In the long run both are Dave Mustaine's song. So Dave wins.
I liked Dave till I read his autobiography. He found god. That sucks.
@@mattcasson3238 Go to hell then, I bet you like having your ass filled.
@I Got That PMA I guess you're a clean Metallica fan, a nice pretty little thing.
I Got That PMA are you contesting that he didn’t right the song??
@@borisketou3177 jaja epic
Kill em all solos are pretty much all Dave Mustaine solos played slightly slower and cleaner by Kirk. I prefer Dave’s speedy, messy, aggressive style personally. But Kirk is good also
wrong wtf dave was only part of 4 songs on the album and only wrote 2 of the solo's ,do your research buddy
kirks solos are sloppy, have a listen to seek and destroy and you'll here kirks sloppy playing of daves solo
@@valf208 Incorrect, dave only got credit for 4 of the songs, and 2 solos.
val f lol 😆 ok if that’s what you think...I play guitar and can tell you that “whiplash” “four horsemen” “metal militia” “phantom lord” “jump in the fire” are completely Dave’s solos...
Kirk has a different style. He is more blues/pentatonic. Comes from him learning from Joe Satriani. They used Kirk to record the solos. But those are Daves solos.
Can’t you hear the difference on “Ride The Lightning” those are definitely Kirks solos. They have a completely different style
Kaidin aah stop hating on Kirk, he’s far from a sloppy player. Just enjoy both.
Gar Samuelson's drumming made the song much better. He had the "swing" that jazz players have. His drumming always had that distinct sound to them, so free flowing. Dave sings it intensely, but the lyrics are stupid.
Gar was brilliant. RIP to him.
Regarding the solo on Four Horsemen, the story goes that there wasn't enough time for Kirk to write new solos as they were just about to record the album when Dave got kicked out, so Kirk basically played Dave's solos on most of the Kill 'Em All album. That's why as you said, it sounds more like a Megadeth solo.
But well done for recognizing it instantly man \m/
WOW, that s incredible. I wasn't sure if I was right about that. But Kirk did an amazing job cause it sounded just like Dave.
Not true look up the demo no life till leather its way different
Crooked bacon ... no it’s not...do you play guitar? It’s just a much cleaner rehearsed and produced recording on Kill Em All. Slightly slower speed and slightly different techniques for Hammett. But the notes are virtually identical. The solo on the mechanix track is the solo Dave played on “No life Till Leather”
It’s just not A Kirk Hammet style solo...even TNT heard it....the slower solo is definitely Kirks style...the ending solo is completely Dave’s style even if Hammet changes a few notes /pull offs /hammer ons ect...the flavor of the solo is a Dave Mustaine solo
dave was only part of 4 songs on kill em all ,only co wrote 2 most solos weren't writen by dave ,their first guitar player did
Dave Mustaine originally did this song as a metallica member. Imagine how that voice perfectly fits!
Tbh Dave's voice sucks
@@genghiscunt1021 No its what thrash metal should sound like, very rashy and aggressive
@@genghiscunt1021 yes, the good old argument, we meet again
Dave's vocals are asome.
@@MHZENIES it's not like James's vocals are the finest. Even him hates his voice in the firsts records lol
hahaha that look on your face when you said "not a metallica solo"
I jammed to megadeth too long to recognize that style
Yes! First thank you for doing my request. Dave Mustaine wrote both songs and Metallica changed Mechanix to make the 4 Horsemen which is one of my favorite songs period! After being fired right before Kill em All was to be recorded, Mustaine then formed Megadeth and released their first album within a year! (Who does that?) from being a fired guitarist to forming your own band and getting a record deal that fast? Dave is the man! I still love The Four Horsemen better, but everyone knows how talented Dave Mustaine is...
That riff beneath kirk's first solo is actually Cliff's tribute to Sweet home Alabama
Benoit Auclair
Dave wrote that riff actually, even though he left it out of the mechanix. The only part he didn't write is the "time is taking its toll on you section".
Dave's joke, actually
Lyrically, The Four Horsemen
Musically, The Mechanix
It had more energy because Dave was very pissed off at that point.
Cool that you did this! I'm a bit more of a Mechanix guy, but both are awesome.
