The video at the end was enough to convince me to buy this camera as a beginner. Not sure what it is, but the photos this camera produces are so nostalgic looking it's almost like it captures the energy of the time and place.
Ahhh yes! Thank you for the kind words, it’s always so much more than the camera gear. Though it’s fun talking about this stuff and there’s nuance, if it doesn’t give me what I want then it’s not for me.
I feel the same about the photos, there’s depth there that I don’t get from other cameras. Maybe it’s the way this camera allows me to shoot and how it inspires me
It's wonderful that you have such a long "photo" section in your video -- the best part!
Thank you! My favorite too, so many fun memories
I want this camera so bad, thanks for making this Thomas!
It’s so worth it! I loved it so much haha
Thanks dude!
Awesome video. Reala ace looks fantastic, pre ordered mine, looking forward to it arriving.
thanks! heck yeah, stoked for ya!
Reala ace looks really nice, I haven't seen much about that til now
Absolutely wonderful. Could watch this over & over
thank you!
i bought this camera half a year ago and to this day i absolutely love it!!
Heck yeah! It’s a solid one
oh man... stoked for this!
yew!
Your thoughts are exactly where I’ve been heading. The photos are so much better than the phone but that doesn’t mean I want to be a professional photographer. I just want to shoot life and enjoy the hobby of photography. Thanks for this
incredible, this is a great option then! so fun to document life and bring things back to what matters ya know
This is beautiful. Thank you
Thank you! Of course
Got me feeling some type of way with the photos at the end. ❤
Subbed!
so rad! that's what it's all about. so fun looking back at all of the photos over the years
I hope the next x100 version will tackle some of your points. I agree on the size, really wish it was a tad smaller. Image stabilization for at least occasional videos are an absolute must in my opinion as well
Same! I actually had a section about my wishlist but pulled it bc it got long haha. Ibis is a must forsure
It really does seem like the next one will have IBIS, but that'll only make it bigger unfortunately. Would be sooo great for them to get a bit smaller!
Gotta ask for a video covering your thoughts on the upcoming x100vi in 10 days, vs the already out xt5 with the 27mm f2.8. Really hoping the new x100 has better resolution EVF/OVF and keeps the internal ND filter, the addition of IBIS and that 40mp sensor should be sweet though.
Definitely! I’m planning on filming “my wishlist for the Fuji x100vi” in the next few days!
Great video, love your photos. Have you also considered the Sony ZV-E1? Small size and you can shoot videos and photos. BTW your link in description into shop isn't working.
Thank you! Funny enough I am, mostly for a UA-cam b cam
Thanks! fixed now

I rented an m11 and shot it along side the x1ooV and xt3... I have a couple of Leica lenses. I really like the modernization that the M11 brought to Leicas, and I love the M11p's Content Authentication feature, and I really geeked out with the rangefinder shooting experience.
However, just be aware that Leicas are just as susceptible to digital rot as any other digital camera, making film Leicas heirloom quality non existent. Imaging if film cameras made proprietary film loaders that suffered obsolescence like digital camera batteries... exactly...
Also Leica blows highlights like crazy, making the quality of the photos, and lacks a solution like fuji's DR400 mode. Plus at high ISOs, fuji has its unique grain, Leicas have a color noise pattern onto of the typical luminance noise.
Also Lucia's hight MP tends to outmatch its processor, so its start up time is from two decades ago.
Don;t get me wrong, I love Leicas. I wish they had a 25 mp high speed High ISO demon like the SL2-s and fuji's dr400 feature to preserve highlight detail. it would be a perfect camera.
New X100VI seems to solve a lot of the issues you had, which are my issues too as a hybrid shooter. I want one camera for personal photos/video when I’m not working with my pro gear. I pre-ordered… we’ll see if the IBIS is good enough for decent video.
it does! the ibis + 6k 422 10bit is really enticing. It would be a great UA-cam b cam, travel cam and ofcourse personal photo camera
I'm going to give it some thought, I really love my ricoh but I can't rely on it for video either haha.
