you talk about how using warm clothing or log suits are wastes of equipment slots, but you do realise you can just right click on items and instantly equip them. You can wear a backpack, and then switch to a log suit when an enemy appears and then pick up the pack again when it’s dead.
@Just A Chair Did he though? I'd imagine a video titled "20 Mistakes Noobs Make in Don't Starve Together" would serve more to show noobs what not to do instead of berating them for being a noob. Surely you watched the video? Did he sound that toxic? Quite possibly the dumbest comment I've seen in a while.
@Just A Chair Not worth getting angry over, get a punching bag or something. If what you say about him is true that's just his opinion. You're welcome to disagree with it
If you do survive past fall, you are gonna HATE it. Unless you are using willow as your character then it will be kind of hard to keep yourself warm in the winter, and I suggest if you create a new game that you don’t put it to winter, because that’s gonna be a huge challenge :,,,)
"Thermal gear is a poor choice" Ah yes, I'll absolutely need marble armour and a football helmet when gathering food and maintaining my teams base in the winter/summer.
If you're just base sitting then any gear will not really matter. Anyway, it is still more efficient to just use thermal stones as you can just juggle between fresh ones instead of cooling down/heating up for a while beside a fire.
@@eien1107 I'm curious the bases you build that are that close pressed, you can just stay near your source of warmth or cold and still manage your farm or all else without catching mass fire or getting stomped by a giant. lol
@@Leon_- I'm saying you can do pretty much whatever you want, but you'll be more efficient in general if you let the heatstones hug the heatsource for you. We build our stuff away from the "dwarf star area" so we can't hug it while cooking/farming, we still put the polar light there as it'll freeze you if you are too close. That or we have mushlights or just wear a CC crown. A bunch of heatstones are beside the furnace, polar light, or in a fridge, swapping between them when needed.
@@Leon_- I'm curious what impairment you have that prevents you from putting your warm thermal stone into ice chester and picking up the frozen thermal stone from the ice chester. Also >manage your farm lol, lmao even dude. Do you even know where you are?
@Shinobu Oshino This great impairment called a job, other games, and different hobbies. I don't play using meta strategies because why would I? It's not a competitive game, it's an open-ended survival game. So I play the way I find fun. Besides the fact my original comment is nearly a half year old, I don't tend to have Chester at base with my teams, since they take Chester for their boss things, I assume. And yes? Manage the farm, what's "lmao even" about that exactly? When I did play more regularly, I enjoyed base sitting. Part of that was learning how to grow giant crops on my own. You use ice Chester. Congrats. I use campfires, endos, fridges and thermal stones.
The video really does seem less like "mistakes noobs make" and more "why aren't you playing how I play" The joy of Don't Starve is every comes at it with a different view and play style I mean look at mega base videos not a single one is even slightly similar Like he baits you in with sentences like "some people like" and you are like oh okay he's acknowledging other playstyles but then immediately throws the "but why in the hell would you when.."
@@Nana-tx2mu the way he speaks of the other players, and diminishes them gives him a bad rep.... Not to mention that he doesn't understand the game well enough, even when this was released, there were many fallacious claims in this video, such as farming being useless.... Which simply isn't true, and it's potentially necessary for a large group of people. Farms have food items better than blue mushrooms, like 40 HP for dragon pies(3 twigs and a dragon fruit in a pot), or potatoes and tomatoes, which also give 20 HP each without the sanity drain. Some of the information is correct, but there is far too much belittling on the part of Edgy Rick, and he thinks he knows better than the rest of us. Like how he was dissing on stone fruit bushes, that many players enjoy, or saying that you have to play the way he does, eating raw blue shrooms, and being constantly chased by sanity monsters, bc "you will be strong enough with strong magical items", despite the fact that many experienced players wouldn't even do this... Because there is little reason to be insane all the time, many players simply don't enjoy it, and it wasn't really designed to be a pleasant experience for players. There is also no reason to fight everything with a dark sword or Hambat, there is no shame in having other mobs fight each other while you reap the benefits...on and on, ect. There are many different ways to play DST, and Edgy Rick simply lumps them all in with noob behavior, because he thinks they are dumb, because anything he doesn't do ...is dumb. This is the first video I've seen by him too, I was getting irritated and came to the comments, and discovered it was Edgy Rick, who my friend told me was an infamous toxic you tuber before. Tbh, I can see why, he's a jerk!
ye, there's some good advice like not makeing your base right away, not building walls and actually making weapons and armor and breaking random pig houses for resources (why am i not doing it?) but good chunk of advises are purely tryhard things that do not apply to a more casual playstyle
@@alpacasuitcase4629 in summer go to caves. The caves are cooler than the surface and you don't overheat even in peak summer. If you still don't know how to clear the ruins which i highly recommend learning just explore enough to reach licen or the blue mushroom biome and that's food for life but you'll be insane all the time
”Always wear a football helmet.” Edgy Rick is just that one tough guy that’ll hear someone cough and he will react instantly by yelling ”Huh, what did you say about my mother? You wanna go motherfucker? Let’s go motherfucker!” while taking his shirt off.
Ya, but still it is slow. I use it make pepper, corn , aspergus , garlic, and onlion(just for onion ,pepper, garlic combo). After two year farming you will have enough for whole game till you reset.
Uh... 'scuse you? The log suit has 80% dmg resistance. Tell me that's not good for newbies that don't know how to kite. As if a newbie is going to get a magicluminecense... Also farms are meant to be supplementary, not a primary food source. (Pierogis are great tho)
Now I didn't say that. No need to start being like that. Its his opinion, he never openly insulted anyone for using it, just said it wasn't the best later in the game.
@@aidansevigny3580 It's simple, head slot doesn't have any items besides armor that are really useful (top hat, garland, and other sanity-restoring items aren't nearly as effective like green shrooms or cactus). Body slot on the other hand offers you either armor or a backpack, the latter being extremely useful in all parts of the game. You also have to consider the cost of these items, for football helmet you need a pig skin and a rope, for pigs skin you can just smash 1 pig house for 2 easy skins, on the contrary, for log suit you need 8 wood and 2 ropes making football helmet way more efficient and easier to come by.
@@kubaGR8 You can remake them with some time. Though farming pig skin can take some time. And besides, even if you leave the pig house, you don't just farm pigs as you pass by.
The insanity filter is meant to show uh The insanity your character is going through so taking it out feels so wrong Also how is there anything wrong with healthbars? That's most certainly a quality of life mod.
I totally agree with that. I think that insanity is deliberately meant to be avoided unless you instantly need nightmare fuel or fighting Fuelweaver. Unfortunately, Insanity creatures being easy for professional players is one of the reasons why you see them always looking around in paranoia (Their characters, at least). I personally avoid insanity because it's effects look downright horrifying and make the gaming experience worse, even if you can deal with them, knowing that there are insanity demons hunting for your soul is anxiety-inducing and so on.
