Too bad they're wrong, at least in this case. The roofs of the real train used for the Hogwarts Express are black. Not blackened by soot, just painted black.

3:56 Fun fact, those are Fire Buckets, they have the word FIRE stencilled on them and are typically filled with sand for dumping on small fires. Quite a common sight on preserved steam railways in England.
8:24 the engineer driver and the fire man stay in the cab of the engine. the conductor usually stays in the back of the train to engage any breaks necessary as well as checking in on the passengers
In their defense a conductor doesn’t drive a train they just get you onto the train a engineer drives it
And this Ladies and gentlemen is why LEGO is not considered a kids toy because fans can spot the difference between an engineer and a conductor😂😂😂😂😂😂
I personally like the last version more. I do wonder if that conductor minifigure is gonna go up in price because of those of us who have the old set but want a conductor to complete it.

My issue with the set is how small the train coaches are
Compared to the old ones they just look so small
I'm not a train expert, but I don't think the conductor drives the train. That would be the engineer which (if included) should have a sooty face and dirty overalls. Or perhaps in Harry Potter world the train drives itself.

Fun fact: The red lights on the train cars would be used to identify the back of the train. In real life the cars would be moved around and on British railways they don't use brake vans for passengers they use a break coach( That might be why that train car in the back only has 4 windows)
It's a nice set, mainly because of the Hogsmeade station, but the train itself (especially the locomotive) is not as good as the previous one, despite having one extra carriage. If you want the better Hogwarts express then the previous set is still superior imo.
Personally I like the older one better. But both have two problems, the lack of ease to power up, and secondly the connectors. What's the point of a train that can't be run on a track layout? Yes cool display, but lack of train play.

It isn't a bad set per se; it's just in my eyes not as good as the 2018 one (75955). It's nice to have Hogsmeade station but the train is a downgrade with its strange roof.
And with the stickers, but without rods. Train - downgrade. Station - upgrade (or just an extra, since it's a different station. ) It's certainly not worth selling the old train to buy a new one, like Ryan suggests. Better to have both or go with the old one.

I own the 2018 one and I think that the 2018 train is much better with the way the passenger cars open up to play with, the bar piece that moves on the wheels and the roof color, I think the only thing that's better is the hogsmede station and the train tender car as the 2018 looked rather bad.
Totally agree, the tender on this one is miles better, and the Station looks amazing.
Although I can't help but think they could have made the station a stand alone set and maybe beef up the build a little more, so that people could get one without the other. Also its nice to have a conductor unlike the 2018 set.
Why the hell didn't they make the train cars look the same as the last one. Could have added the old train car to this new train

New Hogwarts Express 2023 set is special only for Hogsmeade station and display railway tracks, maybe some new minifigs.
New Hogwarts Express look for me like little downgrade opposite 2018 version: smaller, only stickers, less details. Yes, play set, but 2018 is play set too.
One extra train car isn't reason buy this set, when you order parts from BrickLink, build extra train car from 2018 version and build Hogsmeade station from 2023 for full pack in less price. When you want full experience from Hogwarts Express you need buy full circle railway tracks and make RC mode with Powered Up(not cheap).
This is good set for new fans, but if you have 2018 version, you don't need spend money in this set, when you buy parts for Hogsmeade station, maybe more for extra train car in 2018 design.

So, I got something entirely separate from this video, but Lego Star Wars should perhaps also sometimes make Super Battle Packs, a battle pack with eight figures. So, for example, with the Siege of Mandalore, a SBP of four updated Death Watch Mandalorians and four Shadow Collective Mauldalorians. Due to it being a double pack in one set, it could be slightly cheaper than two separate battle packs or something. And, you immediately build both sides of a battle.
Something that's also an idea is that there would be two Death Watch Mandalorians and two 332nd Company clone troopers for Ahsoka and Bo-Katan's side. The opposing warriors could be a male and female Mauldalorian Super Commando and male and female regular Mauldalorian.
Ask mandr if Lego made a set with captain Rex but with no arm printing and no leg printing would you still get the set

In addition to the wand, Ron holds a lunchmeat sandwich (which is a reference when they first went to Hogwarts,in the film it's just shown that he has a stale sandwich but in the book he's also mentioned that there's a lunchmeat in it which he doesn't like but their mother just can't keep up with when there are so many in the family)

Getting this one but don’t know why such a price increase I got the 2018 one and want to see how it will compare. It has a couple updates like figs and a brake coach which I like but I don’t necessarily like the roof color compared to the old ones.
The roof is not messed up, it's the correct colour for the carriage roof. The previous versions have been incorrect.

This might be my favorite version of the Hogwarts Express. A coal tender and 2 cars!? For once Lego understands what we want with a Lego train.
For the record, the Conductor does not drive that train. That would be the driver or, at worst, the fireman. The Conductor would be on the station and/or in the train passenger cars.
1:05 - are we even sure there is a train driver for the Hogwarts express though? I’ve never seen them before and surely magic, right? Nice of them to include him though it’s the thought that counts
wish that thought train extended to lego star wars in places.
I went to the studio tour in London a few years ago and they displayed the train drivers costume in the cab of the train so it is a train driver. Lupin also mentions his going to speak to the driver in "prisoner of azkaban" . We also see the drivers in the background of some of the films.
Isn't it the same rando train driver like in the UCS Hogwarts Express, that has no connection with the books or movies whatsoever?
It's the conductor though, conductors don't drive the train, engineers do. I don't think magic powers the train either as it puffs out smoke and steam so it must use a boiler and piston setup like any other locomotive so it would need an engineer to handle that.

