Adam's New Foam Space Helmet from Evil Ted!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 гру 2024
- Adam shares this beautiful sci-fi space helmet he received as a gift at SiliCon, made by master foamsmith Evil Ted Smith! Ted created this helmet for an indie science fiction film, and it has the hallmarks of a great piece of foam-fabricated costuming: internal lights and a built-in fan that circulates air for comfort and defogging. Thanks so much to Evil Ted for this wonderful addition to Adam's helmet collection!

You are so welcome Adam!
Thank you for all your kind words. Making helmets out of foam is what got me started in the Cosplay.
hey Ted, big fan!
Damn, that helmet is sick! Amazing job!
I am buying this and a few other parts to mix and match for a SciFi event in Oct of 2023 off to the EvilTed foam store!!!!
Evil Ted is the reason I’m still able to make foam cosplays to this day. I had given up foam fabrication years ago, as I just wasn’t good enough with the medium.
I went back to resin replicas and mold making.
Evil Ted showed up on UA-cam a few years after I had stopped with eva foam and truly changed the game and really helped level up my skill just from all the techniques he shared with the community. I’ll always be grateful.
Thanks buddy, your foam work looks pretty damn good to me
Funny enough Stealth you are the reason I started with foam way back like 10 years ago. Your pep file conversions were killer. Making a Doom Eternal suit for Halloween now using your helmet template(free handing the rest). I’ll send you a finished pic when I get done.
@@logansmith9437 The Perfect Halloween Costume. Doomslayer taking down all the Halloween demons. Looking forward to seeing it.😎👍🏻
I was super busy at my booth.
I wanted to go fan out like did walking past is booth at closing. I wanted to meet him.
Master at his craft!
The work that is able to be done nowadays is just great
This is amazing and wholesome. Everyone in this community has been so welcoming and Ted specifically is such a great guy. His work is beautiful
You get a pretty good fan radar if you go to enough events. I can spot you nerds from meters away
Remember, do not touch Kyle. Thank you.
Of course you can, Magic Man... It's just like how I can sense a Blue Player from 100 yards away...
Chernobyl gave you super powers?
Fan Radar sounds a lot like some of the situational-awareness habits developed by successful spies. Basically fully developed peripheral vision plus the suppression of the "look at the thing that caught my attention" reflex to where *not* directly looking at something you are nonetheless aware of and tracking is instinctive.
Skilled street cops have a similar ability to instantly track onto something that "just doesn't look right", even if it's not in their core field of view.
@@WKfpv Respectfully observe the Kyle, but do not touch the Kyle. M'kay? M'kay.
I know how excited he was to make this for you, and it’s SO cool to see how much you love it! I made my first foam helmet after watching his first video years ago. Ted certainly has been instrumental in the progression of many maker’s journeys, and he’s a great dude!
Thank you so much. Your foam skills have surpassed mine!
Evil Ted is one of the best people as well as one of the best foam makers in the world!
Thank you, Neil, but I think there’s a lot of great makers out there.
@@EvilTedSmith while maybe not the best maker(and you are still damn good at it), you are one of the greatest at sharing the knowledge for sure.
I’m very fortunate to have one of evil Ted’s foam pieces, it’s amazing and probably the most talented and nicest guy I know. Thank you Adam for showcasing his stuff
Thank you for your support!
I’ve known Ted for almost a decade. He’s one of the best dudes I know. He’s so genuinely excited to share his skills and has been a inspiration for many like myself. I was there when he presented you with this helmet. It was an incredible moment to witness and see the mutual admiration you have for each other. 🤗
I owe Ted. I owe Ted a lot. He's one of the reasons that I'm having the best time in my middle age. He's the reason that I got to meet you at Twitch.
Also, here is my lolth helmet. Same visor. Not painted yet. instagram.com/p/CivHU1-JVYm/
You owe my a drink Becky! We will meet again soon!
@@EvilTedSmith I'm going to get you something fruity, with rum, and whipped cream, umbrella.
It's absolutely beautiful, I work with all kinds of materials and foam is still my favorite to work with. Beautiful work and congratulations on the addition. Thank you for sharing, everyone keep yourselves and love ones safe and healthy and remember to SMILE 😃 😊
I love how much variation people can get out of foam. From leather to chainmail to metal to stone to wood, all from foam and paint.