Healthbars aren’t really q o l because not having them is a feature to make it so you can’t tell when you’re done fighting something, but whenever I say this for some reason people just assume that I hate EVERYONE who plays with mods
@@Jeb_Redacted you’ll notice in other survival games with combat, when enemy health starts to be excessive they implement healthbars. The wither in Minecraft has 600 health. The ancient fuel weaver has 40,000. For big fights health bars are necessary or the player is going to feel like they are achieving nothing.
@@Jeb_RedactedSorry for answering this year old comment, but… If health bar is making the game easier, then what about this “ha ha, turn off screen shaking in settings! This will make your shadow creatures fights so much easier!” advice? Isn’t that a game feature aswell? Author of this video contradicts himself.
Watches video: Huh this is decently helpful Sees comments: Yea I am gone, this guy is incredible toxic to the people in the comment section of his videos, and I hope I never treat people like this...
Players, you heard it here first, playing the way you like is objectively wrong, this man is correct, and you are stupid for enjoying the game the way you want to. Praise be to Wolfgang, the one true DST character.
The more I play, the more mods I end up using lol. Stuff like extra equip slots just makes the game relaxed and fun imo, but I suppose for a new player learning to play, makes sense to play vanilla. Overall, people should just do what they want
Yup. I use the boss bar mod, because come on, every boss-oriented game needs one! I also use the Too Many Items Plus mod because I am a builder. I don't care if 99% will call me *_a sTuPiD NoOb iDiOt_* because I don't want clopsie to annihilate my megastructure in progress that I wasted a hundred days collecting materials for while constantly avoiding the looming danger of death and then killing me!
Tip 1: “don’t build a baseimmediately” okay, this is something people learn on their like third playthrough Tip 2: “use armour” okay, this is something people learn as soon as they realise how good armour is Tip 3: “fight shadow creatures” was recommended to people who cannot and should not be physically able to 1v1 a beefalo Tip 4: “instead of using combat info and enemy health bars, die multiple time by overestimating the enemy, in a game with no respawn, absolutely zero ways to tell the enemy capabilities and all mobs fighting to death, not changing behaviour regardless of being on 1% or 100% health” (please tell me about boss phases, something that a noob will even reach at all, not mentioning beat down severely enough for the boss to change phase) Tip 5: “don’t reasonably estimate your fighting skills-they’re negative, you can’t kite, the best you can do is stunlock-go on and fight monsters without knowing their hp and damage nor your damage” Tip 6: “go for the ruins, which the noobs won’t even manage to reach” Tip 7: “kill Deerclops” now that’s just laughable. We’re talking about people who can’t even survive till winter or die in it’s first days, and you’re telling them to kill a boss. “Kite him to a swamp” Assuming the noob can kite him and survive the swamp long enough for the deerclops to die by tentacles or merms or spiders. As a lot of people pointed out: this is not a noob guide, a noob will die trying to follow it, this is a speedrunning guide for people who don’t need guides with exception of updates And as if that wasn’t bad enough, there’s the comment replies... Credit where it’s due, you didn’t close them or delete them
tip 6 is kinda good if u dont listen to him for mote than its intro. U really shouldn't be afraid of caves, coz with bulbs u can make a portable lightsources that are much cheaper to refuel than torches/campfires
To be fair, I died much more when I dodged Deerclops since the Eyebrella is the only item in the game that makes spring and summer bearable. Deerclops is the only boss you really, really should beat in your first winter and if you can't, keep trying... If you don't, your first spring and summer will likely kill you or force you to waste your time standing around doing nothing as you can't gather many resources or kill mobs when you got to hold umbrella all the bloody time and for summer if you don't have certain things ready such as bird cage, bird, fridge, bee boxes, etc. you'll be in a position that even experienced players would struggle with. Killing deerclops in a swamp is honestly the most noob-friendly way to kill him. Pigs can't do it, neither beefalo so there really isn't much else than direct combat and swamp tentacles. I have no problem with this bit but I agree with the rest.
k but if by "not messing with world settings" you're saying that i must play with diseases on, that ain't happening my guy. The entire mechanic is just annoying and dealing with it doesn't make the game more rewarding in any way. Also, geometric placement makes setting up an organized base much more pleasent and it should probably be built into the game. Nobody would think "wow, how i wish i hadn't this tool that allows me to put up a bush witout having a stroke"
On my longest survive I survived past first winter, so I have no idea how this disease works. When it usually happens, how it works and how to deal with it?
MrOrzech It usually happens after the first year which is first summer You need to manually check if this healthy grass/sapling is infected by inspecting it and the character has different dialogue when it does, if it obviously looks different compared to others, you cant save the plant and need to uproot the nearby infected ones You just have to dig it up and replant it Or else it infects other nearby plants and make them unable to give resources when its too late Its more annoying since you have to check each grass/sapling if you have massive farms that is not grass geckos or twiggy trees and doesnt really add anything other than a nuisance
@@Kerubii22 thanks :D I still need to survive my first spring, because on the last world I died to thunders striking me. I didn't know it will be such an issue xD
I'm okay with your other content, but wow this is just wrong. I've been playing dst for a few months now (I know, not as long as your 2k hours that you oh so love to boast about) And for a veteran in a game called don't starve TOGETHER, you quite clearly have no concept of other playstyles. Not everyone wants to play as wolfgang and beat up every mob in the game with a hambat or dark sword. Some people may want to build a base, or build big farms to get efficient crops such as dragonfruit for dragonpie. People might want to download mods, as you fail to realise that for new players, dst is incredibly hard, and for older players mods can add a whole new game experience you just can't have in the original game. In addition, clothing items such as the beefalo hat and winter hat are incredibly useful for your first winter, coupled with a thermal stone you can stay outside for days without need to heat up next to a campfire. So, how about you stop putting people down because of your own closemindedness and actually appreciate other people being different to you. (Go on, call me a noob in the replies, I dare you.)
@@lunaredevinare7913 No the person in the youtube vid is wrong when it comes to characters not everyone is gonna play wolfgang we have conditions like wurt not being able to eat meat, not in the caves so we make log armor, choices to survive winter
I also agree with you about Dragonfruit. Yes, it's not easy to make but it has more benefits than Pierogi. I was killed by shadow monkeys once they were chasing me, and I couldn't eat pierogi because you need 2 second eating animation to complete to consume meat food. It's almost instant 40HP with Dragonpie.
20 Mistakes "Noobs" make when they try to play as Edgy Rick. Some of they are not mistakes actually, just when you play Wolfgang you will play comfortable, if avoid they. In DST you can play way more character. Wickerbottom can get much food with farms and her book. Wurt cant eat meat, so she really need a farm to eat dragonfruit and other veggies, because berries and caps dont restore much food. Also sanity shouldnt be low in early game, because killing nightmares are spending time, when players actually dont need nightmre fuel (they havent shadow manipulator). P. S. Beefalo hat is awesome, if you wearing helmet instead of it, you just cant kite.
The beefalo hat is completely worthless. Go test out the difference in-game between wearing a football helmet with a full thermal stone and a beefalo hat with a thermal stone. The difference is not worth the time it takes to make the hat, and the sacrifice of armor. You can survive for over a full day with the thermal stone and the football helmet which is more than enough to make winter feel like autumn.
