    I had an x100v then bought a Leica Q2. It pains me to say it, but the x100v is just a better camera. Autofocus is better. Low light/high ISO is way better. The X100V lens is stellar given the price. And 35mm lens is more versatile than the 28mm. It may not have the Leica panache, but at 1/4 the price, who cares?

      Your last sentence is gold. We always compare things that have a wide range price gap but when one is ¼ the price and brings joy, who cares.

    • @Chazyfizzlez
      @Chazyfizzlez 2 роки тому +5

      Strange. I went from x100v to Q2 and find the Q2 to be superior overall. Leica needs more noise reduction added in post given the mega pixel increase but the RAW files are sharper than fuji files (even using C1) if you down sample to the same resolution so you're not really comparing apples to apples on the low light capabilities. Auto focus is better on the fuji in continuous af but the leica is way better in single point af. Overall, would stick with Leica unless you're on a budget in which case the x100 punches above it's price point.

    I have 2 full frame systems, and use the x100v for fun yet some of my favourite shots and usability are with the x100v. I think I’ll always have one. Oh you should try the wide angle adapter I love this thing to get more of the surroundings in.

    Being a new father, I can’t bring my heavy camera gear with me all the time. Baby gear/essentials has more priority. :)
    I just love the portability of x100v. It is so light that I can even shoot with one hand and get decent results.
    The built in ND filter works in video mode as well and its pretty useful to make some outdoor family clips/videos. It’s not the perfect camera by any means but it’s a great everyday camera and I am picking it more often than my iPhone.

    To me, it's the perfect companion. If you get over the "bokeh banger standard stuff" you see all over Social Media and you start to appreciate creative compositions; you do not need full frame in combination with f1.4. To be honest, most "photographers" just rely on their ff gear and f1.4 and call it a day. There's nothing wrong with it for sure but as said, if you get over it, the X100V or the whole X100 series is amazing. Especially, if you like that 35mm point & shoot look!
    BTW: The latest Alessio Albi posts on Instagram are shot on the X100V and they are "out of this world".

    I definitely miss owning an X100 series camera. Had one a few years ago and it was great for travel but didn’t get enough use and even sold it. With the newer upgrades in current models I keep thinking about getting one again. It just felt so good to shoot on. I do think the R5 auto focus might have ruined me for other digital cameras though.

    I agree with everything you've said. I love my X100V and take it with me for everyday stuff, but it does suffer from inconsistency when it comes to AF compared to my Nikon Z full frame cameras, and I imagine it would be even more jarring compared to Sony or Canon AF. It's a balance between compactness and having to do more fixing in post on exposure and white balance as well, I find that auto white balance and metering are almost always off. For me I'm willing to accept the tradeoff, helps that the camera is so good looking too.

    • @TheZachMendez

    I'm sure you've also heard about the camera having the digital teleconverter which does add more portraity focal lenghts. Especially for you who mainly shoots in jpeg, the feature would make the camera much more versatile.

  • @CharlezRichard
    @CharlezRichard 2 роки тому +5

    I had the X100V and it's a great camera but it has many flaws that made me get rid of it. First, it's not as small as people think. The X-T20 and X-T30 is smaller and add the 27mm pancake lens and you have a more powerful package. When shooting 4k video, it overheats quickly. When adding a lens hood, your built in flash becomes useless. Now is it a good camera, yes it definitely is. But for my work-flow, I got rid of it and bought the older X-T20 instead. I prefer the older sensor instead of the X-Trans IV sensor. I own the X-T4, X-T3, X-T2, X-T20 and the GFX100 from Fujifilm. For portability, I prefer my X-T20. Hope this helps. Cheers.

    • @Zelanias
      @Zelanias 2 роки тому +1

      thanks for sharing. I have the X-T20 and consider buying the X100V. The reason is if its more lightweight and easier to put into the pocket. But I haven't put my hands on one and checked that out though. I am an amateur photographer. What I like with the X100V is the custom film simulations/filters which sometimes looks quite retro. I don't know if I can have that with my X-T20. Also, the upgraded sensor etc seems like it's better, and therefore i got curious why you prefer the older one. :D I currently have 35mm f2 and a kit-zoom. I find it hard to put the camera into my pocket so I use a small thinktank mirrorless mover 10 camerabag but it feels uncomfortable on my shoulder due to its weight which is 600 grams. :/

    • @CharlezRichard
      @CharlezRichard 2 роки тому +2

      @@Zelanias The X-T20 does have Film Simulations. It is missing one internal Film Simulation that is included on cameras with the newer X-Trans IV Sensor but you can custom program that Film Simulation into the camera and many more Film Simulations from FujiXWeekly. If you check my UA-cam channel, you will find videos on these Film Simulations using the X-T20.

