Solid review. I know the feeling that Fuji cameras can bring. It’s like a classic car that doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles of newer ones, but is built to stir the soul.
Stunning video! I’m a first-time Fuji user. I eventually chose the X-S10 due to its better availability/pricing, plus the included image stabilization lets me use the 50-230mm kit lens (the kit came with 2 lenses) without a tripod. The film simulations are gorgeous and I never wanna go back to editing RAW files when I don‘t have to. Cheers!!
12:49 "I don't want a moment to turn into a photosession" SO TRUE, especially when I go on a holiday trip I don't really wanna bring my fullframe cameras due to the bulk of it and not enjoying the vacation as it's meant to be
Thank you! I can't tell you how many times I have brought a mirrorless with say a 24-70 out with me and for some reason felt more pressure to create really nice imagery which led me to not wanting to shoot. I know not everyone is like this - but it happened to me often and eventually just left the bigger camera at home. Unless its for client work or anything important, than of course the bigger cameras are still better.
The camera doesn't matter. It is the photographer's eye and his/her ability to capture an image that fully encapsulates the photographer's visualisation of the scene that matters.
Awesome video! I have been waiting to get a 100V for a long time and suddenly there were some in stock at B&H I ordered just before a short trip to Mexico. Packed the mirrorless bodies and lenses and kept the 100V available to use. I did use the mirrorless and a couple of lenses but found that I used the 100V more and have been amazed by the quality of the images since getting home and looking at them in C1. It brings me back to when I fell in love with photography decades ago!
I've had an X100F, XT3, and XE4. The camera I always go back to is the XE-4. Size of the X100 series, but with lens options. I have both the 18mm and 27mm pancake to scratch my rangefinder itch.
I've been going back and forth on this camera and this video helped me decide that for now I am content with my Ricoh Griii. I'll eventually get a Fuji for the colours but the fact that the ricoh is smaller, has a lot of the features you mentioned PLUS has image stabilization is a huge win
@@edwardleefilms I managed to find a Fuji for a decent price! So far so good but I'm not swayed that it's worth the hype and honestly the ricoh is underrated imo
@@Gfp1995 Absolutely. The Ricoh takes even better pictures in some situations (IBIS). I sold my V and for the price you get a (used) Ricoh and a good used Fuji with interchangeable lenses.
Great camera. I have (too) many, but this is my go to for digital lug everywhere. Few people seem to mention the fact that this is one of few that have a hybrid viewfinder. Don't need to remove my glasses every 2 seconds; just keep the eyeball in the EVF-OVF and I miss nothing.
Thanks for posting this. I have the x100vi on preorder. Since it wasn't coming in time i almost went and bought a Nikon Z6ii but i've decided to hold it out because of this video. You basically summed up all the reasons why I had ordered one in the first place and I'm excited to get it into my hands now
I have had the X100V since August 2021. It’s the best camera I’ve had. I still get a buzz from it. It’s highly portable, as I do a lot of hiking. Also great for family use. The IQ is excellent. Thank you for the video, greetings from Scotland 👍
Thanks for mentioning the digital zoom of 50mm and 70mm ! Literally no one talks about it. Sure it may come with a little downgrade in quality but still it is nice to be there with a fixed lens, it gives more room for flexibility.
Although it's a high-quality camera, like anything, it's not for everyone. Former X-T2 and X70 user, I bought an X100F (as said in the video it's almost an X100v) that I thought I would love to use but I am selling it today because I never use it! I take better photos and videos with my Pana S5 (especially with an old lens) and with my new Ricoh GR IIIx which is really portable (it easily fits in a pocket). In my case the Fuji is simply stuck between the two and I'm a little sad because the device is absolutely beautiful!
Besides some erroneous words like "quality" instead of "size" , nice video. Not technical, not for real Pro photographers and not pretending to be. Well done.
Thank you for a solid, honest video. I just bought one brand new at a decent price and am looking forward to receiving it in the next couple of days. This video was very helpful and encouraging.
Great video! Got mine in June and have loved it!! Went from iPhone photography to this and it’s been so fun to use. Would have loved a Leica but this was a more budget friendly option!
I think people forget its the film simulations that sell this thing. The Ricoh is meant for a beginner/average photographer who wants decent colors and a quick experience. The display is horrible and no viewfinder is frustrating. Fujis colors stomp Ricohs and those film sims are crisp, plus that 35 is a much nicer focal length. Would never go back too the Ricoh!!!
For those of you who want to get premium compact - you have sony rx100 series, fuji x-e series, olympus om10 series. And most importantly Ricoh GR III.
