In this video I show you how I drilled holes for my 12mm individually addressable RGB pixel lights in white metal j channel. They are spaced out three and a half inches and I used a 15/32" drill bit. I got them at my local metal store: RJ8 metalmart.biz/trim-accessories/
You may be able to find them at a similar store local to you. I would have liked to have used some of this LG111 Square Base Trim: images.app.goo.gl/8r1Cno3i9y2Fo4KC8 to put it completely under the eave but I couldn't find any locally.
In this episode install the j-channel that I drilled previously on our house in preparation to install pixels lights.

Good video but I thought this my have an extension show the snake will go beyond the toilet flange right into the sewer pipe
Glad yours work. Just bought one this morning and it was the worst tool, I have ever bought. The auger came loose the first time in. The push button keep releasing the auger. The bad thing is Harbor Freight would not let me carry it back to the store. I do not support buying one of these augers!
The builder IE plumber did not assemble this core into the valve. It came pre assembled and he installed it whole. They wear out over time.
That makes sense. It just failed earlier than the shower ones even though those get used much more. It is on an exterior wall and the shower ones are not. Not sure if that would make a difference. It probably just failed early.
What state are you in?
Utah, approximately USDA zone 4a - 6 (locals can't agree)
It's easier to handle the burlap rolls that are 5.5" - 6" wide instead of anything wider. It's difficult to wrap tightly with wider pieces.
This is the way to do it!
thanks!
Thread Repair Kit: amzn.to/4ek9y1Y
They will straighten out. Those look good
Some of them did straighten out on their own. Some grew kinked and I've been working on mostly straightening them out.
Do the ones in the shade get any sunlight? I planted some 2 weeks ago, and I worry there may not be enough sunlight, actually.
They all get sunlight. The ones that are seeming to do the best get the least sun (could just be a coincidence thought!) How big are yours?
@dadx4334 that's very interesting then. I ordered mine from the same place you did too and they were about 3.5 ft tall from the base. I really hope they do well because mine only are getting afternoon sun for about 4.5 hours a day. Looking forward to more updates! Thanks!
@@sowedstory definitely keep them watered well
@dadx4334 I've been watering every other day for 30 seconds per tree x2 rounds and got a moisture meter to make sure I'm not overwatering. Hopefully this is enough.
I have a acorn and had it sitting on my nightstand for almost a month, then when I looked at it, it was cracked open, and the cap was off. Is it ready to be planted or do I put it in somewhere damp? No roots visible yet. Thank you for your help.
If it's a white oak I'd say plant it. If it's red, it needs to go on the refrigerator with a slightly damp paper towel for a few months. Likely it's a white oak and you'll see a little shoot coming out soon
@@dadx4334 sad update. It grew mold. And I was told to throw it away ☹️
Did the transplants from the neighbors garden survive?
Yes! They did. They didn't seem to grow as fast as the acorns though. I've found it best to plant acorns straight in the ground instead of in the cups. It seems the cups should only be used for a short period of time. It does make me sad when they remove all the scrub oaks for construction. They could transplant the roots elsewhere.
I have replaced 3 of these and every time using the puller the moen has snapped inside of the pipe. The house is 10 years old and I would say replace these every couple of years or be prepared to drill and use pliers. No shade on this video but it was all too perfect. I am sure there are several factors such as water hardness etc but don't attempt this unless you can have the water off for a few hours.
Thanks for your input. My house is 6 years old now. I have two other faucet handles that are the same that have yet to fail. I did already buy the replacement heavy duty cartridges but maybe I should change them sooner so that they don't break off like yours did. We are in Utah with very hard water. I plan to install a water softener so maybe that'll help. Did you use the oil each time you installed a new one?
@@dadx4334 as much oil as I could get on it.
There are zero "Precision Screwdrivers" in this set. These are only driver bits plus a few other accessories.
There is just one screwdriver that you put the bits in.
Double pronged are security bits found in places like airports, hospitals, and schools.
Nice. I did not know that. The inverted phillips cracked me up.
I think the magnets are a magnetizer/demagnetizer set.
yup ive seen their use
yeah, that would be great to magnetize the bits. I did not know it was possible to de-magnetize them though. Now I do! Thanks!
That looks super clean, I'm gonna pick one up
Right on! It's proven useful MANY times so far for us: amzn.to/3zkyxE1
Easier than I would have thought! My first thought was that something was leaking in the actual tub filler faucet, not behind the handle. Thanks for the video!
You and me both!
Great video and your daughter is so beautiful, but the Wal-Mart mirror doesn't come with brackets. If you can show us or leave the information, it would be perfect.
Hi, thank you so much. I added links in the video description
My effort is unfortunately larger
We have had Barn Swallows for years. This year they found a temporary roost lower to the ground on something I had set out there. I have cleaned so many bird droppings. When they discovered that temporary low perch this year, they left me a present Bird Mites!! I will be trying the bird spikes. Thanks so much.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
04/27/24. Great first step! Hilarious! We have a septic system in a five year old home and tried all DIY non-chemical tricks. I went to Harbor Freight this morning, bought the exact same tool and it worked in minutes! Great recommendation!