I think the best I've done was bull horns out of spray foam and silicone caulk with layers of paint to give the right translucency of the striations of keratin on the horns. I needed 2 for a helmet and 3 of them happened to make it through safely to the finish, so the third ended up turning into a powder horn as an accessory for a later steampunk costume.
That is a gorgeous helmet! Never would have guessed it was made from foam without the prior knowledge. I love how it fits you Adam, the close proximity reminds me of some Hollywood greats - Apollo 13, Abyss, Alien, Avatar... and I just realized I picked Ed Harris & Sigourney Weaver films with all A titles. lol Congratulations on the new addition, she's a beauty!!
It's a beauty - the finish on the orange paint layer is top-class.
Evil Ted was who taught me virtually everything I know about foamsmithing
I’m happy to help!
I got to feel that helmet. It was Incredibly dense. A real solid build. Amazing work even in person!!❤
It is sooooo refreshing to see someone getting the most they can out of life and, at least visibly, not worrying about all the other BS!!!! Thank you so much for your exuberance and willingness top share it!!!!😊
Seeing everyone come to the Guildhouse after the con was awesome. So many good cosplays!
Adam that Mordred mask from Boorman's Excalibur is killer and deserves its own episode!
Evil Ted is awesome.
Thank you for your support!
Hemet is a town in Southern California. Adam is building a HELMET.
Contextually we can see beyond the split seem to discern the overall tapestry of the sentence.
Yeah! Give him L for that error!
The “L” is invisible…
I was expecting a diorama.
Now I wanna see a full suit build just for this helmet!!!!
Working on it!
I would love to see Adam and Ted make a suit like the metal armor
Thank you for Sharing Adam! That's a great piece of artwork!
As an aspiring helmet nerd I love this content. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the differences and overlaps between prop helmets, and functional safety helmets. Honestly I could listen to you talk about helmets for hours!
I have a few helmets I have made out of foam. One of my favorites is not necessarily a helmet, but does cover my head is my Lynel Mask from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
So cool how just the small fan inside the helmet gave almost a sealing sound effect as it went on as if it was becoming pressurized, which I guess it slightly is
That's wholesome af.
I've made several helmets using the skills I learned from Evil Ted and Bill Duran. Dragon Rider, Bronze Dr Fate (instead of gold), Marvel's Nova. I appreciate your love of helmets. It's great how far foam smithing has come.
I love evilTed he's taught me everything I know about foam crafting. I've been able to build my own Mando suit due to his UA-cam teachings. Such a great craftsman
So happy to hear that!
Met Ted at SiliCon this year (finally!)
I’ve learned so much from him and Bill. I’d love to share pictures of my helmets but I don’t do social media.
Thanks for saying hi!
It says foam in the video description and I _still_ didn't believe it was foam. Not until you squished it! That is spectacular.
And I see a helmet "collection" ... not sure it's a "problem".
Huge fan of Tested and 1 day builds. I was the fanboy chatting on the other end of the MJF event last night.
You asked for photos but UA-cam won't let me! Anyway I haven't made a helmet out of foam yet but a lot of the dimensional stuff on my Winchester House is foam. And I feel extremely honored that I actually got you to do a double take! So fun meeting you AND Evil Ted at the con!
I think most people send in photos on twitter.
Your costume was amazing!
@@EvilTedSmith thank you so much! It was awesome to see your work in person!
😆 What a great problem to have…
“I have a helmet problem.”😂 Thanks for sharing, Adam! 🥂
I'd love to see a show and tell video walk through of all of your helmets! So many incredible pieces and I'm sure lots of incredible stories!
Wow nice helmet this is awesome sir thank for sharing Adam sir.
Damn!! Adam gets the coolest stuff!!
That's a beautiful watch he's wearing.
I just watched evil ted UA-cam on how to build this helmet. Thank you for showing it.
Amazing work
Omg that is beatification of foam to max
This is incredible, there is no way of telling this is made from foam, even when zoomed it.
Thank you.
As someone who has followed you since recording Mythbusters season 1 on my dvr up to your lathe almost eating you, it's no surprise that you have a helmet problem.
That's a cool helmet. I thought it was going to hard, but nope. I'll have to check out his channel and see what else he's got.