I think that has always been the draw of Fujifilm. My A7RIII there is always work to do with the RAW files. But with Fuji the jpegs are so beautiful and it's lovely. I don't think I'd ever get a fixed lens fujifilm, but I will definitely get one.
I love my x100v. But IMO after the TikTok trend drove the price up- there's no reason to pay more than the original $1300-1400 or so for this camera USD. There are interchangeable cameras within the Fuji line at this point that give you a similar if not better experience for less than half the price and you can spend the rest on lenses and accessories. If this is how it will be in the future I'm afraid the x100 series is done for as the appeal does not outweigh the new costs.
Agreed. I do not think this camera is worth it at the current market with people trying to profit. I bought this camera second hand for about $1100 so it wasn't too bad. But I would not recommend anyone buy this camera for $1400-1800. There are other cameras in that price range.
Its all about how it makes you feel. I have a substantial lineup of Leica M cameras and lenses, and im considering this just for that "easy to grab and throw in your pocket" aspect. looks much smaller than the Q2 which would be my obvious choice.
Great video! I owned this camera for about the same amount of time and sold it, just like with my F. As someone who loves photography already, constantly feels inspired by other cameras too, I wouldn’t say this is a must-buy. I do think this camera is a bit overhyped solely because what it excels at one thing very well, but I don’t think everyone understands what this thing is and how that may not be for them. It’s not for me. When I feel like shooting, I bring expensive gear; when I don’t, phones are pretty great in their own right for those moments. I am very in this in-between and left these x100 cameras at home pretty often. This camera, aside from film simulations, have very little personality to it’s images imo. They’re straight-forward, which is the better option for most people. For me, at a similar form-factor, I’d take a film rangefinder like a Voigtlander and the 1.2 over it any day. No real hate for the V in any sense, just some food for thought to anyone down the rabbit hole of x100 videos.
Yeah these are all fair points. I think this camera isn't for everyone. It's a very basic camera depending on how you plan to use it. Thanks for your thoughts!
I've been looking for a camera for personal use and I think this is the one. I was actually planning on buying the Sony ZV e10, but this video sold me. The thing is, it's out of stock everywhere here in Canada
I owned and sold my x100v right around when it first came out. It never felt great in the hand now that I think about it. And it has zero stabilization (if it even had digital stabe, I wouldn’t have sold it) and for video that would have been clutch. It also wasn’t as pocketable as other cameras meant for similar purposes. So all in all it wasn’t my favorite. But it definitely took some pretty shots, and was a dead sexy camera to look at for Damm sure. Other than that, no, I don’t think it’s worth the hype at all. Oh ya I also never got into the ovf hybrid viewfinder thing. Maybe I was missing out? Meh I don’t care. I’ve used real rangefinder film cameras and that ovf wasn’t doing anything for me personally. I think the main reason to use the x100v was definitely for the ability to tweak the colors, etc in camera. But since then I have learned to edit in post pretty easily and with more control and have also learned that I prefer to edit in post because every shot is different and requires it’s own look and feeling/mood that doesn’t make sense to me now to try and force and pre install prior to the shot. So that ability is pointless to me. I now prefer to shoot more flat and then figure out what the shot needs later on. But if you have a lot of money to have this as an extra fun camera, by all means have at it!! Super fun and dead sexy lol. Personally after many camera bodies/systems since, I have been surprisingly amazingly happy with the Sony zve10. Much smaller than the x100v. Has nice stabilization. And is super versatile as a perfect pocketable hybrid edc. I can rig it out for proper video shoots. I can throw a pancake on it for street and it fits in any pocket. I can throw a flash on it and shoot events. Does very well in lowlight. Tons of lens options and sizes. I’ve shot the Ricoh’s. The Fuji’s. The panasonics. I’ve even owned the Sigma fp at one point. Had The A7C and the Zv-1, and sold them both because this zve10 at the end of it all kind of fit that perfect place I was looking for, that checked all the boxes that all of those other systems lacked in some form or another. Ibis being a huge one apparently. Kind of does everything I need it to just well enough. A true Jack of all trades master of none kind of camera, that is really all we can ever hope for when it comes to finding that “perfect camera” lol
This is a very well thought out and detailed comment. Thanks for providing your input! I'm glad you found the perfect camera for you in the zve10. I've heard great things about that camera. I have yet to try the Ricoh's but I think at the end of the day, it comes down to price and usability for most
If Ricoh manages to fit IBIS into their GRIII cameras, it's hard to argue the same couldn't be done in the MUCH larger body of a X100. That being said, I do think the Film Simulation RAW to JPG processing in Fuji cameras is nice but by no means unique. Fuji makes it really easy to use. The raw processing engine in modern Ricoh cameras offers comparable results - better/different, however you want to look at that. The Olympus Pen F really sets the standard around that as a concept that a whole camera is built around - and pssst... you get best in class IBIS with all Olympus cameras. I think if I'd be in the market for a Fuji camera, I'd look into an XE4 over the X100V. Or go straight for an X-Pro3.
