    *Disclaimer: Unfortunately, the UA-cam algorithm thrives on titles and thumbnails that could be perceived as clickbait. Although I find this particularly distasteful, as a means of reaching a new audience or encouraging my current audience to invest their time into my videos, I must work with the algorithm rather than against it. Statistics have highlighted just how effective aligning titles with the algorithm is and although this can be frustrating for many (myself included), I will always ensure that my titles:
    1. Never promote false promises or unrealistic expectations.
    2. Will more often than not ask a question.
    3. Are worded in a manner that although might be perceived a certain way, are still open to interpretation.
    Appealing to more potential viewers gives me the opportunity to further the spread of what I believe to be useful information surrounding the topic in question, in addition to a positive message which often surrounds mental health, with the goal of helping as many people as possible.
    It should also be noted that the majority of my videos are based on audience suggestions. ~90% of my audience are women, therefore, the majority of videos are created to appeal to my dominant audience.
    It must also be noted that although goals often vary amongst individuals, a lot of my opinions on movements are within the context of building muscle (hypertrophy) and therefore, should be considered with that in mind.
    Thank you for giving me your time.*

    Brittany Dawn (in the US) took people’s money for “personal coaching,” and never delivered anything to some ladies, the exact same workouts to hundreds of others, encouraged eating disorders, all kinds of nonsense. Refused to refund money. Now she’s rebranded as a “christian influencer” and continues to be problematic. I’ll name names.

      I think we forget, myself included, that we know how to eat properly. We are born with this instinct. Our bodies know what it needs. We don't need anybody else to tell us, it is culture and society that has told us 'you don't know what or how to eat' to keep yourself healthy. All the while causing the complete shit storm that is an eating disorder epidemic.

    This brought to mind the dance world, with so many videos of "here's my stretching routine in follow-along form" but it's from someone with so much natural hypermobility that they probably started out able to do the standard splits and any actual stretching they've done went into the oversplit they're showing in the thumbnail. Same with "improving your feet for pointe" from people who had bendy banana feet to start with and only needed a bit of strengthening. A lot of the time it's not even intentional, because they have no concept of their natural advantage, but that doesn't make the effect it has any easier to deal with. As a (sometimes) dance teacher, it's me that has to deal with the kids who're miserable because they've followed the video diligently every day for months and progress is slow because they're just not built like that!

      And on a personal note - back when I used to have a channel that showed my face/body, I was always very clear that my physique is genetic. The tiny parts? I have a silly little skeleton that doesn't even give me wide enough shoulders to keep a backpack on properly. The muscular parts? My genetics said "if you make eye contact with a 0.5kg weight you will grow" and so full-time dance training made me kinda hench. The ridiculously smooth skin? I have a genetic disorder, you literally can't pay to get skin like this so don't let anyone try to sell you things to get it. You can't look like me without being a weird genetic accident and people need to understand that before taking advice from me or copying what I do!

    It boggles my mind that for DECADES the diet and fitness industry continue to make billions on BS products when the truth has always been eat less and move more. I was a fitness instructor and personal trainer for 28 years and periodically fell victim to a few of these things too and I am educated. Thanks for always speaking the truth! Me and your imaginary friends enjoy EVERY video that you make.

    • @chiknfriends
      @chiknfriends 2 місяці тому +3

      I think the fundamental issue with 'eat less, move more' is that it's very fundamentally simple but people find it extremely difficult to actually accomplish. The fad diets and BS products are basically a way for people to get into that 'eat less' calorie deficit without really finding a way to eat less for the long term. There needs to be some better coaching and information out there for making small, sustainable diet adjustments over time in order to achieve a weight loss goal.
      That's just me coming from a disordered eating background because I ended up taking extreme measures to lose my excess fat. I feel like better support... maybe a cognitive behavioral approach? to diet and exercise adjustments for weight loss could help.

