They are the most underrated band ever. Its a shame. They are fabulous!
Blue Oyster Cult is the MOST underrated, but yeah, GFR are because of rock critics. The audience LOVED them.
they sold more popular than the Beatles. they were a big, big deal for my generation. everyone had their albums.
@@LirienNieve eff Rolling Stone magazine, seriously lol.
"Can I turn this up some more?" Here I am nodding yes like a bobblehead.
Just three guys pouring out their souls through their instruments.
You've just discovered one of the greatest Rock & Roll bands in music history.
WilsonEatsASMR absolutely dude !!! 💯
Absolutely. It has been baffling to me for decades that this band is relatively unknown and not respected.
And NOT in the hall of shame go figure ; (
@@scottfunk2951 but ya know, who cares? Giving the RRHOF any credence is just serving their purpose. I disagreed with them initially because they weren't doing it chronoLOGICALLY. Some artists will die HAVE died before they get in. And remember it's only the RRHO FAME has nothing to do with acclaim. It's more political than Congress.
This song showcases the talent of these three men. Gotta practice, practice, practice...the last 2 mins show that very well. The transitions are amazing. This version is better than the recorded one.
Grand Funk is one the highest energy bands ever! Watch some more live songs.
Go and watch TNUC live 1975 like WOW man ; )
GFR! Another one of the greats from the Late 60s Early 70s. Thanks for picking this!
They pissed off the music industry by trying to get out of a really bad contract. They have been shunned for over 40 years. it's why they aren't in the RnR Hall of Fame.
"I'm Your Captain" - Shea Stadium 1971 - watch that one.
I did some research and found that they outsold in record time in NY and Led Zeppelin MGMT hated them as an opening act
Right on. They had a manager that was stealing from them and controlling all of the music they created. Should be in the Hall for sure, loved this group growing up. Shameful by the music industry.
Proof that you don't need this elaborate drum kit to be good..... it's all in the skill set. Don Brewer I just had it.
I believe even during the "major rock bands" era back in the late 60's and 70's there was and still is such a thing as "Rock n Roll snobbery"...if you get my meaning? I actually think there was some jealousy and deep resentments how fantastic and "RAW"GFR was live and always so much energy to their music. Playing second act for LZ one night and yet the audience didn't want GFR to leave the stage..the audience went wild and wanted more. By the time LZ started for the stage they were really pissed that GFR was so fantastic. It's said half the audience left the concert midway into LZ performance. I saw GFR in concert at the Forum in LA in early 70's. It was FANTASTIC PERFECT AMAZING! I've been to a lot of concert through the years saw and heard many famous groups and I have never and never will see anything as "raw" and so fantastic as Mark Farner and GFR!
Heartbreaker is also a jammer too
And written by Mark Farner, who really could "do it all"! Play, perform, sing and compose....
I like when Mark whipped out that harmonica...you were like: "What?" LOL Great reaction to a great tune by a stellar band...
They were the Upchurch of today and told the industry to kiss their ass. Very underrated group.
More GFR please"TNUC","foot stompin music","some kind of wonderful","I'm your captain/ closer to home","heartbreaker","paranoid","we're an American band" all are great songs by Grand Funk Railroad. ☮️
This is my favorite performance for someone who has never heard of GFR. Three fantastic musicians in the groove together. The drummer sings lead in quotes a few songs.
*MARK FARNER, The Guitar Player, Still Tours To This Very Day, STILL PLAYS AND SINGS THE SAME!!* The Best American 3 Piece Power Band Ever!!!!!! ..... 16 Hits Songs, Sold Out Shea Stadium Faster The The Beatles! ..... *Funky Rock To The Core*
Seeing them live in 1969 was incredible, a few times more. Video can't bring sound waves pounding your Body, Soul. Mark never compromised his music, real rebel to mainstream music. Now 70-year-old Rock Festival roadie during1969 from West Coast to East Coast.
If you liked this, you haven't seen nothing yet. Check out Grand Funk Railroad live in concert Los Angeles 1974. Heartbreaker is a great song. My wife and I were at this concert and it was EPIC.
I love this reaction. Not bad for three guys on the stage! They put on a crazy good live show and deserve more recognition.