These are all valid and fair points. I have been hearing a lot about the Ricoh cameras and I think I will test one soon. I have seen the X-Pro3 in person and it looks really great
No it's not overhyped. The X-E4 is just *underrated*. It's legit got the same sensor and a pancake lens, without the ND/Flash. All simulations, 90% of the buttons... and the ability to swap lens. people just want x100v because tik tok told them to. the ND and flash are barely used in most cases for the people who buy these run and gun cameras.
Actually I'd say it is overhyped. I see no real reason why anyone would choose a fixed lens camera at that price. If you're paying that kind of money its kind of silly not to have options other than a 35mm equivalent field of view.
I was looking to purchase this camera since April of 2021 with no luck as it's always been out of stock. Ended up picking up a Ricoh gr iii x this July and have no regrets. Kind of glad I went this route as this camera easily fits in my cycling jersey pocket.
@@justaemptymall I could have, but I would've missed all the beautiful shots I took this year. I have no problem picking up the x next year as well. A savings on the q2 ghost edition i've been eyeing.
I bought and used the x100v, the q2, and the griii / griiix. Honestly still don't understand why the x100v blew up. The griii is a truly special camera with its sensor size, lens quality, and compact body. The q2 is.. Well. What the x100v wishes it could be. Even if I didn't have the money for the q2, the x100v isn't really a viable substitute like so many people hype it up to be. It's basically a toy Leica wannabe imo. Just my opinion.
I feel like i need to try this camera. Having shot only film for the last 7+ years, i think i need to switch things up a little, and this feels like it could be the answer...
I think you will really like it! There are so many great cameras that Fuji makes but for what it's worth, many of my friends who primarily shoot film really like this camera too.
I'm currently saving for one I have an xt5 which I love love one four just walk about photography say stopping on the side of the road when I'm driving and seeing something interesting I've seen a few on Facebook Marketplace as well as people sell them to upgrade but I already have the upgraded xt5 so this was always going to be my second fuji camera
Wow that means a lot man! Thank you for watching. I definitely tried a bit harder on this video but hopefully we can make more videos like this in the coming months
@@edwardleefilms you convinced me to order an x100v next time they're back in stock. A few videos tempted me but this one did it. hope to get it not too far into the future.
The quality of this video is just *chefs kiss* and I thank you for it. I'm deciding between Leica Q2 and this. I will be testing Q2 soon for my TikTok, but for me it's too much money, even used it's around 4000$. In my country (Czech Republic), you need to wait a month for X100V.
For tik tok? Have you tried iphone or xperia 1iv? The Q2 has a unique feel to it but surely you will get over it after a while. The video capability of the Q2 is limited for the price. I did own one and sold it for an a7iv and lenses. X100v is in a place of its own. Paps has one and i enjoy using it alot. If its your only camera i dont think its a good idea. Those (not having to worry about what lense) thing is overrated cause you can just choose to bring one lense with you. Cameras like the a6400+28mm lense is also small and portable. But if you dont like to edit pictures then the x100v and Q2 are your choices for the different price range
@@stephaned3072 I have a tech TikTok channel, so I will be reviewing the Q2, not for video. I have Canon R6 for that and I want my next camera to be my everyday camera.
@@tadypetr oh. Just get the x100 its dope man. But the q2 feels solid and premium. Ion know theres something about it that feels good the little details and thoughts behind it lol. Ill prolly buy one again when i get enough cash
I'm not really familiar with what is "hype" or not, but I bought this camera when it released in 2020, as a replacement to my Fujix70. It was pretty expensive, but I loved the retro look of it and I just wanted something that would last a very long time. FF to now, I can't imagine a more perfect compact digital camera. This thing is totally worth whatever hype is going into it. It shoots movie-quality videos, has really fun film simulations that actually look film-like. The batteries last long. The build quality is strong. And best of all, the amount of compliments you'll get wearing this thing around your neck, you'd feel like a celebrity lol. I mean, legit. Every single time I walk around with this camera, people will stop and compliment or ask me if it's a film camera. It's a flex-machine. In terms of actual professional photography stuff -- yeah Idk about any of that. But I just know this camera is insanely fun to shoot with, pro or amateur. And my x70 was essentially my dream compact, but I wanted something that could shoot better videos.
