I honestly have no idea how a newbie is expected to remember all this information, while being able to effectively continue farming, exploring, and building. It's overwhelming.
A bit late but as a newbie and someone who learns a crap ton about games like these when I hyperfixate on them. You’re not expected to remember all this information. Take in the information that is most beneficial to you. If you’ve been struggling at fighting beefaloo, remember how many hits it takes to kite them. Something you can come back to and learn new things or resolve your struggles.
I hear ya. I try to focus on one season at a time and with each attempt, try to get through the next one. Pretty soon you're good at getting through fall, then winter and so on.
As he said at the start the game is best experienced blind figuring things out by yourself. Players eventually learn which things take priority like hunger and light, then making a base, preparing for next season, etc. etc. It's all trial and error, that's why each failed playthrough is a funny memory (at least, it is for me!)
1. Write notes about specific things you want to try. I limit myself to one sticky note at a time. 2. Only watch one season's worth of video at a time, the season you're about to be playing. (lmao why would anyone try to retain all this at once? You should have learned by now no human is capable of that; stop expecting it of yourself haha)
These comments make a lot of sense. But there's a reason newbies stand around the campfire all night - there's too much to think about. People need a moment to consider, and shuffle their inventory. The beginner guide here actually shows off a fight with KLAUS. KLAUS! Like. What?! I don't think there's a single beginner on Earth that can micro manage swapping between weapon and movement stick. And while getting familiar with insanity is, undoubtedly, a good thing. Many beginners won't want to deal with it, or can't. I think the Beginner guide was just a little bit iffy on a few topics.

