Great video and a review! I agree with you in regards to the new hybrid use capabilities that come with the new model which are game changers in my opinion.
Hey Sean - I’m a bit late on this video - I saw one of your complaints about the camera is the “buffer” when a Film sim. has clarity/sharpness - a work around is to set your camera to “Low Speed Burst - 3.0” the only downside is that flash does not work in this mode but it resolves the buffering issue
Dude this is massive, thank you so much for sharing. Had no idea. I don’t use the flash all that much so that’s totally fine. Appreciate the comment Fabe!

I couldn’t tell you, but I honestly don’t think it matters. I’m much more interested in the feel and emotion my image has than the sharpness and how much detail the lens resolves. I can tell you that the lens looks amazing, and is more than sharp enough for my needs. The images feel like they have more than enough resolution to work with as well. In regards to the Sony or Fuji, I gotta say I do love shooting with a FF sensor. The Fuji is epic but if I have a raw edit to work with I much prefer editing the Sony files. I feel I have more creative control. So the A7C would be better for more serious shooting imo, and the Fuji is just a great everyday camera. Not to say it isn’t epic in its own right, it is. But I prefer the Sony files
Hi Sean - I’m a new Fujifilm x100vi owner and wonder if you could answer a question about film recipes. The two that you posted, Reala Ace and Portra 800 then list settings below the name…are those the automatic settings already within the camera…or do I need to set each of the elements to match yours? In other words did you adjust the film simulation to be a custom one? Or is that just out of the box? Thanks much!
Hey good question! Yes, I just adjusted the film simulation and the other settings on camera. You must manually set these into the camera but it’s very easy to do in the I.Q section of the menu on camera :)
Good question. I like both a lot. The black is stealthy, the silver is classic. For some reason the silver just feels a bit more premium to me though, I’m not sure why. I’m happy with the black now, but might go back to silver on the next release! Honestly can’t go wrong with either
You’re expecting the wrong things out of this camera. Yes it has video but it’s not meant to be a Sony. And it’s not meant to snap off tons of pictures at once. It’s supposed to a methodical and slow experience.
And I love exactly for that reason. I don’t expect it to be a Sony, I’m just using the Sony as something to compare against as that’s what many of us photographers are familiar with
Some reviewers are saying 5th gen sensor has more vibrant and punchier colors, do you agree with that? I am considering XS20 or X100vi and would prefer XS20, but if X100vi has better colors I would like to get newer version.
Great video Sean. A lot of things I can relate with here! I also use a Sony a74 / Fujifilm x100vi. I defiantly agree with the video issues coming from Sony but I guess thats the trade off of having such a compact camera. I wish you could lock shutter speed in the custom presets instead of having to select the 180 rule each time and then adjust aperture / use ND filter for exposure. IBIS is great but obviously not as good as Sonys. Grading f-log 2 is more of a faff than s-log 3 using davinci resolve as well but overall great results.
Thanks for sharing the recipes Sean! Gorgeous photos and tones, as always. Question on the Reala Ace recipe. I get completely different results. My photos look really blueish and washed out. Are you sure those are the right settings?
Thank you brother! That’s very interesting. I believe it’s correct, will need to double check but I’m 99% sure. Potentially it could be the setting. It’s been very warm and hazy in Chiang Mai (burning season) which casts a strong yellow tint over everything. I could see it looking too blue if shot in a different setting.
I had no issues with it. With that said I wasn’t shooting mid day, only mornings and afternoon. If I was shooting under the mid day sun I don’t think I’d be here right now 😅 brutally hot at the moment