@@bongus6754 that maybe true but dont forget that beefalo hats are also useful with keeping willow warm in winter, going to collect more manure for spring (or winter) and when paired with a thermal stone is actually one of the best combos not to mention the puffy vest you can craft from koalaphant trunks
@@derphatchief7899 The thermal stone is where 95% of your insulation comes from, yes the beefalo hat is useful, but it takes the headslot which should be used for a helmet. Also I'd say that puffy vests waste the chest slot, which could be used for a backpack or a yellow amulet if you have one. Again i don't care how you play the game, whatever you find fun is up to you. I'm just stating what i think is most efficient, and what has gotten me through these parts of the game without as much struggle.
lost me in the mod part... healthbar info, food and weapon info, and geometric placement are essential QoL improvements for me. it saves time my time from always looking up in the wiki on what stats certain foods give. and nobody's willing to remember how many times they should hit certain mobs with a spear until they are killed, right ? we want to get into the game quickly and not waste our time looking up guides...
Also saying mods are bad for gameplay for a new player is INSANE. Which is better a new player being able to learn what recipes and items do by hovering over them with a mod or having to tab out every 2 seconds to scroll through the wiki... madness
@@patchycb have you tried, just like, crafting the item and trying out what it does... I bet you would've never even survived your first winter if you didn't spend 300 hours watching tutorials when all you had to do is play the game and learn.

This guy is like the Dark Souls tryhards who don't realize there are different ways to play the game and calls you a noob if you don't use their exact strategy.
Having to stop all your forward motion just to enter a menu just so you can see numbers on your health/sanity/hunger meters (that's how it works in an unmodded game) is pure bullshit and a mod to fix that is just quality of life. Same goes for mob health. It doesn't make the mob easier, it simply reveals information that the game hides from you for no apparent reason. As a video game designer I've always struggled to understand what purpose does it serve. All it really does is discourage new players from engaging combat since they have absolutely zero tools to compare themselves to enemies and whether they are close to finishing it off, or their efforts might as well stop because they've been hitting the monster for 10 minutes with a weapon they don't even know how much damage it does, since that is hidden too. And your argument against it being just convienience is "What are they talking about?". So yea. No argument there. It is quality of life mod, and nothing more.
The only way I can think of hiding health bar being a good choice is in some games like monster hunter were you need to pay attention to the monster's animation to know how badly you damaged it. Dst give you 0 clue about that. It's like you fight a bearger, you know it's going to die because you know how to count kites, but it's just: I'm fine, no wait I'm dead.
Yeah. I'm very knew and got attacked by a walking tree. I was thinking "I'm gonna fuck this tree up" only to die after hitting it for 3 minutes straight with my spear. No idea how close I was to killing it
If you dont see enemy health noobs are gonna be fighting a dragonfly or something eventually and thinking its invincible because its still alive after hitting it for 10 minutes straight
Everyone has a different playstyle. Some like basebuilding and i for sure wouldnt call them noobs. Your style revolves around depleting the world and speedrunning. Its fun for the challenge but it doesnt make them more pro than those who enjoy basebuilding. For example youre telling people not to chop trees and instead break down pighouses... thats only for speedrunners not pros.
You should be breaking down pighouses because the only pighouse you'll ever actually use will be in your base. And if I'm proven wrong, since you now have a pighouse farm in your base, you can build a pighouse anywhere on the map. That's as stupid as avoiding digging up berry bushes, grass and twigs.
The first part was correct... The smashing pighouses information is actually really useful since most people wouldn't guess that a wooden structure gives you pig skin. The other thing about sanity not being a problem if you just get really strong weapons is useful too. The problem is how he doesn't explain anything about HOW you get good weapons and armor outside of weird speedrunner knowledge about how you can rush through a cave dungeon thing to get a thulecite helmet???? and then they dont explain how in the world green mushrooms and a hambat have anything to do with that.
@@chargedpanic5979 Insanity is still a thing you should manage and not just pretend it doesn't exist nightmare creatures are a nightmare to see during dusk which makes them nearly impossible to kite and if your insane during a boss fight or really any fight you need to kite in suddenly it's going to become nearly impossible to kite that boss you were fighting that does a ton of damage and you don't have enough damage resistance for and you'll die
This is the definition of a try hard don't starve player explaining how "easy" it is to survive in the game they have binged since birth and were genetically bred to play. Use mods, have fun. You don't have to play the game in the originally intended way as the creators intentionally meant for it to be difficult and give a sense of hopelessness as thats what the story is about. The constant is a world where no one can escape and all hopes of ever truly "winning" die at the end because you will never escape this endless nightmare world. But i just modded the heck out of it so i can have fun making a base and machines and destroying bosses instead of worrying about how my magic stone is a little too cold at night.
@@reecehunter7 winter gear being garbage isnt an opinion though, nor is using it a playstyle. There's nothing wrong if you didn't know its inferior to different strats and learning from it. Also, a noob is simply a new player, you're acting like it's a slur
@@blazoraptor3392 actually noob isn’t just a new player lol. most of the time noob is used as an insult to insinuate that someone is refusing to learn or that they are too dumb to get better at the game.
Well, I have a few things. Yes, I'm not an expert at dont starve, but I've been playing it for a few years now and have learned a lot. I do agree that turning off everything hostile and turning up everything useful is not a great learning experience, but it's ok to lessen them and slowly introduce them. Don't Starve is a VERY challenging game and to be honest you are not going to be able to learn everything on your own. You're going to have to do extensive research on about everything because it's basically impossible to find everything by pure trial and error. I think the one thing I understand for beginners is turning off the bosses because it's better to learn how to survive normally first instead of trying to learn the basics of survival and bosses at once. And another note is that people play games to have fun and sometimes they do that in different ways. Some people just want to have an easy fun time and goof around in it and some people want it as hard as possible and are always looking for a challenge. There isn't exactly a "correct" way to play the game, there is only and intended legitimate way to play it. You bought the game, so it's up to you to choose. Just keep in mind that 90% of the dangerous things, especially the bosses, are VERY important to progressing and getting essential items. The game rewards risk, danger, and hard work. P.S. just wanna say that the game specifically warns you that your computer might not be able to handle the caves, so keep that in mind.
for solo players, theres this one mod that exists solely to remove the lag caves cause by shutting down the server that isnt currently in use, absolute godsend for me
@@EdgyRick hahaa nooo they don't suck the server was too laggy on the one and the other died from the dark cause grass wasn't much. But i see yeah farms were updated not too long ago

@@slightlydistressedslug6627 I use the (backpack + armor) mod that he said and I'm extremely happier than when I didn't have the mod. For sure his tips aren't that good for noobs.
Example as to it not being quality of life: During the Ancient Fuelweaver battle, the boss has 16,000 hp, can become invulnerable, and can heal by eating his minions. It's basically impossible to tell what his HP is at any time, and he absolutely can sustain himself forever if you fight poorly. He may be at 50 hp for one moment, then suddenly heal 8,000 the next moment. If I have that mod enabled I can just kill him, but if I don't I'm not going to go out of my way to get one hit in, I may think he still has 10,000 HP when he's a moment away from death. How anyone can think that is quality of life is beyond me, and it shows how nooby you two are.
