off. I started searching things on UA-cam and came across your video… You helped save me hundreds I’m sure. Thanks again 🥰
Thanks,I fixed my faucet inn the shower for under $50. I appreciate the detail and not endless joking / talking that wastes time, like most other videos. I did have a hard time getting the cartridge out from all the hard water in my system and had to borrow a puller.....
That’s awesome! Under $50 is great! So glad it helped :). I had to do it again in a different bathroom and had to ask my stronger neighbor to help get that one out lol.
Great tutorial. I have the same set up and my shower head began leaking 5 years after remodel. Picked up Moen part 1222 at Home Depot this morning and it took me 45 mins to complete the job. Hardest part was extracting old part; due to hard water here in Orange County, CA. Used tooth brush to clean up before inserting new part. Worked great. Thanks again for the step by step. Plumbers charge $250 for part and labor. Take you time and it can be done DIY.
IMPORTANT! The Lubricant is applied to the entire black rubber oval section on both sides - Not Inside The Holes - although its ok if some gets in the holes. Other than that - Great Video - Thanks!
Dude perfect video, I was able to do it myself in 15 mins. You have helped me to save plumbing cost the plumbers charge like 100$ and also having availability of plumbers. Don’t know why plumbers charge too much for such easy replacement.
That Allen wrench is 7/64. Another issue I ran into, when I changed mine a couple years ago, I got an aftermarket cartridge, Danco, I think. Trying to save a couple bucks. After installing it, I had a serious water hammer situation. It worked OK, but when you turned the water off you could hear the water hammer throughout the house. I then purchased a genuine Moen cartridge and problem solved. Perfect. Do yourself a favor and get a Moen replacement cartridge.
greets with fire yes, I had same problem with the shi$#ty Danco. It took me awhile to goggle and understand the water hammer issue. Replaced with the MOEN and it worked.
So thankful for your tutorial!!!! It was super easy to follow, the toughest part was taking the old cartridge out, it had been there for 21 years. You saved me a boatload load of cash!!!!!
You're welcome. I'm glad it helped you! This one was fairly new so it wasn't tough to get out, but a few years later I had to change one in a different bathroom and had to call over my strong Polynesian neighbor to help be get it out lol. He got it!
@@KeepinHomeUp it was perfect. I was able to go ace hardware and get the part first thing. I was in and out because I had the part number and the fix took no more than 15 minutes. The wife even gave her stamp of approval. Thanks again. Look forward to watching more. "liked and subscribed"
this video is short and sweet. I am going to follow it to open my faucet though it needs no repair. I must prepare before it breaks, because my plumber charges me an arm and a leg.
Thank you so much. My leak is fixed thanks to your step by step instructions. The only thing I can add is to inform the audience to close the main water valve (which I did at the very beginning.)
Thank you for ur complete instructions. We had a leak in our shower head, so I took it apart to inspect it and I notice that the plumber had installed it with that white plastic tool that comes with the 1222, I removed that and leak stopped.
THANK YOU! This video told me the part number I need and gave excellent step-by-step instructions. It took longer to go to the hardware store than it did to replace the cartridge, and the leak is fixed!
Well done video. I have a leak in my shower wall, possibly cartridge related. Gonna follow the steps you have here to see if it fixes the problem. Thanks for posting!
I came across your video and I must say "Thank You". You have saved me some serious money. I did it exactly the way you showed. Only thing is that my handle seems to be an 1/2 inch out further. I will retrace my steps as to what I did but I still say Thank you for the video.
This video was a huge help, Thanks for the guidance, I was so frustrated about having to call the plumber $$$, I picked up the part at Home Depot and the rest was 123, thanks again!
Looks easy enough, I could probably do it, but my bathtub faucet is old, so I'm sure I would run across some problems. Thanks for the easy to follow video.
The little screw inside the faucet handle is stripped and I cannot loosen it with the Allen wrench. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you for your help. This video is the best I’ve seen so far on fixing a leaky shower.
@RussOlsenVideo dude you are a friggin lifesaver. my Bathtub faucet broke last night (kept running water no matter what direction knob was turned) I was having anxiety thinking of how much a plumber would cost. but I calmed down turned my water valve off and followed your instructions to a T (after buying a new cartridge).. The only thing I had to figure out on my own was the position to leave my stem at. I think the position in your video (with the stem ridge at 12clock) is for ppl who want to use the knob left and right. i use mine in just one position (turning counterclockwise from off > cold > hot).. so I had to turn the stem at 6 oclock. otherwise this is a great video. only cost me 39.99 for a new Moen cartridge at Lowes
also a TIP for those having a hard time getting the cartridge out. I had to spray a little WD40 inside and screwing the little stem screw halfway into the stem . I used some vice scripts to pull on the screw which allowed me to pull it out after about 5 minutes of tugging.. but u gotta be careful not to bend the screw while pulling. pull straight back and out. dont go up and down with it or u will bend the screw
Unsure what to do and your help is greatly appreciated. Its a Moen Shower Faucet. The problem is the Faucet Handle is too far out from the Escatcheon. What do I do to bring the faucet closer to escatcheon? Thank you so much.....
Thanks for showing the process, I have loose faucet with inside cracked black price, want to replace the same, what does it call find in store ? Appreciate it
You're welcome I hope it helped. Not sure on your question, you'll have to google it or ask your local hardware store. Maybe You've already taken care of it.
Thanks! Moen website does have a complete video on the 1222 cartridge remove and install, too. I replaced the acrylic handle with this metal Moen 100657 and it works, except at the Closed/Off position, the handle can be wiggled left to right by a couple degrees, not firmly fixed. What did I miss, if you know?
Well this is the second go-around my cartridge I replaced only lasted a year but I went and bought another cartridge for $60 and followed your steps and replaced the cartridge and put it back together and it is still leaking what should I do now ?
Videos was really helpful. Changed the cartridge with ease. Tap takes a long time to stop dripping when we turn it off. Is that just water in the pipe or is there something we can do to improve this?
Any reason why my leak would have gotten slightly worse after cartridge replacement? I followed multiple videos and instructions just fine, my new cartridge is in fact pushed in all the way as my retainer clip seats back in nicely. But what was a minor drip is now a more steady light stream. What could have happened? Nothing leads me to believe I could have damaged anything in the process either.
Do i have to buy a specific replacement parts for certain model? I tried searching this up to buy the replacement cartridge but came a cross a few different ones.
Thanks for this video it makes life a little more easier, because it saves some money in our pockets. I had the same leaking shower faucet, got the 1222B and change it myself. But I still have like a needle point leak every three minutes, sometimes it stops . I've done everything you said but the two white plastic and the black ones. The plumber said I don't need those, because I a Moen handle. Is there any way you can tell me why it still have that tiny drip.
Watched your video great. I replaced my leaky cartridge with a new Moen cartridge 1222 but the leak did not go away, it is still leaking/ dripping What to do to stop this dripping. Thanks

Great video, very thorough. I have changed my cartridge twice, but it is still leaking. Do you have any idea why it is still leaking?
If it’s still leaking I’m not sure, sorry.

Videos was really helpful. Changed the cartridge with ease. Tap takes a long time to stop dripping when we turn it off. Is that just water in the pipe or is there something we can do to improve this?
It’s most likely just left over water in the tap, as long as it stops you’re good
