Carl, I'm a subscriber but haven't had a chance to binge your channel and now I see I need to. I did a search for Christmas stuff (making stuff for my 15 grand-kids) and this video popped up in the suggested queue. NOW I'm going to have to find your follow-up video (from 2015!) about the tricks you picked up by Gnome #6. I think some of the kids will enjoy these. Good job.
If you have a endless supply of carbide cutters you can get nice clean cuts on anything, but use them just a few times and you wont get a clean cut. But very nice work on those gnomes Carl! Going to get the kids involved in making a set of these. Thanks for the vid.
+Joe Major Try sharpening your cutters on a diamond sharpener. I use 400 to start and the 600 to finish. Just lay them flat on the stone and rub back and forth 5 or 6 times.
Hey Carl, those are fantastic. Would you be willing to do a video or short series on getting sponsors, social media and marketing? Thanks, love your channel and congrats on your mobile shop!
Carl appreciate your constant teaching. Question: See your DIY dust collection looks like hose through plywood. Can you elaborate, I am looking to deflect shavings going behind lathe and also hold dust collection hose. And yes we love the Christmas gnomes. Thank you. DavidFriedman
Thank you very much David!! I've updated the dust collection in more recent videos. I don't have anything like the plywood to deflect the shavings, I just hooked up the hose.
HEY I HAVE THAT SAME PARTING TOOL I SEEN THAT YOU LOST THE TIP AND I DID THE SAME THING AND MINE WILL NOT STAY IN ANY LONGER DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO KEEP IT IN.
Theys looks cool ... as one wood expect... I finally got some new chisels and so it means I now have to learn to keep them sharp and then I have no excuse to do more tuning... :-/
Pretty cool! I am wondering how you managed to get the coloured plywood to look as evenly coloured as it was... I am doing one that is blue... but with most every finish I have tried... the sides turn black across all layers! Maybe this is one that is supposed to be left unfinished? G'nice Gnomes though! ;>) Thanks for sharing Larry
They look awesome Carl, I don't mean to be controversial but the maple and walnut one looks an awful lot like Mike Waltd but don't tell him I said so Lol. All the best Tony
HELP!!!! I have been trying to make a snowman family using oak and it keeps splitting and chunking off without any catches.. since they will be painted, what type of wood should I use? I have a nice chunk of kiln dried poplar but I dont want to destroy it "trying"
I just actually watched the video, I had the EXACT same thing happen when parting the snowmen, only to find the chunked off damage which was not a result of parting. Nice to see I have similar issues as the pros do!
Cute little people :) A very nice idea!

Mr. jacobson how do you have your dust collection rigged up?

HEY I HAVE THAT SAME PARTING TOOL I SEEN THAT YOU LOST THE TIP AND I DID THE SAME THING AND MINE WILL NOT STAY IN ANY LONGER DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO KEEP IT IN.
Hey Jerry, if you take a pair of pliers and squeeze it back together a little bit it will lock back in.
i did once and it caught and i lost another tip they are hard to find in ankle deep shavings. ha ha ha
Very nice! Going to have to try this project. I noticed your spindle gouge had a very nice polished bevel. What are you sharpening with nowadays?

+Carl Jacobson I use the wolverine as well, and with can wheels, but yours, well, very shiny!

+unoefxz Poplar is a much better wood for this, and it needs to be dry :) Good luck!
Thanks, I will give it a turn and see what happens...
I just actually watched the video, I had the EXACT same thing happen when parting the snowmen, only to find the chunked off damage which was not a result of parting. Nice to see I have similar issues as the pros do!