I've been considering getting a sony zve1 as a UA-cam B cam, but the fuji could potentially replace that + ricoh
so many decisions haha
Hey great video. I actually own and shoot (for fun) with the x100v (and Sony a7IV) and I was watching this to convince myself not to go to the dark side and buy a Leica Q3. Partly because of the price of the Q3, but also because I really love this camera and feel like I have more time with it. I still find new great things everyday that help me enjoy it. The M is just too...much for me. And too expensive, with lenses etc. Did you ever consider the Q2 or 3? Last sequence of photos - awesome.
Thanks!
So rad that’s a solid kit
Yeah I’ve considered it but I’m not sold on the size + 28mm
28 is epic but I really love 35-50
I’d love an old m240 or something and it would be somewhat of an equal price
But I have other priorities so it wouldn’t happen for a while haha
Thank you for such a long photo part. I paused many times and just sit there.
Thank you! So rad to hear
Nice photo section in the end. Really shows that the majority of money should go towards trips, not gear. Don't get why this video has 128 dislikes, it's one of the best photo galleries of the X100V
thank you! Really appreciate the kind words, was really fun to edit this together and look back through some memories

Voightlander makes some manual fuji mount native lenses similar to Leica
🔥
Had another question - you have a great handle on that focal length. Are most of those photos 35mm equivalent or the 28mm?
Thanks! It’s a good mix, I know it starts off at 35 - then I bought the 28 and used that quite a bit - then after that Montana trip I set it aside and stuck to 35
I also have a review on the 28 you can check out!
I’m coming from ff Nikon with fast lenses, have a q2 which I absolutely adore since 2019. I’m looking into x100vi as a secondary (smaller than q2 cuz of pancake lenses) to take with me everyday. Q2 is heavy, brick like and not pocketable. You mentioned Ricoh, how does that compare to x100v in terms of ability and quality? I’m not interested in video but photos only.
Great video btw. Thanks.
heck yeah! the x100vi could be a great move. Fuji files are really fun to work with, and it'll give a similar feel to the q2- it's small but not pocketable really
I looooove my ricoh, took some time getting used to it but the files are really great too. I definitely prefer having a true pocketable camera, and it's still fun enough where it feels like an "enthusiast's" camera.
I'd still love a q3 or Leica m but it's not a high priority. For now, I just need something portable and I've been really happy with it
no need to sell . the build and ability of this camera will be used for atleast a decade. i could see it being worth thousands later down the road
also, Digital Leicas are just as susceptible to 'digital rot" as any other digital cameras. Too many x100V's were made to be worth thousands. however it looks like the x100V will be the last made in Japan. Its china from now on,.
thats horrible .x100vi should be releasing soon but if they've opted to go for a cheaper manufacturing.... @@TheVFXbyArt
@@TheVFXbyArtdon’t worry, made in Japan would soon be a thing of the past lol
The x100vi will be made in China so 100% true. This is Handmade in Japan
@@justaemptymallit’s not handmade… chill.
Absolutely agree that it is nowhere near as small and compact as people make out, this was my main gripe with my X100F back in the day. I was actually looking at the ZVE1 and a small lens like the 40mm 2.5 or the 35mm GM and just doing loads of videos for my vacations and trips instead of taking photos, so I'm glad to hear you look back and feel a similar way. I was hoping to pick up a mju ii or T3 for a truly pocketable option for photo.
xe4 plus the newer native x mount voigtlander lenses, like the f2 27mm ultra, is an extremely compact solution.
Saw on twitter you sold the C70. I'm curious if you still recommend that over the FX6? Have enjoyed your content on it. Wanted to see if any complaints arose after having it for a while.
yeah! it just depends
I think the fx6 is a much better "run n gun" camera for event, weddings, and such. It pairs perfectly with the fx3 so that's a great 2 camera setup.
The c70 was my favorite for "bigger" jobs. I think if you're considering the Komodo at all but want the versatility of the fx6, that's where the c70 comes into play
It's smaller, you get 10 stops of fixed ND, audio on body, internal raw (better than nothing), menus are easy, and the colors are just stunning with clog2 + dgo sensor
Looking back I think I made the right choice. Now that I have the KX I could see a use case for a fx6 or at least renting it. But thats not to say the fx6 is any slouch, the image is great but I liked the c70 better for my bigger jobs
@@thomas.kovacik Good to know! Thanks for the insight. FX3/6 probably makes more sense for the type of work I tend to get. But even though on paper the FX6 fits the event type of work better there's something appealing about the C70. Between the used price drops and the nice image on the c70 I was heavily considering it instead.
