The Four Horsemen was actually James and Lars’ rewrite of this song, you can here Metallica (with Dave) doing this song on they’re No Life Til Leather demo and in live footage from 82/83
'Mechanix' was the original version of 'The four horsemen'... Dave Mustaine wrote it and it was originally on Metallica's 1982 demo... Around 1983, Metallica got Cliff Burton in the band and (I'm guessing) decided to re-arrange the song w/ new riffs and new lyrics... Kirk Hammett ended up playing on the final version on "Kill 'em all". When Mustaine formed Megadeth, he decided to record the original track 'Mechanix' w/ the original lyrics and added an intro to it.
Dave Mustaine wrote this song when he was in Metallica -Lyrics and Guitar parts for Metallica at the time -it was originally called Mechanix - theres a live version on a cd on youtube from 83 with him in the band playing guitar -He was the lead guitarist ryhthm in Metallica
One of my favourite Megadeth songs that you havent reacted to yet is In My Darkest Hour. Story behind that song is that he wrote it immediately after hearing the news that Cliff Burton had died. One of their best songs.
In my darkest hour is good. Head crusher is awesome too. Psychotron is a classic. This day we fight… if you want to go back to that album, I suggest last rites/loved to deth
Great reaction Lilly Jane! So many great songs, the energy from “Rattlehead”! Wake up Dead, Devils Island, The Conjuring, Good Morning/Black Friday, these songs will definitely get you going. If you listen to Rattlehead, go with The Final Kill remaster. Any other Megadeth album don’t listen to the remastered version. Just my opinion.👍🏻🤘🏻
The remasters of the first 3 Megadeth albums are the only ones that should have gotten the remaster treatment in my opinion which are the versions that Lilly should react to. Everything else from "Rust in Peace" and onward didn't need to be remastered.
One of my favorites from this album is Looking Down the Cross, I really would love to see you react to my favorites Good Morning Black Friday, The Conjuring, In My Darkest Hour ( music written by Dave Mustaine when he found out about Cliff Burton’s death) Into the Lungs of Hell (instrumental so fucking good) She wolf live Rude Awakening video dueling guitars and incredible drums
I remember reading online that the bpm on this song (minus the slower intro of course) is 258 bpm, so there's the answer to Lilly's question in case anyone (including Lilly) is reading this. Megadeth is actually the band that got me into metal when I was a kid and I've seen them live multiple times (including the most recent tour) and when anyone ever asked who my favorite band was I always said Megadeth so it's always interesting to see videos like this and grt new perspectives on music that I grew up on. I'm sure I'll be watching more videos on this channel in the future.
Just saw Megadeth this past Tuesday night. Bullet For My Valentine and Oni opened up. GREAT show! My favorite Megadeth song? Tough call, but I gotta say "Peace Sells" with "In My Darkest Hour" a close 2nd. They did play "Peace Sells" at the show, but not "In My Darkest Hour". Can't have it ALL I reckon! Started the show strong with "Hangar 18" and finished strong with "Holy Wars". Anyway, enjoyed your reaction, as always. And enjoy whatever Megadeth song you react to next. Whichever song that may be. 🤘🤘🤘
Lol I always thought of this song as the soundtrack to the big black Friday sales after Thanksgiving. Hell, back in my day it used to look like a mosh pit in Walmart on Black Friday anyways, would have been fitting music to be blaring out over the speakers.
Actually, this was originally Dave’s song that he wrote for Metallica before he got kicked out and The Four Horsemen is the slowed down version of Mechanix
No disrespect. I love these guys. Got to meet them in the 90s. Awesome guys. James rewriting this song was amazing. You can tell the difference in quality of lyrics and topics. It's all ok. This is how Dave wanted and James made it his way. I think my favorite comparison is this song you get the basic bass drum sound. In the Horsemen, the bass drum sound like thundering hooves coming at you. World of difference.
I’m personally relieved to know that some people can pick both and feel like they have to chose one. I’m a Metallica fan, but you won’t find me shitting on Megadeth.
@@fanaticofmetal I think Dave’s vocals are the biggest reason I’m not their biggest fan. And Metallica has more rythm & melodies… but that’s why we get both!
I can't give you my favorite song from Dave. because he blows my mind on every one of them. He's the only singer I know that puts expression into his voice he's the only one with instrumental Talent like this
Oh here is it! Now you know the two versions :) I used to like them both the same. Later on I greatly tilted towards The Four Horsemen. Mechanix's intro is very super cool though. "Sex starved mechanic Dave", step no further. From what Junior (Ellefson) tells, Dave decided to up the tempo of his album in spite, after hearing Kill Em All (in which Metallica actually slowed down the tempo for the recording). To me, that was Megadeth's most "band like" lineup, where it was actually Megadeth, and not just Megadave. Chris Poland and Gar Samuelson's influences was legendary.
You should check out their cover of Nancy Sinatra's These Boots (the Original, not the remastered - read reply below). It's also from their first album and is an absolute blast.
The original album version, not either remastered versions. The 2002 remastered added 'Beeps' to block out certain lyrics Dave changed. The 2018 remastered Dave overdubbed with the original Nancy Sinatra lyrics.
In My Darkest Hour should be next. Dave Mustaine was a very angry man in the 80s and Darkest Hour is probably where you can hear it the most in the performance. Some other under rated songs I haven't seen mentioned by others - Victory, about Dave overcoming his drug addition (some great solos alternating between Dave and Marty Friedman), and My Last Words, about playing russian roulette. Also anything from Rust In Peace, its all good. Early 90s Megadeth had the best lineup in my opinion. Nick Menza (RIP) on drums, and Marty Friedman on guitar.
This is what really happened and it is all verifiable(a lot of it on youtube). To clear the confusion I read in the comments.. This is the original song. It was re written to Four Horseman BEFORE Dave left the band. James didn't like the lyrics and Lars complained that it was too fast(the warning signs were there in the beginning LoL). It was slowed down, the sweet thing added in etc etc. Metallica changed it very little between then and Kill em All. Great review, I love that people are still into the music I had growing up. Was a really special time for music in general, so many things changed for good. My one wish is before I leave is Dave and James to go in to the studio one last time, one song, no Metallica, no Megadeth.(hire people or something) Just the 2 of them and some guitars.
I don't have a favorite Megadeth song but there are songs that I could listen to on an endless loop. Angry Again which also on the Last Action Hero soundtrack. À Tout Le Monde Peace Sells Holy Was - Punishment Due Symphony of Destruction Train of Consequences Foreclosure of a Dream Mechanix
My favorite MEGADETH song are "Holy Wars..." but you Lilly had reacted to it. The whole Rust In Peace (1990) album is my #1 from them, I'm also love all their 80's records up to 1992 Countdown to Extintion.
Great job on the reaction as usual... favorite Megadeth song on this album easily rattlehead but overall I have too many but if I had to name one it would be five magics
Dave put "his own twist" on another song from this album, a cover of Nancy Sinatra's These Boots. It's actually really a good cover, and not just cos he dirtied it up, lol.
To be fair, Dave asked Metallica to not use his rhythms after he was kicked out. That really pissed him off. He also has some rhythms on ride the lightning. The verse of title track , and a piece of call , same as beginning of hanger 18 note for note. Just played different. Take it how u will. Both legendary bands , full of talent. And if dave wasn't kicked out, we'd have no megadeth.
You will love "Hook in Mouth" Lilly. Your ]V[EGADET]-[ reaction videos are lacking on the "So Far, So Good, So What?" Album (don't think you have any?)
It's so hard to say that any song from a band that I love is my favorite song. There's no such thing as a favorite song from bands like Zeppelin, Floyd, The Doors, The Beatles, Luscious Jackson, The Cardigans, Morcheeba, Ratt, Dokken, etc., etc. ... or from musicians like Randy Rhoads, Tina Guo, Jimi Hendrix, Franz Liszt, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Johann Strauss, etc., etc. ... From Megadeth, you should check out Symphony of Destruction.
You gotta react to some more songs off of this album! Looking Down the Cross is such an insanely underrated track, it's literally my fav Megadeth song ever lol.
Nope. Metallica slowed it down. This is pretty close to the tempo of the No Life Til Leather version. Mechanix is the original, Four Horsemen is a remake.
...somehow, I never really noticed the lyrics to this. Just random car words...I hadn't realized what he was singing. As far as favourite? So many have memories tied to them, but I'll have to say either Reckonging Day or 1000 Times Goodbye. Neither of which are on their 'best' albums, though.
The Kill em all album from Metallica is Dave Mustane slowed down. Different lyrics yes but he only played guitar for Metallica. When he formed Megadeth the next day Dave just couldn't find a singer to match their intensity so Dave just decided F that I will just do it myself🤘😈🤘
Ahhhhh this song is great. It wasn't meant to be a serious song, even though some take it that way due to its tie in with TFH, but still its a great riff and a staple for both bands. Dave likes to tease Metallica anytime he plays this live at a Megadeth concert, LOL.

