The "band" on his arm is him acknowledging his Native American ancestry- he has been honored by the Lakota Sioux and by the Cherokee for his contributions to Native Americans.
Its amazing how many people don't know that, how else but an attitude of the Cherokee and a respect of and patriotism, most importantly I found out he's a man who loves God and Jesus, I believe the combination of all this is the only way to get past the most disgusting betrayal a man can experience, in the music world at least.
I was raised being told I was Sioux but it turns out I am not native but part black instead. I had fun doing Indian guide as a child instead of being a cub scout. I respect the culture even if it isn't part of my ancestry!
Long ago they were due, they got snubbed every year but I just discovered that Mark Farmer's guitar is in the hall of fame, but the guy playing it with the other 2 other guys has the guitar in but not him. Is it me or is that a slap upside the head to us all who are invested with GFR, Mark is ripped off by Don and that is fu*ked up... They play Mark's music and he gets kicked out of the band, then they play Marks music and still call themselves Grand Funk. You're a piece of shit Don and FU to Mel for letting it happen.
Let's pretend it's the 60's and start a write campaign?!!!!! Like my brother says" Micheal Jackson'in the R&R HOF and he even called himself the King of Pop?!! Go figure what they're thinking?!!!!
Adrian Belew (from across the Ohio River from Cincinnati--where Iive--in Ludlow Kentucky) started teaching himself guitar when he was forced to be home from school getting over a bout of mono.
Jamal, I’m a grandmom!! But I was a wild child of the 70’s. This was my favorite group, which drove my mother crazy! I played there album all the time! Thanks Bro for recognizing their incredible funk!
Later, around 1973/74, GFR added keyboard player Craig Frost. This performance includes his keys and bg vocals. There's a terrific live recording, pre-Frost, of the trio doing this song. Damn, they were good.
This is what we loved in the late 60's and 70's 3 players could is all it took. Others added more keyboards and on. Time to LIVE Life and Music! Grand Funk says it ALL! Still love to this Day. Glad you like it as much as We do.
The critics HATED them. The fans LOVED them. I first heard them at a 7th-8th grade dance. "Foot Stomping Music" was the song. I've been a fan ever since.
5 piece actually. Snare, rack tom, 2 floor toms, and a kick. You are very correct when you say more does not mean better. Brewer was a BEAST on the drums.
" Crap boo boo doogie" you nailed it. And yes, it has been an embarrassment of musical riches for those of us who came up in life with the 60's and especially the 70's as the soundtrack of our lives. Makes my heart happy when the younger generations discover the music and see how awesome it all was, and still is. Really great music never dies. That's why I appreciate you and your reactions. Rock on Jamal!
Grand Funk is from Flint, Michigan. I grew up in Detroit during their rise to fame. "Inside Looking Out" was my first rock-crush in 1971-2. Funk is in their name for a reason. These boys got soul! They were huge amongst Black kids in the D. The best part is, Mark Farner is a regular guy. They TOTALLY belong in the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame.
Another great one from Grand Funk!!! He (Mark Farner) always wore that band on his arm and I never saw him in a shirt but, that was fine with me! I've had the hots for him for over 50 years!!! 😘
Back in the day you went to bed on Friday's listening to FM stations playing whole albums and rock concerts of all these great bands. At least that's how I fell asleep at night.😊😊😊😊😊
Farner wrote songs as well as played several instruments, this band is so underrated. They made sales because of their live shows since their songs were longer than most radio formats they weren't played as much. hey don't judge clothes we were all wearing polyester clothes. his mother was Cherokee so the arm band was probably a nod to that. They were greet in concert. Not sure why not in hall of fame, I think suing their manager didn't sit well with some of the corporate types although their manager should have been sued for taking advantage of them.
What their manager did to them was horrible, and he should have been, well they won't let me say it! He literally took all the bands instruments, put them in the semi and drove off with them! They had to start all over! It was a big mess in the day. But with this talent you can't stop them! Fantastic!