Agreed!
From Wikipedia..
Although Zazula wanted Hammett to replicate Mustaine's solos, Hammett's guitar solos on the album were partially based on Mustaine's original solos, with the first four bars of most solos written by Mustaine before his departure.[17] Despite their differences, Mustaine's contributions to the early years of Metallica were still acknowledged, and he received four co-writing credits on Kill 'Em All.[
The truth is the solos on Kill em all are a blend of Dave and Kirk together.
Kirk basically refined them.
You need to do some more off the first Megadeth album - Killing is my business and business is good.
Try...
Last rites/loved to death
Chosen ones
Rattlehead
Skull beneath the Skin
Looking down the cross
Dave's voice has a youthful rawness about it on that album.
last rites is my fav on that album and the skull beneath the skin
I really appreciate your input on this subject i believe that you are very genuine and honest with how you react thank you Brother
Thanks dude... You are awesome and keeping me from going crazy in this quarantine
I love both Metallica and Megadeth but The Four Horsemen is put together so much better in my opinion. The slower pace compliments both the story telling and each individual riff. The mechanix is great just for it's energy. Seattle 89 four horsemen has the best of both worlds tho ;) all jokes aside they're both great songs and bands.
I have to agree and alot better production I really wish killing my buisness had a better production dave can play solos but Hatfield is the rythm master of all time
That’s all production, and Megadeth is definitely at fault for that, because they spent 99 percent of their budget on drugs. Do I think Megadeth is the better band? Absolutely. Do I think Metallica’s production was better in the early days? Without a doubt.
Th big difference between early Metallica & Megadeth fundamentally is Tony Iommi,Black Sabbath(& other ' old school ' Metal artists) inspired riffs 4 Metallica. But w/ Megadeth, Dave's luv 4 Punk is apparent, just an absolute Metal onslaught!
I know I'm a year late lmao but I totally disagree. KEA has the most punk sound of all early thrash metal albums. 4 Horsemen is very punk sounding, Mechanix is faster and thrashier sure but has a sort of swing to it (might be the drums). There are plenty of interviews where Dave even says Metallica was very punk/metal (sabbath, motorhead) influenced and Megadeth was alot more jazz/swing influenced because of what he was hearing growing up. Daves sisters were listening to alot of motown.
With all that nonsense being said, objectively speaking when I hear 4H I think its a better song but for whatever reason I tend to like Mechanix better.
I like both bands but after the divorce Megadeth got custody of my ear drums so I love em more for raising me right!
Jump In The Fire and the "extra" song cover Am I Evil are the next ones to check out.
I am a much bigger Megadeth fan but I always thought Four Horseman was better. I am not a big fan of Megadeth's debut album. Even though Dave wrote the song Metallica improved it (better lyrics and flow) The riff actually sounds like galloping horses. Supposedly Metallica used other riffs by Dave and didn't give him credit. There is a compilation of audio of Dave and Lars playing together...some of those riffs that Dave played made it on later Metallica songs
How can you not like Rattlehead, Mechanix, and last rites? They are masterpiece. Also mechanix sounds like an engine.
@@Qthetar He said he wasn't a "big fan" of their first album, not that he hated it.
I'll speak for myself though. There are some really cool riffs on Megadeth's first album but imo there were too many riffs packed into each song and they tried way too hard to play as technical and fast as possible to prove a point. The songwriting overall was quite weak imo. Almost none of the songs had a chance to breathe, they just went from one super fast technical riff to another. They improved by leaps and bounds with their next album which is an absolute classic. My favorite song of of Killing is my Business is Looking Down The Cross. It's just a well constructed song from start to finish and it's quite beautiful, sad, memorable, and deep.
I think Metallica always set out to construct quality songs rather than try and display their talent, while Dave Mustaine always had little brother syndrome and tried to compete with Metallica to prove a point. Again, they improved leaps and bounds with their next album, but the little brother syndrome is very apparent on this album. Had he taken some of those killer riffs and focused on trying to make songs around them, change tempo, and just construct a whole song rather then just throwing as many of them together and playing them as fast as possible the album would have been a lot better.