For my fellow noobs this video is really not beginner friendly on the opposite it’s somewhat advanced tips even though he makes some great points sometimes but here’s stuff I took some time to learn as a beginner : 1-Food will kill you a few times but try to learn effective ways to get food such as building near Beefalo and rabbit holes and placing traps for food(check them every now and then) 2- don’t settle down before day 5 at least I prefer to start making a base after day 10 3-not settling down allows you to explore the map and discover important stuff 4-USE MODS , not necessarily gameplay changing mods but some quality of life mods such as(geometric placement-stats always on-food values-Minimap-game performance enchanting mods) 5-avoid attacking large groups of enemies at all cost instead try to separate them 6-watch and read multiple tutorials on how and when to kite/tank fights 7-always have backup fire sources or you will run out of them a few times and die 8-it’s ok to make the game easier using presets or mods when starting the game, I started off using the following preset and my game was somewhat balanced(higher number of twigs and grass-longer days-autumn as my starting season) and having an extra slot for my armor as my only game changing mod because I hated forgetting where my backpack was Don’t forget that for some people the game being too punishing can lead them to quit a game otherwise they would’ve enjoyed and vice versa if it was a bit too easy. Warly is a useful base baby. He's talking about the willows and at least 3 of the 5 Wendy's in a server who just walk around and give you anxiety that you are gonna come back and your base is gonna be burnt down.
Well as long as you do something, then it's good. But he's talking about the willow mains who just sit at your camp and only cook meatballs with 3 blue mushrooms and a large meat every so often to feed themselves.

If you're playing a worthless character like wendy, it's literally unplayable without football helmet and ham bat. Like, imagine how long it takes to kill deerclops with a spear on a wendy lmao, and if you aren't wearing football helmet, it means you take more damage. Which doesn't help at all, because wendy is a worthless character that takes forever to kill deerclops, meaning you will take even more damage, will need more food, will need more healing items, and will need more logsuits... And yes, tanking deerclops is done because it's faster, and faster means your sanity will be higher, both in game and in real life, because deerclops drain aura is... insane.
To think someone actually said mods are not recommended; lol. It reminds me of some in the Dark Souls community. Much like how Klei purposefully didn't want to add achievements, surviving in Don't Starve is a *meaningless* "achievement" if you didn't have fun doing it. Moreover, utilizing these "quality of life mods" assists in people learning the game; proven when Elden Ring came about. Turns out, being able to fight bosses (right outside their spawn point instead of annoying and frustratingly long runs to the bosses in previous editions) actually allowed players to move quicker through the game, by having the chance to *learn* more often. It's MUCH easier to learn how to kite a boss that'll kill you in 10 hits, than 2. The facepalm comes with the remark that follows, calling out "noobs" for staying in bases. That's.. that's because they're literally reading the items they can build, because they're *not familiar with the game*. They're trying to figure out what to build, what they should build, and what they should go collect; it takes a moment. I've always disagreed with people's suggestions on using Wilson, of all characters, as the noob's first choice; things like Wigfried or Wendy are exceptional ant alleviating some of the problems that constantly plague new players, and the longer someone survives (even if it's, oh god! By not choosing the 'hardcore ironman no mod/respawn' route) the more familiar they become. With keybindings, the building system, swapping items/dropping. If difficulty is the only "fun" here, then why do you still play? Most of the difficulty is tied up in resolving the food issue/base building and seasonal survival for 90% of the players, and yet you and many youtubers already "solved" it. Why're you still playing? Or perhaps Don't Starve actually has more to the game beyond some exceptionally frustrating mechanics...
I will say my favorite base has been the time I played solo as Webber and I got a lot of spider nests near me, and then I opened a sinkhole near me, and stood in the middle of the nightly war.
i dont quite agree with the early base one. if u look from a competitive point of view, yes it slows down your development. but as a casual player who plays it with my friends, most of them new to this game in fact, i would have the base located at the portal so that they can access resources a lot easier. (and we can have 100 telltale hearts ready in that regards)
I hope you have a password on your server because when I'm bored I literally go on a random server and pick willow just to find noobs like you who build at spawn.
See man I get the fact hes Tryon to help, but lets be honest. Some of the tips apply to only him and kinda sound eitist. Its like a tryhard from TF2 saying "OUR WAY IS THE BEST WAY AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS WRONG". Again, some tips like the dont cook blue caps thing is a good tip, but still you get the point. I like his videos, but maybe saying a simple mistake such as not breaking pig houses and chopping trees instead is a little over the top. I'm not trying to say this as an insult, but there is the fact some of the mistakes arent even mistakes, but tips to how to be a good player, somewhat to the effect of the amount of skill as him himself, thus helping but also somewhat interuppting the trial and error process of players. Edgy Rick, I enjoy your content but maybe you should maybe evaluate if giving a mistake lists instead of a tip list would help the learning process. (Edit) Sorry for long comment and also just to be clear, I will not and am not saying in any way shape or form that Edgy Rick is a bad youtuber. He is awesome. He kinda just needs to know what lane of tips or mistakes he should be going for.
Calling someone a noob isn't rude, a noob, by definition, is just an inexperienced player. These are mistakes that help not only new players, but some longer time players too. In this game, having 200 hours means you are still a noob. You need to learn every detail of every thing that you can do and how to optimize it to be on that high level, and most people who play won't get there. His tips are for both, the brand new players, and the 200 hour players, I still learn a lot from him and I have 409 hours, give or take. I'm not as good as he is and still struggle. You can still play for fun and stuff, but with his guides it seems they are geared towards people who want to learn to optimize everything and become one of the good players, unlike beards guides for example, which are very much so geared towards new players and are easier to learn from if you don't have some experience with the game.
You said it perfectly. This guy is so alienated and full of himself, he really just tried recommending people rush the ruins if they're noobs in order to get better resources early on. 90% of these weren't "mistakes", they're literally required for noobs to do in order for them to get better at the game. Fighting anything in DST is difficult at first, so telling new people to just start randomly fighting is stupid. A better example of a similar "mistake" he could have said, was to not plant pinecones for treegaurds. They are excellent for practicing fighting, and low risk. They are the best creature to teach you how to kite. I honestly hope this video doesn't get a lot of attention from the DST community because it will severely harm any chance noobs had of continuing to play, they are probably looking for help and if they see this and realise that even with this "advice" they can't succeed, they'll just quit, because everything said here is trash. I could come up with a strong counterpoint to most things that were said in this video.
@@robertconners9865 First off, good job ignoring the few things I already pointing out and trying to bring up a new point. Second, the log and grass suit are "expensive", yes, but new players don't know how to fight werepigs so even if this guy tells them to get pigskins for a helmet, the advice is useless for the INTENDED AUDIENCE of the video, which are "Noobs." Things like the log and grass suit are made for newer players to be able to progress to certain parts of the game that they normally would not be able to. It's far easier, and if you're a noob it's far more efficient, to make grass and log suits. Not a football helmet. One of the only things I agree on here are the farm, farms aren't great and I'd definitely recommend new players looking into alternative sources of food since they're likely to starve if they focus on farms TL;DR - Telling noobs to craft armou that isn't NOOB FRIENDLY to get will definitely make them not survive. I agree, farms suck.