The X100V is hype. It's only its size and the fixed lens that makes it unique among the Fuji range. Most of the same film simulations can be found on the XE4 or the more versatile XPro3 cameras and there's nothing to stop you shooting with just a prime, the 27mm pancake lens, which would be a good one to start with. I love Fujifilm cameras, I use two a lot but at times I would like a true colour "simulation" rather than a digital representation of a colour technology that was at best a compromise.
I bought a XS10 with Fujinon 18-55 and Sigma 30, and here we are, I have a much better option. Fixed 27mm f2 will NEVER be enough for your needs, unless you have spare money for several cameras, lol. I get why it's hyped. It's small, lightweight, and has a rangefinder (plus the film simulators). Mid-range or top-tier Fuji cameras can learn from it (looking at you, XE4). But that's simply not enough for an "all-purposes" camera. I feel light this is just a flashy toy for people who get bored of iPhones, and there are many of those people.
I have had mine for about 2.5 mths, you nailed it that I wanted a camera with awesome jPegs. I wanted a better than iPhone camera I can carry in my pocket. I have been enjoying creating the recipes. Classic Chrome, Pro Neg and Acros have become my favs. That being said, I like the Fuji experience so much I am considering selling it to fund getting a X-H2 and adapt my EF primes to it.
Yeah I am in the same boat. I know fuji makes other amazing cameras and this X100V makes me want to explore their other offers. I mainly shoot Sony and Canon but want to see how I like fuji for video and maybe more professional photo work
@@edwardleefilms I shoot the R6 for paid work, I adapt Sigma 1.4 primes (40&105) as the RF 1.2’s are insanely priced. The 40mm on X-H2 with net 60mm FOV could be a killer combo!!
Yeah I was in the same position. I definitely think a compact point and shoot will solve that blocker for you. Doesn't have to be this X100V. So many awesome point and shoots out on the market now
I think the whole "film look" nonsense is funny. I was an early adopter of digital cameras after shooting film everyday for 40 years. The real "film look" was blown out highlights and blocked up shadows because of the limited dynamic range of film, and grainy images from the "fast" films of the day at ISO 400. We put up with the "film look" in 35mm because we didn't have any choice. No way I want the "film look" again. There's no magic in a Fuji or Leica. The magic is in the eye looking through that viewfinder. The X100V is overhyped, just like TikTok (which will soon be banned in the U.S.). Great video, by the way.
This is a really interesting take on the whole film look trend. I do agree that looking through the viewfinder is slowly becoming something that less and less people do. Thanks for your thoughts!
It is 100% HYPE. As someone who owns a XH2S, XH2, and a XT4 i can tell you that the youtube videos and the instagram reels are getting to peoples heads. This camera should not cost $2000 USED. At $1400 it is a DESCENT price at best when you consider the XT5 is $1700 plus $300 for lens and is a WAY WAY more capable camera. I'm not mad I love that people are looking at Fuji and realizing how kick ass they are but this is HYPE.
My 100v was stolen from me last September in the Himalayas. My heart has been broken ever since. The day I can save enough money to buy another... I've been looking forward to it for (what seems like) ever.
They actually should be able to put in-body image stabilization inside of it. Another APS-C camera, the Ricoh GRIII, has in-body image stabilization and it's even SMALLER than the X100V.
It's also not weather-sealed and still eats up battery life and gets hot quickly. Ricoh has said the main reason they couldn't add weather sealing is because of size constraints. Fuji engineers have their work set out for them.
I like that you actually attempted to answer the question. However, how much Hype is too much hype?… It's definitely over-priced… but then so are Leica.
Yeah I do think it's really subjective. But I think a lot of people view cameras from a very technical stand point. Sometimes it's just the feeling it gives off and how you feel when you use it. No different than buying a trendy piece of clothes or a luxury item imo. Can you get it done with something maybe more feature rich or affordable? Probably - but that's not why people buy the trending stuff. At least that's just how I see it
Loved the opening titles of this video and it's a change to have some different style of music other than boring chilled jazz. Well done guys. I love my x100v!
Hi Edward, I love watching your videos man. I don't know a lot about cameras, but I want to start with and get a camera. I like your review about the Fuji X100V, but if image stabilization is difficult... I don't know then. I am also looking at the Fujifilm X-S10. Which one (or other Fuji) is easy to use and would you recommend? For me it's important to have a good focus on the camera (to take easy, random pictures without much of a hassle. Looking forward to your answer.
