    See it *motorized* in my newer video: ua-cam.com/video/_T7PtIOkygw/v-deo.html
    Obviously everyone knows *Platform 9 3/4* is *Platform 9 3/4* and me saying "3 & 3/4" is a stupid, stupid, stupid, obvious mistake caused by sleep deprivation. A brain under enough stress will manifest symptoms, and the symptoms for me are always a stupid, stupid, stupid, and obvious word substitution. Hopefully this does not completely ruin the entire 20-minute review for anyone or distract from all of the rest of the content or the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Express set covered therein.

      Looking through those, it's definitely had some interesting variations over the years. Think this is by far the best one! Only could be better if it had a longer tender and more opportunity to motorize. Unless maybe they're planning a Creator version? How awesome would that be!?!?

      You should get your rest. I'm sure will understand. And thanks for being my favorite Lego reviewer on UA-cam I started getting back into Lego in 2015 and watched all your videos from 2013 till today and every time I build I watch your reviews and I keep rewinding because I just like hearing your opinion cuz it's very detailed and inspiring. So thank you again I don't know how many people say that to you or not but thanks for all your videos that you've done and will do in the future

    Definitely a good looking train! Absolutely love the way it looks. And the station is a solid and good looking build too. Definitely two pieces that could be enhanced and extended to be bigger, motorized, etc. I like this set a lot! Thanks for the walkthrough, Jang!

    The train used as the Hogwarts express is a 5972 Olton Hall. When I was a child, almost 35 years ago, this train, and hundreds of others, were kept in the sidings at Barry Docks by the Woodham brothers. There were no fences or safety concerns in those days, so my brother and I used to mess around on these trains, climbing up in the cabs which were in such a state of disrepair that great holes were rusted through them. Looking at a steam train as a 6 year old from track level was an unforgettable image. One day they started to disappear and I was upset that they'd finally scrapped them, but I later learned they had been bought and taken away for restoration with about a hundred now up and running on heritage railways. It's really hard to reconcile that rusted old train with the shiny one from the films, let alone this LEGO modal of it. It's amazing what the conservationists can accomplish and where it can lead.

    I remember when I was a kid in 2011 my dad and I managed to put power functions in the the 2010 set. The battery was in the coal box and the receiver was in the drivers seat. We even had lights on the front. I had the thing going on track and it was so awesome

    Lego has shot up in price over the years, but so has the quantity of quality products.
    I don’t know how they suffered losses last financial year, but it just might be because everyone’s wallets are already empty...

    Good set, but I feel that in Lupins suitcase, they should have put a printed
    1x2 tile to look like the chocolate bar that he gives to Harry after the Dementor attack. Not a big detail, but I missed opportunity I think.

    Yes, I absolutely agree with you on this style of opening a wall. Ever since Lego did opening like a trailer's wall, I generally have not like how they've done it, like on a hinge (since they stick out and are an asymmetrical design). Lego doing it this way is much easier for them on design since now you don't have to do any extra flat plates just to get the level even on just one side, and costs can be reduced by including less parts in the build (which opens it up to more customers which could subsidize the cost better so a lower price). I can only hope Lego does this type of removable wall as a standard.

    I bought this set for my great-grandson, and knowing nothing about Leggos, except for the many .I've stepped on, did not know or could figure out, if this train used or included tracks. Would be nice if the mfg. gave a little more info as to what's included or needed. I purchased it on-line, and it said that tracks are often bought with this set, so I bought those too. I know he'll love it, and I thoroughly enjoyed your review and all the info you gave about this set.

  • @stuchly1
    @stuchly1 6 років тому +10

    I love this set! I really do! Yes, the tender is puny, and the undercarriage of the passenger car looks empty, but being able to get inside from the side is a great feature.
    I really like the station build and the dementor figure, especially the station looks better than it needed to which I am very happy about.
    All in all I think the good outweighs the not so good. (Really, I can't call out a single thing I'd consider outright bad).

    The Hogwarts Express is called Hogwarts Castle( seen on the side of the locomotive)
    Therefore the locomotive sounded to me like a Castle Class, used in Britain during the steam period. I researched it and I was right. The train is in fact a Castle class locomotive which existed.