@@larryt8420 Terry Knight got caught up in karma.. He died in 2004 when his teen-aged daughter's boyfriend Donald A. Fair murdered him... He was stabbed multiple times by the boyfriend.
Terry was a P.O.S. He took 16% And stole the band's publishing rights. They found out and fired him 3 months before their contract expired, and HE sued them for 53 million. A special place for him...
Thank you Jamal! Love your videos. It does my 67 year old heart good to see that the music I grew up listening to is still appreciated by a younger generation. It is a travesty that Grand Funk is not in the Hall. Again, thank you and keep up the good work.
I was fortunate enough to be a teenager when Grand Funk Railroad was performing and cutting records. They were THE band with me and my friends. I am so glad that you and others are getting to hear and appreciate the music that some of us grew up with. They most definitely deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 🎸
One other thing I wanted to add...when I saw them in Tampa (when they FIRST came out in 1969 when I was 16) I have never, to this day, ever saw such a stage presence as this band gave. Mark Farner was all over that (I'd say about 100 foot) stage, and I was exhausted just watching him. Farner gave everything he had to his audience - and THAT'S why they were such a gigantic force in the music world....he left it all on that stage. When I left the packed (HUGE) concert Hall...there must have another 100,000 fans at the doorway trying to get in. Grand Funk Railroad was amazing...
Thank you for bringing back memories with my Dad listening this band, specially with this song. It's our favorite, my Dad told me was released 6 years before I was born. He raised me listening to this kind of music and I am doing the same with my babies. Thank you and keep doing your great job. I love the way you enjoy the music 😁🤗😁🤗😁
Craig Frost added another dimension to this already incredible band ! Loved the way he played -- added so much to each and every song. Saw them in New Haven CT on the "Shinin' On" tour, opened by Wet Willie of "Keep on Smilin' " fame. Great show !!!
That's interesting, cause remember that little talk he did on the live album ..where he said something to the effect of..."Brothers and sisters..there are people out there that look like your brother and sister. .uhhhh, but they're not. When they hand you something....don't take it. Don't take it-OK?" Love these guys. Appreciate ya brother Jamal. Really enjoy your reactions.

GFR had added a keyboard player by this song, another favorite. Mark's voice is always on point, along with the musicianship of every single player in this band.
The keyboard player was actually also in the pre-GFR band that was lead by their manager Terry Knight. There 3 songs that became GFR staples that were recorded in 1968 when they were named The Pack. Into the Sun was one of the 3. It was Terry Knight and The Pack, but then Terry stepped back and managed them and their name changed to Grand Funk Railroad.
Mark played keyboards and guitar on many of their early songs prior to Craig Frost. The man was the ultimate front man. And he's still rockin in his 70's.
Another band. That put their soul into the music is from the same era. Ten Years After. Check out their performance at Woodstock. Song called I Goin Home. Thanks for what you do Jamal
Crap boo boo doogie😂😂😂 I'm so glad I was a teenager in those wicked 70s! Grand Funk was a fixture on our scene daily, thanks so much for reacting to these amazing gents❤🙋🇺🇸

This was a great band. I'm 56 and grew up on this music. American band, locomotion and a lot of others that I like that weren't played to much on the radio.
Raw, pure, talented sound. No auto tune, computerized synchronizers or sound machines. This is when it was real! These guys carried me through rough times and lifted me through great ones! Thanks for the review.
I love that you reacted to GFR's different types songs. They are so much more than "We're An American Band" and it is wonderful to see so much of their music on your pages. Stay safe and keep rocking.
That was great! The kind of dancing he did was the only kind of dancing for this kind of music! Just moving all over the place to release that pent up energy. Great reaction, Jamel!
The song and performance was just beautiful, of the performances I have seen. None have been bad or sloppy, everyone unique, creative and they the mastery of the craft. BRAVO GFR, modern bands can take lessons from you as to how a rock band should do things on stage.
Told ya !!! I was one of the ones who requested a reaction to this song. Every time I hear this I am immediately taken back to my teen years seeing GFR in concert in Shreveport Louisiana. Thank you Jamel !!!!