"This band is legit" perfect. GFR has been so damn underrated by the powers that be in the music industry. They sold out Shea Stadium faster than The Beatles yet they have never gotten into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Damn shame it is. They have done one hell of a lot of great music & I look forward to seeing more reactions from you, Jayvee. Next maybe try "I'm Your Captain/Closer To Home", it is a slow paced song but one of their most well known.
And that was when to buy a concert ticket you had to go down to the place and stand in line...there was no internet to order your tickets.
OMG! I'm Your Captain/ Closer to Home is one of the greatest songs ever!
Saw them in 73...they are as soulful as it gets
hey blame it on rolling stone and the critics back in the day for not going in you know rolling stone is the part owner of the R@RHOF go figure. : (
And they were so impressive as the opening band for Zepplin, Peter Grant pulled the plug on them thinking they would upstage LED Zepplin
They did American Band, Some kind of wonderful, and also The Loco Motion
I’m 67, discovered GFR when I was 18.......the best three piece band ever....ever
I saw them live in 70, I was 18. Needless to say I started growing my hair out. They should be in the Hall of fame...period! Why aren’t they talked about, they are well know to we boomers, that were in to this stuff back in the day. Best show I ever seen. 😎
One of the greatest live bands ever! They put the “funk” in rock. Hence their name!
It's so beautiful to see somebody's first reaction to this beautiful collaboration of talent ,skill, artistry, passion, soul, rythm, blues ,rock n roll, and just plain good good music....I really enjoyed you're reaction, a true conosuier of beautiful music...on display
Im old, I've seen this band twice. One of my all time favorite Rock n Roll, funkadelic, bluesy, soulful bands of all time!!!! You picked the cream of the crop Band and song!!!!! The mic has been dropped!!!✌🎶🦋♥️🎤🎸🥁🎶🎶🎶
They have some awesome Funk in their music. I always thought they were underrated. But Legends as well. Listen to Some Kind of Wonderful, I'm sure you have had to heard that one at some point. Loco Motion is another well known song. They actually have a vast catalog of killer classic tunes. Thanks. And yes some kickin harmonica playing.
They were sure popular, but they didn't make it to rock and roll Hall of Fame. Had a bad contract then tried to get out of and that hurt their career unfortunately. But man I loved them in my teens. Love the soul funk sound. Farmer had one of those soulful sounds. And the guitars and drumming was always stellar.yes that harmonica was icing on the cake on this song.you were loving the sound too. I could see you at their concert Jayvee. Right?
@@mstewart109 the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is pretty much a joke in my opinion. There is alot of bands who have not been inducted that should be there, some there that shouldnt be.
They are definitely legit! Try "We're an American Band", "I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home", and "Some Kind of Wonderful". "We're an American Band" is a hard rocking tune while "I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home" is a long mellow groove and one of the prettier songs from the classic rock era.
Huh huh I've learned to watch your eyes at the right time. Saw that squint right off the bat. Mark's voice and their funky sound was fire. Also Paul Rodgers, BAD COMPANY, you'd like. Kick ass voice and killer tunes. "Feel Like Makin Love"😍 🎤🎸🥁
kj robbi yeah some bad company would be great! Paul Rodgers one of my favorites
I'm waiting on the arrival of my first great-grandchild. This is the music of my generation. We rocked. We rolled. We raised hell. We took no prisoners. We partied. 😄
We loved loved loved this band back in the 70s! After astounding success, eventually, they took some bad advice from record execs to make their sound more "commercial" and killed their spontaneity. In fighting between band members and that was all she wrote for the mighty GFRR.
I’ve listened to them play this song countless times and it still makes me smile and I still get goosebumps.
I LOVED these three guys when they first started out. They were such a cohesive unit, and I loved watching them interact with each other, giving each other clues as to what was coming next. Mark Farner, in my opinion, was the best front man in rock. This is my very favorite performance by them, and my very favorite live funk-rick performance EVER!
They do a song called Paranoid that’s real hard and heavy. It’s not the Sabbath song, check it out for us sometime!
It is great.
GFR was the best live band I've ever seen. And I've seen them all.
They sold out Shea stadium faster than the Beatles.
What is obvious is Mark and his voice and guitar, but the bassist, Mel, is setting the tone and holding everything together. His raunchy bass is so effortless you hardly notice it. One of the best live performances EVER! Love your reaction. Thanks
"HEARTBREAKER" AND "SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL" R SO WORTH CHECKING OUT FROM THEM !!!! 👍
Just a comment, most people notice the lead and drummer, but miss the bassist. Mel is so good that you miss it. He holds everything together. Love Mel! Great reaction. Cheers
One of my all time favorite bands growing up. I seen them live 5 times and they never disappointed. Got to meet them after one of there concert, alter cool and nice. You have to hear "I'm your Captain"
So underrated! They are one of my favorites!