@@williamkoscielniak820 nah, I think Rattlehead is a speed metal masterpiece just like last rites and mechanix, great songs. Great record, I used to think the same but live it’s a different story, these songs are just next level and ahead of its time. Listen to the 2018 remastered version of these songs, they are excellent, the reason why it didn’t sound as good was cuz of the production quality, the new remastered version showcase all the stuff we missed cuz of the poor production. I do find problems with killing is my business and the skill beneath the skin but musically it’s still really good, they will do good if they remake these two songs.
I always thought it was dirty that Metallica fired Dave and then used his music. Dave's talent is king.
Kerry King from Slayer had a passage in Megadeth from the early years. I'm sure he was involved in the song name Rattlehead from this same album Killing is my Business. You should also check that one out !
Heres the Metallica version of Mechanix with James singing and Dave on guitar
ua-cam.com/video/LSl54Bj2gbs/v-deo.html
This is a gem
That imo is the best version of the tune.
Dyers Eve or The Frayed ends of Sanity by Metallica from the And Justice for All album maybe ?
😂😂😂, had to grab a beer! Right on...I’m grabbing another 5!!!!!
There was No way Kirk Hammet could and still can’t keep up with Dave Mustaine that’s why they slowed down the whole Kill em All album are Dave Mustaine’s songs and solos.
have you never seen kirk play live? he can play really well and really fast, but they chose not to do that kill em all. its not a lack of skill, just a creative choice.
Dave's Laugh, playing speed, and the drawn out "YEAH!" was a direct answer to Metallica using his riffs for Horsemen
Real story: the riff during the solo on The 4 Horsemen comes from Ulrich asking for a mid tempo riff in the middle of the song; Mustaine heard "Sweet Home Alabama" on the radio and... well, it IS pretty much Sweet Home Alabama!
Exactly right, there’s videos on YT of Dave telling the story.
It took me forever to figure out Dave was talking about sex in that song...lmao. keep up the reactions! I'd suggest holy wars live from that one night in Argentina. It's very unique. Good eargasm lol
My old copy had virtually no liner notes or lyrics and I had no clue what he was saying for years.
Fun fact:
Metallica played "Mechanix" live, when Mustaine was still in the band. You can search it on youtube (of course the quality is very bad, because it's the 80s.) They are all high and drunk in that performance LOL. Very interesting to see. Cheers man! \m/
Well he can listen the demo version too
Both are good tracks with a life of there own.
I was instantly bitten by the "metal" bug when I heard this when I was 10 years old when it 1st came out, Especially after I grew up on my dad's country music and my mom's sixties music and all their fifties and sixties TV shows that's what I had to watch We had color TV but I had to watch black-and-white TV shows
I wish I could go back in time to hear them both for the first time back to back like this! I've been a thrasher for nearly 10 years at this point and I prefer the speed of Mechanix just like you said but both are great obviously
Give good mourning/black friday and bad omen a listen.
Bad Omen is so underrated there are basically no reactions to it
This is awesome T, I think you did right by playing 4 Horsemen first then Mechanix
Both of them are very good bands in my opinion, thank god we've got both of them.
I've known them both since their original releases and always considered Mechanix the original version of this song, released first by Metallica, yes, but altered in speed, length, lyrics and name.
So I like everyone else got to know The Four Horseman first, but in reality Mechanix is the original version and for me the best, and the dirty lyrics 👌🏼 Dave is Dave and there's no other.
reacting to thrash while drinking a beer 🍺... doesn't get much more thrash than that haha, cheers! \m/
Mechanix for me because of the speed and the lyrics are hilarious xD 4 horseman drags a bit, its too long :c
Btw, Megadeth's Blessed are the death is about the four horsemen topic too :)
Whichever song is better doesn’t matter because Dave wrote both ....the „clean“ section in The Four Horseman was also his idea😁
ever notice how MUCH that clean section sounds like Sweet Home Alabama? its intentional!