@@corncob3483 First off, good job ignoring the actual points Edgy Rick makes. You dont have to kill pigs for pig skin. They can hammer pig houses and pig heads for the skin. Edgy rick literally says this in his video.
I wish to mildly protect the head piece part for myself: I wear the flower crown cause pretty. And cause Maxwell looks so pissed when I put it on him. Also cause I never find useful places like pigs. Or useful anything for that matter.
So I bought Don't Starve like, 5 months ago or so, and I always tought this game was about streching all out to live off up to 10 days and then get killed by the wolves or something. I tought the game was meant to kill you quickly and that it was more of an arcade, but when I heard Number 14, it clicked on me, I knew what I was doing wrong and dude did I fix it. Now I am decorating all my farms with gold and have defeated Misery Toadstool. So far my best Wes run ever.
1:21 Backpacks are not always needed, such as when you are fighting Giants or Bee Queen as you won’t need that extra storage. If you need to gather resources, you can wear a backpack as the Mobs you are likely to encounter will not be Bosses and rather Hounds, Spiders, etc.
@@ketcapldomates4267 yeah bro, 1 rope and 1 pigskin is so hard to get... So much harder than... 2 ropes and I will stop here because we already established that it's a waste of materials to make log suits.
No, it's mistakes noobs make assuming they are willing to learn how to play well. And please never write out a twitch emote, it's an affront to the senses.
I use improved farms usually late to mid game as a side source. I usually have other sources and it helps a lot, usually for dragon pies. What you fail to see is while using it as your main source is not the best idea, having a secondary source of health foods to go with pierogis is a lot faster, letting you prepare much faster for something (A boss, going to the cave, moon rush, etc.) which is what you wanted. Telling them to not use farms outright is extremely wrong.
I've never played it, but I do know about the game due to wiki browsing and videos and from what I know... *Atleast 4 are wrong* The fact that you're using only 19 because you're just using one to tell people to like and subscribe is just... ugh I'd put all of the points into a list and say things in responce... but people have probably already done that.
I'm just imagining someone liking a comment from someone criticizing a video with literally 0 experience on their end, vs the video maker having over 2,000 hours, wrote a large portion of the wiki, and has multiple world record speed runs, but they have the balls to think they know better without even playing the game yet because they ReAd thE wIkI. Why are those even called human beings?
I remember seeing this video when it came out, i thought that it was like, i dunno, i sorta internalized it and thought that i'd been playing the game wrong this whole time, i had to unlearn a lot of the stuff this video "taught" me so i could actually enjoy the game again. When i play games, i play very VERY carefully, i usually dont put myself in dangerous situations unless i really need to, this applies to dont starve as well. I stay at my camp during the night (unless im mid exploration) and try not to fight things until i feel i have good armor. I also like making sure my meters are as high as possible. And yknow what? Thats perfectly fine! Its how i play the game. Does it sometimes limit my experience to not explore as much and play safe? Probably, yeah. But i also get very anxious doing the more advanced things sometimes, im still working up to it :)
Except if you follow tips in this video, you save so much time that you can do whatever you want to, while having almost best in slot items for armor and weapon and stable food source. You clearly didn't follow any tips here, because if you did, you'd be enjoying the game with all the extra time you never had before. The only thing that's optional here is rushing ruins because ruins don't have anything important enough to try and beat them in 10 days, other than fun.
@@shinobuoshino5066 yeah i obviously didn't follow any of the tips, i didn't say i did. I don't care about playing "optimally", i really don't. I play games how i want to play them, and thats how i find fun in them. I take my time doing things and learning the game so i can have my own fun. If you find issue in that, i dont care, and will continue to play any and all games in my own way.
@@cable_g0re "I have fun wasting time and dying". I'm sure you do, noob. I wonder what's stopping you from playing optimally for 20 ingame days just so you can get over the apparently "unfun" part of the game and have more fun. I guess it's hard to have fun when you need to put in more effort than watching world generation window which is the only part of the game that you don't completely suck at.
@@shinobuoshino5066 Literally never said or implied "i have fun wasting time and dying" you are putting words in my mouth in order to further your opinion. in my opinion, a more accurate fake quote would be "i think taking my time and spending hours on farming and farming only is fun even though i could be doing much better things." thats something i have done before, and its not limited to dst/ds. also who in the fuck uses the word "noob" anymore holy shit. also i can play optimally (kinda?), i know how to get an alchemy engine on day 2 (day 1 if i'm lucky enough). i have just over 300 hours in both games combined. also bold of you to assume i suck at this game btw. am i great at it? eh, i'd say i'm just ok at it, but fuck man at least im having fun. i think its funny how mad you are getting about me playing games slowly lol. if you think hearing about me playing dst is bad, you should see me play stardew valley, i literally go the entire spring without a chicken coop half of the time i play or i dont upgrade my tools to iron till fall, or i just wont fish for an entire season its actually absurd. it does make the game more interesting though because it means i have less money to rely on and i have to think harder about what to spend on. anyway, my point is, you sound like an angry 5 year old screaming at me to change my opinion for some obtuse reason, and you dont seem to realize that you are looking in a mirror and are actually mad at yourself for your inability to play games how you want to play them. or maybe you are just a 5 year old idk i'm not omniscient.
Geometric placing is gods gift to man. It's great for managing your space effectively. As for winter, I wouldnt skip it. You'll need deerclops eyeball for the spring, as it rains alot which will decrease your sanity and make you colder. But everyone has their own playstyle.
@@MtnFighter oh yes, he tries to guide people on how to play the way he does, and makes fun of people who say dumb shit like winter gear is good. how evil. main tip Don;t use football helmet and chest a slot armor at the same time. Using them both wont reduce the damage taken but instead split the durability. Making beehive early and bit far away is ideal, so u can craft honey poultice for healing. making bacon and eggs is good bec it has better stats and take 20 days to spoil. precrafting campfire is good.
Klei: Makes game called "don't starve" where food is not that important Makes game called "oxygen not included" where oxygen is included Makes game called "invisible" where you can see the protagonists Makes game called "mark of the ninja" and the ninja is not called Mark. WTF Klei???
A trick with the thermal stone is to smash the wasd keys around a heat source. That actually helps your stone heat faster, also there are certain caps depending on how big the fire is, there is no max since it works that way theoretically but the highest normally reachable is 50-60 degrees for the thermal stone itself
Fun fact: stacking two thermal stones in a backpack and standing next to a campfire will cause a cascading thermonuclear reaction and cook you alive, even in winter.