I think the X100V is great but if you're looking for something with stabilization and more video features, I would definitely look at their other cameras!
Conversion lenses, sync at 1/2000 (w/o HSS) are huge as well. Super-solid breakdown man. This camera is going on 3 years old and hard to find. I don't see myself selling mine anytime soon. Lots a "pro" shooters I know are looking for an EDC to bring joy to photography for them. Seems like they're landing on the X100V and struggling to find one. Cheers!
This camera coming up on 3 years old, do you think it would be worth it to wait for the successor possibly with the new 40.2MP back-illuminated X-Trans CMOS 5 HR Imaging Sensor? Not gonna lie I just got the X100V from B&H photo 2 weeks ago (haven't even opened the box yet) and am debating on returning it just in case they release a new version in Feb/Mar 2023🤔....what are you thoughts?
@@gabeh7373 no need to return, just resell it and make a couple hundred $$$ from it. Not sure how great the image quality jump will be, but if anything you can get a cheaper x100v for used prices once the new one comes out. Which is what I'm planning to do.
@@gabeh7373 That’s a tough one to answer! February is usually a time when we see some solid rumors, if not an announcement of sorts. I were Fuji, I’d be in a touch spot; divert resources to new models or continue to produce “old” ones that FLY off of the shelves. The XT5 is selling fairly well at this point from what I see. In all honesty, I can’t fairly answer that question because I have 3 generations of sensors, X Pro 2, X100V and XT5. I don’t see why can’t use the X100V a while. I would assume the next bodies will be $100+ more with the inclusion of a 40mp sensor AND used market prices may hold close to retail if that happens :). Cheers!
Thank u for that awesome video! I have a X100V and also an original X100 and i am obsessed with them! Shoot everything with the V (well everything except studio). Thank u for making this video because I was gonna make it myself and talk about the same things hahah!
The only cameras that left a sad feeling once i sold them were gr,q and rx1. Couldn't connect with x100 series, you can get the same result with more practical bodies, and lens has no particular strength. İts pure romanticism and hence over hyped
That's a great review! Thank you. Do you think with the digital zoom, it could be a good camera for a safari trip knowing that I don't want to buy a bridge one. Thank you!
This one, in my oppinion is to replace point and shoot camera before, which provides user compact camera with high quality sensor, a bunch of color simulations and cheaper than a leica. I will not choose it because it has not interchangeable lens and the attached lens only has f 2-16, but this one is still a great camera anyway.
great lightning and video. We have a couple of the X100V and in comparison to the new Xt5 ( which we love ) the "made in Japan" build quality seems to give the V a feel which has been increasingly tough to find since 2019 or so.
Politely disagreeing with most of the things said in this video: 1. The highlight roll-off of the Fuji X-Series cameras is not smooth and pleasing, but actually very harsh when shot in JPEG, even when making use of the provided in camera tone curve and dynamic range settings (because for most "film looks" you need to over-expose the images to make them look authentic) 2. The built in Film-Simulations don't look like film, but more like Instagram filters 3. To acheive an authentic film look you need to mod your lenses with expesive filters like mist filters, which just adds to the overall over-priced spending to actually get what was advertised. 4. Most film sims and recipes never turn out as advertised by Fuji or all these UA-camrs and they obviously do way more editing to the images than they are admitting! That is a fact! 5. I found myself ultimately going back to shooting RAW on my Fuji, to benefit from the camera's size but not having to compromize in image quality. I am also tweaking my Fuji so the images look like my big old DSLR, because those images look truely amazing. 6. The X-Series is very much over-priced for a crop camera series and all the models with the same sensor and processor generation produce practically identical images and have almost the same features, which really bugs me that between an X-T4 and the X-T30ii is such a huge price gap while being merely identical cameras in terms of specs and image reproduction. 7. Going and waiting for an X100V or getting your X-E4 orders cancelled like Fuji did that internationally in April '23 instead of an X-T30ii is mindboggling to me, just to have that "nicer looking" body but losing functionality with a fixed lens and lack of dedicated buttons and dials, so you need to menu dive again. 8. The X-Series may be great for experimentation, but it takes way too long to find a look that you personally like and tweak it to the point on which you're satisfied and you spend way too much time to play around with simulations and end up with all kinds of different looking images in terms of style, when I think is most photographers goal to actually find and stick to something they can call their "own style" to set themselves apart from each other, which leads me to the next issue, which is that images look like everybody else's images, because of the wide spread of these cameras and the "same-y" kind of looks to the images across the board of photographers. 