Just a great singer and band. When you can belt it out like that and stay on tune you're a true singer. None of that auto tune crap for these guys. Just true musicianship. I discovered them at 12 years old and never looked back.
I've been waiting on you to do this one! Great review! I love how you can come from a different place in time and enjoy the music I spent my teens and early twenties with! I never passed up a chance to see them as long as it was in driving range and bought everything they put out! Boy could Mark wail! Oh and so could Don Brewer! He not only done back up vocals but lead on several songs. Both he and Mark had great follow up bands. Not really sure if Mell Schacher did much after this but I feel like he could have wrote his ticket after this in any event! Great stuff!
I saw then live twice in the early 70's here in Toronto. The first time at Maple Leaf Gardens when they were a power trio, the second time was at Varsity Stadium after they added Craig Frost on keyboards. Both shows rank among the best concerts I've ever been to. Mark Farner is the ultimate rock n roll frontman. Carl Brewer is one of the most underrated drummers in rock history, man did hit hard, and SANG while doing it! Mel Schacher on bass was like rolling thunder, but he stayed in the background and let Farner do his thang. Craig Frost added much to their live shows with his keyboards. The live sound was fuller with him added, and allowed Farner more room to wail. btw, this was the first song I learned to play all the way through on guitar, and it was the first song I ever played live with my first band at age 16 in 1972. It was a high school 'battle of the bands' held at my high school. We won.
I love that you love GFR as much as I do! I've always been a bit shy of about admitting my love of 70's rock n roll...but my parents listened to everything and everyone and I appreciate that for the gift it was. Thanks for taking me down memory lane with a smile!
Pure energy. They are arena rock at it's best. They had a lot of legal problems with their original manager which kept some of their music off the radio. One of the best American rock bands of all time and glad you enjoy listening to them.
Can you dig it? Mark Farner and the boys killin it! I saw them at the Flint IMA in 1971, along with Albino Brothers ( Jonnie & Edger Winter ) and Rick Derringer. Oh what a night!
I bought their first live album in ‘73 when I was 12. 47 years later I still play it regularly. That is saying something. Check out “paranoid” from that album.
My favorite grand funk railroad lp,s is on time and we’re an American band .and closer to home and live .cought in the act . Now that’s ROCK AND ROLL .ENJOY AND THANKS .I KNOW GRAND FUNKS MUSIC SINCE 1971 AND STILL LOVE IT .
We used to put on a different GFRR record for every emotion we had. From blues to in love or just got nothing to lose . Concert 1971 in KCMO, Mark has me in awe of his harmonica performances
Great job, Jamel!! Love your reactions! I have to make the same comment I made on your other Grand Funk video. Hope you don’t mind... Great Video! 🚂 💨 🇺🇸 GFR SHOULD BE IN THE HALL OF FAME! 🚂 💨 🇺🇸 Between 1969 and 1972 Grand Funk earned 8 Gold albums in a row without the benefit of a top 20 hit. Since then 3 of those albums have gone Platinum and 2 more have reached Double Platinum. After 72 they went on to have major commercial success with 6 top 20 hits in which 2 of those hits reached number 1!! Many groups have stated they were influenced by Grand Funk. Mark, Don & Mel!! And Craig too! 🎹 🚂 💨 🇺🇸
Jamel, it's been so much fun to see you enjoying this truly great classic rock performances! There's something in the music of the GFR that's close to perfection, maybe because they weren't seeking that perfection, instead they just played as they felt from their guts.
Greetings from Oregon. We love ya Jamal. Thanks for keeping great rock and roll alive for the urchins. C'mon Cleveland..step up! All our best you and your family.
I just got done watching your reaction to Grand Funk RR/ Heartbreaker again, and I'm loving you being blown away by them. I've always thought they were one of the most under appreciated bands of all time. It's a travesty that they aren't in the R & R Hall of Fame. This music is 50 years old now and still doesn't get old. By the way, Mark Farner's costume choice predates the Ultimate Warrior by probably 10-15 years, LOL.