      @chiknfriends i feel a lot of us millennials and zillennials fell into disordered eating habits and exercise routines due to the widespread misinformation back in the day and it feeds this way of thinking this is an impossible task. It really is that simple. You don't need insane calorie deficits or hours of cardio to see results, in fact those things are what fucked us up. I know personally it was hard to shift from that mentality and actively avoid and RECOGNIZE bad advice. It's mind boggling these tactics are still being used in 2024.

    what about the skinny fat phenomenon and ppl, especially women fitness influencers that say women aren’t eating enough. I don’t understand how eating more will help me lose fat, especially when I already workout everyday (lifting 3 times a week). So frustrated!

    • @velvi8359
      @velvi8359 2 місяці тому +6

      Because women tend to restrict their calories too much, you still need a certain amount of calories everyday for everything to function properly. If you are in too much of a calorie deficit, your body will react by slowing down your metabolism and burning through more of your muscle rather than just fat because muscle requires more energy to maintain itself then fat does. If your body thinks it's starving it's going to get rid of anything using excess energy so you have better chances of surviving longer. Eventually your body adapts to the calorie deficit and will reduce its energy expenditure to match the calories you are taking in, if that calorie intake is too low it results in you feeling tired with no muscle mass and no way for you to reasonably lower your calories any further when your weight loss eventually stalls. That's why it's usually recommended that you only reduce your calorie intake by about 10/15% of your maintenence calories. Also you need to eat more protein while in a deficit because it helps reduce the amount of muscle your body burns when in a prolonged state of weight loss, which is especially important if you are working out. I'd recommend checking out Coach Viva's channel, she has several videos explaining it.

    • @loriallred4727
      @loriallred4727 2 місяці тому +1

      @@velvi8359 Ugh … I don’t know what women most ppl are around, but the women i know don’t restrict their calories and eat plenty. And you are saying all the same things the other fitness gurus are saying. The “reducing maintenance calories” advice always makes me laugh because how do you know what maintenance calories are if you have been slowly gaining weight? I guess it’s like Harry says, if you are gaining weight, you aren’t in a caloric deficit. And if your weight is ok, but you are carrying extra fat, you need to build more muscle.

    • @girl_on_fire_x_x
      @girl_on_fire_x_x 2 місяці тому +1

      Check out Dr Jason Fung. He has some great videos backed up by studies showing why calories in versus calories out is not the way to lose weight. The food we consume creates a hormonal response. The key to losing weight is understanding how insulin (mostly) affects fat storage.

    • @velvi8359
      @velvi8359 2 місяці тому

      @@loriallred4727 a ton of women go on crazy restrictive fad diets or try to only eat like a thousand calories a day, just because you dont personally know someone doesn't mean that its not a common issue. Also maybe every fitness influencer you see is saying the same thing because it's the truth? Like not every single wellness influencer is a scam artist. Also you can find maintenence calories by either using something like a fitbit or using a calculator online that will give you a rough estimate based on age, weight, height, and activity level. It might not be 100% accurate but it'll give you a decent idea of what your maintenence calories are. This is all super basic information that you can easily find through a Google search.

    • @velvi8359
      @velvi8359 2 місяці тому

      @@loriallred4727 just because you don’t personally know if anyone is restricting their diet too heavily doesn’t mean it isn’t happening or that there aren’t women who are basically starving themselves on extreme diets, it happens all the time which is why a lot of public fitness figures bring it up. Also, maybe all the other fitness gurus are saying “all the same thing” because it’s true? Getting annoyed that they are all telling you that is like getting annoyed that all the scientists online keep telling you the earth is round. You can easy find your maintenance calories by either using something like a Fitbit or by using an online calculator. You just enter your age, gender, height, weight, and general activity level and it will give you a fairly accurate number, you are slowly gaining weight because you are consistently going over that number. It’s pretty simple to find that information online with a couple of basic google searches. I’ve been tracking my calorie intake for a month and a half and have been consistently losing weight week after week.

It a nicer way to think about it thst way instead of demonising fat as in my opinion it causes fat shaming and the other extreme health every size. Everyone heard of the same formula E=mc2 it just telling you basically your fat is energy in simple terms so if you want to lose some you must be put less energy in . Talking about PEDs in general and the personal use is meanwhile a very common topic for fitness influencers here in Germany. One Wellness or Figure Athlet even said, that the ladies should take snap of their 🐱 regularly to have an early warning that something is starting to grown down there. I think it was "Testo Tiffy" or Jenny Weiẞheim.