I don’t know how they were shipped that they are so bent. Obviously not good. They will most likely straighten once planted but since they are being transplanted the plant will put most of its energy into root growth the first year. I would advise that they be staked for the first two years anyway for protection. Don’t know where you live but where I am at in S.E. Michigan wind and snow will do the same thing to them until the single central leader is strong enough. I just planted 12 -6ft. American pillars and staked them all. Good luck and best wishes on a great choice.
Thanks for the update!!
You didn’t use the full 6ft. Read the instructions.
😅😅
So did they work?? I dont mind birds, but I dont want them where I am sitting on my patio, and I dont like the bird droppings all over and having to wash my pillows and cushions weekly.
Yes they did! We did have some try to nest there and they gave up and probably went to somewhere much easier.
Don’t work good. They were sitting on my spikes and started a nest down in them. They are an aggravating problem.
Sorry to hear, luckily ours are not so stubborn and must have found other places.
Car scratch remover removes scratches on the inside of the bowl, just take a wet dry vac and suction out all of the water and then dry it off with a paper towel any excess moisture, then just apply some scratch removal compound and it should be good as new...trust me it works I do it all the time
Did you do any cold shocking? I have read that they need to be cold for a few months before they will sprout. I have a bunch that I’ve had in my fridge that I harvested early fall. It’s been 3 months now so I’m about to plant them.
Red oak acorns do need stratification. These are a white oak variety and do not need that.
Correct!
Any updated photos? How have they done in the ground? Did you amend your soil in any way? How much were the plants?
I will be making an updated video in a couple months once everything has thawed out and I've unwrapped them. It was almost two years ago that I purchased them. 52 of them for $1,153.88 including taxes and shipping. That comes out to $22.19 per tree after taxes.
Have you ever had a flower in a hanging basket wilt over when it needed 🌊 water and after watering it straightened right up in 2 hours? These trees have been out of the sun 🌞 and in a shipping box for ? 2 days... Give them some sun ☀️ and water, mother nature will do the rest ✅
They did not straighten up on their own. I had to stake them the following spring. Right now they are wrapped in burlap under a snow bank. Hopefully they'll put on size this year. Some are about 6' tall, others smaller than they started out as because the first winter I didn't stake or burlap them and tops broke off from the weight of snow.
Wow what a miserable sod you are. They won't ever hit you. It's a great thing for kids to watch them building their nests from mud, with an adult explaining the process and letting them know that nature is interesting, that they help humans buy flying about all day catching mosquitoes, and other stinging and biting insects. They also in decline so encouraging them to rear babies and protecting their nest from predators is a decent thing to do. Or you can be like you. Hating and fearing nature, ensuring the species declines even further and rearing small humans with the same fear and hatred of nature. Hopefully there are enough of us who want to encourage them and *not* want to see them extinct. I found this video as I was searching for plans to make nest cups to attach to my home in order to *encourage* them. A pair nested in my portacabin last summer. I store my animal feed in there and they nested literally a foot above my head. When I needed to go in, I knocked on the wall and called "I'm coming in" and waited for one of the parents to fly out through the open door before I went in to collect what I needed. Of course I never looked at them or the nest and I hummed or sang a I worked , so as to reassure the sitting hen (predators are silent, so noise means you aren't about to sneak up). I was so proud of *my* swifts and was sad to see them leave England last autumn to fly back to Africa. I will welcome them back again in the Spring and provide a more suitable nest place for them.
They will straighten fine just plant them
I wish the would have. The following season I had to stake most of them
I tried growing Oak Trees but the squirrels dug them out. So I decided to grow inside. Watching how the roots grow, I'm in trouble. It became TOO cold to plant outside and The pot I put them in is only 3" high. ANY HELP? I have over 5 growing!😢
Sorry for the late reply. UA-cam does a poor job letting me know when there are new comments... You can always transplant them into a large cup or pot. I'm not certain that sprouting them in cups is the best idea. The tap root grows very aggressively but in a cup it just goes around in circles. Last fall I planted several on a bare hillside as an experiment. I'm hoping to see them sprout in the next couple of months.
I also read the extension report that they don't propagate easily doing this, but I am glad I came across your video. Picked up a bunch of acorns late September in Corner Canyon and now they are happy little plants. Thanks for posting this!
I'm so happy to hear! I had some sprout just by immediately putting them in a ziploc bag and storing in my closet, no water or anything! I kept some in my fridge and window sill as well with damp paper towels. Most of them sprouted. I've also read the report you're referring to, I think they mention that maybe because squirrels find them first? Not sure! They sprout easily. Let me know how they grow for you. I planted some last fall by picking, then immediately planting in the ground. I'm hopeful that they will sprout (if they haven't already) and grow.
