It's said that after recording that solo, Dave Mustaine - being a perfectionist and always over-critical during recording sessions - stood up and shook Friedman's hand, saying nothing else.
Marty Friedman (lead guitarist of megadeth at the time) is my personal favorite solo guitarist of all time. The story telling in his solo's is unmatched by most.
Fun fact. He wrote the lyrics about Diana, his girlfriend of about 4 years. Toxic relationship, but he couldn't pull himself from it until shortly before this album. You should read his book. He did an autobiography, interesting stuff! Soooo late. But hope you enjoyed the birthday :)
@@krazzko MoP and Fear Of The Dark yeah its debatable..One and Fade To Black are good but aren't between the first ones most ppl think of when they think abt metal...
Exactly, I absolutely agree with your thought about the solo. What makes a metal/rock guitar solo legendary is how it is composed not only by the emotional elements, but also by thematic components that ultimately creates a sequence or story for that song. Brilliant analysis, Lilly!
Marty Friedman has that ability to make his solos tell a story. His solo in Lucretia is another beautiful build-up. Extremely creative. Again Extremely hard to play because he goes all over the fret board for it.
Most people in the know hear "Tornado of Souls" and INSTANTLY they think "ahh man...that SOLO!" 😆 Marty Friedman would have become legendary if this was his only solo released. Thank God he gave Dave more years in Megadeth! 🤘 This entire album is a Marty Friedman & Nick Menza showcase. The second best Marty solo on the album is Lucretia. He's just something special. Happy Birthday! 🎉
Love the reactions. It's so great for an old metal head like myself to see new metal heads reacting for the first time. It's like I'm reliving that same beautiful moment when I popped this album into my CD player and heard this song. 👏
This is my favorite megadeth song. I’m glad you reacted to it. This guitar solo kills it and I wish I could even come close to playing it. I’d like to think I probably showed you this song when we were growing up. I was usually listening to megadeth. This is your cousin by the way. You know which one lol.
The lyrics are my life. The "kiss of death" means that he is jaded. Since he's "seen the light" he now knows love is out of the question for him. It's pure lust now.
If you are covering the "4" and decide to get to Anthrax, Among The Living is a great album. As for Slayer, Seasons In The Abyss is my personal favorite. Great reactions!
That must be a joke? Sorry, nobody in Thrash Metal has guitar solos that compare to Artillery or Angel Dust and Black Sabbath I can name better solos all day.
Ive Seen so many reaction of this album. Marty Friedman is such an incredible guitar player. Before Megadeth he use to play with an other guitar player named Jason Becker. Name of the band: Cacophony. If you like crazy guitar solos youll enjoy listening IT. Happy bday
Happy birthday! Best luck and health and all the best emotions for you! Just seen two of your reactions on my laptop, couldn't stop although our dog was begging to go out, so I watched your third vid a row now, this time on my cell phone (and it is freezing cold outside too) It is unbelievable how promptly exactly you pick the right words to describe what happens in the song and the listener. I think you probably did a better job expressing my emotions than I could, even though these were your first reactions
NICE! Now please react to 'Good Mourning/Black Friday'. Two songs in one, the first few minutes(Good Mourning) is a beautiful sounding, sexy as hell guitar playing. Then Black Friday kicks in and it is amazing, heavy, technical thrash. Edit: 6:35 - Chris Poland is good at using the whammy bar to make the guitar sound like it's crying. That's what he basically did on "Good Mourning". Not to forget about how awesome Dave's awesome sounding clean guitar part.
The whole album Rust In Peace is just legendary. I still remember back around 1990 when it first came out, going to a local Kmart of all places to buy it. They had all the CDs locked up behind glass cases and no matter how long i waited i could not get a employee to come over and unlock it for me. Finally i gave up and went to a local record store.
You do such an excellent job analyzing music. Well done, you really opened my eyes to this song and Hanger 18 recently. You also seem to notice a lot of the same things I do in these songs. Happy belated birthday btw :3
I think of guitar hero when I watch Megadeth’s video of the song She Wolf live Rude Awakening concert video. It has dueling guitars and incredible drums definitely worth a reaction too.
What you said about talking in guitar is really interesting because that's what jazz guitarists are taught to do, basically trading licks and solos as if they're both having a conversation. Look up the skit Jazz Dispute - Dizzy Gillespie vs. Charlie Parker Lip Sync here on UA-cam for a fun example of this ^^ Brilliant reaction, again!
You already can talk guitar.....the fact you hear the feelings the musician is conveying through the solos....that's understanding on a lvl most overlook as noise
Happy Birthday Lilly! Metal is a form of Rock music. An extreme form of it. Just as Gangsta Rap is a form of hip-hop. An extreme form of it. This song is not really a love/break up song - they lyrics implying a love/hate relationship is more of just a metaphor. The is more about the whirlwind of addiction. There is often a hidden deeper meaning in alot of metal songs. In rap, they use clever "doubles" in the lyrics to express hidden meanings. In metal it's usually creative philosophical metaphors.
Conveying thoughts/feelings through instruments is the essence of Metal/Rock music. Now, if you really want to hear someone's thoughts come through with instruments alone, you should listen to instrumental metal/rock music like Andy James's solo projects. After Midnight for instance from his Arrival album is a beautiful track.
Happy birthday! Hope you have a great day~ Also, if you want a Megadeth song with a lot of great and beautiful solos! Do Five Magics or Peace Sells, you are going to love them ✨
Megadeth has the shredding tunes - 'Wake up dead'... 'Skull beneath the skin'... '502'... 'Take no prisoners'... 'She-wolf' 🤘🤘🔥🔥 but they also have subtle songs... 'A tout le monde'... 'Symphony of destruction'... 'Trust'... 'In my darkest hour'