    • @JANGBRiCKS
      @JANGBRiCKS  6 років тому +7

      Close. It's a Hall Class, but some model manufacturers have reused Castle class molds for their Hogwarts Express miniatures, an error/shortcut that's been evidently much ridiculed by railfans. I only just learned of this this while researching the locomotive for this review.

      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/GWR_4900_Class_5972_Olton_Hall this is the engine that was used for the films I know this because I’m a steam enthusiasts and you are correct jang companies do you the castle locomotive for it the model company Hornby have done this as I own a model for it and they haven’t bother to fix it until how as a released Olton Hall in it Hogwarts colours.

    @13:50, Despite the set not including tracks, it's interesting that the front box art does show tracks. If the box-art is any indicator, it doesn't appear that it was intended to have the platform connect with any tracks.

    I was very surprised when I saw that the set didn't have regular magnetic train couplers, which are much better, cheaper, and also easier for play. This definitely is by far the best Hogwarts Express build, mainly due to the wheels, but it is still a little underbuilt. No axles means the wheels won't turn in unison, and the tender is just waaaay to short. The coach from the last Hogwarts express was better since it was longer (although it had no corridors so it was like a cage lol). The whole train itself is very stumpy and short, kinda like it was pressed together. There's not a lot of detail unlike the last one. The station and minifigs are great however

    In the book titled "Lego Harry Potter Building the Magical World", there they describe a 2004 set # 10132 Motorized Hogwarts Express. This deluxe logo themed train set came with train tracks, power cord, speed regulator, and a more elaborate version of Hogsmeade Station which was based on the third movie called, " Prisoner of Azkaban. Based on the image of the speed regulator in the above mention book title, do they still use that old speed regulator?

    Its great that they got the wheel arrangement on the locomotive but it doesn't look like the British castle class engine and the tender has 6 wheels

    I do think that they're going to make another Prisoner of Azkaban set with Sirius Black, but Crookshanks is included with Hermione in the minifigure series, so it's possible that he won't appear in that set.

    I love this set! I may be wrong but I don't think that there was an engineer even in the movie as the train is powered by magic - I actually know one of the engineers who drove the train the the first 3 movies, but again, I think he was hidden to make the train seem engineerless :)

    My freight train won’t fit through the station! It has two double stack intermodal cars and these were supposed to be on the same loop. Going to have to figure something out but it will be well worth the compromise!

      The british Loading Gauge is much smaller, so we dont have double stack wagons

      Bricks Only The platforms are one full brick too low, so an obvious fix is to build them up to the right height compared to other Lego train stations. Don't know if that's enough, but it's a start and it can solve the issue with the platforms not connecting to the tracks also.

    Are you planning on modifying it? You could add those technic plates to connect all three wheels like real steam engines, make the tender bigger (maybe house the battery too) and extend the coaches. ;)

    Thanks for the amazing reviews! Do you have a suggestion for the best way to add additional Hogwarts Express cars to the train? Thank you as well for the great motorization video!

    I'm pretty sure the dementor's no face is his alternate face because dementors only show their mouth when they are going to give someone the dementor's kiss

    I expected that train set to be motorized, but it's not, if would have been too expensive otherwise, but it's still a good looking train, with some major mods, you could make it run on rails like most Lego train sets, I wouldn't be too surprised to see this one in New Jang City at a later date, who knows?

    Personally I think that specifically tender engines like shown look just fine with one piece of rolling stock since they have a tender making it just feel more natural. If they made a tank engine or diesel and only had one piece of rolling stock it just doesn’t look good.

    Jang you need to do a mod for this thing!! It is already a beautiful train but you need to add more connecting rods to the train, a detailed undercarriage and more carriages themselves. It would be an absolutely awesome model but I can’t do it myself because I wouldn’t have enough parts ( I’m still working on my collection). Please please please read this comment!! Like if you agree

    Oh! One thing is that the trolley cart didn't have the same print the last Hogwarts express set had. Sad to see that.