Lead singer was 19 years old. My era. I was 15. Loved them
Possibly the best live performance ever posted on You Tube...ever! And from a 3 piece band. Absolutely amazing!!!!
Mark is still performing! They were awesome and hugely loved!
I gotta be proud to say these guys are my "homies", having come from Flint, Mi. and was blessed to have witnessed their mesmerizing concerts.
What a treat Jayvee. This band and lead singer has a blues sound. Loved this singer. Put his heart and soul into every song.
From Michigan.. loved Motown and soul and rock of course. Had a lot of hits in the 70s. Farner is talented as hell as was the rest of the band. Love the fat tone of the bass..
GFR!!!!
Next up,
FOOTSTOMPIN MUSIC
HEARTBREAKER (live)
WALK LIKE A MAN
Being from Detroit we rocked and partied with GFR everytime came back to town. Our answer to British invasion! Loved em!
They need to be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame, it's a crime they aren't! They are sooo good I remember them growing up in the 60's!! Get a petition up to get them in the HALL! I'm your captain, some kind of wonderful, come on!
Man, I love your reaction to some good music. I think you were born at the wrong time. Enjoy.
That BASS IS BADASS!!!!
I'm glad young people are discovering Grand Funk. We loved them during our high school years.
OH MY GOODNESS J!!!! Was checking out some of your older reactions...I was in high school graduating this very year 1969. GFR was 🔥🔥🔥. Your reaction was priceless!! The 60's & 70's were good times to be alive sooo much talent!!
Grand Funk was an amazing band back in the day. Mark Farner, the lead singer is STILL goin' strong and singing today in 2023....check him out...he's STILL amazing for his age!
One of my favorites in the early 70’s
3 master musicians individually but together pure chemistry. One of the most underrated bands of all time.
They were huge in the 70s. I was little the early 70s but have always loved them.
Your enjoyment never fails to make me smile!
I do rejoice when the younger people be jamming on the Railroad. But I been jamming on the Railroad since the early seventies. When they were doing this. And people from all walks of life loving it. Im a 60 year old black man and bass player from the south. This music is still great to listen to. And they have a lot more. Never get old. Legendary Rock Group. Songs: All are live Im speaking of. Studio is great too but I like to hear them live. The song, "Paranoid".... "Closer to Home"....."We are an American band" studio version sounds good on that one"........."Black Brass Band" great one, instrumental but you will feel it!........."TNUC"........"Got this thing on the move"..... And "Walk like a man"!!!!! And this is just a few of them!!!✌✌
Thank you so much for introducing this awesome band to the new generation. They had the best combination of soul and hard rock. Amazing live!! Their early stuff is the best!
Been watching these guys since the 70's. Now you know what we all knew. Been to 5 of their concerts. Great fun band!
Rock and roll Hall of fame, just on this song alone.
Love it. One of my favorite reactions ever. Definitely matches the song.
Some Kind Of Wonderful Thumbs up! Love to see your reaction to this one. grand funk
I grew up listening to these guys and NOTHING yet can compare !!!
Excellant
Another great from back then was Alvin Lee and Ten years after may need to check them out.
Check out their performance at Woodstock!
Yep.
They are the first live concert I ever went to in 1970. Still my favorite band when I watch them from back in the day. Too bad the drummer and bass player screwed over Mark Farner (guitar player, singer, harmonica player, organ player) and started touring without him a few years ago, keeping the band name and not allowing Mark to use the band name by going through the courts and tricking him to sign a paper. Mark Farner is Grand Funk Railroad. There ain't no Funk without Mark Farner!!!
Best live performance ever!
Enjoyed your reaction. Fun to watch and as always, I love this band.
Loved this band since day one! I believe this song was from 1969, and I was so fortunate to grow up in a time when great bands were emerging, but these guys were my all time favorite. This is a cover from the original which was done by the Animals, but GFR put their twist on it, and made it their own. Welcome hon, to a time when music was real music. When singers had voices, and "real" instruments were played. Everything they did, was amazing, and Heartbreaker is another must listen to. Thanks for being open to learning about new (old) music.
