Your right arm positioning drill = one of the many building blocks you guys share to a solid golf swing, so privileged to have come across your channel a year ago and made the improvements I have thanks to you fellows!
I'm a five handicapper that just had my brain blown away by this video. I've been struggling trying to figure out why my backswing dips at the top. I go from hitting great drives to hooking it off Earth. I just jumped off the couch and am heading to the range to practice my right arm position. Thanks for debunking all the years of previous poor training.
I am surprised to see so many ungrateful comments here when AMG is imo the most accurate golf instruction available on YT, and they are also the most sincere in wanting to get correct information on the golf swing as they never try to hide anything from us unlike many other channels. 💪🏻AMG!!
Excellent video showing the trail arm. Can you point to a video which gives some insight into right palm / hand angle and related feels? It’ll be very uselful for people who either come over the top or over shallow the club on the downswing
As usual, useful content. That was an easy way to check if you have acceptable end of back swing position. I checked mine, and I have now the assurance that I have an acceptable back swing position/posture. Thank you for that. Now I have a way to check my back swing. Now I am thinking, that maybe I should do the drill to set me up correctly at the end of the back swing instead of the complicated usual way of doing the back swing.
Re the sidearm motion and full release coming toward the target (past the ball) rather than downward at the ball (it may help to think about release as a zone rather than a point, so that the release is happening "from the ball on through," as Byron Nelson used to put it), people tend to object by saying something like "but my target, or release objective, _is_ the ball." But it isn't, and that's exactly the point. It can be a real game-changer for people to understand that the actual target is where they want the ball to end up, so that you're releasing _through_ the spot where the ball happens to be but _to_ the actual target. That thing teachers say about "swinging through the ball like it's not there," instead of anticipating the "hit" in a way that tends to make you run out of energy and off the rails, distorting path and plane and killing speed by thinking of the ball as sort of the "end" or objective of the swing, works for a reason.
Outstanding information. I've always felt my poor right arm movement is a power leak. Maybe a future video using "Gears" would make this info even clearer.
Do you accept videos for analysis? I'v only played golf less than one year. Watching you guys has been a excellent way to improve. I'm interested in getting a analysis of my swing.
Ben Hogan says the right elbow should be pointing down to the ground in the backswing, starting at adress with the elbows pointing to the body... whats your take on that? Im sure you could describe Hogans moves better than me. Just starting reading the book and found this idea interesting. Would be interesting also how you look at Hogans book now with all the technology you use in your testing. Thanks for another great video!!
So much has been written and discussed about his book... did he do what he describes? Should you do what he describes? Those can be interesting topics for sure, but so much of it is based on poor video from odd angles. It's also important to remember that he did things to see the ball move left to right... most golfers already have that move down pat😊
@@AthleticMotionGolf Thanks for great answer! Yes, thats a very good point about photo quality and I get that it would be difficult to measure. That elbow thing made sense to me, cause Ive been struggling with getting inside and open in the backswing. Can you talk more about the push vs pull concept. Obviously if you pull a trailer it follows the direction you are going. If you back it up or in otherwords, push it, its much harder to steer. IN the meantime, just want to say that these videos are superlative. Thanks for putting them together...
So 90 at top a little straightening at waist high (magic move) fully straight just before waist high past ball? I see videos on turning right arm under at setup what do you think of that. I think it help me stop over flexing the arm on down swing..Thx
He hits it far because of the huge "runway" he gets by his trademark overswing. Many long drivers do the same thing. However, for most of us, it creates timing issues and other problems. Daly likely has been swinging this way since he was a kid so it is ingrained. Plus all the vodka keeps him loose. :)
Isnt a big cause of the pros right arm motion a result of the manner in which they "hinge" the right wrist? Amateurs are rotating forearms and cocking(radial) the wrist(as opposed right wrist extension).
Guys does the right arm elevate the arms? I lack Elevation and after doing that drill with trail arm 90 degree of bend with no club feels like the right arm does the evaluation. Thanks for your great instruction.
@@AthleticMotionGolf I pull the right arm in on backswing. I'm a 1 handicap trying to get more elavatuon for more consistent and more distant without much effort. I got into a bad habit. Thanks
I Wanted to see a video on getting club fitted and does it work. Also over the years I’ve noticed that my swing plane has gone from 1,2,3 degrees upright and it would seem that this exacerbates a slice. I heard from some golf people in the know that everyone would benefit from having clubs at a -4 degrees because your body will adapt to your lie angle. Any truth to this and anyway you can do a video on lie angle and if it makes a difference
I'm surprised at the elbow angles for pro golfers. Does Dustin Johnson have the same angles? I'd also be interested in an analysis of the movement of the trail elbow. Has the old advice of leading with the right elbow now fallen out of favour?
I would say good players just move athletically and most of what happens does so in a passive manner. However when in the learning phase the player needs to do most everything actively.
Good topic. I have a tendency to bend the right arm more than 90 degrees. I can easily avoid that if I go slowly, but once I speed up the backswing to something like normal the right arm just keeps bending. I feel like it is a dynamic issue, with the club and arms having enough momentum to carry everything too far and the right arm just collapses a bit. How do you go from successfully executing the proper move in slow motion to doing it when there is momentum involved, sort of like a weight lifter "throwing" a weight rather than going slowly? A second question is does the right elbow end up at your side (along the shirt seam) on the downswing or in front of it, more toward the sternum than the side? Thanks!
We often see that happen because the right arm stays too straight early. The right arm should have some bend early so it can resist that momentum later.
poe's ReLiC Matts backswing looks different because of how internal the right arm gets. If you took him to the top and paused he stays wide with the right arm (about 90 degrees)
Loved this message but sorry you guys decided to go alone and not use gears man (he’s my favorite instructor). My wife thinks I’m flexing muscle in front of mirror if only she knew🤔
I have no problem turning my right shoulder back and keeping my arm at 90° with a full shoulder turn. The problem is when I bring my left arm into it. Even if I get in that position first there’s no way I can bring my left arm up to reach my right hand. I wish I could do something more about my left shoulder flexibility. It almost seems as though my chest is getting in the way.
Hey guys, so my off season efforts to shallow my plane and get my driver straightened has turned into an extremely shallow plane such that I can't square up and my left elbow is breaking trying to flip the club head through the ball. Any tips to reverse this and steepen my plane without worrying about a slice? My swing is not functional right now and from video I'm way under plane.
@@AthleticMotionGolf I have a feeling im getting back to first shaft parallel at my toes, parallel to target line, all good there. Then when raising the club and hinging my wrists, im keeping a flat left wrist but im doing the 'waiter' with my right hand far too much. When i do the drill where you hold an alignment stick on the club and start your backswing so that at left arm parallel the stick is pointing to the target line, i am well ahead of that line, so my plane seems far too flat. Then starting to come down i think i start nicely, however i (or my body) soon realizes im leading with the heel and my right arm and hand flex, giving me a stronger left hand but it causes me to come over the top by shaft parallel on the way down, and then im hitting the ground much and coming across me. Something like that. I've always had a steeper plane, but thought i was wrong since my drives cut hard, it never affected my irons. Now after trying to shallow i think im flattening the club all together. I think i need to drill letting the club be steeper in the back swing, but then starting down get a bit of shallow instead.

So of course you don’t want to extend fully till in front of you with rock. But if the challenge was inbedding the rock under your feet , you would extend fully right under your feet.