    Zach, You are a diplomat! ;-). I have been obsessed with this camera for years. Owned for brief periods, the previous model. And purchased this new V model twice. Yeah, twice. Very embarrassing to admit. Your observations are the same as mine, though my intended uses weren’t as focused as your needs. The thing that got me in the end were the very frustrating number of times you’d try to change a setting only to find it greyed out (i.e, inaccessible), with no info on what other setting needed to be changed to make the first desired change possible, i probably watched two dozen how to setup youtube videos and invested days getting it dialed in. But then weirdly, there were times it would simple revert back. Grrrrr! Just couldn’t justify it given its cost. I wish Canon or Nikon would make a model like this, so we’d have an alternative other than Leica. PS, love the images in the middle of the video with your friend at the water’s edge and dusk falling over the ocean…Such pretty light! Craig

    While auto focus will never be stellar, there is one setting you should change from the default value if you shoot AF-C. Make sure you set the RELEASE/FOCUS PRIORITY for AF-C to “FOCUS” not “RELEASE”. “Release” will take a picture even if the camera currently does not have focus when in AF-C. This significantly reduced OOF portraits for me.

      @TheZachMendez  2 роки тому +2

      Great question! It's all of the above I think. I'm consistently happy with the look of the images I can get out of my canon camera. It becomes a tool that I forget about and can rely on. With Fujifilm, having used the X-Pro2 & 3, X-T3, and X100V, images are sometimes really great and sometimes a let down when I come back and review on my computer. They struggle sometimes in HDR situations and with AF. Just my experience though. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

    I'm selling my x100v: I bought it hoping to replace my PenF for better results but it felt a lot short. The Raw files are certainly more flexible in extreme conditions but the camera has severe limitations and it can do A LOT less as a tool then Olympus. The colours takes me a lot more work to edit where I like them and both autofocus and lack of IBIS are a big let down. I also hate that images in the EVF and the back screen are completely different in colours.
    I thought I could enjoy the retro dials and the optical viewfinder, but it's just a travesty. It's just an electronic camera that makes working with controls much harder, and this from someone who had been a film shooter and still is. Fuji has A LOT to learn from Leica about how to offer an "analog" shooting experience.
    The biggest let down (I got hyped by less then honest reviewers) was the build quality of this camera and the flashy materials which actually feel cheap, fragile and hollow in the hands.
    I tried using the camera for some full body photoshoot, but the terrible autofocus made me regret it and long for the snappyness of my Pen F even with its contrast autofocus.
    For more serious jobs I use Canon, so I was not expecting a "frontline" tool but even as a convenient carry on, it fell short and I never grew to like the experience of shooting Fuji.

Regarding the X-T5: If you want to use the camera mostly with a 35mm lens (ff equivalent), get the X100V because of the size, weight and the other nice features --> leaf shutter, flash, build-in ND filter, ... long story short: If you really want to change lenses, take something else. If you love 35mm, take the X100V!

    Thanks for being upfront about the pros and cons of the 100v. Sometimes I think people expect too much from compact cameras.

      The dual strap is the holdfast moneymaker. The other is just a simple strap with the peak design anchors attached. Thanks for watching! :)

    I had the f and jumped to full frame sony a7iii. love the better quality of images BUT the shooting experience is dull. i dont pick it up anywhere near as much as the 100f. it doesnt fill my soul.

    The Fujifilm X100V is not a portrait camera; it is a go-everywhere camera which can also shoot portraits. It isn't intended as a primary camera for the studio and other controlled environments, rather it is an incredible travel/documentary/street camera for documenting unscripted moments of life around the world. For that, it is pretty much perfect.

    A Fujifilm body with their 90mm F2 lens would be an excellent portrait lens. At 10 ft you'd get a depth of field of about 1 ft in focus, and if you need shallower, then just step in closer. Moving to 6 ft would drop that to a bit over an inch, and if you need shallower still, then you should probably re-evaluate your hobby, as the subject is not the depth of field, it's the person you are taking the portrait of.