I’m sure you know by now these Megadeth songs sound so much like early Metallica because Dave Mustaine used to be Metallica’s guitarist a contributed a lot to the songs on Kill ‘em All
This is not an Megadeth version of it,, this is the original Dave Mustaine wrote this. James Hetfield stole the riff and rhythm, and wrote the four Horsemen.🤘🏼❤️🤘🏼
Yea, if you haven't listened to Good Morning / Black Friday yet. Take No Prisoners is up there as fastest song, like how can they play that fast and sound good.
80s Mustaine was a high energy, drinking, drug-addled psycho with serious balls (or ball bearings lol) who made some damn good music. Hard to pick a favourite but "The Conjuring" and "Bad Omen" from the Peace Sells album are fantastic for the instrumentation. Drums and bass are grooving with Dave's punky sleazy riffing to top it off. Best Megadeth album IMO.
you gotta try listening to both No Life til Leather and the Power Metal demo by Metallica. Power Metal has Dave extremely drunk doing backup vocals to Metallica's version of this song. it's hilarious and awesome and those recordings are great moments in metal history i'd also like to see what you think of old school industrial bands. I'd check out Front Line Assembly you might really like that, they have a song called The Blade that samples a great old school hip-hop track
The Four Horsemen was actually James and Lars’ rewrite of this song, you can here Metallica (with Dave) doing this song on they’re No Life Til Leather demo and in live footage from 82/83

NOT possible. This album came out in 1985. Cliff died in September 1986. So no...
U gotta do the whole album...it's perfection. This is the original metallica version btw, released in their 1982 demo tape "No Life Till Leather".

Одна из любимых песен у Megadeth❤
Last Rites/ Love to Death and Rattlehead are my favorites by them and are part of this album!
