Cute little guy. I made some of the earlier versions a couple of years ago and they went over well as Christmas give aways for my friends and family. The other thing that I borrowed from you than went over well was the small hand bell you posted several years back.
One thing I do when turning the noses or that could also work for Brother John's hand is to turn them the opposite way to what you do. I form the round part first so it can be totally sanded on the lathe, then part down to a 1/4" tenon, do any final touch ups to the sanding and finishing ( the 1/4" tenon is plenty strong enough for these little things ) and then saw it off with a flush cut saw. I find that way a little faster.

Over the years I've made the 'original' style of Gnomes that were very popular with family and friends. I can see how these will be perfect companions! Thanks for the great idea.

Yes it is. I just got off the lathe working on a box with threads for a futuure video. Don not know where the time went!

One option, for the fur, wet it, comb it into a part where you want to cut, then... cut.

Seems like a more efficient approach would be to turn the fist and nose on the outboard end and part off the tenon near the chuck. Then you could do the sanding on the lathe.

if you trim the beard a bit, and put PITTY! on the sign you could make mr T version as well. would make a great gift 😀

What if you don't have or can't afford the jaws? Can you turn these without them?

If you have a chuck, use a larger piece of wood. You can turn between centers but it will take some skill.

So for your loss your granddaughter has got to old to hang out with Papa in the shop and help with the videos

It was fun while it lasted. My granddaughters still come to visit and have sleepovers. Just not as often and tend to stay glued to their phones and tablets.