Wow I've been playing DS and DST for years now and I could never figure out HOW you guys were killing mobs and bosses so easily without taking damages... Thnx for the tips on the auto settings! You're the best
As a person who has survived 4 years on one world (no flex) i can say that, A lot of mods easily fix these problems such as Armour/backpack/amulet. And i just want to say.. Ahem.. FARMS ARE *EXTREMELY* IMPORTANT. Healing items like Dragon pie wont be available, But you did talk about pierogi, You need to find the dragonfly desert or oasis. And i will say, cactus takes about 4 days to regrow, That is why dragonpie is crucial when fighting bosses like, Deerclops, Moose/Goose, Antlion, Bearger, Dragonfly, and so on. Many good crockpot dishes will not be available either like Bone bullion. This is not a hate comment, i just wanted to let you know (if you even see this) that most of those points are good, but there are better. Thank you for reading (if you did).
To stop the argument between people who say farms are good or bad, build them only if you have the resources and time, don't depend on it for food, and only use it for dragon fruit pie if you have multiple crockpots.
With Webber of my main (Because I have a fondness for insects and arachnids) I disagree with the "Don't use mods" part. I use Snapping Tills all the time. DoEs ThIs MaKe Me A nOoB? I don't think so. Mods are for people who like to mess around or make the game easier/harder. Also on the other hand he is totally obnixious because he literally calls people NoObS for wanting to have fun and express the sandbox side of DST. Like Not Enouth Items which is basically god mode. He also was toxic in the comments. If you scroll down enouth you can see a few replies to people pointing out things close to what I'm saying that are toxic, like "LoOkS lIkE wE fOuNd A nOoB" which is not nice at all. And thats the story of why I disliked.
“Seeing enemy health and doing something that in no other way edits the game isn’t quality of life” perfect logic absolutely perfect. Given how stupid what you said in this video was I’m going to assume you didn’t pick up on my sarcasm so I’m adding this sentence.
I don't really have a main yet... Most of my worlds are Wicker, but on them I only get to day 31 and the like, whereas my second Wx run took me to Day 130....
Please explain, why is mob health mods bad? I don't get it, it's really really nice, its super satisfying to see the health bar go down and I don't see how it makes the game easier. Edit: Just played without mob health mods, holy crap its so different and combat is a lot scarier, never gonna use mob health mobs again(although Il still use Epic health bars because boss health bars are cool).
Mob health could be considered cheating because, in my opinion, not seeing the health tick down keeps you on your toes, and makes the fights a bit more interesting given most mobs are easy to fight. The case could be made it also lets you know when to go for the extra hit to finish off an enemy like giants or tentacles too, but personally I just don't like knowing, I'd rather be excited to see whenever what I'm fighting goes down then know for sure. But that kind of boredom doesn't take until you have played a long time. It's why Rick says to play that way, it's how he plays because he's played for so long, and his guides are meant to teach you how to play well, but also how to play like him.
Stuff like this is kinda sad to me, ppl ignoring mass parts of a game becuase its not effiecent. I just like to enjoy and try out eveything, maybe i just want walls around the base to just look nice lmao
@@EdgyRick I really hate to be this guy, rick, but, wherever did I mention a thermal stone? And also, my statement was a refutation of the part of the video where, broadly, you said it was "noob" way to play the game (that is a broad generalization of what you said), when, in most cases, it helps you stay warmer longer in the dead of winter. Most new players in winter are not constantly fighting in winter, and realistically, there is not much to fight but spiders and deerclops. Making a catcap is incredibly easy, and most of winter should be spent prepping for the next seasons ahead. And another refutation, try using only a thermal stone in summer, it *definitely* works... not.
I think many tips are bad advice tbh and let me explain why 1- log suit can protect you practically as much as a football helmet and is more affordable as pig skin is actually used for many essential crafts and if you’re preparing for a battle and only have one, it should go to a ham bat 2- sanity gain for some characters are very much needed and you really do need more then just a thermal stone to survive winter so using a tam o shanter during winter or when you’re low on sanity is a very good idea 3- even though farms are slow they can be extremely helpful during late game 4: a spear it always a cheap go to when you only need to take care of small things like a level 2 spider nest 5: one advanced farm would be equal to maybe 5 berry bushes worth of time and even though berry bushes are better early on farms are better later 6: he must only play easy characters such as Wolfgang and wx since he does not realize some characters need to fill some needs, like it’s harder to recover sanity as wicker so thats why they tend to save it for books and avoid blue caps or that warly needs farms for food diversity 7: screenshake is nice just for the feel of it 8: quality of life mods do exist and as long as it doesn’t affect the game, as in not changing occurences or lower the health of something the mod is fine, it dosent make you feel less acomplished 9: not getting wood is a bad idea as you will need to remake thise pig houses later on so for that time you’re just being lazy 10: stone fruit is amazing late game. More proof he never gets there I have onky one thing against rick and that he calls anyone who doesn’t follow his exact play style a noob and thats just rude and wrong, do not give him a sub also he really seems more like a very aggressive and not progressive type of player who just spawns in bosses and fights them instead of making worlds that go into late game and i don’t personally think new players should be taking some of his advice. Take it from someone who’s hosted a public world for 300+ days and done well as well as many duo runs that went way further. This is not very good advice for what will be a good world in late game.
1. No, if you wear log suit, then you can't wear something more useful like a magiluminescence, which you should take to like every single fight, because there is really no reason not to. 2. Just kill the shadow creatures, or you know what? There is a glitch in DST where if you run away from 2 sanity monsters so they are offscreen, they will basically be frozen in time and more won't spawn. Also no, thermal stone is just enough but I guess if you got lucky with a tam o shanter you could use it, though the football helmet might still be better for surprise attacks. 3. No, because in late game you will likely get way more efficient methods like bunnyman farms. 4. Just use an axe. 5. No, 5 berry bushes produce a bit more, unless you spend days grinding all the manure, instead of being productive, and again, bunnyman farms for lategame. 6. You don't need to stay high on sanity, just fight the shadow creatures, also if the characters are so easy, why don't you play them? And it's just as easy to recover sanity as wicker as any other character, unless you meant the sleeping part of course, which you shouldn't do, it's a waste of time. 7. That's subjective, but for me personally when an earthquake happens in the caves, I literally can't focus on my screen at all because of how much it shakes. 8. yeh 9. Just break like a ton of them, and you can place a few near your base, and then save the rest for the raw materials (2 pig houses = alchemy engine, apart from gold!) 10. Not really, you can just use cacti as a replacement or BUNNYMAN FARMS, HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY THIS.
Blue Jay 2. What skilled player can’t hear a spider or a hound a screen away from them? And also surprise attack are kinda unlikely 10: it’s still good as another alternative as it gives rocks. Get like 2 stacks of stonefruit and place them individually on the ground at the Same place one at a time and blow it up with 1 gunpowder and boom stacks of veggie filler and rocks
@@awsome5879 2. I bet you say that and then get surprise hit all the time, nobody is perfect, even the most skilled players could get hit by a sneaky terrorbeak and withouth armor that's 50hp damage. 10. Gunpowder can only blow up 10 rockfruit in total at a time, so no, it's really not a good strategy and you still have to go to lunar island when you could just use cacti for example.
