I've replaces my Moen cartridges many times over the years, but something went wrong this time. I wonder if you have any tips. When I tested it to make sure it was good, it was. when I used it a little later, it wouldnt turn off completely and is leaking. It feels like maybe a gasket slipped out of place. I slathered it with silicone lube during the repair. Any idea where I might have screwed it up, or what might be wrong?
I cannot possibly express my gratitude for this video. The Moen system appears to be an older style and I had already replaced it (incorrectly, I might add) and this video fixed my mistake and did it the right way with the right piece. I'm now so proud of myself and have a much better working tub faucet!!!
Thanks for putting this up! You are the only channel dealing with a Moen 1225 that has pointed out which way the cartridge goes in to get the hot and cold flow correct. So far no other channel has addressed that so I thank you. I put mine in backwards but your info allowed me to correct my mistake without total disassembly or even having to turn the water line off.
Excellent video instructions. My mechanism was frozen tight- couldn't pull out the knob to turn on the water. I used your video to do the replacement. All went smooth and took about 20 minutes. Now our guests can use the guest bathroom to shower. Thanks
Perfect. Excellent video work and excellent audio. You said exactly the right amount and you covered the topic very thoroughly. And your voice is very calming which helps lower the stress more than you think!
Thanks for the tutorial. I had my hot and cold reversed, but somewhere I read that you just rotate the stem 180 degrees before putting on the knob. That worked.
Thank you! I did use the puller and I put it in with the hole up but I turned just the knob 180 degrees and it’s just fine. The beauty ring is the stop on mine.
Yes anyone can do this. I just followed your video and fixed it in 25 mins. Saving video also now my fiancé wish he bought me a tool box with tools for Xmas😂
Thank you, sir! Most of the other tutorials only showed how to remove the cartridge with a puller... I REALLY didn't want to spend the extra money on something I'd only use once a decade! Your video definitely made me feel more confident doing this... but let's just PRAY mine comes out as easily as yours did!😂😬🤞
Here is a good article that explains it better than I can. www.theshowerheadstore.com/blogs/news/difference-moen-1222-1222b-1225?srsltid=AfmBOorMGSukNrfMpDdC4M4Uq9pK4ebC2fg_U5Cafk7dXnXji-2NYueF
This is perfect. I have to replace my cartridge again, and needed a refresher. Also have to replace my plate and handle. Just hoping it goes as smoothly as this looked. 👍🏻
Thanks, this came through in a pinch while fixing my mother in laws shower. I couldn’t figure out how to get the old one out. I gave it alittle twist on the body with some needle nose pliers and then it slid right out.
@ thank you replying so fast. I’ll give it a try tomorrow to a plumbing parts store, maybe I’ll be lucky, if not I’ll need to replace the valve and to get a new handle system.
well done. However, the water going hot in the right direction doesn't only depend on where the hole is. I put the hole right where yours was. Mine was reversed. I think it is because where the hole is relative to where the other structure of the cartridge can be changed at will. Both the inner structure and the outer structure can turn. Getting the clip in was very difficult and unclear. It would help to know where the clip is supposed to end up. Where on the cartridge does it end up. Lastly, are there both plastic and brass 1225 Moen cartridges? Thanks for doing it. I am a master at making things that look so easy, not be easy. ugh..... D
Your vid helped my confidence. Only issue I have is I don’t get hot water now with the cartridge install. I do have a screw (not shown in your vid)that controls hot water, perhaps I installed it incorrectly?
You may have some buildup of mineral deposits from hard water holding the valve in the pipe. Maybe you could try something like the one listed below. Upgraded version 104421 Cartridge Puller Removal Tool amzn.to/49Q2glT
It’s been long enough now that I don’t remember for sure. Just know that if you temperature is reversed, turn the valve 180 degrees an you should be fine.
is the one with pressure control interchangeable with this type cartridge? Im referring to the one which equalizes the pressure automatically so you always have constant mix of hot and cold even if someone flushes the toilet...
anybody have any tips or tricks on how to remove the Sleeve part at the 2:40 second marker. Mind doesn't want to budge at all and I'm afraid to hit cause it might be getting dented and not fit back in.
The more comments I read about this valve the less I think the hole positioning matters during the instillation. At least if it's backwards it's a simple fix to just rotate the valve 180 degrees. Thanks for the information!
Strange, I did mine with the hole down and it hot/cold ended up being opposite to how they should. Fixed it by switching so the hole was up. Maybe my shower's weird.
when you pulled out the old cartridge, the hole on the brass part was facing up, and when you installed the new one, the hole was down. And you said that the temp was correct. Does it even matter which way the hole is pointing?
When you show putting the hole in the stem down, you know that the stem turns inside the cartridge? So, how do you know if the cartridge is upside down? Or doesn't it matter?
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 I saw on another video today that you don't have to take the valve out if the cold and hotter backwards, just take the handle off and turn the stem 180°. I actually had to do that and it worked fine. Thanks for your videos!
I installed the Moen 1225 cartridge but I have a problem with the temperature limit not stopping, defective cartridge or how do I solve the problem to pass inspection, thank you
Make sure you install the metal beauty ring that goes over the cartridge before you install the control handle. The metal beauty ring is what actually stops the handle from turning too far, not the cartridge. I wish you the best!
Never push directly in on the stem.It will push out the back side of the valve. It looked like it still worked. But you should not do it that way , but other than that great jobNever push directly in on the stem. It will push out the back side of the valve. It looked like it still worked, but you should not do it that way, but other than that great job.
I don't know why, there could be many different reasons. Possibly not cleaned well enough prior to installing the new cartridge. Maybe the new cartridge o-rings were damaged in the instillation or came damaged from the manufacturer. Is the retainer clip fully engaged into the slot it seats in. I'm wishing you the best and hope you can resolve the issue.
Your wrong saying anybody can do this. I’m a plumber and I have to go to so many jobs were people try this there self and break the faucet back in the wall. Most people can do this if the faucet cooperates
Thank you so much for your expertise. I bought the 1225, but not sure it's the pull out. How can one know if it's a pullout? Your video is very good for DYIers
The 1225 cartridge turns the water on by pulling the handle out and adjusts the temp by turning the handle from side to side. The 1222 cartridge turns the water on by turning the handle only and adjusts the temp by how far the handle is turned.