The train conductor doesn't drive the train, so him not fitting in the drivers cab isn't an issues for me at all. Conductor checks tickets. So belongs in the train cabins.
I think you missed a few points of criteria here.
1. The windows, you can’t use the spade properly cause the figs can’t sit on the window , they have to be in the middle. The old train window piece is just perfect , why not use it?!
2. No magnetic connections between wagons , they are fun , look realistic and give a nice feel.
3. No thought for motorisation. I don’t get it, why George did not planed this ahead. Lego sells al the motor pieces and this would be so nice!!
It’s a great set for sure ! But good critic is important for improvement!
For me it’s a solid 7 of a set but imo you praised it too much without doing constructive critic…

Minifigs can also sit on the roof quite comfortably!
Try placing a LEGO seat connected to the engine and see if the conductor will then fit.
I will have to disagree that this is an upgrade. The 2018 set, to me, is miles better than this tiny one. The train alone looks so much better in the 2018 model than this new midi-scale one. And the roofs of the cars are black, NOT gray. They picked one scene where the sun is reflecting off of the roof and built the model color based on that? That's like making Obi-Wan's light saber purple because it turns purple in a few spots during the duel with Vader. I will say I wish they had just released the Hogsmeade station by itself.
And the price like doubled for an extra track and stickers instead of prints on the train. Would still buy tho.

Have you seen the real thing? The roof is not black, it is definitely grey! Even the scale model makers like Hornby make it with a grey roof.

Harry Potter theme is completely out of new ideas.
The only nice thing about this set is the station. The train is ok but the coal cart and the carriages are nowhere near as good as the 2018 version. The new carriages are smaller, yeah you get two but the 2018 version carriage was just much better quality. Quality > Quantity
conductor fits in the train car sit him down. i have mine that way.
Another downside: The static pistons & the lack of side rods. The biggest appeal of moving trains(in my opinion) is seeing the side rods move.

A Lego train should be motorized and have a full circle track. And Hogsmeade sets should be winterized. No ifs, ands, or buts.

This is the third Hogwarts Express in five years and none of them are motorized.
This is gorgeous. I like the proportions of the locomotive better than the 2018 one, and two carriages are always better than one. Shame about the driver not fitting in the cab, but surely there's a way to mod that. Also it's nice to get a complete station.
It's weird that they're using the older metal train axles even though they only recently introduced new wheels that don't need the axle. They even made it sound like the new ones would be relacing the metal ones.
So I wonder why they went back here...

Nice set, but HE is strange in design: In previous set 75955 was lot of space for a driver*, in set 76423 there is a driver, but no room ..
*(i took a blue Minifig from Crocodile Locomotive and add fleshtone head, beard, and cap 11258 to it)
The conductor doesn't fit. I just don't understand how that makes it to production. It's an automatic deal-breaker, and I can't fathom why a company would release something with such a fundamental shortcoming that could easily have been corrected.
I like the station and the minifigures. The train doesn't do it for me too many stickers. Regret not buying the last train because of no tracks included now too late. I would buy this set if it didn't include the train for a way cheaper price.
I wish Lego would make more trains :(

George gave a nice excuse for the grey roofs. It's complete BS, but a nice plausible excuse.
They basically wanted to do something different, and picked that frame from the film as an excuse. But if you watch it, the train in the film has black roofs. The only time they appear to be grey is when light directly hits them...which is something that happens with black metal. If the black was from the soot in smoke, it would form a non-reflective coat over the roofs.
Also, if he REALLY cared about the accuracy...then why isn't the train dark red? Yeah.
Anyway, I still got the set 😅 But I won't keep the train built. I rather use the pieces to add further carriages to the UCS one.

99721 comes up on just about every Hogwarts Express scale model I've seen on the internet. My guess is this is the car number used on the passenger car the cast rode in within the film. It's likely visible in scenes, but I'm nit positive and don't have the means to check.

I don't like how small the coaches are, and the pistons don't function. Also, the legs for the minifigs are bendable.

UCS just means Ultimate Collector Series, it's not tied to star wars in anyway except they do it more
@@TanosProductions I know I know, but the only theme in Lego where in the box says "Ultimate Collector Series" is Star Wars. Other themes just is Collector's Edition or smthng similar, so "UCS" as its own mean, isn't just Star Wars, but literally, it's only Star Wars
I think you could fix the wheels by getting one of them technic bricks x2 with 6 pins and it will make moving side rods
I just got the set, but I can't separate the train tracks from the stack. Do you know how?
I chose to pass on this set as whist the station is good and does look true to the real life place, the model feels a bit too small compared to the 2018. That one had a bigger coach (even if it wasn’t as big as the 2010 one), working pistons and a fully decorated smokebox print (even including the shed allocation), which the 2023 version doesn’t have. The loco has a slightly better sloped front, but it does feel less accurate than the last one.
I wonder if it’s possible to combine this new set with the 2018 and make a better Lego Hogwarts express