I’m so glad my insomnia led me to your content! When I have trouble sleeping, I search up 100% speedruns or all bosses (for videos that last long enough for me to fall asleep to) of games that I’ve heard of, but am otherwise unfamiliar with and boom! I found you! Not only is your content wonderful to sleep to, as your inflection and volume stay relatively the same, it’s also just… really informative and fun to watch! Thanks for making content for daytime viewers and for us insomniacs!
i pass for the same and this vídeos help me alot, i let you a one more recommendation, has a channel named Summoning Salt, long videos about world record in games, its very good to watch until sleep
"Avoid fighting because it's a quick way to die" Fights multiple beefalo, clockwork creatures, the koalaphant, MacTusk _twice,_ every spider rather than just trapping them, recommends being insane for all those shadow creature fights, _then_ Klaus... before the video is half over. Seriously though, he seems to like the fighting alot, but there's _alot_ of good tips and info in this video, you can tell how good he is with this game. Very awesome.
Ikr, me and my friend were getting ready for Deerclops day 29 went to the swamp to have the tentacles help us and then winters feast Deerclops appeared and we had to run away from his stupid lazer >:(
I’m not sure if he mentioned this and I missed it, but if you somehow get 9 blue gems by a full moon before summer, you can fill each slot of chester with a blue gem on a full moon and he turns into ice chester. Which is just a walking fridge. You can swap out thermal stones from ice chester to keep cool
one thing to remember is taking care not to go into the sandstorm if hounds havent attacked in a while, having to kill a wave of them with a ton of sand in your eyes can wear you down really fast, if the goal is to survive being careful with their timing is really good to keep in mind.
Thanks for making this beginner video and showing how to kite properly! So many people are too scared of clopsy but you show how easy she is! Great job on showing them to use her for farming logs too! I usually plant more trees so she cuts down lots of trees and spawns tree guards to kill her, especially against winter feast clops who has lasers. Also a farming tip for those interested - Easy to remember for farming giant crops in winter; a one to one ratio of potato to tomato in a tile. Each tile can hold maximum 9 crops before overcrowding, we only want 8 crops in each tile for this. Plant four tomatoes and four potato in a single tile. These two plants compliment each others fertilizing needs, planting four of each in a single tile ensures the family bonus so all you have to worry about is watering every day and talking to them! when your giant crops are ready pick them and hammer them for all your food and seeds! Enjoy!
This is incorrect, this combo does not work in winter as tomatoes do not like winter so they grow slower meaning they won't supply nutrition to potatoes This combo only works in autumn and spring
Dude, this is one HELL of a guide and I'm absolutely gobsmacked at how perfectly paced and informative it is. I'd consider myself an intermediate who can survive pretty well, but can't fight bosses for shit xD please tell me you're doing an intermediate guide surrounding bosses/caves? This vid is already a gem
It's great to see people making new guides! Even if this stuff has been covered numerous times, it's nice to have a more up-to-date guide for newcomers to watch :] and it covers a lot! Excited for the next tier 👀
My one piece of advice is something I am surprised you didn't mention with Antlion is killing them isn't mandatory to avoid their wrath. If you need a bit more time to get ready, or want to avoid fighting them entirely, you can actually feed them foods they enjoy, and trinkets and such, and that can actually buy you time or allow you to avoid their wrath the entire summer. For those who want more time, don't have confidence, or just trying to do a pacifist challenge of some kind. *EDIT* just noticed your character tips video, nevermind.
Just a warning for newbies, especially those who just can't seem to get a handle on kiting: Klaus is very much not a beginner boss. It is a raid boss on par with Bee Queen, and is very difficult to beat. Only a madlad like Jakey should try doing this in his very first winter; I would recommend actual beginners wait until they have a Star Caller's Staff and multiple Dark Swords. Otherwise, this is a seriously incredible guide and something I wish I had when I started. I love it, and I think that with the sudden influx of Terraria players looking at DST because of the crossover, this guide will be invaluable to many new players!
I do agree that Klaus is not very beginner friendly, but he is by far the easiest RAID boss, and is the first a beginner should attempt, but I do see where you are coming from as if you do not prepare correctly your kinda screwed EDIT: if you can't grasp kiting as well, your dead as tanking klaus is a death wish
1:46:23 You can also use the tree guard strategy against Deerclops, it's a little bit harder because he doesn't destroy trees as easily but it's a very passive way to kill him if you suck at fighting
Probably one of the best beginner tip that he did not touched up on is yourself spawn two(or three) tree guards not very far from your base and pacify then by planting pines, then lure him to then. You can make this easily by only choping the dead trees, this way one flint axe usualy is enought to spaw 1 tree guard at winther. Two medium tree guards usually let him with less that 400 hp and some times even kill him, even two small tree guards can cost him more that 70% of his hp.
I have been playing this game with my sister for 6 days. The first night we died so many times, but before we went to sleep at 2 am. we ended up dying on the 11th day. This game is so fun, I really encourage everyone to try to play it, especially with a friend or a sibling! Just 10 min ago we died on our 24th night, which is the longest we have ever survived LOL. Dying honest does not make us feel sad or defeated, but makes us feel more excited! We are watching this video, and I feel like that your video would help us survive to 100 days! Thank u -3-
I'm currently following this guide to heart, and it's very overwhelming, but fascinating at the same time, I'm already getting better at not camping at campfires at night, figuring out what biome I'm on, and what things to grab and leave behind, obviously I'm nowhere near intermediate yet, not even in winter yet but just goes to show how good ur explanation is! Thank you very much for this guide
I love watching these videos as someone who plays the game to see how different people teach beginners, it's pretty cool. Plus I can learn new tactics, like the proper way to use Deerclops as a lumberjack and such
Wow, I played the original don't starve when it came out in like 2013, then got DST and played it like 3 times with a friend. Recently another friend picked it up and the three of us are starting but after so many years and updates, the game's changed so much that I could barely understand what to do. This is actually very helpful because there's simply too much things in the game to figure out yourself and even if you did, you wouldn't know what items and farms are good to set up and what are not. Very well made. Think we'll try going an year and after that I'll watch your other guide so we can fight some bosses.
I can't wait for this series! I've (finally) learned how to survive a year but I don't know what to do beyond that. I could definitely use the intermediate guide!
I think another tip for a beginner: if Tentacle Skin is ever dropped from an NPC battle you stumble across while farming Reeds in the Swamp Turf, you can make the "Tail o' Three Cats" (along with 3 Catcoon Tails), which might not dish out damage whatsoever, but CAN be used as an easy way to slap Shadow Creatures without getting hit yourself, thanks to the Range advantage.
I have 500 hours in Don't Starve Together (and 200 for single player) and this is my first time learning about Auto-Attack and it's relevant hotkey. THANK YOU.
My first Deerclops fight was a little different because of the christmas event thingy so he also shot a laser at me that dealt a lot of damage so I eventually had to kite him, it was pretty simple but those damn shadow creatures screwed me a couple of times. Oh and I was playing Maxwell as well (on my first playthrough!)
Awesome set of guides! I've played DST with my friends like 2 years ago (before all of the reworks). We did it all wrong, and we were SO afraid of bosses. We returned to the game recently, turns out one of us was playing from time to time and still haven't learned anything, but after watching your guides our gameplay will never be the same. Thank you so much!
I've played for years (but not consistently) and felt I was an low-intermediate level player but what he has in this beginner video is way out of my league! I suck so bad at this game I have no idea why I love it so much.
I honestly feel like this would've been a better intermediate guide rather than a beginner's guide. It's a lot to take in all for a beginner. Loved all the detailed tips and tricks though!
This was exactly the video i needed, theres a lot of good guides for the game, but most just focus on autumn and winter, whereas i really feel i get the "big picture" and the long term planning from this video :) Plus, when in doubt i can just retrace your steps to move forward. Super excited for the next one! awesome work
I have no intention of playing this game (I'd die too easily) however, I have been watching this playthrough over and over because I keep falling asleep and don't want to miss anything! Thank you for a great video!