9. Coming from Full Frame and Medium Format bodies, it is hard to be satisfied with the crop sensor aesthetic the X-Series produces. (the images are optically flat/lack optical depth which you can actually get from full frame and bigger) and that is not a real "35mm film look" if the lens and medium's size does not align with what we are used to be seeing on REAL 35mm film, because the medium is smaller on Fuji X, the optics differ extremely (e.g. rear-lens-element-distance to the medium) 10. The lenses you can buy for the system are way too clinically "perfect" and boring (unpleasing Bokeh, too sharp, no vignetta and no fringing - which some people want, but not me). 11. The AF is slower and more inacurate than my TWELVE YEAR OLD DSLR! Especially in low light, my old DSLR does so much better, it is not even funny! 12. Battery life is extremely short and 3rd party ones from eespecially akkukingDOTnet (little shout out here, because they produce AMAZING batteries as well for old DSLRs) last a 25% longer than the original Fuji batteries! 13. The argument with the Digital Crop on the X100V to "capture moments" is nonsensical to me, because while trying to capture a "moment" you don't have time to switch to another crop factor and it would be better to just take the shot in full resolution and crop in post. 14. The lenses don't produce any vignetting (to me that is a deal breaker for wanting to have the images look "vintage" or like film and an actual vignette from a lens that has been shot wide open is not just super pleasing but also acts as a "built-in radial transition ND filter, which does not exist on the market other than in a lens with natural vignetting, which helps preserving highlights in the sky by a lot, which the X-Series constantly blow out because you need to over-expose so much as stated above. And adding it in post does not have the same effect, because you can't restore lost information in JPEG and it is also hard in RAW if it is completely blown out!) 15. The consistancy of the semi-auto modes is less than reliable! With my old DSLR I just set the rules for lets say A-Mode and I can rely on that the outcome to be exactly what I wanted it to be, each and every single time - but not with the Fujis! They are often way over or under-exposed, no matter which meatering mode you use. On the other hand, that makes me actually shoot more often in Manual Mode again, but especially for Street, you want to be able to rely on your camera and not have an "I screwed the shot" moment (which I don't have with my DSLRs!). 16. The EVF doesn't show the actual brightness of the final image when using semi auto modes and having the exposure compensation set below -1, 2/3 stop even though it is set to correct settings that would dictate an accurate display! That caused me to under-expose a lot shots in the past because the EVF showed a brighter image than it would actually capture! In manual mode it displays all as intended though, but why not in A-Mode?! 17. I constantly need to switch between different Auto-ISO limit presets (e.g. ISO800 as max and ISO3200 as max), because the camera tends to always use the max allowed ISO value that you set as limit, even though there is plenty light so you could compensate with a faster shutter speed value, causing the camera to over-expose and make the images look noisy, even though you I had exposure comp set to -2/3. 18. Compared to other cameras the exposure comp on the Fujis is also not reliable and I have to dial in a lot higher values to get what I want, or to switch to manual to get it right. Especially in low light. And again, I don't have that issue on my DSLRs, but I indeed had the same issue with the mirrorless Nikon Z6 and it was very frustrating! There is absolutely pros to the X-Series cameras, but mostly in regards to size, weight and handling. I wish it took photos like my DSLR and I don't understand the hype at all, but only to have a size benefit when being "on the go" or travelling or being more stealthy but then to sacrifice "image quality" that a slightly bigger camera provides is questionable. I have not made up my mind entirely on the Fuji X-Series, but so far I am not convinced and will very likely just stick to my beloved DSLRs and just embrace the size and weight. I mean paired with a nice small prime you can counterweight these factors by quite a bit. And if you don't want to bother over changing lenses, then just stick to e.g. a 35mm and don't bring anything else than that and you don't need a fixed lens that takes that decisions off your back. Because the 23mm f2 on the X100V is not that superior to the other Fuji lenses, nor does it compensate for the crop sensor look, which bothers me the most personally. Just my two cents on the topic.
Its about the relative ease of use and the film simulations. There are other, cheaper cameras with even smaller form factors. The film simulations are the advantage over smart phones and causing a wider market demand. Without them, people wouldn't care half as much.
Solid review. I know the feeling that Fuji cameras can bring. It’s like a classic car that doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles of newer ones, but is built to stir the soul.
That is a beautiful way to put it
it's not, a fuji camera has all the modern components and features.

Totally spot on!