@@cferguson37 yeah I know and that was a joke from dave while recording that song before he was kicked out. They thought it was a good idea and than they recorded it with Kirk on the final version of the album 😁
He wrote the main riffs to both, but he didn't construct The Four Horsemen. Songwriting isn't just about writing riffs or solo's. It's about being able to organize all of the various different pieces into a coherent whole. I know this all too well as I'm decent at writing riffs but can't construct a song for shit. Metallica have always been superior to Megadeth in song construction imo. Their songs are greater than the sum of their parts. With Megadeth sometimes the parts are great but the whole is lacking and that was never more apparent than on their debut album which has tons of great riffs but is a chaotic mess.
9:01, speaking of "Frantic", Metallica did that song in St. Anger.
You can hear “galloping horses” Genius guitar work by Metallica as usual
Genius guitar work as usual.... yes sure.... for the First 4 records
Genius guitar work by Metallica? Dave wrote nearly the whole song, including the "Sweet Home Alabama"ish interlude
Nice, my friend!! Both great songs, but I kinda favor the original version Dave wrote a little better too. Love how you caught Dave's solo in the Four Horseman, that was awesome!! :)
Kirks solo sounds like an Exodus solo well he was in Exodus before Metallica so I guess he still has that Exodus sound
Please listen to "Whiplash" off that same album, talk about a head bangin' song👋 😄👍
You should react to devils island if you havent yet
picture a like 16 yr old dave mustaine working at a gas station by the beach and seeing bikinis all day . Thats when and why he wrote this song .
jump in the fire also had alternate lyrics about sex but dave let james write new ones . i think he worried about guitar and it wasnt untill after metallica that he made an effort to step up his lyric game
Four horsemen: "self explanatory"
Mechanix: LUL BANGD SUM GURL AT GAS STATION
Brother, when I bought this album in 82 the checker behind the counter was afraid to touch it! Hahahaha! No shit. Well the Kill Em All album
Hahahhaahahaha... that is fucken hilarious!
2 Classic metal bands ! & 2 Classic debut albums .
I prefer the speed of Mechanix but the lyrics of Horsemen
Love you, T, but Metallica must be listened to with regular Budweiser not bud light 😉🍻🤘 especially the Kill em all era
If you watch the Cliff Em All video they were big Heineken promoters back then. 😂
Cheers
Megadeth rules
Both rules🤘
Please Jam to Conquering Dystopia please do you and me this favor! It will blow your mind. Jeff Loomis (the guitarist from Nevermore and Arch Enemy) is playing there ... he is the worlds best guitar player! And his composing is soooo good! Please react to Thetys or Destroyer Of Dreams or both 😍 ....the whole album has only good songs you can’t go wrong! I am not requesting this for me ... i am doing it for you my friend!
Dude!
Check out the Black Sabbath 1970 Paris video. That is the absolute business!
Well actuality the Mechanix was the original Metallica song you can hear on the “No Life Till Learher” demo...react to that!!!!
Great video pair-up!
These two songs inspired a custom mix tape I did back in the day which featured these two bands. I opened the mix with Mechanix then went into Four Horsemen, and proceeded with alternating "Megadeth song / Metallica song" thereafter. Stuck for a title for the mix, I just mashed up the bands' names and came up with : MegaMetalldetHicA (mega-meh-TAL-dethica) the caps to reflect the similar mashup of their logos.
I have a sample featuring Into the Lungs Of Hell (Megadeth) going into Fight Fire With Fire (Metallica) going into Set The World Afire (Megadeth) here :

Hopefully stupid YouTurd hasn't blocked it.
Love TnT that guy loves the genre 👍
A thrash song that literally contains every kinds of riffs
I like the Theme of the four horsemen more, but the Delivery, speed and Instrumentals of Mechanix are just better sounding
I love both so it depends on my mood.
Dave vs Dave ....and winner is Dave
Dave and Megadeth the real metal God!!
Mechanix is four horsemen on 1.5x speed.
Mechanix all the way! \M/ ;)
It basically the same song. Gotta do more slayer reactions
I like both versions but for different reasons. I like Metallica's for the more technical sound, but Megadeth's for the punk and aggressive feel. Cheers!
They are both great bands, but throughout the career (not in terms of debut) Megadeth songs are much more technical. At least some
KIMB songs are well beyond what Metallica did technically .
Its more avant gard .