They are so many things as a noob I'd never know without this video. It's helped me make it to winter so far. This is my longest run. But I can't seem to handle fighting shadow creatures at all. I always always always get hit by them. It's so annoying. It's always my biggest issue.
uhh, this guide is SO cool, ive been failing to follow along with the bee stuff and the pig house building so far, and ive died alot, but the guide itself is so fun to watch i dont even mind failing EDIT: succeeded, and now i am on ur intermidiate guide and already succesfully did a ruins rush and killed dfly EDIT: SUCCESFULLY DID THE INTERMIDIETE GUIDE, TIME TO DO THE EXPERT GUIDE EDIT: got addicted to forge, and im back now final EDIT: did the expert guide lmao

A couple of other mods I like that I don't find affect difficulty in a significant way. Some of these are most useful if you have memory/attention issues: Repair Combine - if you have a bad habit of partially using tools this lets you combine them so you don't end up with 5 pickaxes at 17%. Craft Pot - Lets you know what you're making. Health Info - tells you how much health creatures have Wormhole Colors - Gives the wormholes you jump through a color that matches the exit wormhole so you don't mix them up Extra Equip Slots - Gives an amulet and backpack slot. I suppose this one could be the biggest difficulty changer on the list but I really just found it fixed an annoyance. Global Pause - Lets you pause a multiplayer game. DST Storm Cellar - Basically like having a very, very large chest. Its crafting requirements are high to compensate for the convenience. If you get sick of having a bazillion chests at your camp it's a good option. Cluster Plant. Reborn! - Just lets you plant stuff like wheat and trees in clusters of 9. Purely for neatness sake. By default it gives you a material cost but I turn that off. Auto ReTrap - When you collect what you've trapped, it will put the trap back down after. Screaming Man Rabbit - Your rabbits scream like men. This is the most important mod. Disable Mod Warnings - Turns off the warning about mods. If you play modded often it's useful. The Starver's Carol Remix - Changes the menu music to the seasonal one. This one is just about taste.
Jakeysaurus: Make sure not to light trees that are too close to other things or you’ll start a forest fire Also Jakeysaurus: *Starts a forest fire right next to pigs* 10:09

I went from running away from Chester because I thought he was an enemy to building a good base, making myself good combat items and prepared for winter in under 11 days. Maybe I got lucky because everything is located in good areas and because I use Wendy efficiently, but still proud of myself.
your guide got me to day 52 :] i died due to wetness because i couldn't find the deerclops in winter so i couldnt make the eyebrella sadly, but day 52 is the farthest ive ever gotten so i thank you. However i feel you should give people more tips on things to do when you're missing something essential.
as a player who comes from minecraft (where i've never even gone to the nether or the end because i was too scared), DST was so overwhelming with the bosses & items & time-sensitive seasons, etc. this guide was so helpful since it was _actually_ aimed at beginners & not telling me to kill the ancient guardian by day 10. thank you :)
Me seeing the video length: "2 hours? That's crazy!" Also me, with 600+ hours in the game and having a deep understanding of everything discussed in the video: "Hmm yes, the video is over now"