I finally have my pre-ordered X100VI. I do also own a Sony A7 IV. My question is: Does the Fuji X100 VI have the Soft Skin Effect, like the Sony A7IV???? Please can you check on it? I can't find it on the X100VI.
When you say Sony video is better, you probably meant after post processing and not SOOC, am I correct? I was considering Sony A7c ii, but video SOOC didn't look good from my research. I am not a pro, using camera for fun.
It’s better SOOC, and also better for grading. Plus the added bonus of being able to use different lenses makes Sony a much more robust camera, but they aren’t really in the same category as each other
The whole concept of having so few buttons and the shutter, ISO and aperture dials is to get back to basics. For a beginner start with all three on auto, then use aperture priority to get to understand the exposure triangle. Then learn about exp comp. The in fill flash sync is also a superb tool. You are partially correct on the V and F for photography but only the V and VI have the newer and sharper lens. This is needed to max out the capability of the excellent high res 40mp capability. Won’t IBIS also help with night shots? I’ve seen amazing stills shot hand held on a VI at 1/2 seconds. Finally, whilst Sony and pro Canon have excellent EVFs, the optical viewfinder on the X series is superb for seeing ‘the bigger picture’ then you can switch to EVF or hybrid. I think the VI also does HEIF 10 bit and 14 bit RAW so for serious photographers it’s a mini powerhouse, albeit with very large files. I bought one for a forthcoming bucket list tour in China, mainly for city and sites work. I won’t need to cart around my heavy Canon pro SLR kit. I’ll still take either a hybrid bridge borrowed from a friend or bits of my great little EOSM5 kit. It initially looks an expensive investment but the VI is so powerful it’ll last years. I think people trying to buy it realise this.
I noticed this while shooting with the VI. You do however get more options with the VI - so instead of shooting at -2 for shadows shoots at -1.5 instead
It’s certainly good enough for professional work, however you’ll be very limited by the 35mm focal length. I would definitely go for the Fuji XT5 if you want to shoot professionally and are eyeing a Fuji. I use Sony for my professional work

And to answer your question. The A7IV is my main body for both photo and video now, it’s an amazing hybrid camera. The SIII is a video focused camera but the video capabilities of the A7IV match the A7SIII except for in a few scenarios. But for me, the A7IV is more than good enough. I plan to sell the A7siii m.

Clarity really slows down the shooting with Fujifilm cameras. I prefer to shoot RAW + JPEG and if I want to add clarity to an image, I'll do it after either by processing the RAW in camera or on Capture One. But if you switch your shooting mode to continous, it'll keep all the settings and ignore the clarity to allow you to shoot up to the max 11 fps.

I have been shooting for 2 weeks and every photo is perfect. My xs10 battery can be used on x100vi as well. I have 3 battery and 2 is enough for one day. U shouldnt expect everything in one model.
I was also excited to hear about the release of the x100vi. But this crazy hype has frankly turned me off, and I'm now considering for an extra 300 bucks to buy the Sony a7cII, which also has stabilization, produces excellent images, it's full format, and offers interchangeable cameras. Let's face it this hype is stretched much too far, Fuji is offering a 35mm equivalent lens, and it's simply not too big a big deal for everyone to be making such big fuss, unless you have money you wanna just spend for the hype of it...
It’s definitely hyped, and I’m lucky I got the x100V before it all got hyped up. But in all honesty it is a great little camera for what it is. The lens is very sharp and the body is small and compact. They’ve engineered it to put a full size lens into a very small body, and the image quality is great. I personally love the recipes as well, and 35mm is my preferred focal length for a lot of my work. An A7CII is going to be a much more robust camera with the full frame sensor and Sony video capabilities. Plus you can use interchangeable lenses that really put it in a different category than a camera like the x100 series. I don’t think I could ever shoot only Fuji, it’s a personal/fun camera for me mostly. I think you’d love the A7CII, great little camera and much more capable than a fixed lens like this.
When the word “recipe” is used for photography, it makes me cringe every time! Using “preset or presets” sounds a million times better! Anyone else feel the same way?
Haha yeah it was foreign to me when I first started using it. I only refer to Fuji recipes as recipe. Everything else just sounds weird. I still call presets presets!

Too much noise reduction and maybe less clarity in ur shots?
When the word “recipe” is used for photography, it makes me cringe every time! Using “preset or presets” sounds a million times better! Anyone else feel the same way?
Haha yeah it was foreign to me when I first started using it. I only refer to Fuji recipes as recipe. Everything else just sounds weird.
I still call presets presets!