Blue Jay I don’t mean to insult or anything but I usually keep my health high to not die to suprise and the gunpowder rockfruit works for me you have to place them down one at a time individually
@@awsome5879 Well if you get hit by a surprise attack withouth wearing any armor, you won't die, but you will still take alot of damage, also I tested already a ton of times, a single gunpowder only blows up 10 , even if you place like 10 stacks, it will still only blow up 10 in total from 1 stack.
Misstakes and sub optimally playstyles are not really the same thing. they are all good tips to survive longer for sure, but some of they are not necessarily mistakes unlike keeping lag compensation on or not useing the mushrooms or other resorces in the wild. For example the screen shake and being topside in summer might not be easier then the alternatives, but it adds to the experience of playing the game. Its not as much of a mistake as its just playing the game differently in a somewhat harder way. Same thing with mods and changeing the world settings, it can make the game easyer ( or harder ) and makes it harder to learn and train your skills in actully playing the game. But that does not mean its a misstake to use them. By the logic in this video the best way to play the game is to rush the ruins and just kill whatever boss or do whatever goal you had in mind and ignore everything else. But that in itself also ruins the actual survival experience for some people.
>play sub optimally because you're dumb >call it a playstyle to prove that you're even dumber than expected It's called learning, unless you're somehow mentally impaired from doing that, I don't see the reason not to.
I start playing not a long time ago. My friends asked me to play with them and i agree. They promised me that they'll teach me how to play. We were playing and i found a blue mushroom and i was like "Hey! It heals!" and they told me not to use mushrooms 'cuz it's bad for my charcter. I eat them anyway. I play shorter than them, but i'm probably already better. This is not only my opinion.
I had about 12 improved farms in my solo game. I have no idea how one could say that one farm is too expensive xD i feel like the tier list for that should be: - new player that makes one farm, -noob that says farms are useless, -player who knows how farms should be used ;d
And by the time you got 12 improved farms, I had 50 pighouses and 9999999 spider dens in my base and I had so much real food that was made up solely of meat and eggs that I didn't know what to do with it. I know how farms work, I just don't have time to waste on sissy vegan food.
@@shinobuoshino5066 they weren't that expensive and hard to make, really, and not bothering to care if sanity food will spoil soon is convenient. Yay for your spider eggs I guess?
@@karolfortuna8522 Sanity food grows all year round in desert and bees produce more than enough honey that virtually never spoils. All of which is less effort than farms will ever be.
@@shinobuoshino5066 sure. You can craft armor and fetch cacti from the desert, and (by what you say, I guess you just play Wendy) farm bees. Improved farms were a comfy mechanic that if suited for ones gameplay, worked efficiently. But if you want to also call others noobs, because they wanted to mine few stones more than you, sure, go for it. There is plenty of ways to play the game, and if you want to belittle others for having fun their way, then I'm honestly so sorry for you
consider me a noob, but I would always use show me and global position mod. also I would never understand how people use geometric placement because that mess of grids always confuse me more. but props to those who can utilize it. anyway, the video is good unlike your rude behavior in the comment section, which is baffling. but you do you!
@@Jakub-ev5so I think this video was meant for players who are just starting out and have no idea what they are doing. when I started out, I didn't really think of checking out in the UA-cam to see any tips video. I just went in the game knowing just that I'll be dead if I don't have light at night. I was also embarrassed to join any public server as most of the time I didn't know what I was doing, like once I ran away from chester but the other time I picked tall bird egg and died almost instantly. so, I guess a bit of these tips won't hurt them to start out and then make up their minds on how they want to play further. and a person whom I asked about this game and some advices in my earlier days, had told me to invest the most in winter gear and in advanced farms. and to not pick flowers. then I learnt later in the game that you can catch butterflies and plant those to get more flowers. so, it was a bit of an appreciation from my side thinking of how messy and confusing it was for me.
Good enough points tbh. A lot of people are turned off by things like consuming non-renewables, but the thing is most people don't even live through a whole year. I take the same approach to things like zomboid after I've died a few times. I base my gamestyle off of how far I've been getting and go from there. And that's how the game is meant to be. If you perfectly plan everything, then you don't need to do these things, but the point of games and the challenge is they intentionally mess up perfect planning.
you talk about how using warm clothing or log suits are wastes of equipment slots, but you do realise you can just right click on items and instantly equip them. You can wear a backpack, and then switch to a log suit when an enemy appears and then pick up the pack again when it’s dead.

"Thermal gear is a poor choice"
Ah yes, I'll absolutely need marble armour and a football helmet when gathering food and maintaining my teams base in the winter/summer.
Like he baits you in with sentences like "some people like" and you are like oh okay he's acknowledging other playstyles but then immediately throws the "but why in the hell would you when.."
I'm new in the community, is there a reason why people hate this guy sm not just this vid but all his old vids got a lot of hate.

The insanity filter is meant to show uh
The insanity your character is going through so taking it out feels so wrong
Also how is there anything wrong with healthbars? That's most certainly a quality of life mod.
I totally agree with that. I think that insanity is deliberately meant to be avoided unless you instantly need nightmare fuel or fighting Fuelweaver. Unfortunately, Insanity creatures being easy for professional players is one of the reasons why you see them always looking around in paranoia (Their characters, at least). I personally avoid insanity because it's effects look downright horrifying and make the gaming experience worse, even if you can deal with them, knowing that there are insanity demons hunting for your soul is anxiety-inducing and so on.
Healthbars aren’t really q o l because not having them is a feature to make it so you can’t tell when you’re done fighting something, but whenever I say this for some reason people just assume that I hate EVERYONE who plays with mods
i think he meant decreasing enemy health with mods
@@Jeb_Redacted you’ll notice in other survival games with combat, when enemy health starts to be excessive they implement healthbars. The wither in Minecraft has 600 health.

Tip 1: “don’t build a baseimmediately” okay, this is something people learn on their like third playthrough
Tip 2: “use armour” okay, this is something people learn as soon as they realise how good armour is
Tip 3: “fight shadow creatures” was recommended to people who cannot and should not be physically able to 1v1 a beefalo
Tip 4: “instead of using combat info and enemy health bars, die multiple time by overestimating the enemy, in a game with no respawn, absolutely zero ways to tell the enemy capabilities and all mobs fighting to death, not changing behaviour regardless of being on 1% or 100% health”
(please tell me about boss phases, something that a noob will even reach at all, not mentioning beat down severely enough for the boss to change phase)
Tip 5: “don’t reasonably estimate your fighting skills-they’re negative, you can’t kite, the best you can do is stunlock-go on and fight monsters without knowing their hp and damage nor your damage”
Tip 6: “go for the ruins, which the noobs won’t even manage to reach”
Tip 7: “kill Deerclops” now that’s just laughable. We’re talking about people who can’t even survive till winter or die in it’s first days, and you’re telling them to kill a boss.
“Kite him to a swamp”
Assuming the noob can kite him and survive the swamp long enough for the deerclops to die by tentacles or merms or spiders.
As a lot of people pointed out: this is not a noob guide, a noob will die trying to follow it, this is a speedrunning guide for people who don’t need guides with exception of updates

Thank you
tip 6 is kinda good if u dont listen to him for mote than its intro.
