    *Disclaimer: Unfortunately, the UA-cam algorithm thrives on titles and thumbnails that could be perceived as clickbait. Although I find this particularly distasteful, as a means of reaching a new audience or encouraging my current audience to invest their time into my videos, I must work with the algorithm rather than against it. Statistics have highlighted just how effective aligning titles with the algorithm is and although this can be frustrating for many (myself included), I will always ensure that my titles:
    1. Never promote false promises or unrealistic expectations.
    2. Will more often than not ask a question.
    3. Are worded in a manner that although might be perceived a certain way, are still open to interpretation.
    Appealing to more potential viewers gives me the opportunity to further the spread of what I believe to be useful information surrounding the topic in question, in addition to a positive message which often surrounds mental health, with the goal of helping as many people as possible.
    It should also be noted that the majority of my videos are based on audience suggestions. ~90% of my audience are women, therefore, the majority of videos are created to appeal to my dominant audience.
    It must also be noted that although goals often vary amongst individuals, a lot of my opinions on movements are within the context of building muscle (hypertrophy) and therefore, should be considered with that in mind.
    Thank you for giving me your time.*

    Great video! Somebody needs to call out all this BS on the internet. It's sickening to see information that is at best a theory being promoted as facts and people claiming their questionable workout is the ultimate routine to get their body. Be sceptical, especially of advice that sounds too good to be true. Like you said, stick the the basics that are simple.

    Even with issues like hypothyroidism, it's still that you're eating a surplus. Your BMR just may be lower than other people's due to untreated thyroid disease. It does this by causing your body to slow down in ways you won't even know or notice, and you may have lower energy and thus move less. It's still calories in and calories out. It's just more complex due to the medical condition. Hormones can't change physics.

    I saw the second clip on Tik Tok and I was so baffled about the comments. Gosh people were bashing this girl for just telling the truth. They just don’t want to see it at this point, they think they cannot lose weight on very small calories. They cannot, because they had never ever tried. I see so many blaming the hormones or even more uneducated claims about the chemicals in the food that supposedly stop us for losing weight. How can they explain that we can be next neighbors, going to the same grocery store and some can lose weight while they don’t? How many tik tok I see saying they can lose weight in Europe but cannot in the US because of the chemicals in the food? The lies they tell to themselves is unbelievable. It’s like they kill their progress before even trying. It’s sad really.

    Our metabolism is complex and affected by many things, but zooming out to the first law of thermodynamics is still true. Energy cannot be created nor destroyed and that is essentially what it boils down to but I can see how just saying that grinds people's gears because of their own life experiences and because we aren't just our metabolic processes... For people with not your average metabolic rate, they would just have to run their own controlled experiment and see what their true maintenance calories are by eating the same meals everyday for ....weeks and seeing the weekly trend in their weight. If someone's maintenance calories are 800, they are either very small or have evolved survival genetics because you don't have to eat much to survive. That means cheaper grocery bill 😎👍 and you don't have to spend time making food everyday.

    When you put the arm overhead your pre stretching the long head of your tricep. This is why people tend to say it’s better for the long head especially now with all the research coming out promoting a deep stretch being very hypertrophic.

    Again, more great advice, Harry! I would like to add that some people might be 100% accurate at what they "eat," but they are in denial about what they drink and use of condiments! Those calories add up. Here's just one and example of many I've heard...
    Me: What did you eat for dinner at the restaurant?
    Friend: All I ate was a healthy salad, side bread, and a little wine.
    Me: Did you ask the server to place the salad dressing on the side instead of on the salad?
    Friend: No, I didn't think of that.
    Me: How much bread did you have,?
    Friend: 2 small slices with butter. I love homemade butter!
    Me: That's sounds tasty. How much wine?
    Friend: My date and I ordered one bottle of wine for the table, and I only had 8 oz.
    Me: The average pour is 4-6 oz.
    Friend: Well, it's just a couple ounces more.
    Me: How much weight did you lose thhis week?
    Friend: Nothing and I don't understand why!

    I have PCOS, and have gained weight eating only 1600 calories a day (tracking so exactly because I am both overweight and anorexic) and taking my medicine as prescribed. And that was exercising regularly, I am a runner and was doing intense yoga and swimming at the time. These days, I run a few miles 3 days a week, walk my dog 2 miles 5 days a week, do yoga 3 days a week, and swim 2 days a week, and I still don't eat that much (I do everything I can to not track, but most days I still fail and I probaby am eating about 1600 calories a day), and according to BMI I am still 20 pounds overweight. And I get really frustrated with people who assume I must be doing something wrong or I must be lazy or eating a bunch of junk food or not tracking all my food or exaggerating. Between my different medications, I don't even really have an appetite, so no, it isn't that I am just hungrier. I usually love your stuff, but perhaps when people tell you what their experience is, believe them.

      I wouldn't go off of BMI, its not all that accurate

    • @TFNL
      @TFNL  3 місяці тому +19

      According to BMI I am about 50-60lbs overweight, yet my body fat percentage is lower than the ‘healthy range’. Your maintenance is your maintenance, that is not in dispute; what I’m stating is that if you are gaining weight you are in a surplus, that is as factual as me stating that if you’re driving over the speed limit then you are speeding.

    • @jessicaharrison4719
      @jessicaharrison4719 3 місяці тому +4

      @@TFNL but what you said is that PCOS and thyroid conditions don't affect metabolism as much. My body burns less calories, which leads to the caloric surplus. And that is the definition of it affecting my metabolism.

    • @Steph52446
      @Steph52446 3 місяці тому +3

      I know that, technically yes, eating a caloric deficit does lead to weight loss, but in someone with PCOS, the stress of that and well, stress in general, will greatly impede weight loss. Stress negatively impacts someone with PCOS way more than someone without PCOS, because the hormones are so off kilter. The key to weight loss with PCOS is regulating hormones, then being in a caloric deficit may actually garner some good results. I feel like it’s way too simplistic to say that just being in a caloric deficit is all you need to do to lose weight, because so many factors contribute to exactly what that caloric deficit should be, and it should be tailored to the person, and it also can change on the daily. I feel like that simple “all you need to do is be in a calorie deficit” mindset just leads to way more issues, possibly eating disorders, mental health issues, metabolic issues etc.

    • @TFNL
      @TFNL  3 місяці тому +15

      @@jessicaharrison4719 I stated that they don’t impact your metabolism as much as you probably think they do and that is correct. Note: I also have a diagnosed thyroid condition.

  • @ApequH
    @ApequH 3 місяці тому +1

    It would be better if you said 'if you are in a surplus' not 'if you're eating in a surplus'.
    If you eat a lot of calories but you don't absorb them you won't gain weight.
    If you absorb a lot of calories but you burn all of them you won't gain weight either.
    This works the other way around as well. It's not just eating. It is absorbing and burning.

    I think you should leave the talks on chronic medical conditions to the expert medical professionals, and not any but those specialized on the illness. Yes thermodynamics are important but we are also complex biochemical machines. And many conditions that affect women are not well understood today.

    Hypothyroidism is associated with decreased thermogenesis, decreased metabolic rate, and has also been shown to correlate with a higher body mass index (BMI) and a higher prevalence of obesity. I'm disappointed with your statement regarding this. It's actually really disappointing. You are not medically trained to make such sweeping assumptions about a serious medical condition.
