I love training quads to perhaps a manic degree. I just adore the feeling of driving my feet down and trying to push the whole damn world downward.

I happy you mentioned that your adductors switch on in a deeper squat. After pregnancy my left side glute medius, hamstrings, and tmo were weak as. My adductors were taking the load and i was in chronic pain for almost a year. Finally realised it wasn't normal for recovery. I could barely walk at times. And running? Forget that!
I saw a physio recently who told me not to squat down as far. Now i understand where she was coming from. While i never felt pain during my squat, I'd imagine I was unnecessarily exhausting the muscle seeing it was taking to much load.
The PT has me doing glute bridge to hamstring curl on a swiss ball. I thought Bulgarian lunges were challenging! I have a new nemesis
Also, imo and experience. Glute activation is good for rehab and beginners. Probably not necessary for experienced lifters. Glute activation saved me with my adductor problem.
Keep up the amazing work Harry!

Screams pelvic floor issues to me (I also have pelvic floor issues). The adductors and the pelvic floor are so closely connected that when one is tight, the other is tight. My PT also has me working on my glute meds and hamstrings to counteract the adductors. Also no target exercises to the adductors for me yet

The best thing I did was stop comparing myself to fake "fitness influencer" juice junkies. They were altering my perception of reality and making me feel inadequate.

I love (or hate?) the Bulgarian split squat and Harry's advice is bang-on as usual, however my preferred method is a dumbbell in each hand to help with balance and avoid the temptation to 'cheat' by bearing weight with a free hand.

6:10 The problem when I do both sissy squats and quad focused split squats, is that I get pain and inflammation in the front of my knees. Every. single. time. And it takes weeks for it to get better. I'm so sick of it, because my quads are underdeveloped because of this problem.

Are you stretching/warming up properly? How is your form during the workout?

    • @kirby7475

If you're experiencing this there's a good chance you might have a muscular strength and/or mobility imbalance in either your hips or your ankles, making your knees bear a brunt they're not supposed to.
Go to a physio, they'll help you diagnose the issue.

I didn’t know there are some who say leg extensions are bad for your knees, it always seemed alright to me!

It's a pretty shitty exercise for quads when you put it up against things like the Squats and legpresses and hacksquats. Plus the sheer forces on the knees are horrible, and its the only quad workout that puts stress on your knees in a ridiculous way. It is an OK exercise, but you can do without 99.9% of the time.

They are bad even when the knees are unhealthy. Puts a large amount of load on the quads which further damage the joint in already worn out joints

i strugge so much training legs, im constany injured! only train them once a week because knees and hips suffer to much otherwise, i pretty much just stick with leg press and lunges right now and leg extensions and lying hamstring curls, i do lunges on a smith machine but often my lower back will go near the top of my hip because im in a fixed plain so if anything is slightly out it goes, but if i do it with a barbell or dumbells i struggle with balance. If i do atg squats it makes my quads get so tight that it then hurts just going into a body weight squat and if i stretch them out it effects my right knee to the point where i struggle walking days after, like i cant win! its so annoying

Um are you talking about the VMO? They're responsible for the last 15° of knee extension. So exercises doing that should help🤔