@@Laireso u dodge summer by going to the caves and spring is countered by wearing a football helmet and an umbrella (pig skin one)

MrOrzech It usually happens after the first year which is first summer
You need to manually check if this healthy grass/sapling is infected by inspecting it and the character has different dialogue when it does, if it obviously looks different compared to others, you cant save the plant and need to uproot the nearby infected ones
You just have to dig it up and replant it
Or else it infects other nearby plants and make them unable to give resources when its too late
Its more annoying since you have to check each grass/sapling if you have massive farms that is not grass geckos or twiggy trees and doesnt really add anything other than a nuisance

No idea how close I was to killing it
Some people think tedium is equal to challenge.
I wish I played on pc so I could download the health mod:/

If I have that mod enabled I can just kill him, but if I don't I'm not going to go out of my way to get one hit in, I may think he still has 10,000 HP when he's a moment away from death. 1-Food will kill you a few times but try to learn effective ways to get food such as building near Beefalo and rabbit holes and placing traps for food(check them every now and then)
2- don’t settle down before day 5 at least I prefer to start making a base after day 10
3-not settling down allows you to explore the map and discover important stuff
4-USE MODS , not necessarily gameplay changing mods but some quality of life mods such as(geometric placement-stats always on-food values-Minimap-game performance enchanting mods)
5-avoid attacking large groups of enemies at all cost instead try to separate them
6-watch and read multiple tutorials on how and when to kite/tank fights
7-always have backup fire sources or you will run out of them a few times and die
8-it’s ok to make the game easier using presets or mods when starting the game, I started off using the following preset and my game was somewhat balanced(higher number of twigs and grass-longer days-autumn as my starting season) and having an extra slot for my armor as my only game changing mod because I hated forgetting where my backpack was
Don’t forget that for some people the game being too punishing can lead them to quit a game otherwise they would’ve enjoyed and vice versa if it was a bit too easy.

Which doesn't help at all, because wendy is a worthless character that takes forever to kill deerclops, meaning you will take even more damage, will need more food, will need more healing items, and will need more logsuits...

@@corncob3483 yes, because him telling people to wear armor and not use farms will prevent them from surviving
@@robertconners9865 First off, good job ignoring the few things I already pointing out and trying to bring up a new point. Second, the log and grass suit are "expensive", yes, but new players don't know how to fight werepigs so even if this guy tells them to get pigskins for a helmet, the advice is useless for the INTENDED AUDIENCE of the video, which are "Noobs."
Things like the log and grass suit are made for newer players to be able to progress to certain parts of the game that they normally would not be able to. It's far easier, and if you're a noob it's far more efficient, to make grass and log suits. Not a football helmet.
One of the only things I agree on here are the farm, farms aren't great and I'd definitely recommend new players looking into alternative sources of food since they're likely to starve if they focus on farms
TL;DR - Telling noobs to craft armou that isn't NOOB FRIENDLY to get will definitely make them not survive. I agree, farms suck.
@@corncob3483 First off, good job ignoring the actual points Edgy Rick makes. You dont have to kill pigs for pig skin. They can hammer pig houses and pig heads for the skin. Edgy rick literally says this in his video.

I only make 1 (one) farm for getting corn for powder cake, everything else is irrelevant.

He can't. Basically he just want people to play the game the way he plays it. Just play for fun and don't worry about that shit.
And another refutation, try using only a thermal stone in summer, it *definitely* works...
not.
No one is reading all that. Your IQ is below room temperature.
@@EdgyRickI read the whole thing
I think many tips are bad advice tbh and let me explain why
1- log suit can protect you practically as much as a football helmet and is more affordable as pig skin is actually used for many essential crafts and if you’re preparing for a battle and only have one, it should go to a ham bat
2- sanity gain for some characters are very much needed and you really do need more then just a thermal stone to survive winter so using a tam o shanter during winter or when you’re low on sanity is a very good idea
3- even though farms are slow they can be extremely helpful during late game
4: a spear it always a cheap go to when you only need to take care of small things like a level 2 spider nest
5: one advanced farm would be equal to maybe 5 berry bushes worth of time and even though berry bushes are better early on farms are better later
6: he must only play easy characters such as Wolfgang and wx since he does not realize some characters need to fill some needs, like it’s harder to recover sanity as wicker so thats why they tend to save it for books and avoid blue caps or that warly needs farms for food diversity
7: screenshake is nice just for the feel of it
8: quality of life mods do exist and as long as it doesn’t affect the game, as in not changing occurences or lower the health of something the mod is fine, it dosent make you feel less acomplished
9: not getting wood is a bad idea as you will need to remake thise pig houses later on so for that time you’re just being lazy
10: stone fruit is amazing late game. More proof he never gets there
I have onky one thing against rick and that he calls anyone who doesn’t follow his exact play style a noob and thats just rude and wrong, do not give him a sub also he really seems more like a very aggressive and not progressive type of player who just spawns in bosses and fights them instead of making worlds that go into late game and i don’t personally think new players should be taking some of his advice.
8. yeh
9. Just break like a ton of them, and you can place a few near your base, and then save the rest for the raw materials (2 pig houses = alchemy engine, apart from gold!)
10. Not really, you can just use cacti as a replacement or BUNNYMAN FARMS, HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY THIS.
Blue Jay 2. What skilled player can’t hear a spider or a hound a screen away from them? And also surprise attack are kinda unlikely
10: it’s still good as another alternative as it gives rocks.
@@awsome5879 Well if you get hit by a surprise attack withouth wearing any armor, you won't die, but you will still take alot of damage, also I tested already a ton of times, a single gunpowder only blows up 10 , even if you place like 10 stacks, it will still only blow up 10 in total from 1 stack.
dude just burnt an entire forest to warm up
Misstakes and sub optimally playstyles are not really the same thing.
they are all good tips to survive longer for sure, but some of they are not necessarily mistakes unlike keeping lag compensation on or not useing the mushrooms or other resorces in the wild.
But that in itself also ruins the actual survival experience for some people.
>play sub optimally because you're dumb
>call it a playstyle to prove that you're even dumber than expected
It's called learning, unless you're somehow mentally impaired from doing that, I don't see the reason not to.
I have no idea how one could say that one farm is too expensive xD i feel like the tier list for that should be:
- new player that makes one farm,
-noob that says farms are useless,
-player who knows how farms should be used ;d
There is plenty of ways to play the game, and if you want to belittle others for having fun their way, then I'm honestly so sorry for you
@@karolfortuna8522 wendy is trash, not sure what would give you that idea.
Destroying pig houses for planks. You mean beast! I would never heard my friends, unless I'm hungry.
consider me a noob, but I would always use show me and global position mod.
also I would never understand how people use geometric placement because that mess of grids always confuse me more. but props to those who can utilize it.
anyway, the video is good unlike your rude behavior in the comment section, which is baffling. but you do you!
@@Jakub-ev5so Yeah, this video literally says "If you don't play like me, you're a noob"
@@NoveOficial yeah, that's a shitty attitude.
Loved the effort put into this video Rick, it felt like your first/old guides, always liked the visuals on those videos