The form factor seems odd but I like that it seems like you can have a more compact setup with the C70 but with the convenient FX6 features. Just gotta decide which ecosystem to invest in.
yep! I had similar thoughts. the c70 just had this draw to it
I really enjoyed my time with it, it's so dang versatile! RF / EF lenses work really well too. The RF lenses are worth it I'd say
I think having the fx3 as my "B" helped not go for the fx6. Didn't seem like much of an upgrade for me
I love my x100v
it's a solid camera forsure!
Anyone familiar with the two…..is the xt30ii with pancake lens smaller than this camera?
Same vibe as me, i don't want to be a professional photographer, just want to register, nice video.
heck yeah! Such a fun little camera though
Thanks!
🤝🤝
yewww
X100VI is right around the corner hehe
Can’t wait haha
@@thomas.kovacik I saw at least 3 of the items on your wishlist so it looks like a W !
Merci, l’appareil d’une vie.
If you love this camera then you will really love the Leica Q system. I captured way better shots when I got Full frame. Its like the x100v++
I’m sure I will! I think that could be a great move alongside my Ricoh. Ricoh for times where I want small, Leica q for when I don’t mind carrying a photo camera
The Leica files / lenses are enticing
Watched this whole video and kept thinking to myself he should just buy a Leica.
You’re not wrong! But also- I carry around video gear often so I want something tiny ya know
I’d love a Leica m though, but for now I’d rather put that $$ towards my cinematography
If I was just a photographer 100% I’d have one haha
Now I want one again lol
..so does half of eBay!
hah it's a fun one!
Sony a74. Not pro. Great photos. Great video. Just one system.
That camera is so solid! Always been a fan of the a7 series
good luck trying to find something small with good ibis and video 😢😢😢im having the same problem
Sacrificed video and got the Ricoh griiix. Beyond happy with it! I don’t mine having photo / video cameras bc the Ricoh is so tiny, and I’ll just bring my fx3 to film
First nice video, overall with this outro of 10 minutes of images...great! Second don't buy the M11...you are going to pay more for the name than the whole experience. M10 cost half and it works fine.
thank ya! Yeah that makes sense, I'm still open to a m240 or whatever haha
It's not a high priority so I dont think it'll happen for a long time anyways haha
Shame that Fujifilm had discontinued the X100 series camera range, along with the discontinuation of the X-E and X-Pro cameras too. The digital camera division was loss making for years, and is now focussed on the premium end of the market with the X-T, X-H and GFX cameras only.
there's some heavy rumors for a new x100 so we'll see!
Yeah the xe / xpro cameras were so cool! Wonder if they'll revive that later on
The GFX line is crazy though, seems like a new go-to for industry pros
@@thomas.kovacik Yes, I wanted the X100V new, but never pressed the buy button, regretted it so much!
Komodo x video ?👀
Soon! Halfway done editing
im excited cuz i wanna buy one@@thomas.kovacik
Well good you sold it. 😂
haha yeah! I'm really happy with my ricoh
I've had lots of digital cameras, Sony, Leica m9, Fujifilm, including the X100V before all the hype. I sold them all. Now I only work with a Leica m6.
At some point, I find it pointless to try to replicate the look of film, if it's so good. It's really worth investing in film, you're more creative, you enjoy your work more, and it puts more people to work in the industry.
Real photo lovers know.
Definitely! For real photographers it makes sense
For people like me, I’d rather invest that $$ into my cinematography haha
No doubt film has this draw and aura to it
If given the choice- I’d rather shoot motion picture film than stills
Shocked to find a leica gatekeeper out here dividing the "real" photo lovers from the apparently not real 😂
@@MarkBrainerd that’s your interpretation. What I said is It's all an attempt to reproduce film: the design of the camera, the photographic filters... it's all wrong, and it's all bad.
@@unmecvrai major eyeroll at "it's all wrong, and it's all bad", you couldn't be more cringe and wrong. Tribalism is bad. Shoot film, shoot digital. Just get out there and take photos and work on your craft and don't get caught up in gate keeping "real photo lovers" nonsense.
@@unmecvrai and I say this as someone who would love to try shooting a film rangefinder one day.
