That take away he talks about at the end is so important. Both Nicklaus and Palmer insisted all of their careers that the first 2 to 4 inches going back is SO IMPORTANT. Nickaus even said it was everything. They never explained why however. But that is where the "connection" (arms, shoulders, & body) is established just as Rory points out. And if you do not establish it there it is almost impossible to get back. That's how you take your range game to the golf course. When you stay "connected" much less timing is needed in the swing. Get those big body trunk muscles to start it back, not your arms and shoulders. Drag them along for the ride. I like to think of it as from the bottom -up (just over my belt line), not the top-down (arms and shouilders). And you will develop a touring pro swing. It may seem "tighter" but you won't be shorter. You'll be both long and straight.
A lot of places have somewhat cheap (for golf, think 100-300+ per hour as a standard) where you can go take a bunch of shots and have them break down the exact moments those errors are occurring in relation to geometrical angles/lines for your body. Lots of ways to really get those last details down.
I've warmed up to this young man over the years. He is always decent, humble and always learning... His friendship with Tiger is also a revealing aspect of his enormous gift to relate. A true golf hero and is right on time to keep the game rolling forward.
I tried forever to fix mt driver and had numerous lessons and honestly I improved just watching how rory does his super wide takeaway and maintains that structure the whole.swing...it seriously helps so much...what a boss
Alignment and aim are everything. I learned from a friend who is a teaching pro. Why? Easy. My buddy told me to pick the shot first. Then commit to the shot. Set up set up set up. Pick s target close to the ball for aim. Then align to the aim point. Then " get out of the way of the swing. Let it happen"
Rory has a video on how he hits bunker shots. I now could care less if I end up in the sand, although GIR was the plan. Lost all fear. He just says it as if this is what’s my best preferred method and explains why even though he can do them all. In this Video Rory shows why he has it all and willing to share. Thanks to Coach as well.