    THIS is why I never listen to "fitness influencers." I have been working out for 50 years and when I did gain weight, I just took what I remember doing from my past and put it into practice again. Everyone these days think they are qualified to give advice when they know nothing. I follow only the folks I know are true fitness professionals.

    I hate fad diets but if we're talking about "diets" that have scientific backing it's the Paleo and Mediterranean diets. While calorie deficit is a requirement for losing weight there's also the aspect of maintenance once you're there and that's where these two diets excel at.
    Keto is a good diet to help lose weight (assuming calorie deficit of course) but depending on which tenants you follow it could be causing more problems. If you do keto that's based on the high protein high fat aspect of the diet there's research out there to show that this is potentially contributing to non-alcoholic fatty liver tissue disease. But the thing about keto is it is closely related to Paleo so if you were to reduce the amount of fat that you take in you essentially are doing Paleo.

    Great videos have been following you for years! But must say I disagree with the point that big influencers are bad people for hiring other professionals to do the coathcinh job under their names. Why would you, as paying customer, would care who provided the information, if the information is correct anyways? I mean we, as clients, only care about results and learning process, not that we are going to be friends with that “big influencer” from being coached by them 😂 I don’t know, I just don’t see a big deal, or any deal or lie in this at all.. 😂 it’s a business just like any other business, would it be better if he had disclosed that he’s using other people for coaching? Sure, but I’m pretty sure many people would not join then.. essentially what matters, is that more people are joining and more people are getting fitter, healthier and stronger! At least that how I see it.. I’m a personal trainer myself, so don’t really care about fitness instagram indurstty, just doing a physical work with real clients, but more people are doing any form of exercise the better! 😊

    The only reason I can think that you'd include Keltie's image & acknowledge stealing her video idea is if she was guilty of the scams you mentioned (which would be surprising to me as she debunks a lot of BS in the fitness realm).
    I respect your right not to name people directly but creating that thumbnail & casting doubt on their reputations is a bit unfair if there's no evidence

    • @TFNL
      @TFNL  Місяць тому

      I explained why at the beginning, so I’m unsure where your assumption of guilt came from.

    • @hannahmitchell87
      @hannahmitchell87 Місяць тому +1

      You explained that you copied her idea & didn't explicitly state she wasn't guilty, which might've been a good move after using that tag line right above her image in the thumbnail.
      I'm not the only one who was clickbaited looking at the comments but you're defensive of any criticism while capitalising on her image & ideas.
      Whatever gets the views, I guess

    It’s not as simple as calories in, calories out when you’re a woman in menopause, or have another health situation that throws your hormones off. Hormones matter A LOT.

    • @TFNL
      @TFNL  2 місяці тому +5

      Hormones do matter, but it’s still calories in versus calories out. Hormones don’t change the fact that to lose weight you still have to be in a deficit.

    Since we lose fat by expelling carbon from our bodies through our breath, I believe CICO should actually stand for carbon in, carbon out. This essentially eliminates protein from the equation, which is what I believe makes the most sense. Eat as much protein as you want, control the carbon based calories.

    • @jiggyfly16
      @jiggyfly16 2 місяці тому +6

      If you eat enough protein (all animals and plants are carbon based) to put you in a calorie surplus, you will still gain fat as a consequence.

    Putting yourself in a calorie deficit to lose weight doesn’t mean you have an eating disorder. It doesn’t mean you have an unhealthy relationship with food. People need to read the definitions of these eating disorders they accuse other people of having.

  • @cerin59
    @cerin59 2 місяці тому +1

    Sorry but it's really not as simple as calorie deficit. I've had massive deficits sustained for weeks without weight loss, and no flip binging. My body would just hold on to every bit of then normal calories food. Just saying you CAN eff up a body by doing too much calorie deficit. And if ones macros are way out of whack, it's also possible to be not providing enough fuel to heal and build muscle. It's apparently possible to not be eating enough protein and carbs so that the body just hangs on to fat when even normal amounts are eaten after going too long on too few calories.