Another great X100V love letter! If it makes you fall in love with photography again, then it ain’t overrated!
Exactly! Finally in the X100V video club for uploading on UA-cam hahaha
I just went to mc donalds, big mac made me fall in love with burgers again
The effort and skill that went into this video. 🔥 You nailed it, Ed.
Thanks Joel :)
Cheers!!
12:49 "I don't want a moment to turn into a photosession"
SO TRUE, especially when I go on a holiday trip I don't really wanna bring my fullframe cameras due to the bulk of it and not enjoying the vacation as it's meant to be
Love that for you! So crazy that you got some in that small window BH had some in stock. I feel the same way about the camera
@@edwardleefilms Next year V100VI release.
I'm definitely waiting
I've had an X100F, XT3, and XE4. The camera I always go back to is the XE-4. Size of the X100 series, but with lens options. I have both the 18mm and 27mm pancake to scratch my rangefinder itch.
I think the xe4 is the way to go because of the added versatility but still coming in a small, travel friendly package
the xe doesnt just have lens options, but also smaller and lighter (not including bigger lens)
I'm still loving my X100F and have no plan of upgrading anytime soon. 📷
I've been going back and forth on this camera and this video helped me decide that for now I am content with my Ricoh Griii. I'll eventually get a Fuji for the colours but the fact that the ricoh is smaller, has a lot of the features you mentioned PLUS has image stabilization is a huge win
Yeah i heard with the Ricoh size, its awesome. Cant go wrong with either!
This video alone earned a sub from me. Well done. The quality, explanation, examples, and passion in your voice all came through. Mad respect
Thanks. That really means a ton!
Ed, I Have had mine for 3 weeks now and I love this thing, I have carried it with me every day, everywhere since then, thanks for your video.
Its so great right?? Love this thing
Damn. This is the best review of the X100V I've seen. You captured everything that's great about this camera and what it's like shooting with it.
Thanks so much for the comment. I really appreciate it!
That is super interesting. I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing!
Its the exact same thing as cropping in post.
@@itsjantore but you don't have to do it in post, which is what attracts many people to this camera in the first place
Why eve get stuck with a fixed lens in the first place?
Although it's a high-quality camera, like anything, it's not for everyone.
Former X-T2 and X70 user, I bought an X100F (as said in the video it's almost an X100v) that I thought I would love to use but I am selling it today because I never use it!
I take better photos and videos with my Pana S5 (especially with an old lens) and with my new Ricoh GR IIIx which is really portable (it easily fits in a pocket).
In my case the Fuji is simply stuck between the two and I'm a little sad because the device is absolutely beautiful!
Feel like it’s out of stock cause they are planning to release the next version in feb 2023 fingers crossed 🤞
That would be so awesome!
Besides some erroneous words like "quality" instead of "size" , nice video. Not technical, not for real Pro photographers and not pretending to be. Well done.
Thanks for the honest feedback and for watching. I appreciate it!
Thank you for a solid, honest video. I just bought one brand new at a decent price and am looking forward to receiving it in the next couple of days. This video was very helpful and encouraging.

Thanks for making your way all the way over here from Twitter! Quite the travel.
Great video! Got mine in
June and have loved it!! Went from iPhone photography to this and it’s been so fun to use. Would have loved a Leica but this was a more budget friendly option!
Yes! This is a perfect camera before a Leica in my opinion. I'd love to own a Leica one day as well. But for now, this Fuji is great for me
You are the person that completely changed my mind! This will definitely be my big upgrade from A6000 to this camera! Great work!
Unpopular opinion, they should gut the x100 series, restart their x-e series back with the left over scrap and resources.
And most importantly Ricoh GR III.
they killed the x-e series sadly.
I feel like 99% of people get that camera as a fashion accessoire and have no idea about photography
I mean this is the best review/opinion on the camera. Needs 3 millions views
Sheesh, that means a lot! Thanks!
Let's go! Such a crisp cinematic breakdown of a fantastic camera.
Stoked that we got to work on this one together :)
Great video Ed! I've heard many good things about the X100V and your review seriously puts it onto my want list. Great work!
I think that has always been the draw of Fujifilm. My A7RIII there is always work to do with the RAW files. But with Fuji the jpegs are so beautiful and it's lovely. I don't think I'd ever get a fixed lens fujifilm, but I will definitely get one.
The ND was added when the camera couldn’t synk at max speed. A problem that stuck with the line for a long time.
I would love to see you do a Leica Q3 review.