Gar s parts are insane
I prefer 4 Horsemen. I also know and except Dave was involved. Both wonderful metal songs.
I prefer Megadeth but I kinda like The Four Horsemen more. That Sweet Home Alabama interlude is pure genius, and it was Dave's idea lol. It's a shame Metallica doesn't play live that part when they play that song. In the end of the day both are Dave's song lol
They should have gave Ed king a writing credit on this one
Always Megadeth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh yeah yeah
Gar kills it in this song.
The middle part of the four hoursemen its actaully inspired by sweet home alabama... hear the story on this interview... ua-cam.com/video/5mdwxz8LRno/v-deo.html
Megadeth!!!!
Megadeth has the version, the drums, vocals, execution. Just better. This coming from me who live Four Horsemen.
This isn’t Metallica! THIS is Mustaine!
For someone who doesn't know a lot about metal he sure did do a big challenge. I hope hes MAGE right
Megadeth.... nuff..said!
I'm a 💯 Dave guy
Please do MD-45 The Creed, REMASTERED!!!! It has to be the remaster because it's Mustaine singing, his first version is not!
Don't listen to the jabroni below requesting five finger...continue with the Megadeth!
hahah thats fantastic im cryin
Dead on 👍👍
They are basically the same song, different lyrics, with Megadeth going at light speed. Once, when I saw Megadeth live, they played this so loud and so fast that at the end of the song, the entire crowd shouted "Metallica? Who the fuck are Metallica?"
Dave is the man🔥
Mechanix!
Four Horseman all day long man...
Well, Dave DID write almost all of "Kill em All" before giving him the boot. What I don't get is why fans subscribed to the "feud" that developed...and still do. After all, we fans got arguably the two greatest Thrash/Speed Metal bands in history out of it. Hell, I love it...and have since the early eighties. Both are on my "staylist," and always will be.
People like to disagree.
He wrote riffs for like 4 songs. The only song he wrote fully in kem was the four horsemen. Every other song that has his riffs also has James's. Kem has 10 tracks. 4 song that his riffs =/= almost all.
Although I like older Metallica tunes better than newer ones unlike reload n load an St Anger which blow chunks.. Although Sput out the bone is a kool song by Metallica.. I prefer Mechanix better because its more intense but I do also like The Four Horseman also
Couldn't agree with you more. i love both equally but i slightly lean more towards Mechanix for the energy and chaotic feel. that being said, if it wasn't for Dave Mustaine, Metallica wouldn't have gotten their initial sound for the first couple years of their career just like how if it wasn't for James and Lars kicking out Dave, there would be no Megadeth
I prefer Mechanix because that is the original. The best version is off No Life Til Leather by Metallica with Mustaine.
But still no Captive Honour.
Megadeth!!!! Aguante Megadeth!!!
Yeah Dave Mustaine was mad that he didn't get to keep that song because when he was with Metallica he wrote that song and lyrics And when they split up he didn't get to keep the music he wrote so he had to change the lyrics and the beat, And that's what he came up with
Wrong. Metallica used to perform the mechanix when Dave was in the band.
The Four Horse Men of the Apococlypse, it's in the Bible.
Megadeth version : real thrash assault.
Metallica version : Lullaby for childrens.
Four horsemen is a much better song whether it be writing, vocals, or production. Everything is better on the fourhorsemen. Only thing mechanix is is sloppier and faster
@@Aymungoos Metallica's version is too long as always with Metallica who love to bore you with two minutes of filler and repetitions. Megadeth never overstay their welcome, just kick you in the ass and leaves.
Metallica's version is slow, long and i feel like i want to sleep after 4 minutes.
How about Cliff Burtons 2nd show with Metallica? Oh yeah, Dave Mustaine too. 🤘🏼ua-cam.com/video/5ymIjMfxKt4/v-deo.html
Yeah, I wonder who wrote the four horsemen? Hahaha
Next compare Metallica Motorbreath and Megadeth FFF
Dave Mustaine stole the "oh yeah yeah" in the Mechanix from James Hetfield and never gave James the credit
the best version of four horsemen/mechanix is mechanix (demo) version
EXCELLENT SONG! The Four Horseman, that is.
I like Megadeth version😂😂😂
