- Back in 2016 I went to Blizz Con for the first time. I want to have something to wear, so I built my Space Marine costume. I had such a wonderful time meeting fellow makers and seeing their amazing costumes.
The question I was asked the most was how did I make my foam helmet with the chrome visor.
Not only am I going to show you how, the pattern are available in my shop so you can build you own Space Marine helmet.
Here is my complete supply list.

EXACTLY what I'm looking for. The best How-To I've seen. Can't wait to make my own for our short film
Than you. I work hard to make these videos so you can make thing your self!
Awesome! Let's see the rest of the build. PS....I'm ordering down load for the orange space helmet. Love your stuff.
Right on!
You make everything look so simple man, great work.
It will get easier over time.
Just bought the plans...the son and I are planning on making this our project for Halloween. Thanks!
I am so glad to hear that. Please send me photos when you’re done!
That's so fascinating that is all made out of foam.......
Thank you.
You're an artist. That's amazing!
Every time I see you work it brings me absolute joy! Your'e an inspiration to us all. Thanks Evil Ted! :)
Thank you, as long as you keep watching I keep making them.
Awesomeness Ted. That alcohol tip and the plastic wrap is fantastic!!!
Thanks buddy, I learned the plastic wrap masking technique from Prop Maker Friend.
Beautiful, Ted! Always a pleasure to watch you work.
Glad you enjoy it!
the helmet template that you put out had been a game changer for me
thanx so much
your one of the few prop and costume youtubers that i watch that's still putting out vids ...so thanx again
Thank you for your support and for subscribing.
Quite awesome.
Sweeeet badassery! You are indeed a wizard, Sir! Thank you for being so awesome.
My pleasure!
wow !!!! that is pretty impressive
Thank you. You should make one your self.
That's awesome! I really like that helmet
I’m glad you like it! Now you can make your own.
The Martian EVA Suit would be a great build!
I agree, you should build it.
Ted is a living legend and I don't even think he realizes it
Thank you Brandon.
Ted keep the good work my friend!
Will do, thank you for watching and subscribing.
Really nice editing on this video. Clean voiceover and the background music really helped.
Thanks, this took a while to edit it to where I was happy with it. I keep trying to make next video better.
You posted this today and I was just at Spirit Halloween and got one of those visors!!! 😂 Cosplay fate
Excellent, there’s nothing to stop you now!
always awesome Ted!!!
Thank you for watching.
This is sweet, the Tek helmet from ARK survival evolved seems like a build that might be up your alley
SOO dope! Love it man!
Appreciate it!!
excelente, muy buen trabajo gracias por compartirlo
Very neat, Ted!
Thank you for watching.
I'd save the cut-off bit of the visor and maybe make a slit visor on another project. Love that fact when the red was forgotten to be done you still included it is the make video :-)
Yup, that's how I roll. If I mess up I leave it in the video.
Thats awesome man!
Thanks for watching.
This is really cool ted ! ❤️
I’m glad you like it, and thanks for subscribing.
Love it👍🏽
You know what I'd love to see, is a how to make a tactical suit as seen on the Batman suit in Justice League film
Now I'm gonna make Cobra Commanders' mirrored mask.
Very impressive! Thank you for sharing this! Let’s see if I can pull this off for my son’s Among Us costume🤞🏽
Go for it!
I went back and searched for about an hour until I found your paladin helmet, and I'm planning on making modifications. I've got it in a much thinner foam because I plan on using it as a prop helmet only. I am so happy so far with the base that the paladin helmet gave me, and now I'm going to use similar methods to as you do after 2:00 to make the rest of my plans come true.
Anyways... if you're interesting in potentially going to a con in 2021, might I suggest contacting the staff for Connecticon in Connecticut? They are looking for new guests, now that the entire cast of My Hero Academia has dropped out. It would be an honor to meet you, and you'd attract quite a hefty amount of fans with your builds...considering all the cosplayers I know drop your name at least once in any convo's that involve cosbuild foam!
Thanks for the info. Once the pandemic is over, I would love to visit your Con.
Lovely :-D
Glad you like it!
Oh and by the way you got a new subscriber in me Ted awesome tutorials
Thanks for subbing!