Three excellent musicians and what a beautiful sound for a three piece band. Mark Farner also plays the organ. They are still touring in 2020.
Mark tours with his band , I have seen them . And Don and Mel tour with their band and I have seen them .
Mark and his band are better . but I think Mark should sing just Mark Farner songs at his concerts and Don should sing just Don Brewer songs at his concerts … They both have equal amount of hits and songs .
VERY UNDERATED, FANTASTIC BAND !!!! YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO MORE OF THEM 👍👍👍
Having a bass and trying to play, hehe. This drum and bass is so good.
This is one of the greatest live performances EVER
can you believe that this sound is from a TV studio live only from 3 guys playing that just amazing
Grand Funk Railroad is the best I want to see them in 1973 when I was 16 years old in Detroit at Cobo Arena since they are from the area everyone was really really hype they performed this song as well as many many more of their hits they are from Flint Michigan originally what doctor start really in Detroit which is right down the road check out more of their music one of my favorites as a song called loneliness and people that stop the war which is from their album e pluribus funk
Great reaction !! If you ain't moving after that song, you better get your pulse checked. I saw them twice in '71, and they had everybody ROCK'IN, Chicks dug them !! And they never failed to bring the house down !! They left it ALL onstage. Everywhere... Everytime !!
I LOVE it when young people venture out and highlight music from the past! God bless you!!!!! Where is your merch? I will SUPPORT those who support music from the past!!
This performance was recorded in Hershey, PA at the Hershey Community Center by WITF-TV channel 33 (PBS station) in 1969 for their show titled "The Show". There were only a few handfuls of people watching it live.
Out of this world! They’re amazing!
They should of been in the R&R Hall game a long time. Mark is a Great musician and person
Every American teen owned that red album and played air guitar! Knew exactly that bass goes back and forth. Sexiest shit ever!
Happy happy happy face Jayvan🥰 this band was ❤️🔥
They are one of the best rock bands ever! Underrated!
I love Grand Funk. Saw them in 71 at the Forum in L.A. on a half a tab of Orange Sunshine. And at the Joint at the Hard Rock in Vegas. Up close.
I saw them in concert at Cobo Hall in Detroit, MI in 1971 after I got home from Vietnam. My older brother took me.. they with a band named Bloodrock who opened for Grand Funk.. great concert... just FYI.. the bands name derived from a railroad system in Michigan named The Grand Trunk RR.. they are originally from Flint, MI.. try the songs Heartbreaker, I’m your captain, TNUC,and Paranoid.. later hits are Locomotion, Some Kind of Wonderful and We’re an American Band..
3 guys!!!! They were really loud and funky.
for me, this is THE number 1 rock and roll performance ever.
I say that on the criteria of , I believe Rock and Roll is about pure fusion of energy between muscians in an epic beat filled force of pure will.
This song, this tempo, groove, beat, up and downs, lyrics, vocals holy crap. Its got everything.
I think is the the best rock and roll song ever. On pure rock, not artistic, not musically correct nor ever played. Its oozes guts and glory.
Thanks! Never heard about this band before! They are good!
It cracks me up every time I hear the polite clapping of the small audience sitting on the floor. Really you couldn't make it up.....: )
Congratulations from Perú, this band is amazing, people let's stop the war is a great song
You've got 3 Master's @ work here, bloody brilliant. I read that Mark Farner the Singer/Guitarist & the Drummer were 21 years old here & the Bassist was 19 yrs old. So like I said they're bloody talented!
Get the FUNK!!!!!! TRAIN coming down the railroad track baby
GRAND FUNK ..."FOOT STOMPIN MUSIC"
His guitar is in the rock and roll Hall of Fame museum!! 🐘🐘
Grand Funk and Allman Brothers ... two of the greatest ever ... when it comes to three piece bands Grand Funk hands down ... MY GEN Rock on
You just popped open a great big can of awesome dude! Hope you do more from their catalog of music!
They opened up for Zeppelin in NY and the crowd went nuts So zeps manager told GFR'S MANAGER TO GET THEM OFF STAGE N GO (for good)..I Love them a long time..Keep On Rockin my friend ✌💜🎧
They are the definition of underrated, really.
They should be talked about more. So glad I was a teen then. They made a 3 piece sound like so much more. They did eventually get a keyboard player as well. You should react to their song Locomotion
