I actually think mushroom planters are really worth it. Living logs in the mid to late game are abundant, and the most expensive part of the whole craft, ironically, is the manure. Setting up around 10 planters or so should be enough to get you veggie filler for an entire year during one season alone. Plant your shrooms in autumn, bundle them in winter, and use them for cooking whenever you need pierogis.
if you are mid to late game just go get the stone fruit bro. no need for manure and can store stacks of stacks on the ground without killing bee queen. the only thing it requires is a flingo if you want to get it working on summer, but you can ignore summer altogether because of how many stacks you got of stone fruit on the ground that you can mine.
Personally what I do, is because I play wendy and solo I just wait for hound wave, kill hound wave, take meat, go store meat in fridge or salt box and mine the 100 stacks of stone fruit i have lying on the ground, and make meatballs. it's so lazy and so good because I have to do absolutely almost 0 input and walking around. if i want to kill a boss i just go genocide spiders, give monster meat to bird then make pierogi with the stone fruit. The only situation where mushroom planters might be viable is on 2+ player servers if there are not a lot of stone fruit bushes in the beginning, but late game (300 days +) you should be able to feed 8 people only by spider genocide and stone fruit, and save that sweet sweet living logs for your sword needs.
For the bee catching you could just bring an ice staff, clean up around the bee hive to not spread fire and just burn the hive and you'll have enough time to first catch all the bees then put the fire out and break them for the comb it even works in winter for an easier and faster method of collecting bees
I think mushrooms are definitely worth mentioning, they make for great vegetable/filler that's available nearly everywhere in the early game and knowing about the effects of blue and green mushrooms can be a lifesaver.
@@djnazgra uncooked blue mushrooms heal for a good chunk, but you lose some sanity, cooked they give you some sanity but you lose a little bit of health instead. Uncooked green take off a massive chunk of sanity (very nice for getting nightmare fuel for example) and cooked they restore a good amount of sanity. Red mushrooms are not worth using for anything else other than as a vegetable crockpot filler, although that alone makes even them worth picking in most cases. So mushrooms are very flexible and easy to find, especially if you find a mushroom circle or go down into the caves. Mushroom forests are also usually in the harmless part of the caves, so if you for some reason need stacks of them, that's an easy way to get a ton of them. Though be careful in the blue mushroom forest because of the infested mushtrees.
16:37 the main reason you would make "trail mix" over any other healing food would be because it use the 1 handed animation (berry eating speed) that is faster, then the typical 2 handed animations (meat eating speed) fore other heling food that is WAY slower when it comes to healing in combat, through you can still argue over if it is wort the effort to get before an boss fight or not based on this knowledge.

I have a server with my partner, and I decided to play Wendy, as bee farms are just things I like. However, when we based (near a swamp, as she plays Wurt) we noticed there were 3 killer bee fields right beside our base. As a Wendy player, we don't even need anything besides the honey generated from the killer bees. So its enough to keep us going. Killer bees aggro in winter too, as well as at night. So we literally never starve just from killer bees and nothing else is needed for food. The fact it takes so long to spoil is just a side effect. The drop rate for honey may be low, but when you have hundreds of killer bees just waiting to be killed every few minutes more than makes up for it.
I remember when I played dst with my friend, I played wendy and every day i would just go to a frog biome, rile her up, and then wed be swimming in frog legs. So much so wed use more legs than filler in our recipes