Its all about how it makes you feel. I have a substantial lineup of Leica M cameras and lenses, and im considering this just for that "easy to grab and throw in your pocket" aspect. looks much smaller than the Q2 which would be my obvious choice.
I still regret selling mine sometimes. Hope we'll see a new X100 in 2023
That's what i've been hearing! That would be rad
I dont want any other camera but this one, it makes me go out and look for great pictures
I was newly able to order a x100v, and i have to say im incredibly excited to use it
Super hyped of course
I have yet to try the Ricoh's but I think at the end of the day, it comes down to price and usability for most
i'm honest i was searching for something to kill my hype for it
but now i can reason why and how much i want it
If Ricoh manages to fit IBIS into their GRIII cameras, it's hard to argue the same couldn't be done in the MUCH larger body of a X100.
I have seen the X-Pro3 in person and it looks really great
Man i can tell you really love and take pride in your artistic expression. this video is absolutely incredible! Subbed!
Thank you for noticing! My buddy and I really tried harder on this one. Appreciate the comment!
Extremely well produced video, great review!
Great video and thank you for making it! What case do you use with the X100V when you travel?
The V is hyped, especially on youtube. Fujifilm did a great job with that. Even the F is now hard to get. I love my F !
Definitely lots of hype. Maybe too much. But nonetheless, great camera and the whole X100 line is awesome!
Great take ! Got one waiting for on Christmas !
I was looking to purchase this camera since April of 2021 with no luck as it's always been out of stock. Ended up picking up a Ricoh gr iii x this July and have no regrets. Kind of glad I went this route as this camera easily fits in my cycling jersey pocket.
Could have just waited for x100VI next year.
The GRlllx is incredible.
The X100V reminds me of two classic film cameras: The Olympus 35SP and the Minolta Hi-Matic 7s. Both are now the digital X100V.
You already know this, but you nailed the aesthetics in this video Ed 🔥
Thanks so much!

As someone with an X70, I appreciated reading this!
I agree with all your points. Thanks for taking the time to write this out for others!

@@phillipstone2563 I really miss it! But the X100V is like the X70 on steroids. lol
I'm still using the OG X100 😉
Really great video about the x100v.
I recently bought a 20K Sony camera setup, but I do want one of these small film-like cameras with buttons.
I always want to do Street Photography and have an everyday camera but always feel burdened by my mirrorless cameras. Maybe the X100v will solve this!
Yeah I was in the same position. I definitely think a compact point and shoot will solve that blocker for you. Doesn't have to be this X100V. So many awesome point and shoots out on the market now
GR 'cos it actually fits in your pocket
Very Good review, I was lucky to be able to order this camera at a sensible price :) x
Beautiful video! Thank you Edward!
Great video dude! Also can we talk about the talking head set up?!
Thanks Gene! I'm pretty stoked about the talking head set too. Was fun to switch it up a bit! haha
Film sims jpeg have been always also possible on Ricoh and Sony, and recently Panasonic,
plus now Leica Q3.
I love my x100v!

i clicked on the video thinking it would be an analysation of the hype and it turned out to be a review. you never know what you gonna get
Hi Edward, I love watching your videos man.
Edward! 🎈VERY NICE VIDEO! ...fix len, right?
Yes it's a fixed lens!
Great review! You said it all!
Cheers!
Thanks for your response and insight
I thought about that as well selling it as opposed to just returning it to B&H and getting my money back it's brand new I haven't even opened it 🤔
Thank u for that awesome video!
Thank you!
Yes! Love this camera for travel
Wow that is an interesting point. Thanks for sharing!
All these hype, yet the most important thing are photos and quality is just mediocre, while Sony rx1x or Leica Q are just amazing in quality.
Beautiful video and shots. What were you using to film the intro?
Shot this video mostly with the Sony FX3!
Politely disagreeing with most of the things said in this video:
1. The highlight roll-off of the Fuji X-Series cameras is not smooth and pleasing, but actually very harsh when shot in JPEG, even when making use of the provided in camera tone curve and dynamic range settings (because for most "film looks" you need to over-expose the images to make them look authentic)
2. The built in Film-Simulations don't look like film, but more like Instagram filters
(the images are optically flat/lack optical depth which you can actually get from full frame and bigger) and that is not a real "35mm film look" if the lens and medium's size does not align with what we are used to be seeing on REAL 35mm film, because the medium is smaller on Fuji X, the optics differ extremely (e.g. rear-lens-element-distance to the medium)
And adding it in post does not have the same effect, because you can't restore lost information in JPEG and it is also hard in RAW if it is completely blown out!)