Cool! Thanks for this 😊
How have your trees fared? At the end of the video you asked for advice. I also am no expert and am just learning. I read with current tree planting, at least as I am trying to study it for and ISA certification, it is suggested not to make any soil amendments such as the soil conditioner mixed in. Fertilizers seem to be suggested as alright, when needed but not soil amendments. It's suggested to let the tree grow in the native soil in your area right from planting. Regardless, I hope they are doing well. I think the scrub oak are cool trees. Thanks for sharing.
They are all still alive but growing slowly!
What kind of growth rate can one expect? I have a septic leach field I want to cover but not if i takes 10 years. I am at 7100' in NM with about 10" rain per year. I have native plants on the property.
So far they have grown very slowly but I'm afraid it was because I sprouted them in cups. I think they will do much better if you plant them directly in the ground so that the early and aggressive taproot can grow straight down instead of around in circles in the cup. They are not a fast-growing tree.
Hey brother I appreciate the video. Question for you. Do you just leave the acorn in the shell or do you crack that open too. Also, do you just lay the acorn on top of the soil in your cups or do you put a finger down and drop it inside there
Sorry for the slow response. I leave them in the shell.
I'm curious did it work? I'm so sick of their dirty filth and want to keep then away next spring
Yes, it works. I've seen them try to land there and one stubborn still tried to build a nest on them but was unsuccessful.
any video update to see what they look like planted? how many made it through the first year?
I will have to do an update. Right now they are wrapped in burlap and under a snow pile.
Most of mine arrived bent like this in early April from Great Gardens. I did NOT stake them, and they all have straightened up on their own.
glad to hear. I ended up staking my the next spring because they still were pretty bent.
Wow! You are the one missing out! Barn swallows are the most beautiful birds. This is the second year they have had babies at my front door. I love having front row seats watching them grow. I just hose off the patio. The parents actually try to clean up most of the poop. They are much cleaner birds than pigeons or sparrows. Bird poop is not a big deal like a gross litter box. I prefer the birds! :) Barn swallows have nested with us for thousands of years. My mama bird Shiloh understand her name and basic human language. They have never dive bombed me. I guess everyone has a different experience. I truly love barn swallows!
This would never work. Also, it looks horrendous. Swallows will actually and English sparrows, other bird species will use the spikes to build on. The spikes will make the location even better because it holds up the debris or mud and prevents if from falling. Much better options than this. Do not waste your money.
They have worked great for us. Nobody has ever noticed the spikes and I don't notice them either as I come and go. We did have one try to build a nest in the spikes last season but gave up after depositing a small amount of mud and straw. I'm sure other things work better but this has been great for us, and was super easy to install.
Agreed this worked great for me too
Mine were shipped bent also. I wish I would have asked for replacements. I ended up having to stake them all and they are still all screwed up 9 months later. It appears as of the full speed a hedge people grow from slim, little cuttings so they are just scraggly, thin, flimsy, little branches versus being an actual triangle tree like you see in legitimate tree farms. The American Pillars aren’t in big box stores so not many other options unfortunately: Mime are barely growing at all as well. How did your end up handing this issue. If you kept them, how are they doing?
I was initially impressed by how tall they were but they bent over the tops to fit them into smaller shipping boxes. They are doing okay now but the top broke off of many from snow. I have since staked them and wrap in burlap in the winter.
U suck.
Hey do u have a update on how they are growing?
They are growing at different rates. I will do an update in a couple of months.
This is my first time experiencing Swallows nesting having moved to a new location in Ireland. I never had it happen before so for me I’m intrigued by them and don’t want to disturb them. But the poop is seriously bad. I want to leave the current nest and leave them in peace. This house is a new build and I think maybe we’ve taken over their habitat. I will try these spikes but my house is crazy high and a ladder won’t reach! Anyway they’re nice little creatures it’s just the droppings that a serious issue
Just hose off your patio. Bird poop doesn't even smell. Cleaning up the dog poop in the backyard is more work. Please allow them to stay and finish raising their babies. Blessings! :)
@@joyfullife7778 I killed them in the end. Only joking of course I let them rare their young. I enjoy watching them grown. But one actually came into the house and it was hard work capturing it!
@@BASSER81 My mama bird Shiloh is one of the babies from last year. I took lots of pics and recognized her by her markings. She was also the last baby to leave the nest. It's amazing because she remembered me after flying so far to South Africa and then back to the midwest. She knows her name and she understands basic human language. I have dozens of videos fo the barn swallows from last year and this year. I need to just take the time to post these. Little birds have facial recognition too!
Can you give us an update? Did it work? Were they gone and never came back?
Yes, they left. This past summer one tried to build a nest in the spikes but gave up after deposited a minimal amount of mud, straw, sticks, etc.
@@dadx4334 Mine do not use a ledge, just the corner with no ledge
Thanks for sharing sir
You're welcome. This has proven to work for me.