I have found that my kids loose interest quickly when they die four days into a game trying kill frogs or spiders. Or get to winter only to freeze to death looking for food and something to replace flowers for maintaining sanity.
My personal source of food in this game are raccoons they drop one meat but they do respawn fast I think like evan less than a day but it's hard to find them.
You really dont need that many bee boxes, I've lived comfortably with just 3 for years now. I like to get atleast 2 boxes setup early for Honey Ham, two nets is all you need for that. As for ocean fishing you really dont need to sail much at all, all you really need is one driftwood for a Tackle Receptacle. If you live near the ocean just keeping an eye out for schools of fish swimming by and catch a few from the safety of the shoreline. If you want big fish Shoals are the place to be, I found the Bass in those plentiful and easy to catch.
I tend to do things in bulk so my bee area would have at least 10 boxes there. Making things like volt goat chaud froid or powdercakes requires having heaps of honey on hand but for surviving, yes, you of course don't need that many.
hey demon rebuilt can u make a vid explaning the caves and the type of stuff someone can get from there and the different biomes there, cuz i have been encountering weird stuff that i dont even know how to deal with. would much appreciate if u did :)
If you said that farms are now overall better, fine i'm not going to agree but i won't argue, it's different. But to say that new farms are better in **every way** is wild. Before the farms were changed, crops didn't need tending, didn't need tilling, didn't need watering, crops could grow from *any* light source, and you could get back more seeds and basic seeds from feed the crops to birds, and you could easily take a trip to the muddy biome in the caves and came back with 100 light bulbs to feed to a werepig and use the poop to grow crops very quickly on old farms. There are **many** ways that old farms were better, new farms are only better at taking up less space, fewer resources to build, and growing in winter.
What? Compared to nowadays the old farms sucked way too much. You don't need to tend the crops at all, with 4 or more of the same crop on the right season you just have to talk to them ONCE and go do anything else to guarantee a crop + seed when you comeback, all that tending is only needed if you want to go out of your way for giant crops. Also now the seeds from the bird are consistent, no more RNG that makes you having to spend half your crops to sustain your farm. Not to mention that with only one garden digamajig (3 boards, 2 ropes and 2 flint) you can enough farm soil for 36 crops, compare that with the old farms where 360 grass 216 manure and 144 rocks were needed to wield that same amount. While it takes some time to get the specific seeds, you don't have to play Wicker or waste your time collecting light bulbs to make them viable, I legit can't see how the old farms were better in any other way than maybe decoration.
in spring I use a boat with 7 fleshy bulbs then go get honey and cook leafy jelly. Also some worlds have no saplings to combat this plant alot of twiggy trees or go to lunar island and get those saplings
3:40 as noobie my mind is either empty cuz idk what to do now or realizing am f**ked because I wasn't doing anything when my mind was empty and am late and dead. Am just trying to understand the game so farming/cooking remembering every food raw/cooked status+cooking to get the best recipes for the time and the ingredients its just to much. until then berry farm and monster meat is enough But yeah I still always make a farm even though I always forget it and find a lot of forget me-a-lot And I do use the pig farm until someone hero came to help me a lot and he showed me even a better way to make a pig farm Maybe I am not a noobie anymore ;-; am getting closer to being an average player
Important tip: when planting your water tree seeds in those little gaps, just make sure you can fit a boat next to it. I mean right up against it. Being on a boat is the only way you can fertilize the knobbly trees so they'll grow. We made the mistake of putting one in a gap then removing the boat only to realize we couldn't reach it to fertilize it and had to go get ANOTHER tree nut.
Farms are not worth the hassle at all. Having bunch of berry bushes and 5 or more bee hives completely fulfills your food supply needs - and takes less time to set up and maintain. The only downside is a slight problem with HP restoration, but rushing lunar island for rock bushes allows you for basically infinite beefy greens/pierogies, especially when you set up a pig farm (Usually in the middle of first winter). It's a very good alternative if you dont like farming.
Not mentioning Wobster Nests is a travesty. I love to base near them because each Wobster counts as a full fish in the Crockpot so if you are playing Wickerbottom, Surf n' Turf is super easy to obtain consistently. If you need powerful healing food Throw 1 Wobster, 1 Ice, and 2 Twigs in a crock pot and get a quick 60hp Wobster Bisque. If you are playing as Warly you can use Wobsters in Moqueca which is disgusting. Alternatively let them rot completely for more Bone shards or Bone Bouillon (again if Warly). While I main Wormwood I still like to play near Wobsters because I also like the clickity clack noise they make. Wobsters come out at dusk and leave in the day but each nest spawns 2 Wobsters at a time so if you base near a pack of 2 or 3 nests you can easily keep yourself fed on them alone. Just be wary that you can only cook Wobsters alive so I like to make a boat and have a few Tin Fishing Bins on the boat to keep the Wobsters alive until they are ready for consumption.
I honestly had forgotten about wobsters completely. I never catch them unless I'm feeling fancy or need them for a collection of fish. Perhaps I should consider them more.
personally, I think fishing is very worthwhile if you find a shoal of fish. You can fish up a ton of deep bass, which give you 1 big fish piece each. It's fairly easy to catch them, and they spawn way more frequently compared to other fish types.