"So after I momentarily turned into an owl..." most underrated sentence ever 😂 thanks so much man! I've been playing this game for a few months now and I STILL can't make it past spring, I never knew you could tank bosses like that, I just never really made armor.
I love a lot of the info in this video! I love the emphasis on exploration and it teaches some really interesting tools throughout the seasons. I think my big gripe is that it rely’s on gimmicks like despawning the hound attacks by going into the caves, which is something we can’t do anymore.
As someone who put in more than 200 hours in the game and constantly attempts speedruns i found this video very helpful and most importantly very entertaining as well. Thank you
Damn at 200 hours I barely knew how to survive xD Im at 1,4k hours now and Im getting more confident with the game! So much stuff to learn! GG to you 😉
could you maybe upload that base design somewhere as a blueprint or something so we see exact distances from each building etc (basically an image that i can just look up whenever i need to)
Another little tip for beginners: if your having trouble with food you can base in a desert, either dragonfly or oasis will do, because you can get a lot of cactus flesh which is good
This guide was amazing, I sadly only learned a few things, but one of them was that I'm not a beginner! Looking forward to the Intermediate guide, also, great editting, near the end of the video you start stuttering and stuff but I can only imagine it's just cause you sat down for a LONG time and just... talked XD lol. Another thing you can all do for Deerclops for the newbies, if you are too afraid to fight. Just have everyone make a camp fire far far away on day 30. After he spawns and you see him, just dip and avoid that area until winter is over.
You can absolutely avoid Deerclops all together, but you will need to plan for a different way to mitigate the rain in spring, like an umbrella and football helmet :)

This is legit the best beginners guide I’ve encountered and I CANNOT thank you enough. I’ve literally watched it once and played it in the background about 4 times on top of that for 1) good background noise bc your voice is kinda perfect. Not boring not jolting and entertaining. Plus accent so bonus points. 2) I have never survived beyond day 22 (1 time w another player, day 16ish alone) and since starting to watch this one video made it to 26-28. So I play it to absorb more lol. Thank you friend!!

I’m so glad my insomnia led me to your content! When I have trouble sleeping, I search up 100% speedruns or all bosses (for videos that last long enough for me to fall asleep to) of games that I’ve heard of, but am otherwise unfamiliar with and boom! Started playing DST 2 days ago, and learning that you can press 'F' to attack was mindblowing
Wait . What?! I've been attacking WRONG the whole time?!
I personally have it on left shift
I’m not sure if he mentioned this and I missed it, but if you somehow get 9 blue gems by a full moon before summer, you can fill each slot of chester with a blue gem on a full moon and he turns into ice chester. Which is just a walking fridge. You can swap out thermal stones from ice chester to keep cool
one thing to remember is taking care not to go into the sandstorm if hounds havent attacked in a while, having to kill a wave of them with a ton of sand in your eyes can wear you down really fast, if the goal is to survive being careful with their timing is really good to keep in mind.
This is a pretty good guide, but the second I see you pick up gears, chester and butter in the first nine minutes, I'm like: STREAMERS LUCK.
Enjoy!
people arent really afraid of her, their just afraid of the sanity drain
Isn't clops a Guy
@@cactusgamingyt9960 yeah
@@calabaresa really? where was that mentioned?
This is incorrect, this combo does not work in winter as tomatoes do not like winter so they grow slower meaning they won't supply nutrition to potatoes
This combo only works in autumn and spring
Thank u so much

I do agree that Klaus is not very beginner friendly, but he is by far the easiest RAID boss, and is the first a beginner should attempt, but I do see where you are coming from as if you do not prepare correctly your kinda screwed
EDIT: if you can't grasp kiting as well, your dead as tanking klaus is a death wish
this guide is so in depth and comprehensive 😩 as a beginner who is sick of dying thank youuuu

You can also use the tree guard strategy against Deerclops, it's a little bit harder because he doesn't destroy trees as easily but it's a very passive way to kill him if you suck at fighting

Thank u -3-
We built a base, but eventually died cuz of starvation... Like the name of the game
noooo
THANK YOU.
This guide helped me so much, I kept dying and almost rage quit, a lot of the time is because I didn’t know the best equipment and how to kite
Relatable lol
the worst thing in feastclops is that he destroys campfires so you can't tank him and this is why I almost died on my world
You survived your first feast deerclop using maxwell? Congrats! Maxwell's health is so low that I dont even bother do use him lol

A couple of other mods I like that I don't find affect difficulty in a significant way. Some of these are most useful if you have memory/attention issues:
Repair Combine - if you have a bad habit of partially using tools this lets you combine them so you don't end up with 5 pickaxes at 17%.
Craft Pot - Lets you know what you're making.
Health Info - tells you how much health creatures have
Wormhole Colors - Gives the wormholes you jump through a color that matches the exit wormhole so you don't mix them up
Extra Equip Slots - Gives an amulet and backpack slot.
Really great getting a guide that walks you through like this, cant wait for the other 2