I grew up listening to Grand Funk through my father. He died of Cancer eight years ago. We listened to a lot of music together in his last days. One of his favorites was 'Mean Mistreater'... a great song. I would love to see you react to it.
Yeah they put on a great performance they were a party Band and people love them I sure did and the girls that love them I love them too hahaha I love watching these videos with your brother I really do you always get a smile on my face

Mark wrote Heartbreaker when he was 16 recovering from a football injury and mom got him a guitar to pass the time... which started it all!

You got it, especially in this same concert where they do the song T.N.U C, and Don goes into a drum solo.
Don is one of my all time favorite drummers. So raw and powerful. A huge influence in my playing.
limitations excel creativity
are you referring to neil pert........ LOL
Grand Funk Railroad should be in the rock & roll hall of fame !!!

The three false endings were like standard for hard rock bands in the 1970s.
I don't know if they were ever executed more successfully than in this song. Those were three legitimate endings.
They all did 2-3 encores as well
Thank you Jamal. i'm gonna buy me some vinyl this weekend!!!!
you have such a lovely face. it's fun watching you get so happy
THIS GUYS NEED TO BE IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME
YEAH Jamel, you did "Heartbreaker"!!
Can you dig it? Mark Farner and the boys killin it! I saw them at the Flint IMA in 1971, along with Albino Brothers ( Jonnie & Edger Winter ) and Rick Derringer. Oh what a night!
Johnny and Edgar Winters and Grand Funk as a double bill..I already regret missing that concert. A great line-up.
I went down and liked a bunch of your comments and I couldn't agree more! GFR should be in the Hall of Fame. Peace and love to all fans!!!!
Great song. Great reaction. Your description of today's music is spot on.
So glad you enjoyed the music of my youth. Now you know why so many old(er) people walk around just grinning from ear to ear. The music follows us.
Your channel is going off! Love it!
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
That harmony...damn!!! This is one of my favorites by GFR. Hair, clothes, can tell it's the 70s.
There is an old song whose lyrics says it all...today's music ain't got the same soul, as that old time rock'n'roll.
This is when going to concert was so much fun
We used to put on a different GFRR record for every emotion we had. From blues to in love or just got nothing to lose . Concert 1971 in KCMO, Mark has me in awe of his harmonica performances
You are in our Rock of Fame...God bless you Bro...
Great song and what a performance, what's not to love.
Great job, Jamel!! Love your reactions! I have to make the same comment I made on your other Grand Funk video. Hope you don’t mind...
Great Video!
🚂 💨 🇺🇸
GFR SHOULD BE IN THE HALL OF FAME!
🚂 💨 🇺🇸
Between 1969 and 1972 Grand Funk earned 8 Gold albums in a row without the benefit of a top 20 hit.
🚂 💨 🇺🇸
Jamal, God loves you that’s why he let you hear grand funk this late in your life. You are a treasure to music.
Never gets tired playing this song over and over again on vinyl including the track Inside looking out. Both masterpieces
FANTASTIC BAND, THE PASSION THEY PLAY WITH IS 2ND TO NONE !!! HOW ARE THEY NOT IN THE HALL OF FAME ( THATS A DISGRACE )
Jamel, it's been so much fun to see you enjoying this truly great classic rock performances! There's something in the music of the GFR that's close to perfection, maybe because they weren't seeking that perfection, instead they just played as they felt from their guts.
Man!!! You are the best reacting to the best songs in the world, greetings from Peru
Greetings from Oregon. We love ya Jamal. Thanks for keeping great rock and roll alive for the urchins. C'mon Cleveland..step up! All our best you and your family.
GFR was seriously one of the greatest Rock& Roll bands of all time.
Wow
Just wow
I have seen so many live performances on this channel that I had no idea even existed.
Watching your reaction makes this music even better. These guys were the shit back in the day.
I've never seen this performance by GFR of Heartbreaker. Best ever.
No one ever told GFR just one more time, with feeling.... they always bring it all !
Much better live than in the studio with this band. Their performances are legendary.
I had never seen that before. Incredible. I am 65 also & grew up with this music.