@@lol_dab okay but Abigail can solo a literally INFINITE number of spiders (Granted, a literally infinite number of spiders isn't exactly a realistic thing that someone would encounter.)

I love using wobsters to make surf and turf and bisque, and lobster dinner, if I happen to get butter. They're much easier to find and catch than deep ocean fish, and they last forever in the fishing bin, which I stick on the same boat as my lureplants near my camp.

I always play with "starting variety" set to "classic" so I always have plenty of twigs to collect.
Very good video, thank you for all the info
3:40 as noobie my mind is either empty cuz idk what to do now or realizing am f**ked because I wasn't doing anything when my mind was empty and am late and dead.
Am just trying to understand the game so farming/cooking remembering every food raw/cooked status+cooking to get the best recipes for the time and the ingredients its just to much. until then berry farm and monster meat is enough
But yeah I still always make a farm even though I always forget it and find a lot of forget me-a-lot
And I do use the pig farm until someone hero came to help me a lot and he showed me even a better way to make a pig farm
Maybe I am not a noobie anymore ;-; am getting closer to being an average player
Honey is the best. I can't seem to not have a garden tho
Love the new farming! Also thanks for so many videos.
Dude bunny traps are a great consistent easy morsel farm for early game and they don't even gen mentioned?
Farms are not worth the hassle at all. Having bunch of berry bushes and 5 or more bee hives completely fulfills your food supply needs - and takes less time to set up and maintain. The only downside is a slight problem with HP restoration, but rushing lunar island for rock bushes allows you for basically infinite beefy greens/pierogies, especially when you set up a pig farm (Usually in the middle of first winter). It's a very good alternative if you dont like farming.
Farming is more effort for more reward. If you can't be bothered, then stone fruit is a fantastic option and one that I use regularly.
You are very wrong.
Day 562 and keeping my old far was the best choice I've made all year
I was lucky enough to have 2 Volt Goats spawns near my base, don't even have to move em
Once again, good and efficient way to play! Great job buddy :D
Mad helpful man!
Thx for this this will help my friends a bunch :D
Yeah until Big Bird gives you a nice bitch slap
@@Bruh-pk6ei extra meat :D
@@evanchoo6638i fish a lot in the shoal too since deep bass are literally the easiest fish to catch in the entire game and give big meat , i literally swim in surf n turf every day now
did this dude really just advise people to do berry farms as wigfrid?
Yes and it's a great idea since berry can can be used as filler for most meat dishes and gobblers spawn from berry bushes giving even more meat
Special mention to warly:
Just eat 2 meaty stews every 2.7 days
Bone bullion if you got the onions
40 seconds in and I STILL have no idea how to get food in this game
You can starve only Together on multiplayer server
Hey bud better prepared. The eye of cthulhu is coming
Hey Demon, nice video. Quick question, what placement grid addon do you use?
Geometric Placement & Geometric Drop
im a wurt main, just crying at that video
Edges of the ocean would be land, genius.
Tomas are good fertilizer.
demonrebuilt, what can i do if i have a family of gnomes to feed? please help. sincerely, totally not a gnome enthusiast
If the gnome set pieces are anything to go by, it doesn't look so great for you.
Mushroom planters are very much worth it for Wonda players if you want a steady source of Green caps for sanity loss to farm nightmare fuel
Wanda's favourite food is taffy though! And this video is about not starving. You're allowed to get killed by terrorbeaks :)
@@DemonRebuilt true and yes she does love taffy. I mean they also give like 12.5 hunger as well lol besides the -50 sanity loss xD
Moral of the story: The ocean is just the wish version of the land
At 7.20 all the pigs are just running towards the middle. Why?
I think spiders are a food search worth mentioning. ESPECIALLY for Wendy.
the fact that wolf gang can 1 shot spiders makes wolfgang almost the same as wendy for spider mass genocide.
ive played for around 1000 hours with my wolfgang main friend and we just survive off of spiders and filler
@@lol_dab okay but Abigail can solo a literally INFINITE number of spiders
(Granted, a literally infinite number of spiders isn't exactly a realistic thing that someone would encounter.)
@@gaminggeckos4388 spiders have limited respawns per nest per day, so the benefit of using abigail is that it's just much faster to kill them.
also if you have 3 nests around each other. but you only will ever need 1 nest per person, I don't even bother setting up more. day 1400 world.
Aka the blender that you can buy at your local walmart
I love using wobsters to make surf and turf and bisque, and lobster dinner, if I happen to get butter. They're much easier to find and catch than deep ocean fish, and they last forever in the fishing bin, which I stick on the same boat as my lureplants near my camp.
What part is for beginners? The part about going to the moon? If ur making a video for beginners.. walk ppl through the beginning!! This video lives on the moon
Just trying to show all the options available. If some are outside of your wheelhouse, feel free to ignore for the time being, but this game has a habit of hiding really great options away from inexperienced players so I thought it would be useful to know what's out there.
5:22 Warly: Am I a joke to you
Wendy mains: Spider nest and bird cage.
pov: You are using the phone version
so a can use the bad One 😎
Pretend to hit a bunny man?? How do you pretend hit??