You’re the first and only person who’s channel I’ve subscribed to. So helpful! One question, though; when using your heat gun to heat the foam, do you use the high or low setting?
High setting. The hotter the better when shaping foam.
@@EvilTedSmith Awesome. Thanks for getting back to me Evil Ted!
while I dont like to do some things like you do, you definitely inspired me to make another helmet or mask myself! Thanks! :)
I’m glad that it inspires you.
Your space helmet is AWESOME! Have you made a helmet with a working pivot visor?
Not yet!
I saw Space Marine and got excited thinking it was 40k. Still really cool though!
Thanks!
Same
Still a great costume! love it. Still works as a space marine just sci fi not 40K
Thank you!
Now that I have played the game it actually looks more like a Destiny Titan.
Love your work mate. Now, how about that little screen detail on the back pack? You kind of glossed over that...
You mean the 2mm foam detail on the back of the helmet?
@@EvilTedSmith Nope, on the backpack - looks like there is a little digital screen there...
Great build! the rest of the armor coming out?
No, just a helmet.
@@EvilTedSmith aw, too bad
group cosplay of Among Us
can you see through the chrome visor??? I thought it was only for display
Yes I can.
I wouldn't worry too much about the space marine mistake, since you said you were at Blizzcon, to add to the confusion one of their games, Starcraft, also has space marines. 😁
Yes, there’s other forms of space Marines. I’m old-school and always think about aliens and the colonial marines.
This would be great for an Among Us cosplay
games workshop (the company that owns the warhammer ip) has actually no legal rights to the term space marine and that is why they have been renamed "adeptus astartes"
but if this video was from say 4-5 years ago i wouldn't have been surprised if it received a "cease and desist" because GW has been known to bully people for the sake of it untill they very recently barely dodged a multi-millions lawsuite in the us and chilled down
anyway the costume is awesome!
Kabuki Ted
Very cool! Has anyone done this with a clear face mask? And if so, where did you get the clear face mask?
Here you go. bit.ly/326obEG
@@EvilTedSmith Wow! Thanks!
Hello
Thanks for sharing your Art and experiences to us .I cannot dl any of your free pattern because we don't have any credit card in our country(Iran)
Is there any option that I can do it?
good luck

😮
I’m glad you like it!
What did you use for the lights on the chest?
They are a strip of LEDs. I had a friend make them for me.
Here's an odd question, why does foam has to be heat sealed and what happens if you don't? By the way cool video and build as always.
It helps the foam surface get smooth by heat sealing it.
@@EvilTedSmith Oh ok, thanks. No one ever said why but just do it.
Thoughts on scaling your templates for larger or smaller heads?
For larger heads use thinner foam, like 8mm.
@@EvilTedSmith my thought actually was to scale up for more like a space helmet with some banging around room inside. Got lucky and found a fake motorcycle helmet that'll do the trick so I'm filing this away in my mind for later.
Appreciate the reply and the great instruction!
Have you ever tried cosbond ?
Is that the product is like double stick tape?
@@EvilTedSmith that is the stuff
Do you know of any transparent paint for visors?
Travis McGee Tamiya and AK Interactive both make coloured clear paints for model kits. They will work fine for this application. Spraying them through an airbrush will yield the best results
I agree!
@@waynedaly1718 cool. I'm thinking of getting another chrome mask and then paint it to give it a different color but where you still can't see my face. I hope that makes sense.
Travis McGee understood completely mate. These paints are tinted transparent. They will cover the chrome face shield without impeding vision one iota mate. Plus you will have whatever cover visor you like
Why is it necessary to spray a sealer on it before painting?
I put on the clear coat after I'm done with paint?
@@EvilTedSmith The liquid rubber that's $80 per jug. It's black.
@@DavidALovingMPF102 Because foam is a pourous material; it absorbs paint if you spray it directly onto the foam. You need to put the rubber sealer on first to stop cans and cans of paint being soaked up
First!
Darn the second Soviet Union is on Mars
?
Evil Ted Smith looks very cosmonaut
Yes, I guess so with that gray beard of mine.
It... Reminds me of Among Us.
After you buy all the tools materials and supplies it would almost be cheaper just to buy an real space helmet. $20 for that flimsy plastic face shield.