Thank you!
I always thought they would defog helmets in movies like the way we did in the Army. In the military, the pro masks (gas masks) have two one way valves near the cheek and mouth. On the left (right if you are left handed) is an intake valve that has a vent/funnel/duct thing that forces incoming air to spray onto the lens to defog before its breathed in. The other side valve is for exhaling. Its works great and its silent, where as a fan would make noise.
You learn something new everyday
I would have never guessed that was foam by just looking at it
Evil ted is a fantastic prop maker!!
That helmet wud be incredibly awesome for just the right LARP (live action roleplay) settin
Riding motorcycles hones your peripheral awareness too - it's like a Spidey-sense.
Lights, Camera, Adam!!!
That is amazing and it lights up. I have an actual crusader helmet like steel or whatever it is made from and can be put on
That's awesome helmet
I really want to build like a cool mecha style helmet for cons one day and include a fan as well just to keep things nice and comfortable all the time while wearing it. Maybe some lights in the eyes and, if possible, an amplifier so people can hear you clearly when you speak.
Now is the time of year to gather stuff like that! Spirit Halloween has a $10 voice changer with a wired mic that can be set to just amplify your voice. I bought a few in case I mess it up!
@@thecorinthianguy Oh yeah! thanks for the suggestion, I hadn't even thought of that!
I've made a bunch of items based on Ted's patterns, and this helmet is next!
Glad to hear that!
Go interview ODEN MAKES dude is a legend
Loving it, thanks for sharing. 😎
Money means nothing to determination
My periphera vision is so poor I commony eave etters out of words when typing.
If I won the lottery I'd just become Ted 2.0. what an amazing thing to be famous for! keep it up
That’s amazing
speaking of things that go on your face i wonder if Adam still has that turn of the century optics kit. that was really cool.
Man thats cool I love helmets.
OMEGA
Awesome.
I got a CosPlay event coming up in a few months..I am Buying this pattern right now and making one of these!!!!
Wow, it's amazing!!
🔥🔥🔥
There's a knife that vibrates to a microscopic level(somewhere between 20k and 40k vibrations per sec),thing is that blade cuts so easily and so clean it's mind blowing I was wondering if u could make a supersonic katana or something similar
How is the suit from The Martian coming along? been waiting on that for years.
"I've got a helmet problem!" = not enough to store them all.
That is a nice hemet 😳
Hemet!
It's a beautiful hemet
Evil Ted is an awesome guy. I get to hang with him at Franks shop.
That was a good time!
@@EvilTedSmith it will happen again soon bud. Would be good to catch up.
I bet Evil Ted gives great helmet --- Dark Helmet 😏
There's nothing better than spacesuits and space helmets! 👨🚀🙂.
Seeing the Martian movie helmet in there, did the Martian spacesuit get finished? I saw the videos where Adam looks at the movie prop, but I can't recall many videos of a build.
The more you have to replicate, the longer it takes, and they had literally all the reference they possibly could - so it's still gonna take a while! There was an update video a couple years ago where they were working on it - it's a multi-person, multi-shop process, and with people moving their shops around every so often, it's complicated to coordinate
it is awesome
The craziest thing I ever seen in my life a cool helmet so cool🙂🙂😄😄🎆🎇✨🎆
Teachers do the peripheral thing to the millionth degree. We not only use our peripheral eyesight to observe and track several different parts of the room at once, but also use our ears to do the same. There are many times that Ive been aware of what was happening behind me - how the hell does that work?
As for how we teach new teachers how to do it... I have no idea!
Dey will wuv mah shpashe hemet!
That is a beautify thing.
The way he’s talking about keeping your peripherals early in the vid is a lot like riding a motorcycle. You need to be aware without being distracted.
Beautiful
Hey, here's a notion! How about a one day build to create a space suit to match the helmet?
Adam's love of helmets is slowly rubbing off on me I think
That is kick-ass!
Adam has a Spidey sense... 😄
Epic !
Cool
Hecking cool
a maker called kiaras workshop made an ironman suit out of foam, i think you met her at last years con.
That's awesome
Hemet?
What denim vest are you wearing and is it available in wax canvas or leather
evil ted!
Nice video 📹
Nice hemet bro.