alternative, make big strong varg farm, than use gems to make monkey farm, result, infinite gems, monster meat, morsels, a crap ton of nightmare fuel, and ...........banana
Best way, farm mole!!!
what are the things keeping the krampus away in the last clip?
Fossil fragments. You can get them from mining stalagmites (sometimes) or spilagmites (guaranteed 1-2) in the caves.
FINALLY, NOW I GET TO DIE WITH ARTISTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can we have a list of the placement mods you are using?
Here are the main mods I use ► steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2203354924
I noticed snapping tiles, action queue and geometric placement in your mod list, I also employ these three but I cannot get them to let me queue seed planting on tilled farm plots, is there any configuration required to be able to do so?
How did you continuously cook those seeds without clicking on the campfire?

How did you get the seasons on the top right and that custom tool bar on the left?
The seasons are from the combined status mod (steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=376333686) and the tool bar is just how the game used to be. It changed last year to what we have now.
Starven't
ive given up! im a shameless ez mode player, i have turned off summer and winter and have made this a farming/ cooking game XD.
If bearger annoys me too much im turning him off too.
Which is the mod used to click & drag those seeds for planting? Was that Queued actions?

what is that mod's name the show circles when holding seeds

How to get backpack slots under normal inventory insead of right side ?
Check your game settings
i hate the fact that there is no engame equipment that never breaks its so anoying to keep on craft new items weapons armor all the time
The most recent update will make the new brightshade and void items better in that respect. They still break but you can repair them at a much reduced cost compared to crafting them again.
wendy mains: go to froggy areas in hotter seasons and just let abigail slaughter them for 40 frog legs every day 😜

In my playthrough recently the Hounds still chasing my ass down in the middle of the ocean my guy! I'm not sure it happened only to me or something else please anyone let me know
If you hear the hounds barking, they will come for you no matter where you go on the surface. If you're on a boat, they won't bark, but if you go on a boat after they've already started, it's too late.