Can someone explain to me the 3 knuckle rule and how it helps control the club? Im struggling with my grip and I feel like it is causing me to lose control of my club path when swinging, TIA
lookin down you can should see like 2 or 3 most knuckles of yur left top hand ( righty golfer like rory)... if u see like 4 knuckles u got a " strong" grip and mostly can will hook it go left alot... when rory young kid talkn bout it.. he's smaller weaker muscles not as strong arm upper body soo.. a strong grip w 3-4 knuckles showing makes it lil easier to hit hard stronger shots farther too... Really want to have more " neutral " grip... both hands work together not left dominate over yur right hand. look up " weak" grip see the opposite.. some players have that a weak grip.. can slice way easier w a weak grip. Goodluck
Excellent Video clip! Excuse me for butting in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is an awesome exclusive guide for revealing an effortless golf swing technique without the hard work. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my cooworker after a lifetime of fighting got great results with it.
He has taught him since Rory was..5 or 7 or something..so I'd imagine he has to keep things simple to teach a kid to play..then when that kid grows up he has simple thoughts in his swing.
Rory is.....fantastic, his incredible swing is a film to louvre museum, is perfect. Thanks for the lesson martin, and big hug to you rory, a great guy and incredible player. From argentina.
The connectedness between the arms and the torso is so important (well it is for me). As long as I make sure I feel that during my practice swings hit it straight and generate a lot of power.
wish I knew the bullet tip 30 yrs ago.. hmm just keep tee hgt same and upper body stand tall.. mental thought lower ball hgt... works he knows growing up links golf Ireland.. lil windy over there..think he knows
What I lacked is width in my swing because at the beginning of the backswing, I was keeping my hands too close to my hip instead of extending the butt of the club away & allowing space between them that makes my swing longer with a bigger arc. I was keeping them close in an effort to keep my arms connected for my body sequence while it's obvious that I should have been doing the exact opposite.
Thanks for the Video clip! Excuse me for chiming in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you considered - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (google it)? It is a great one of a kind product for revealing an effortless golf swing technique without the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my cooworker at very last got cool results with it.
Very good video. All of the great players mainly played one shape of shot. Fade - Hogan, Nicklaus, Trevino, Rahm, Koepka, and others; Draw - Jones, Player, Watson, Woods, McIlroy and others. Choose either a fade or a draw as your main shape. Never try to hit the ball dead straight. I mainly hit a draw with my driver for distance, and a fade with my irons and 3-wood for control, height, and stopping power. I shot a 60 on a very tough course that way. It works. Of course, putting is the most important part of the game. Learn how to read greens and how to putt, and practice your putting the most.
I cant tell you how many times I hit a good drive just to find out I lined up off the fairway and the ball goes right where I lined up... this 2 feet in front trick is def going to help my game.
This is a great video, learning how the best in the world strike the ball is important, almost as important as learning the Rules of Golf. Both can save you many strokes.
Well, we're flabbergasted at Rory's low, piercing driver swing in that he seems to leave the tee height and ball position the same as a normal driver but focuses on 'keeping his height through the swing' to afford a more shallow attack angle so the ball flight becomes a more bullet-like , boring shot. Pretty impressive! Not at all the conventional: ie tee it low, play it back in your stance, etc. etc.
Ahhh, width comment gets me. I do what they say not to do sometimes, makes sense now why I don't always drive properly. Interesting, i will certainly keep that in mind on my next round.
@martin if I was there I should have asked just before the start of backswing what does he do with left shoulder it kind of looks getting up like he is trying to show his back to the target from there
1. align body to clubface 2. feet, knees, hips, shoulders aligned, parallel to railway track that ball is on 3. arm and body turn back together as one unit
rory your a fabulous young man and we wish you a few more masters jackets and a few more us opens............and back off on the distance of your drives your making the big guys wonder what they are doing wrong
Such a missed opportunity to talk at a deeper level for golfers who can play but are looking for tips and secrets from the best. Train tracks? Alignment? Intermediate target are really such basic fundamentals. Few takeaways from this unfortunately - the 'Bullet' being one (maintaining height and shallower angle of attack - I'll try that for sure!)
Brilliant interview technique. The absolute awe for this Beethoven is obvious and deserved. Junior coaches can learn from the intelligence of this interaction
I’ve been trying to increase width, and my backswing and shoulder movement was not at the same time, I would backswing then shoulder rotation would come. Now I know!🤯.
Wondering when that was shot as Rory is using an M3 Driver head(5:24 of video). My guess either it was filmed while ago, OR Rory just likes that head so much that he has not changed to an M5 or even the new SIM, which he surely has access to right now.
Jack does/did same thing. Picking something out a couple feet from the ball as an intermediate target to aim/hit at. Iv'e tried it but can't seem to work for me. great video
Hats off to the interviewer. Perfect engagement with Rory / Coach, and steered the question path well and did not interrupt or over talk.
Didn't interrupt? We're you paying attention at 9:56? He cuts off Michael Bannon as he is about to demo what he is talking about.
Agreed
Seriously... how can you not like Rory... easy spoken, awesome golfer, who exemplifies class and the honour of the game...
Absolutely amazing that we get a free DRIVER lesson from Rory and his life long coach! Big thanks to Rory and Michael Bannon!
Rory is a class act. Always willing to share some of his skills to help others play better golf.

Rory's swing is one of my favorites these days.
the tip about the take away has helped my driver swing like no other tip before. wow

Did you ever have a good teacher or just not work enough on what you learned?
Why would 197 people give this video a thumbs down 🤷♂️. Best driver of all time.
Alignment and aim are everything.
I learned from a friend who is a teaching pro.
Why? Easy. My buddy told me to pick the shot first. Then commit to the shot.

Pick s target close to the ball for aim.

The absolute respect that Rory has for Michael Bannon is evident just in the way they talk about their journey through developing Rory's game.
Hands down my favourite golfer since growing up watching Tiger. Rory is a beast and constantly works on his game to improve.
